Seasoned pretty good. Rice was a bit different but still ate ok. Hinode has been our go-to place for years and years. We like it better....and they are very consistent. 9/26/26. The chef was inexperienced very slow so the pasta, vegetables and rice were cold by the time the rest was of the meal was cooked. The shrimp and scallops were left on the grill until they were stuck so most of the seafood went in the trash when the grill was scraped. It was a waste of $150. The cook was tall, slim with curly hair and cocky. Would not recommend this service person. Or really this establishment. read more

Never again! Two weeks ago we drove 45 minutes only to be told they won't seat us after 7:30. Even though we called and were told they close at 8. Showed up at 7:35. Gave them another shot today. Cook was very rushed. Didn't have enough food. Our plate looked like kids meals. Was told no appetizer shrimp due to not on the truck but served shimp and steak. We have been coming here for 15+ years and always take home enough food for another meal. Not today. We are headed to McDonald to get something to fill up. We went here for my daughter's 17th birthday. Hibachi is hard for me because I am gluten free due to an allergy. After talking to the waitress she informed me I couldn't have the soup, salad dressing and obviously the noodles but they could cook the rest of my food in the back with gluten free soy sauce. Because I couldn't eat most of what comes with the meal I just ordered a side of chicken and a side of vegetables. After she put the order in I was informed I couldn't just ordered a side, I had to purchase a meal. There were 8 people in our party and everyone else ordered a meal and sushi (the sushi also made 3 people in our party sick) but they would not make an exception. I didn't want to cause a scene on my daughter's birthday so I ate an avocado roll. Our bill was over $300 and they wouldn't make that exception. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

If I could leave 0 stars i genuinely would. I called 2 hours ahead of time to inform them of my onion allergy and see if this was something they could work with so we could take our kids somewhere fun to eat. They happily said yes and that they could put us at a grill with no onion. While we were sitting they sat others with us, then proceeded to call me out in front of the table acting like I didn't mention my allergy 5 times, the owner Sue did it with rude intent. The people sat with us felt bad by how rude she was, they were so kind and said "it's ok we really don't need onion" but then the owner like forced them to move then acted so inconvenienced by me and my kids, keep in mind they were super slow and had so much available room. It was uncomfortable. I barely ate and just decided to bring it home to eat, the chef and server were super awesome and friendly I wanna note. I left a 30% tip even still. So now my 7 year old has to use the bathroom so I start walking my kid out and I turn around to just go get my food so I can just meet my husband at the car, 30 seconds my food was left on the table. I turned around, it was thrown in the trash. Even the servers were saying she shouldn't have done that and they never throw it out, they hold it up front. In light of this a man told me "we will just get you another one on us" so I went to the front and told them my order. Then lol SUE said that oh they aren't remaking my food, it's half my fault for just getting up and she's gonna charge me half. While I was waiting multiple people who work there were telling me how awful this owner Sue was, said she didn't care about service, was not nice to employees and all sorts of nonsense. This is one of our favorite places! Last time we were here we had a chef that refused to make a bullseye (mix of yum yum, teriyaki and sriracha, when we asked for soy and teriyaki on salmon he said that wouldn't taste good but he did finally agree to do it. We debated coming back after that but normally we have such a good experience we did. Tonight we had the BEST chef ever! He was fun, gave us everything we requested, changed up the show from the normal and was phenomenal! We will be requesting Trey EVERY time we come in from now on! read more

Not my first time coming here, but it was my first sitting on the hibachi side. My big concern was the way the chef would slap around the chicken while it was still raw and in big pieces. It was unnecessarily rough and I've never noticed anything like it at other hibachi restaurants. You could see the spray of raw juices shooting away from it. It seems concerning to be eating food that could have raw chicken bacteria sprayed on it. Update: the chef also didn't pay attention to where he was putting the food so it would make a mess and it was dropped on people's hands holding the plate and burning them. read more

Very expensive! I would have knocked it down to 3 star's, but the ambiance, and presentation is worth another solid star. We sat on the bar side because we were there for sushi, and drinks. Nice little area, and quiet enough to carry on a conversation. I noticed something was off the moment I see the "under $10" part of the menu. It's as though people just "expect" sushi to be expensive, well unless you are ordering lobster or something else crazy sushi is actually cheap to make. So I checked out the heart attack. I believe it was 10, or 12 I don't remember. Either way it was presented very lovely, but I'm pretty sure there was only 5 rolls. That's like $2 per roll!! The soup was good, and the side salad okay. But I think the best part was the Mirror Pond that was on tap. I might go back one day, but won't be going out of my way to do so, and it's down on the list for sushi places. read more

Overall a great experience. Food was great and service was great. It is always fun to watch your food be cooked right in front of you for entertainment. He also did some fire stuff to impress the little kids that were also here. And I know what you all want to ask. Why do they have such big hats and if they serve a purpose? We asked! So let me tell you. The guy said that it was like a honor to wear the hats they do because it like shows that they are a real chef and they know what they are doing. When they first start out they don't wear the big ones to show they are in training. Also, why don't they just call their honey mustard sauce, honey mustard? Me and my family went here for dinner a bit ago and it's one of the worst places we've been to, the service wasn't that great, they hustled us in and out with barely any time to eat, the servers didn't do much to interact with us and the food all tasted the same, the rice was under cooked, the steak was over cooked, the soup was little more than mushroom broth with scallions and the water tasted as though from a pool. I would not recommend this place to anyone I plan to stay friends with. read more

I was having my birthday dinner yesterday on Super Bowl Sunday which I didn't think about places being closed. We tried to go to Fuji's and steak and hibachi but both had posted they were out until tomorrow. I started to get really upset bc I wanted to go to a hibachi so bad. I called Ohana and luckily they were open!! I really wasn't expecting much but it was a really good experience and a lot better than Fuji. The entirety of the staff were so nice and friendly. The chef was super nice and sweet which apparently he was new but he was awesome. In Springfield I usually only go to umis for sushi but decided to get a tuna roll and my fiancé chose a spicy crab roll here. They ended up being pretty good. And they gave me a big pad of wasabi, I never get enough wasabi so I geeked out on this. So overall it was a great experience and so so much fun to go out with family to. read more

So my bf and I use to go here all the time or order takeout, well never again. I looked at the menu online and it clearly says ohana soup with a steak or chicken fried rice and a waitress insisted it didn't....ok. On top of that I had egg shells in my fried rice that was disgusting. We won't be back. How disappointing cuz this really use to be one of our favorite spots to eat at. This was a big disappointment. Our chef was unfriendly and did not add to the experience. Four of the 8 of our group ordered chicken which was inedible. The waitress was great and did all she could. The manager came over and made excuses, asked what he could do. I suggested charging us only for veggie meals since we couldn't eat the meat, however this did not happen. He blamed their supplier and lack of English on the issues. The chef actually cut the meat incorrectly which may have been part of the issue. The chef at the neighboring table was actually more friendly and tried to smooth things over and told us to ask for him next time. But not sure there will be a next time. read more

This was the only steakhouse that didn't have too long a wait on a Saturday night. We didn't get our sushi until we had even finished our meal. We paid $10 for 4 rolls and it was some of the worst sushi I've ever had! The cook did maybe 2 performances with his utensils but other than that nothing. So it wasn't that much of an experience. We have literally tried every Japanese Steakhouse in Springfield and O'Hana is the only place we'll eat hibachi. From their incredibly friendly staff and chefs to their mouth-watering O'Hana shrimp and on-the-cheap sushi, it's our go-to choice for lunch and dinner. Their prices are reasonable, as the only cheaper place we've found that actually cooks the food in front of you is Little Tokyo. To break it down: Sushi: I love sushi in all of its varieties and flavors. My husband, however, is a little pickier and only likes rolls. O'Hana wins hands-down for price on his favorite, spicy tuna. The O'Hana roll and Crunch Roll are also delish, though I wouldn't recommend the O'Hana roll for someone who doesn't like or hasn't had sushi before. Simple rolls like the spicy tuna feed only one, in my opinion, while the pricier sushi-menu options like the Crunch, Super Crunch and O'Hana rolls are plenty for two or three. I also like their hand rolls if I'm the only one eating and at $4.50, the price is excellent. If you want just sushi, sit in the sushi bar, check out the chef special on the whiteboard behind the sushi chef and sit back to enjoy miso soup (silky tofu, yum!) while you wait. It is rarely busy in their sushi bar and the wait staff is always friendly and attentive. Hibachi: You can order the hibachi in the sushi bar but my husband firmly believes that part of the fun of eating at O'Hana is sitting at the grill. While I don't always feel social enough to sit with five strangers (each grill seats 8 and unless you bring 8 people in your party, it's likely you will sit with people whom you do not get to choose), I do admit that O'Hana's chefs are the friendliest I've come across. Ask for Chase if you want pithy one-liners but ask for the "new guy" if you want a white guy who can put on a show. Do be prepared to find differences in food taste between chefs; we've had one chef put more butter than I like on our noodles and another barely sear the vegetables before serving them. They are always amenable, though, to cooking something how you prefer. Hibachi Lunch: Salad but no soup, slightly smaller portions but more than enough for the price and no O'Hana shrimp as an appetizer. It's usually exceptionally quiet in the restaurant at lunch. Fried rice comes with the price at lunch, unlike at dinner where it costs $2 extra. Hibachi Dinner: Salad with ginger dressing, a peppery mushroom soup and two butterflied O'Hana shrimp for appetizers. The O'Hana shrimp may not be for everyone as they put a bit of garlic butter on each before gently steaming them on the grill. I have never had them be buttery-tasting, though, only fresh and wonderful. I often order the O'Hana shrimp as my meat selection. The chicken is cooked with teriyaki sauce which caramelizes on the grill and flavors everything while the steak is cooked to your preference. As mentioned above, fried rice is $2 extra but always good, otherwise you get steamed rice, noodles and vegetables as part of your meal price. Huge portions, I always bring half of mine home. My brother tried scallops and calamari and they were excellent, neither rubbery nor watery. Bottom line: go at lunch for cheap hibachi, try out their sushi bar at happy hour for sushi and drinks, or go for the huge portions of deliciousness for dinner. read more

I always get nervous going to Ohana, because there never seems to be enough people to warrant firing up a hibachi grill and making a dining 'show'...which could be why we walked in last night and were immediately sat at a grill table instead of the separate 'lounge' section where we could have just ordered sushi (which is what I wanted). As my luck has it, we got the tall tattooed white chef...not saying that white guys can't cook Japanese food, but when the host barely speaks English and you are trying to portray a genuine Asian experience...just sayin'. We ordered 2 sushi rolls, which were nice. Not stellar, not bad. It was lacking something that I can't put my finger on...some spice or heat, maybe? Maybe the water used to make the rice needs to be filtered? I don't know...just not anything to write home about. We ordered an entrée and paid the extra $5 to split it, giving us extra soup, salad, rice and noodles. Great cold, crunchy salad, great soup...not overly salty and a fair helping of mushrooms and green onions. As far as the hibachi meal goes, our chef needs a high-five. The veggies, steak, and scallops were cooked perfectly spot-on. Not too shabby for a guy who can spin a spatula, carry on a conversation, and be nice to the children at the table. There were two major disappointments to my meal: one, the noodles. Bland and oily and lacking seasoning. The second is the shrimp appetizer. I remember Ohana having a beautiful, delicious buttery bread crumb topping to their shrimp appetizer...they would put the metal cloche over the top and let it cook while they made an onion volcano...and nothing. I've recommended Ohana to many people over the years solely because of that appetizer, and it didn't happen. Serious bummer. Like most hibachi places, you end up with way too much food. One random Ohana quirk is that they charge for sauce to go, but will bring you portion cups and lids for free. You would think they would be charging for the plastic containers and not their watery, too-sweet seafood sauce. Weird. I also disagree with most of the other reviewers who were touting Ohana's value for the price. They DO have a happy hour and lunch specials, but dinner will still run you around $30 a person...especially if there is any sushi or alcohol involved. read more

The chefs aren't as showy as they are at some of the other places in town, but at lunch, I need to get in and get out, not be entertained, so this is a plus in my opinion.
