I took my three kids here a few times starting in 2024. At first, everything was good. However, in January we experienced some odd activities. First, shortly after our kids' visit this January, we were charged over $800 on our card on file. No explanation or invoice. Upon reaching out, I was promised a call back, which still hasn't happened despite multiple attempts. They then proceeded to bill our insurance for those visits and collected payment from them, however they are refusing to refund the charge from January. I even submitted a fraud inquiry with our bank and the office fought it, claiming it was for the January and past visits. Even though they got paid by our insurance. Wait, it gets so much worse! In looking for reasons why they would charge us $800, I looked back at the insurance claims from 2024 & 2025 and found multiple claims that appear to be fraudulent where this office collected thousands from our insurance company for work never performed. This ranges from including panoramic X-rays when none were performed all the way to claiming to have fixed 8 (eight!) cavities for each of my boys (and of course they claim they did this the same date they also had a routine checkup and cleaning, which they also paid for). Upon researching, I also found that Dr. McDowell was brought in front of the MN board of dentistry for similar actions in the past and is operating on a conditional license because of It. I have contacted our insurance's fraud department, the attorney general's office, and the board of dentistry. I also continue to reach out trying to get this office to reimburse us for the overcharge and reverse the claims that were not performed, to no avail. read more

3/19 I paid Doctor $2021 for 2 veneers. They felt rough on the backside so in July I had him file them to make them smoother. He billed my insurance $149 and called it pain. This should have been included in the price I paid and I was told that there would be no charge. I had to submit the claim for my veneers to my insurance myself as the doctor was too busy to do it. I'm still waiting to be reimbursed as copy of X-ray was not submitted until I requested it be sent. 7/8/24 doctor decided he didn't charge me enough for 2 veneers even though I paid him $2021 and he billed my insurance 2x at $149 for follow up appointments that he called pain. So on 7/8 the doctor decided to bill me an additional $1268 to my visa bill without my approval or authorization. Unscrupulous? Dishonest? RUN...don't walk away from this office! New patient using a Groupon which included an exam, cleaning, x-rays and teeth whitening. First, when you walk into the office every chair is ripped and torn up. The place is run down and outdated. There is no "state of the art" anything there. Then, the receptionist is swearing out loud that her computer isn't working. They are running late because of this. Next, there is no dental hygienist employed at this practice. There is a receptionist and 2 dental assistants who have worked there 2 months. The doctor did the exam, X-rays and "cleaning" in 20 minutes himself. He took one pass along my gums with a water pick and told me I had great teeth. When I told him I could still feel plaque with my tongue he came back and scraped with a tool for 10 seconds and said no more plaque. There was no cleaning and it was clear I wasn't going to get a proper cleaning. They kept trying to sell me upgrades, which I refused. Reading other reviews, I'm sure they were trying to get my credit card on file to illegally bill me later. I refused any upgrades. I believe all the newer positive reviews are bots. Visited using a Groupon (exam, cleaning, x-rays with whitening. I would not recommend this dental office. I was a first-time/new patient and was in and out of this office in less than a half hour. Most new patient dental offices take up to 1.5 hours with a new patient. The first thing the dental assistant did was try to sell me a bunch of other stuff. She then took my x-rays. Then the doctor...not a hygienist...but the doctor did my cleaning. There was no Periodontal Probing and Charting, and the x-rays didn't seem to be reviewed...at least the results were never discussed with me, no whitening. The doctor then told my everything looked great and to keep doing whatever it is I was doing. Very different from every other dentist that shared with me that I have gum disease and to keep working on flossing and brushing, etc. I felt the service was sub-par at best. read more

I got two fillings replaced here and unfortunately the quality was quite bad. I was genuinely shocked by how fast the whole procedure was, he did not take his time whatsoever. I was unable to floss between the teeth and the appearance of the fillings were extremely bumpy and uneven. I had gone back to get them fixed which he did end up smoothing the fillings so they were somewhat even. However I was still unable to floss. I ended up going to another dentist and one of the fillings wasn't even sealed to my tooth. Which led me to needing a replacement. The other tooth I'm having serious issues. It's not properly sealed either and is causing me so much pain, I will be getting that replaced here soon too. I was also told that my insurance would cover the amount at the time of my visit and 7 months later I randomly get a charge on my card without consent or explanation. This whole ordeal has caused me so much stress, money and just overall disappointment. I would not recommend getting work done here!! read more

Have been going for dental checkups and work for many, many years. First time at this dentist for a hygiene appointment. Spent a lot of time on health and dentistry background which was a great start. Once in the chair I was offered things I did not know were covered by hygiene visits. All extra checks were added charges, a cancer check for $75.00, a fluoride treatment at an extra cost of $65.00 and offer of a whiting treatment. The cleaning took 15 minutes, not very through. I have Delta Dental Insurance which has no copay for cleaning. A lot of wait time and was asked to re-do an x-ray on an antiquated machine which I refused. I was greeted very politely and spent a grand total of 1 minute waiting before I was taken back to get started with the dental assistant. She was very friendly and polite. I was x-rayed and seen almost immediately. Dr. McDowell then came in and went over my x-ray with me and let me know that I was in pretty good shape except for one cavity. When it comes to healthcare, I believe in thorough reviews to assist in making the most informed decision. This will be that. I found Wayzata Dental on Groupon. They did a cleaning and teeth whitening. I was skeptical to say the least (picking a dentist from Groupon and all), but I wanted to check them out because of their reviews and the technology they possessed to enhance one's dental experience. My visit was amazing. They were professional and kind. It was clear from the first step in the door, and throughout the visit that they were also experts in their field, not taking lightly their duties nor their responsibility to ensure great care and comfort to their patients. The cleaning was top notch. The whitening was impressive. The office and the equipment was classy, and impeccably clean. I had a silver filling that was cracked, and it was endangering my tooth. My old dentist wanted to do a root canal instead of replace it. However, after consulting Dr. MacDowell, we determined that replacing the filling with their composite would not only save my tooth, but would also be cost effective. I was nervous to say the least. I had never had a filling removed, and I was certain it was going to be awful and painful. They assured me that the process was simple and without pain due to their laser technology that they would employ. Now, let's be honest, don't all doctors say that? "Oh, it won't hurt." or "It'll only hurt a little", but then it hurts REAL bad?! I didn't really have a choice though, I needed the work done. So I scheduled the visit. I went to my visit, still nervous, but determined to get it done. They numbed me, first with a topical numbing cream. Then they injected the MAGIC drug (I have no idea what it was), into your mouth. Let me say this again MAGIC drug. I felt NOTHING. They walked me through the procedure. Answered all my questions, and believe me, I had questions. They showed me the machine, let me feel on my skin the water that would come from the machine to help with the filling extraction. It was incredible. We began, and minutes in, it was over, the filling was out. I was surprised at how quick and painless it was. Then they took the pics so they could fit my tooth for the composite for my tooth. They made it to my exact tooth specifications. In no time, I had my tooth fixed. It didn't hurt. It was quick. It was wonderful. No more worrying about eating popcorn or eating hard things on that side of my mouth. Now, let's talk money. I was sure this was going to cost a fortune. Certainly more than a normal filling. I had dental insurance. The cost of the removal of the filling and the new filling was only slightly higher than the cost of doing that with a "regular" dentist. If I had seen a "regular" dentist, it would actually have been more because they would have required a root canal and a crown. Which would have meant multiple visits as well. After insurance, I paid around $200 out of pocket. My insurance paid 80%. Even if your insurance is 50% coverage, that's still quite amazing. Dr. MacDowell is gentle and kind. He knows his stuff. Brittany did my cleaning, and numbed me up. She is great and is very skilled. She also adds a little Listerine to the rinsing water (just the tiniest amount), so when you get your mouth rinsed during your cleaning, it feels fresh and isn't so gross. Gina helped Dr. MacDowell in my procedure and she was great. She helped keep me at ease. I genuinely like the staff. I felt like I was just chatting with friends. They were welcoming and authentic. I hope you decide to choose Wayzata Dental. The laser dentistry is remarkable, and honestly, it removes the anxiety from having dental work done. The staff is TOP NOTCH. I had the unfortunate luck to break my front teeth bridge recently. I mentioned it to the hygienist at Wayzata Dental, and Dr. McDowell came to check on it. He gave me my options, which was essentially replace the bridge because to ignore it would open me up to much worse circumstances. He used his laser technology and 3D printing to create the temporary bridge I would use while I waited for the permanent bridge to be made. It looked very good and I could eat anything I wanted with no problems. The new bridge needed some color adjustments and some fine tuning to make it perfect, and in the end, I am extremely happy with my new front teeth! read more

They will call the day before to remind me of any appointments and can text appointment info as well which is nice. Has some high tech equipment when cleaning my teeth. Just visited Dr. McDowell today. My kids had a cleaning appointment and I had a tooth that chipped a few days prior. I should have probably called ahead and asked them to schedule me in, but as a busy mom, it sort of slipped my mind. Anyway, Gina and Dr. McDowell were very accommodating and squeezed me in. I was pretty confident that my large chip would be scheduled for a crown, but was pleasantly surprised that Dr. McDowell said we could do a new filling instead. He also recommended a new laser procedure that they have now. The laser is used in place of the drill to remove the damaged part of the tooth. It also has a handy feature that actually creates a filling to fit the area removed. This is done with 3D rendering. The entire procedure was quick and painless (under 30 min). No Novocaine or gas was needed and no jarring from the drilling, because...no drilling. The laser actually numbs the nerves long enough to complete the filling with absolutely no pain. Very high tech and very cool in my book! My children did not have any cavities today, but if they get them, I will happily go to Dr. McDowell and use the laser. It was amazing! read more

Three words...NO DRILL NECESSARY. They use a friggin LASER! I just experienced getting a filling without the need for Novocain and the dreaded drill at Dr. McDowell's office. They are one of the few dental offices in Minnesota that has this machine. I was shocked at how little pain there was. It just felt weird, but no pain. No extra cost or time either. It was actually quicker than the last time I had a filling due to the fact that I didn't need a bunch of shots of Novocain to kick in and numb my tooth. I didn't have to deal with half my face being numb for hours afterwards either. Worst cleaning experience ever. The computer was slow so we waited probably 20 minutes for it to come up. The cleaning only took about 15 minutes. I've never seen such a fast cleaning before. It usually takes time so I can't help but think it was rushed. There was no oral exam. No looking for bumps and lumps, no sticking out your tongue, nothing. The dentist was in and out before we knew it. He was cold, distant, aloof. He just blurted out that thousands of dollars worth of work was needed, and then left. It was the most overpriced dental studio I've ever seen, too. Now it makes perfect sense that it was deserted. I would NEVER go back. read more
