For men's dress shirts, ask for their "special collar treatment," for just an extra $1.00 per shirt, that produces amazingly clean collars. Whatever you do, do not have any alterations done at this place. I've had dry cleaning done there before and it's decent, but I brought in a dress for a wedding to have it altered, The guy pinned everything, told me to come back in a week which was a great turnaround time. When I tried it on they had hand it above the ankle. It looked ridiculous it was supposed to be to the floor. The guy question why I pinned it that short and I said you actually measured it and pinned on me! They gave me the $80 back that they charge to do this alteration and told me they would pay for the dress. I Tried to find the address again to replace it, but it was out of stock. I will just donate the dress. read more

I would give zero-stars if this was an option. My 100percent wool sweater ($130 hand-knit new sweater from Ireland) was shrunk by this establishment! The sweater used to fit me (adult woman) and now it would fit a six-year old child. The sweater had chimney soot on it in various places and I was asked to sign a waiver that I would agree to whatever cleaning process was needed. However, I did not agree to have my garment destroyed!! If I knew they were going to destroy it, I would have kept my sooty sweater and worn it as a yard-clean-up sweater, at least it would have still fit me. I had to pre-pay $12.50 for the 'cleaning'. The owner told me that since I signed the waiver, they were not responsible for what happened to the garment. I asked them if professionals cleaned my sweater, and the owner replied 'Yes, and yes we are professionals!' to which I replied, 'well then, if a professional couldn't remove the chimney soot, they would have telephoned me and told me they were about to soak the sweater in a vat of water and I would have said please don't.' The owner repeated that I signed a waiver. They then said 'I don't have to refund your $12.50.' I hadn't even asked for a refund at that point. I decided to leave since there was no apology from the owner, no effort whatsoever to fix the situation. They clearly did not care. Why is this place called 'We Care' ??? I had had to ask twice for my ruined sweater, the owner did not want to hand it over but eventually they did. As I was leaving, the owner went over to the cash register, I suppose in an effort to grudgingly refund my $12.50. I held up my teeny tiny sweater to them and asked 'Are you proud of this???' No answer. They can keep their dirty money. I walked out. read more

Perhaps they do not know what it is like living in a place where the only option is a storefront dry cleaners and clerks at the desk. Cy a great job with alterations. It looks like there are a variety of locations that other reviews on this page are talking about. My review is about the We Care cleaners on Lafayette in Portsmouth, near Lang Rd. I've been in three times. I was initially referred by my tailor; he said this is the only place he trusts with fine clothes. My first experience was fine, and was more than half a year ago. My second and third visits, which were in the last couple weeks, will be my last. Both times recently, as I stood at the counter to drop off and pick up items, including very precious wedding garments, a very strong smell of cigarette smoke came through the propped-open double front doors and filled the room. On the first of my two recent visits, I complained about this to the attendant at the counter, and I said that cigarette smoke is bad for clothing, and inappropriate at a business that is supposed to clean clothes. The attendant simply said it was the owner smoking outside, and that therefore the attendant could not pass on the complaint, suggesting that doing so would be futile. The second time, it was the attendant smoking outside. I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, and I don't want to pay to have my clothes "cleaned" in a location frequently subjected to cigarette smoke. I also don't want to patronize a business where customer complaints go unaddressed and where staff don't escalate issues to management when necessary. I will not be back, and I will discourage others from patronizing this business. read more

No ... I repeat, NO stars! I took my NEW comforter here and when I got it back, it was completely ruined. There were little flowers attached to this comforter that were falling off and wrinkled, holes in my comforter, and places that were ripped and re-sewn by the dry cleaner! I brought this to Mr.Kim's attention, saying I wanted to be reimbursed for the comforter and dry cleaning, and he yelled at me and locked himself in his office (I didn't get reimbursed for anything to say the least). I tried everyday for a week to get a hold of him, leaving messages and speaking with the workers there.. Months later I still haven't heard from him. I even threatened to call the BBB, but he obviously doesn't care. Total bummer! I wouldn't be upset if he would have at least spoke with me. dO NOT go here! I honestly do not understand why a business that is IN THE BUSINESS of cleaning and pressing clothes, cant seem to get a handle on doing it and doing it right. After trying nearly every dry cleaners in the area, I gave We Care a shot. My first visit was a great one, my clothes came back neatly pressed and all of my alterations were done perfectly. Sadly, the second and third time were not that good, they were actually horrible and brought me to tears that they had ruined not only hundreds of dollars of clothing, but I am also out the nearly $150 I paid for SIX dresses to be cleaned and pressed. The dresses were still dirty, and one of the dresses was only half pressed. The entire bodice was wrinkled. After I called to complain and tell them they would no longer have my business, I received a voicemail later on telling me to bring the dresses back and they will re-ress them. No thanks. I shouldnt have to drive ALL the way back and wait for you to do your job right on a second chance. Sorry folks, professionalism, high quality and skilled workers are the key to a successful business. read more

I've been going to Mr Kim for a cloudless years now and it's gotten to the pint where I won't go back. When my last order was done wrong he fought me on fixing them, then went so far as to charge me for the fix. He argued with me in front of customers, and this last repair would not even come down to see my pants. His schedule is erratic at best. Pay for good tailoring and see Mr Carl in Portsmouth. We Care Cleaners is the ONLY cleaner in the York area so they can charge whatever they want and if they lose your clothing or ruin it, they usual have some lame excuse and refuse to to be responsible for it. My husband sent in a good shirt and it came back 3 sizes too big. My brother who is 6.2 with long arms took it when they refused to refund his money. He had to have the sleeves shortened. They could give no explanation and refused to deal with us. I am tired of poorly stitched hemlines and clothing not done properly and exorbitant prices. This dry cleaner shrunk three of my sweaters. Mr. Kim the owner refused to take responsibility or compensate me for the sweaters. Do not go here. I will never take any clothes here again. He made me try on the sweaters on in front of other customers. They clearly did not fit and I could not button the sweaters. It was very embarrassing. Then he took my measurements and wrote them down. I was mortified at how he handled the situation. He argued with me that he does not shrink clothes and sent them back to me with a photocopied piece of paper that lists measurements on it. This place is pretty good overall. They provide a good value for the services they offer. Most of the negative reviews tell me more about the reviewer, and their lack of common sense, than it does about this business. I wear suits daily, so I've gone tons of tailors and dry cleaners over the years in different cities and states. First, for the tailoring, you can't beat their prices in Portsmouth. If you need complicated work done or you don't know yourself how clothes should fit, then find a real tailor. But if you want speed (some tailors around here have 3 month waits) and low cost this is the place. But I'd say you have to know a little about cloth alterations yourself and keep it limited and simple. Okay...now for the dry cleaning. The prices are a decent value for the Seacoast (which can be an expensive region). The clothes are always cleaned reasonably well. Once or twice they were unable to get a stain out. That is part and parcel of the risk of owning fine clothes. Trust me, every dry cleaner is the same in that regard. Some stains can't be removed, that's life. They always get the clothes done by the date on the ticket. read more

I have been going here for years, even before they moved into that big yellow monstrosity. They have excellent tailoring and great prices for the quality of work you get. They also did an excellent job on my drapes!!! It does get a little hot in the summer time, but it's nice in the winter to go in and warm up while dropping off the shirts. Mr. Kim is always there in the morning before they open at 7:00 with a smile on his face to greet anyone who comes into his shop. Got there at at 2:53pm on Saturday. When i pulled in the lights were already off and the door was locked. Luckily i waited about a minute and the lady working walked out. I asked if they were really closed because it said 3:00pm online. She said yes they were closed and i should have come in earlier. After i told her i needed my uniform for a military wedding tonight she finally said i could get it really quick (still before 3:00pm). When we went in she said i'm gonna have to wait because she had to get back into the computer (very rude tone) like it was a really big deal. The whole time i was in there she was very abrasive and kept muttering how ridiculous this was. She quickly found my uniform and put it on the hook. It came out to 14 and change, i gave her a 20 for the "major inconvenience". I barely said a word the entire time i was in there and got nothing but unwarranted attitude. She was closing early, and acted without a trace of professionalism the entire time i was there. Oh and by the way, despite all of her complaining i still left there with 2 minutes to spare. We discovered We Care Dry Cleaners in Portsmouth NH four years ago, and they are by far the absolute BEST dry cleaner in the Tri-City/Seacoast area. Terrific personnel, always friendly and accommodating, and following the initial first few visits, we are always addressed by our names whenever we walk in the door! My wife and I are treated like we are their most important customer during our multiple visits each week (and how many companies do that anymore?) If there are any errors (and errors are far and few between), the owners and the staff bend over backwards to correct them. We were thoroughly delighted to find them, and would drive over to Portsmouth from Dover regularly to have our laundry done there. When we have special requests as to how we like our laundry done, we only have to tell them once. For those of you that are old timers in the military, and appreciate heavily starched BDUs, this is place that understands what "heavily starched" means! You can almost cut yourself on the sharp creases that they manage to put into my blouses and trousers. Other than my request for heavily starched items, most items that you drop off before 10 AM can be retrieved the same day after 3 PM. My wife recently dropped off three leather handbags that had sat in water following a flood. They looked and smelled absolutely disgusting, and I was about to throw them out, when she retrieved them and brought them to We Care to see if they could save them. Clearly, the staff there loves a challenge, and they worked on all three items for 9-10 days, until THEY were happy with the way two out of the three looked. Frankly, I felt that the three of them looked almost brand-new once they were done with them. However, the owner would only charge us for the two that he was happy with, and refused to charge us for the third, since he felt that he couldn't get it back to its original condition. Run, don't walk away from this drycleaning business. Better yet, just go elsewhere from the beginning. Customer service is non-existent. I had some rugs cleaned by them that came back in worse shape than they were when I left them. The owners explained that that was because they were dirty! Huh? That is why I brought them to a 'cleaner'! They offered to redo them. After a total of 8 weeks, I have rugs that look worse than when I dropped them off. Was told repeatedly dates to pick up that were bogus....'come back again next week' they kept saying...When I would call to see if there're ready, I would be put on hold and they would never come back to pickup the call! NIGHTMARE....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! There are plenty of Dry cleaner choices here in Portsmouth.....don't put yourself through the agony of dealing with these folks.....:-( read more

Good cleaning but not that affordable for working people. Alterations are excellent, again, not that affordable, Rug cleaning, stay away. Ruined two rugs that were modern heirlooms, meaning bought within the last 30 years, one was Persian. They ship the rugs out to Canada, so they themselves did not cause the harm, but I still had to pay. One is entirely destroyed, the other is fine in a dark corner. read more
