This place has a lot of options from really unusual dresses by local designers to same old same old (i.e. strapless). It had dresses at several price points and the consultants weren't pushy at all. I went to ~4-5 places and this place was my favorite. First of all, the dresses all fit me, so I didn't have to try to imagine what the size 15 sample size would look like when it fit me properly in my actual size (I'm normally a 4 or 6). Second, the dress I chose was elegant, with bead & lace and not strapless, for $775. Yes, you read that correctly. My sister in law got a similar steal on a likewise gorgeous dress there. I will say that I took it elsewhere for alterations- a seamstress in Orland Park who altered it for next to nothing (in fairness, it needed very little work). 826 charges a minimum consulting fee of $250 or some craziness. This place is a true GEM! I went here in 2013 because 2 of my cousins who had gotten married earlier bought their dresses here as well. I came in with my sister because we both got married in 2014. I got married in August of 2014. Scarlet was our consultant and she did SUCH a great job pulling dresses for us. She hit my style exactly. My wedding dress ended up being the 2nd one I tried on. I loved it from first sight and tried it on 2nd because I didn't want to fall in love with the first dress. It was so beautiful and different then other dresses I had seen. It was a fit and flair with lace until the hips. It was a sweetheart neckline. I knew it was "the one" right away. I can't thank Scarlet enough for pulling such an amazing dress! I did go look at other dress shops later that day and nothing compared to the selection of dresses and friendliness of the consultants. I ended up going back later that day and buying the dress because I could NOT stop thinking about it. read more

I almost never write a yelp review, but after seeing so many women having such an overwhelmingly positive experience here, I feel it necessary to share. After go through the reviews again, I wish I'd paid closer attention to some of the more critical ones as many of their experiences paralleled mine. When making my appointment by phone, I told them my budget, which is $2000. The woman on the phone told me that this was a great budget for this store because nothing is over $3000. Upon arriving for my appointment, the shop was adorable and felt very luxurious. I was offered champagne. They had a large selection of veils and accessories up front that all looked very nice. Not sure of the prices on these items since I was only browsing. I sat down with my consultant, Melissa, and explained to her what I wanted. This was not my first appointment, and I had an idea in my head already. I was looking for a mermaid-style dress in lace and was open to both straps or strapless. Again, I told her my budget. She then led me past the empty, mirrored lounge to a small dressing room in the back where I had to try on all the gowns in front of the group I brought with. Having made my appointment 4 weeks in advance, I didn't expect to be cooped up in the back room, especially when no one was even in the showroom. Melissa pulled around 5 dresses for me to try on and asked me my thoughts on them. 2 were simply not interesting to me right off the bat so we moved on to the remainders. The first remaining dress I put on was fine, but not my taste. It was then that she told me it was $2300. It turned out none of the remaining dresses she'd pulled were within my budget. My consultant went back to pull more dresses, but everything she brought back was either not my requested style (lace mermaid) or not within my budget. It was clear that their selection was very limited, and I wish she would've just told me they had nothing that met my requirements instead of wasting my time. Also, worth noting, the samples in this store are very small compared to other bridal stores. I'm a size 0-2 in retail stores (not sure of my bridal size), and everything I tried on was only a size or two too large. The dresses they showed me also all tended to be very vintage-inspired. This is not a problem, but something to be aware of depending on the style you're looking for. I left annoyed having only tried on 3 or 4 dresses. This is a cute store, but if you're not willing to be flexible on your budget or your vision for your dress, I would look elsewhere. read more

After talking with a friend who purchased her wedding dress at Weddings 826 and had a great experience and admiring the beautiful dresses in the window when walking by the shop for months, I was really looking forward to my appointment here. Unfortunately, from the get-go, my experience was pretty negative. Though I had made an appointment for a Wednesday afternoon, when my friend and I arrived, the staff did not seem to be expecting us at all. They seemed a bit taken aback when we took them up on their offer of champagne -- we were hoping to have a great time and find a beautiful wedding dress, why wouldn't we want some champs? The consultant pulled some beautiful dresses, but there was something "off" about the entire experience. I felt a lot of pressure to "fall in love" with the dresses, and ultimately decided just to leave because I was so uncomfortable. My best guess is that, since I did not bring a large entourage, my family was not present (because they live on the east coast), and I appear young, that the consultants at Weddings 826 did not take me to be a "serious" dress-buyer and, thus, a waste of their time. My friend and I both felt like were were treated condescendingly, and I now shudder every time I walk by the store front. Definitely would not recommend Weddings 826. read more

Very cute boutique. Made an appointment out here during a visit to Chicago with bridesmaid. Since it was a last minute appointment, I had to take one of the rooms on the side. Usually, the prime "dress appointment" spot would be in the room with all the dresses, but because I was in a side room, my consultant asked me what I was looking for and what my price range was and brought over dresses that fit that bill. I think they work with a variety of price ranges - although if you want more of a selection, you should probably be more flexible in the $2-4K zone. My consultant was really sweet and helpful. Although I didn't get my dress here, this was the first place I really LOVED a dress and knew what style looked good on me (Granted, it was only my second bridal store at that point). But that moment of realizing what you want to look for is priceless. They even send out a thank you for coming card afterwards! How sweet! read more

So two of my closest friends surprised me with a wedding dress shopping expedition. That was probably the best part of the day. BUT we did go to Weddings 826, they served us Champagne and water and we were able to have a huge dressing room to ourselves. Also I tried on a few tiaras, because when else can you wear a tiara without everyone making fun of you (unless you are 5) The dresses were all beautiful and presented nicely. I only saw one dressing room in the entire store but it was huge with lots of natural light which was nice. The pros: 1) The natural light was nice 2) The sales woman was super sweet and NOT pushy. I told her that this was one of my first times shopping so I think that she knew I would not decide that day. Also she sent me a thank you note! :) 3) There was an okay selection of colors and styles. Also the dresses were in categories, so it was easy to sift through 4) There were a lot of small sizes, which was nice cause I could get a better sense of what would look good. Though, that is personal preference. The cons: 1) I would have liked more help with choosing a dress that would work for my body shape 2) It is all off the rack. So if you find something that you like, then you kind of have to make a decision quickly. I am the slowest decision maker ever so that was not in the cards for me 3) Also as a result of being off the rack, you buy a dress that someone else has tried on. Or multiple someone elses. I kind of envisioned having a nice clean dress (with a non broken zipper) so that was something that bothered me I did find some really nice options...and for extremely reasonable prices. I am still looking and I may go back with my mom when she comes into town. BEST WEDDING BOUTIQUE EVERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! The associates are extremely knowledgable about the dresses, including knowing estimation costs of alterations, which is extra helpful when you are on a budget. Also, there are no pressure sales! When I found my dress they said whenever I am ready to make a decision to give them a call. When I bought my dress they assured me that the alterations I wanted (changing a halter-top Vneck into a sweet-heart neckline with a key-hole back) was possible and would be reasonable pricing. The alterations department was nothing but amazing! Not only did they get my vision but they even made it better than I ever could imagine... WITHIN BUDGET!!!!! The shop is beautiful and quaint and the staff is sweet and so friendly. Once I bought my dress, I got discounts on their beautiful accessories. Recently purchased my wedding dress after visiting 2 other shops. Rachel asked me what I was looking for and pulled a few dresses within my budget. She was really able to narrow down exactly what I wanted within just a few questions. I ended up finding my perfect dress and within budget. I was going to buy if off the rack as to save even a little more money. My wedding is coming up quickly so i thought this would be fastest. Rachel offered to call the designer themselves to see how fast they could ship out the dress and it will be here in just a month so I ended up ordering a brand new one in my save to hopefully save on alterations to the dress. The shop is beautiful, everyone there seems very knowledgable. The accessories looked great as well; a large selection of jewelry and veils. I'll keep you posted. 2 months later: My dress came in on time. It looked great. I went to try it on at the store and again was told it would be less than $200 for alterations which is part of the reason I bought this dress. Made an appointment with their alterations dept. Alteration appt was a bust. The lady that greeted me was sweet but the actual seamstress was rather crass. I didn't have a good feeling about it like I did downstairs in the shop. She pinned my hem and train and I was ready to go. They then said the price was $325 and no one should have quoted me at less than $200. I left my dress there and said I would think about it. Asked friends who recently got married and they said to the Alterationist! I emailed her as my wedding is 2 months away and asked if she would so consider taking a look at my dress. I was able to go there on my lunch break and she really took the time to talk mea through the alterations and gave me a written quote that was literally half the price of Weddings 826! Unreal! I did not end up buying my dress here but I did use them for my alterations! They did such an amazing job at making sure my dress fit comfortably and was manageable on my wedding day. I am not as they would say blessed in the chest and my dress had quite a bit of embellishing so I'm sure it was extremely challenging to bring in. You couldn't tell they made any changes at all. My chief driving factor in this 5-star rating is that my dress was 588.00. (It's an Anaiss dress, which is reasonable anyway, but this is discounted twice--the second time for 25%) This boutique proved better for me than Jenny Yoo or Bella Bridesmaid (which carries bride's dresses as well). Jenny Yoo was packed, and the dresses were beautiful, but pricey. The worst experience with Jenny Yoo was that they promised to have three dresses in by my appointment date, but they didn't. Wedding 826 is a brownstone in Lincoln Park with the 1st level rooms converted into dressing areas. There's room for you and maybe three other people, if all of you are friendly. Don't bring people who vaguely know each other or who only marginally get along. The quarters are too close. Anyway, the woman who helped me was great. She found perfect dresses in my price range, (and ultimately, below my budget). Then she did something odd and strangely endearing. She sketched out the three dresses i picked and wrote down the information beside her sketches. It was kind of adorable. I don't know what else to say besides this--five hundred and eighty-eight *(&$%@ dollars for a beautiful dress. In short, this experience was better for me than at other bridal shops. read more

The alterations department at Weddings 826 were a dream come true!! After taking my dress to a very highly recommended tailor in Lakeview, my dress had been taken in way too much and the bust was altered so it barely zipped (I couldn't move or breathe!). I called Weddings 826 in a panic about 2-1/2 weeks before my wedding and they were able to accommodate the alterations with no hesitation. I was greeted with a glass of champagne when I arrived very nervous with my poorly altered dress. They looked over the previous alterations and clearly explained their game plan to fix it. They answered all my questions at every fitting making me feel more comfortable each time I came in. They did explain that from what the previous shop did there would be some stitch marks under the arms that couldn't be undone, but reassured me they wouldn't be very noticeable. They even added new hanger straps that were way more durable than the ones my dress was purchased with, and a much better garment bag! I loved their honesty and they made me LOVE my gown again!! When I came to them with my dress I could barely put it on without getting upset from the previous shops screw-up. I left feeling so excited to wear my dress down the aisle!! Weddings 826 sure is charming and I think a great place to bring your close squad and have your 'yes to the dress' moment in a more intimate setting. I very much enjoyed my experience here, even though I did not find the "one" here. I even came back to one of their bridal events, and might peruse again at their accessories - they definitely have a good selection on that. This small looking shop is deceiving, as they definitely have dresses packed in all the rooms. I did, however, find that many of their lace dresses to be more on the dated looking type of lace, but that's just my personal preference. Had a really pleasant experience at Weddings 826! Was my third time trying on dresses and this location was the most relaxed (and cutest) of them all. I worked with Kayla who was very sweet and easy to be around. If you're hunting in Chicago, they have far more reasonable options than downtown (but that's probably obvious...). Their sample sizes are a bit smaller than other places (6-12, but not too many 12's) so just keep in mind that if you are a street size 12, you may be a bit limited on what you can try on. Underwhelming experience... Since my sister found her dress here a few years back, we were excited to come back to see if our other sister would find her dress. We had an appointment and were eager to begin the experience for my sister's first dress shopping experience and it did not deliver one bit. The door was locked when we arrived and had to wave someone down to open the door up for our scheduled appointment. I believe the consultant's name was Samantha, and I had to ask my sister because she didn't introduce herself to the family. Besides bringing champagne, which I would have traded for better customer service, I was underwhelmed yet again. My sister tried on dresses and the consultant stood at the doorway, not creating a vision, not building the dress, so I got up several times to ask for a veil, flowers, and even pinched the dress in myself to help my sister envision how beautiful she will look. I was actually a bit confused on whether the consultant was trying to help find the dress for my sister or not. The dress my sister liked the most, was one she herself found in a closet. Meh- is a good way to describe the experience... I had way better customer service at David's Bridal when I was dress shopping back in 2010. I LOVED this bridal shop. The people who work here are very nice and very helpful. They let us take photos, and when I was done, they even drew pictures of the dresses I liked and wrote down the price and name so I'd remember each one! The dresses are stylish and modern--I found a few with an Art Deco flair (very in right now) and one that made me think of the giant dress Carrie Bradshaw wears in Paris. You know the one. I would echo most of the reviews on here for Weddings 826. The overall experience of shopping for the dress is wonderful. The selection of dresses was excellent, and the consultant was friendly and knowledgable. I would recommend getting alterations elsewhere. After talking with a few friends who had alterations at other locations, Weddings 826 was much pricier. During my 2nd fitting appointment I told them I was having trouble breathing. When I came back for my final fitting, they had loosened it in top of my ribs, but TIGHTENED it in the waist. When I brought this concern up in the 3rd fitting, they said it was necessary to keep my dress up. During my wedding day the tight waist did not help to keep it up, it actually made it fall down, because it was too tight at the bottom of my ribs. This made the hemline too long, and I was stepping on it all night. Although I did love the design and look of the dress for most of the day, I changed out of it for the last hour and a half of the reception so that I could dance. I loved this wedding shop!!! I didn't get my dress from here (I bought it in Oregon while visiting my Mom) but when it came to alterations it had to be done in Chicago. I searched EVERYWHERE for a good alterations place and I finally picked this one because the staff just seemed so amazing. Well I was right, not only did I get my alterations here I bought my veil (which to be honest I didn't think I even wanted a veil and yet standing there I found one that was perfect), I bought my shoes (which I was having a difficult time deciding on and then amazingly I found them here when I was trying on heights of shoes for my dress!) and I bought jewelry! The staff here is just beyond amazing!!! Suzy was probably the sweetest person I ever met and when my shoes came in the wrong size she let me trade them in for a different size! The alterations also came out really great. I have to say I was a little bit nervous at first because each time I would go in there was something they forgot to add but I just think I was being over conscious of it. At my last fitting everything was in place and perfect! The alterations I did on my dress included taking a strapless dress to sweetheart style and I added a bustle. The sweetheart neckline was perfect. The bustle came out looking really great as well but at some point in the night I must have stepped on it and ripped out the bustle on one half of the dress. At that point I didn't care since it had done its job, plus I'm pretty sure that was my fault and nothing against the seamstress. So to conclude: for any nervous brides on where to take their very expensive once and a life time dress, I absolutely recommend Weddings 826. read more

We were a bit early and they took us right in, supplied us with champagne and set us free in their room full of dresses. Their selection was varied, affordable, and very well taken care of since they sell their samples off the rack. I can't say enough about our consultant Tara. She was so helpful and you could really tell she loved her job. Weddings 826's staff is a dream!!! I decided to still get married this June (during Covid) and Suzi made all my wedding dress dreams come true! My original dress was at a different boutique but I couldn't pick it up because the shop was close due to Covid. I told Suzi my situation and she went above and beyond to help me find my new dream dress. Once the dress came in Kayla did my alterations and helped me feel so comfortable in my new dress. My group sat outside in the show room and I was taken to a very large and beautiful fitting room. The bathroom had anything you could need for a long day of dress fittings (Bobby pins, hairspray, etc) There were plenty of dresses to choose from at all price points. My consultant Christina was great to work with. She pulled some options after asking what I wanted and stayed within my budget (under $1000). The only dresses over the budget were the ones that I pulled. They have a great selection of samples as well; however they are only 15% off the retail price. There was no pressure, and Christina worked with me to style my 2 favorites and write everything down for future reference. If you buy your dress here, they'll give you 30% off accessories. Hands down, my experience here was the best of the day of dress shopping. While I've ultimately decided to get my dress from somewhere else, we had the most fun here! Starting with the glasses of champagne, friendly staff, lots of beautiful and different dresses... and you get the whole place to yourself! Yay! Suzi, the owner, was helping us and could not have been nicer or more tuned in to what I was looking for. We whipped through trying a ton of dresses too - we were in a bit of a hurry - but no matter to her. Her lightning quick fingers zipped and clipped me in to everything I wanted to see. And she lets you take as many pictures as you want, which is great, because it's tough keeping a mental image of what you like among the blur of gowns. Lots of cute accessories to choose from too - may be back to look for a head piece. I had a great experience here with two friends and a two-month-old. There was champagne, Kisses in a bowl, and a nice big room to parade around in. We had our pick of gowns, and I tried on about ten, leaving the favorites for one additional try-on at the end of the appointment. My top two favorites ended up being about 700 and about 1300 -- so you can tell they do actually have a good price range for most people, and that "high price" doesn't equal "better gown". My consultant was gracious, knowledgeable, and helpful. I even got a thank-you note a few weeks later -- I love this friendly touch. I learned of Weddings 826 from a friend who purchased her dress there and decided to visit for an initial scouting day with my mom. The minute you walk in you know that you are going to have a special experience. I absolutely love how the shop has that small boutique feel and while I'm not the girliest of girls, you are absolutely wrapped in a cloud of wedded bliss. You can't help but get excited for this experience - and the complementary glass of champagne or tea doesn't hurt either! Suzi, the owner of Weddings 826, helped me with my appointment. She was so nice in listening to what I thought I might like and although I was able to pretty much try on any dress in the salon, she knew exactly what I would like. Frankly, I wasn't sure about her selection when it was on the mannequin, but after putting it on I knew that it was exactly what I wanted. In fact, it really is the only dress that I ever loved how I looked. Oh, how I wish I could wear it again. Because my sisters and future mother-in-law were coming to Chicago a couple of weeks later, we held off purchasing the dress so that they could be part of this special experience. The one thing to note is that Weddings 826 has a policy that once a dress is purchased, especially by someone in Chicago, it is taken off the floor. For six weeks I prayed that no one bought this dress! Fortunately when we returned after a day at Nordstrom and Jenny Yoo, the dress was there and I was able to put it on for my sisters and moms (we saved the best for last). No other experience compared to how special and beautiful I felt at Weddings 826 - and I still do. Suzi and her team of girls really do make you feel special, throughout your entire experience. To be honest, I never really understood why there have been so many less-than-stellar reviews about the alterations experience because I felt like everything went smoothly. Even when Maggie went into early labor weeks before my wedding, Rachel was ready and prepared to take over. Plus, the new alterations space upstairs really provides you with a comfortable place to talk about waist size and built-in bra cups. If you are a Chicago girl getting married, do yourself a favor and make sure Weddings 826 is on your list of places to go. I had terrific service with my consultant, and even received a nice handwritten note afterwards in the mail. But with a few appointments under my belt, I realize that I really didn't find any dresses I was remotely close to purchasing. Actually, there was only one (I may have tried on 5 total) that gave me pause. But it was a sample with a large rip, so I'm guessing that fix, a good cleaning, and alterations would have run me more than the price of the dress. Perhaps if I'd been in the larger room (it was already booked) I could have run amuck pulling gowns and probably been talked into spending a bit more than intended. I didn't browse accessories much, but it looked like they had some great things to choose from. Don't hesitate to schedule an appointment, just had to give an honest review based on selection only. Beautiful boutique with reasonably priced dresses. From the beginning till the end Suzi and her ladies did a great job being attentive and understanding.The dresses they carry are timeless. Alterations with Debbie was on point. I had a tube top wedding gown and it was fit perfectly, the dress stayed up all day and I did not feel the need to pull it up. I had THE BEST experience here!! Coming into Weddings 826 was my first time ever trying on any wedding dress, ever, so it was a pretty nerve-wracking feeling once I was actually in the fitting room with the gowns. Sara was my helper/sales associate...I'm not sure what the best or correct title is for her, but let's just call her an all-around sweetheart and Superhero! Sara was totally re-assuring throughout that first gown try-on and made me feel totally comfortable in what was, at first, an uncomfortable feeling -- I'd never seen myself in a wedding gown before so it was very startling when I first looked in the mirror! However, after the second dress and then the third, fourth, and finally the fifth, I felt like a pro and was totally relaxed! Anyway, back to the business. This place is just totally adorable! It's situated in an old home with lots of charm! Wood floors, original wood porch and super cute vintage-themed interior. My bridesmaids and mom really loved the experience here. We all got champagne (helped me with those nerves), and my party got the cutest room to hang out in while I got in and out of the gowns. Sara was totally non-pressuring, but also so very helpful when it came to questions about material, color, veil styles, jewelry, you name it! Their gown selection was also right up my alley! I honestly wasn't sure what to expect with their gowns, especially since I had what I think is a very specific type of dress that I wanted. I showed Sara a few pictures on my phone and she nodded her head right away, went off to the back, and pulled up 4 or 5 of the most perfect dresses, all in my style! Romantic, lots of tulle, not-too-princess-y....It was all perfect. Weddings 826 saved me! I bought a dress from another store in December for my June wedding. When the dress didn't arrive as scheduled in March, I was left scrambling for a new dress 3 months before my wedding. Weddings 826 helped me find a lovely (off-the-rack) dress and their in-house tailor, Brian, got the alterations done in time. For such a small place, they have a wide selection of dresses, both off-the-rack and order-only.
