Extremely pleased with WHDC! It was very easy to schedule the move by simple phone call to Dave, and he was able to give us our preferred day a week later. His crew of three (Dave, Will, and Gary) were great guys, super easy to work with, very good at what they do, and they never complained despite working a very long and demanding day in the July heat, in fact on a "heat advisory" day. The move entailed two trucks and four stops, including some furniture we were donating that they took care of the next day on their own. Their pricing is very reasonable and they are more than accommodating of any changes that may occur on moving day (e.g., we asked them to disassemble and move a gym quality big, heavy treadmill up a steep flight of narrow stairs). Amazing experience all around! My movers (Will and Garry) were on time (even at 8 AM) and were so polite. They were super efficient and came prepared with wrap and blankets. The movers were on time. They were knowledgeable with how to strategically move large pieces of furniture into tight places. They didn't mess around or take long routes when driving from our old apartment to our new one. As a matter of fact, we left before them and somehow they got to the new place before us! Will be using this company from now on. I have had horrible moving experiences with DC area companies in the past - movers that taped or bubbled wrapped or plastic wrapped everything in sight and then charged me hundreds of extra dollars for those materials, movers that had one person sitting in the truck for the entire move, movers that had immense difficulty finding a loading dock, etc. With WeHaul DC my movers were exactly on time, found the loading docks themselves, and then were incredibly fast at their work, while still being careful. They also seemed to enjoy what they did. I paid a flat fee per hour and paid absolutely nothing (except tip) on top of that. It was such a relief after having been charged random fees in the past. WeHaul did an absolutely amazing job with my move. Dave, the owner, was very responsive throughout the whole quote and scheduling process, and the guys arrived right on time the day of. After an incredibly frustrating snafu at my apartment (which was caused by another moving company refusing to give up the loading dock at our start time), Dave himself showed up to assess the situation and sent us another guy, even though he had only allotted for two men on the job. SUMMARY: Above. And. Beyond. 10% more expensive and 100% worth it. FULL STORY: Dave and his team are basically what you hope movers will be... responsive and communicative (personal, informative emails, not automated responses), honest, timely, careful, STRONG........ and funny as an added bonus. These guys made the inherently weird and stressful experience of moving a lot more manageable. To set the scene, I had to adjust my long-distance moving schedule last-minute for work. These guys made it happen... in the summer.... on a holiday weekend. And I didn't hear a negative or downer comment the entire time. I had recently injured my knee, and I was leaving a city I loved and all my friends for a city I did not love with a bunch of strangers and an intense job. It was hot, humid, and I hadn't slept well. Suffice it to say, I looked crazy and my morale was not optimal. Minutes before these guys showed up, I accidentally sliced my hand while cutting tape and started weeping. AND YET. They were nothing but helpful and efficient, and provided MUCH-needed comic relief. When I arrived at my new apartment, I was shocked to find that the place was not at all as described -- separate review pending, further tears underway. Noise blasting, drunken neighbors leering, giant spiders, broken fixtures, and worse-than-DC parking right in the midwest were some of the pleasures we faced together. All I can say is that I was so glad it was these guys helping me. Their flat estimate for a long-distance move was a little bit higher than some others.... but as mentioned, worth it, and they did not nickel-and-dime on a couple extra boxes and help they kindly provided. You should keep in mind: This isn't some huge conglomerate with 50 trucks and a warehouse. in their case, that's a good thing. But be aware that they don't keep or sell supplies -- You've gotta have all your boxes, tape, etc prepped ahead. They do bring shrink wrap and aren't afraid to use it! There's nobody better! Over the years, I've moved with small-scale apartment movers, big-name movers (paid for with a company relocation, otherwise I'd never afford them), and nobody compares. The move was for a house (and a packed storage unit) to a new house with *way* too many stairs. Dave and his crew (four in total) got everything done quickly, efficiently, and professionally from start to finish. I worked with Dave on my semi long-distance move from Northern VA to the Richmond area. Dave was wonderful to work with and he sent Adam and Garry who were equally wonderful. They took care of all of my items, fit my things in the smaller truck and were very easy to work with. My wife and I used WeHaul twice in one year, once last June when we were moving her things to my place and once this February when we were moving to a bigger place. Both times we used them, Dave and his team were professional, courteous, and extremely efficient. We had a number of fragile items (such as several large framed paintings), and they took great care to properly wrap everything to prevent damages. And they did a great job under tricky conditions -- our moves were in downtown areas (DuPont/Logan) with narrow alleys, scarce parking, and small loading areas. The price was extremely reasonable, and unlike many other moving companies they actually charged us the quoted price without tacking on a bunch of extras. We scheduled these guys to help is move from Alexandria to Silver Spring; one bedroom apt to a house. Will showed up half an hour early (bonus!) with 2 other guys. We already had everything packed and ready to go. Apparently, this isn't always the case... who the heck hires movers and doesn't bother to pack? Anyway, Will and company had the truck packed in just over an hour and had everything in the house in less than an hour. In total, they got everything done in the expected 3 hours. They somehow lost an original piece of artwork that I had inherited from my grandmother. The painted was 3 feet x 3 feet so how it disappeared... I will never understand. There was also minor damage to my dressers and TV stand and they misplaced a few smaller items that they later found in their truck and returned to me. The owner was very nice and I appreciated his willingness to work with me to get the issues resolved but this was by far the worst moving experience I have ever had. read more

These guys were awesome! Gary and Adam showed up on time and ready to work. They were efficient and very careful with everything we had including multiple fragile (lots of glass) and heavy pieces including a filled dresser which they handled with care - nothing was broken at all during the move!
