We had our wedding here early May and despite some frustrations, we are happy we chose the venue. The property is absolutely stunning, and having an all inclusive location with lodging, food, alcohol, getting ready spaces, and beautiful grounds for photos made wedding planning much easier and more convenient for us and our wedding party. That being said, we experienced several communication and organization issues throughout the planning process and wedding weekend: Early on, our tasting was difficult to schedule, and once we arrived, the chef did not seem aware we were coming or prepared with the menu options we had already selected to taste. A few weeks before the wedding, we were also informed there were only two guest suites available despite originally being shown three during our tour. This caused one set of parents to scramble for last minute lodging arrangements and an additional last minute cost. When we arrived for the wedding weekend, Joe informed us the entire kitchen staff had quit about a month prior, and he was personally trying to manage both the winery operations, the wedding, and the kitchen. Unfortunately, this seemed to show throughout the weekend. The rehearsal dinner was honestly chaotic. Guests had pre selected entrees ahead of time, but the servers did not have the list and were running around trying to figure out who ordered what (now, I will add that some of the guests could not recall their choice and that added to the issue, but this would've been resolved by the servers calling their name). The food came out cold (our rehearsal did take longer than scheduled, so this may have been part of the issue), lacked flavor, and was nothing like the quality we had experienced during normal visits to the winery. It felt very obvious there was a breakdown in communication between management and staff. At the reception, several food items we had selected were substituted without our knowledge, and both entrees were missing components that had been discussed beforehand (selected green beans, got broccoli. Salmon missing sauce. Brisket missing aujus. Pesto pasta was 100% different than the one we loved at the tasting.). We also paid extra for a cheesecake toppings bar for dessert instead of cake, but instead were served what appeared to be pre made cheesecake bites with the only warning being immediately prior to it being brought out. This was especially frustrating because New York cheesecake is already a regular menu item at the winery, so there really did not seem to be a reason for the substitution. We struggled with feeling a bit "bait & switched" on some things. (I'll add here that Joe did make the absolute BEST breakfast burritos the morning of the wedding and I'm still thinking about them!!) One additional thing worth mentioning is that sound travels extremely easily between the guest suites on the main level. We could clearly hear conversation and noise from the neighboring suite, which was not ideal for the honeymoon suite experience. (Honeymoon suite directly next to suite used for Bride's parents...) Adding some soundproofing or reconsidering the placement of guest suite next to the honeymoon suite would make a huge difference for future couples. Overall, Joe was always kind and clearly working extremely hard, but it honestly seems like he has far too much on his plate trying to manage weddings, restaurant service, and winery operations all at once. The venue desperately needs more delegation and staffing support to avoid the communication breakdowns we experienced. That said, this venue is still very new to hosting weddings and only in its second season, so we did go into it expecting there might be some growing pains along the way. The venue itself truly is beautiful and has so much potential to provide an incredible wedding experience, and I do think with more time, staffing, and organization behind the scenes, it could easily grow into an even better venue than it already is. We stopped in forunch and found a diamond in the country beautifully designed, wonderful beautiful landscaping and very pretty view from the parking lot. Initially when you pull ip in front it has a castle kind of look. Inside it just as beautiful decorations and furnishings, down a long hall way that leads you toa huge dining room, from the floor to the lighting it's just beautiful. A w All of windows over looking grape vines. Rolling ground to hills in the distance and beautiful huge colorful trees changing colors, a covered patio with table and chairs.Can tell you what a gorgeous facilities that is there, you have to live to truly enjoy it. Then the foods, they have a really nice menus with about taste you may have and prepared very nice presentation good. We both had huge salads, I must have French Onion soup any where I find it and it and was very good nice cheese top, good taste. To to finish off lunch with nice white wine then finished it off with a slice cheese cake which was very tastefully. Everything was just wonderful, didn't get to look around to much but next time seeing its close by and easy to reach from Farmington or off Hwy 55 south to Hwy 32. Chill and Slow Day at Weingarten Winery in Sainte Genevieve. It's absurdly pretty with rolling hills, all the grape vines surrounding you, and both indoor and outdoor seating options. I ordered the crab cakes of course because #stlouispescatarianapproved, and we also tackled the charcuterie board, which could feed a small country or at least 6 very hungry wine drinkers. Later, we wandered inside for live music. If you're looking for a chill day that accidentally becomes an entire experience, this is your spot. read more

Love this place. Back in September we stopped by to take photos here for our wedding and the whole staff was very nice and the views were great. We took pictures all around the place, and at the end the owner gave us a complimentary bottle of Champaign. We will definitely be back, couldn't ask for better service or kinder people! read more

In a word this place is breathtaking. The view is beautiful. The rooms are gorgeous! It is currently switching owners and they still accommodated us. We had 2 couples celebrating anniversaries and birthdays and we wanted to stay here. My husband & I were here a year ago and we loved the room and the restaurant. The food was delicious. The owner last year was cooking and his wife was bar tending. We met the Eric the new management team member and he was welcoming and hospitable. This place is a MO gem check it out. Lunch with friends over the weekend and our food was good but the portions are small. Appetizer for the table "Fruit & Cheese" platter did not have enough for everyone to sample each kind. Not sure what happened with our order but I wound up with 2 Cuban sandwiches and the vegetarian didn't get their order entered into the system so they had to wait another 15 for their salad to come out. Obviously a one time error but it was odd. Good news for Cuban Sandwich lovers, the Cuban sandwich at the Weingarten is pretty tasty. read more

We learned that this winery is in transition. They have a great appetizer of mushrooms and a great selection of my most favorite California wines: Caymus, Conundrum, etc. Our hostess Connie was wonderful. Our appetizer of mushrooms were exquisite. A very nice surprise. I'm guessing the dinners are prepared just as meaningful too. Unfortunately we were unable to try the dinner but the atmosphere was great and a wonderful view of the property. The 2011 Norton and Norton rose were excellent wines! Staff is super nice. The house dressing was sweet and tangy. Dinner rolls served warm but a store bought white bread style. The tenderloin was ok. Flavors were there but a tad overcooked. The broccoli was cooked perfect and buttery. Sea bass was a bit skimpy on the portion size and needed some more salt but pretty good over all. Molten lava cake was pretty good. Rich dark chocolate. Maybe a tad dry. read more

Imagine if you will- an architect that wants to open a first class winery... The 20,000 square foot winery is open, but still under construction (pics). The open layout screams "I am an architect & this is my dream!" The three level winery is beautiful in design. The great room (pics) with expansive views, ceiling, fireplace & tasting bar put almost all places I have visited to shame. The outside patio & decks will be massive with great views of the growing vineyard & country side. (The patio will be open, weather permitting, for this 4th of July weekend) From the great room I saw the fire oven (pic).. The $8 "beef kabob with veggies" description on the menu was an two skewer understatement. This "beef" was so tender we had to ask about it- the cook/owner/architect said he bought the left over cuts from fillets to make the kabobs. The meat is marinated for 24 hours then fire grilled in the oven with (green, red & yellow) peppers, red onions plus mushrooms that is so good we ordered 2 more to take home. (The meat being cooked to about steakhouse Med-well, but very juicy & tender) The $8 veggie fire baked pizza had very fresh ingredients & great balance of flavors in the thin crust style. We were suggested the calzone... I said yes and it was great for a calzone. We both realized (IMO) cheese & meat combo did not show case the freshness & flavor in comparison to the kabob & veggie pizza. They have a 300 person dining hall in the lower level that is complete. The have two more meetings rooms at both ends of the main level that are available plus a gift shop. The upper level steakhouse & dining/meeting rooms are still under construction. The wine we had was "Princess Sweet" red wine that she likes... I am not the wine connoisseur. (Later I found out they serve a locally brewed beer) I was told they have been having weddings & receptions there since May (opening) Why only 4 stars... this is under construction... they are having a very soft opening by design... attitude was great, but they are still working out how the biz will be run (the husband & wife owner team seem to be great)... I will return in July and update- if things keep moving forward I can see 5 stars. read more

Wow! Spectacular setting and scenery. Just getting to the place feels like an adventure as the driveway is a long, hilly, winding gravel road which crosses an old wooden bridge set high above a railroad line. When you come out of the woods, you are welcomed by a massive stone and brick Bavarian-style lodge with stunning Missouri hillside vistas all around. The interior is just as impressive as the outside with the main room being a large atrium style design with beautiful wood finishes and a grand stone fireplace. As beautiful as the room is, it doesn't match the beautiful views afforded by the floor-to-ceiling windows along the south wall. Just beyond those windows there are two porches overlooking the vineyard and hills of Missouri that provide ample shaded outdoor seating. While the inside IS NOT kid friendly, the abundant seating space and the grassy yard separating the building from the vineyard allows more than enough space for the kiddos to run around and play games while not disturbing the other guests. They offer a variety of house wines from sweet/dry reds to sweet/dry whites. They also offer outside brands of wine as well. The house wines are good to very good. For non-oenophiles, they offer a wide variety of beers on tap; ranging from large national marcobrews to local seasonal microbrews. In a nutshell, come for the wine, but stay for the views! read more

Weingarten for the win! I've been here a few times while winery hopping in Ste. Gen, and it's one of my favorites! Mostly because it's never so ridiculously crowded like a lot of the other spots in the area. Parking is easy (how is it not easy when it's a big gravel lot?) and there's so much space inside. The glass windows overlook pretty rolling hills, and I could drink the Norton 2009 all day and not get tired of it. What else do you need? They have a cute deli with cheese, salami, crackers, breads, and even items like toasted ravs, crab rangoon, and other hot foods. You can also order from a big menu of specialty pizzas! Sandwiches and salads are also great options. They also have a full-blown restaurant with an impressive menu, but I've yet to try it. Wine, live music, a great food selection, and picture-perfect views? Sign me up. read more

We found Weingarten (est. 2011) because we have lake property nearby and we are sure glad we did as it is BEAUTIFUL! Weingarten is definitely the most classy winery I have visited in Missouri. Although the outdoor area is still mostly unfinished, they do have seating available on the deck and more is coming soon. However, the indoor main room is finished and it just gorgeous. We came on a Saturday night when they had a young man singing some Frank Sinatra and other classic low key tunes. We opted to reserve a table and enjoy dinner. FYI you must call to reserve a spot and place your dinner order in advance only if you want a planned sit down dinner. The beef medallions and tilapia were wonderful. The salad and bread were memorably good as well. Although having dinner is on the more pricey side, it was worth it if you are planning on making an entire evening out of visiting Weingarten. They also have a deli/bakery area where you can order food items such as pizza and sandwiches at will if you choose to go that route. Their house made wine selection is small, but I recommend the Norton. None of their other wines were that great and too sweet for me, but the Norton was wonderful if you are dry a red wine drinker. They also have in house brewed beers which were honestly better than the wine. I loved their wheat beer and brown ale the most. All the beers were worth sampling. FYI the wine tasting is $5 for only 3 wine tastings and tasting tokens must be bought in the gift shop area. You can also pay to sample all the beers as well. However, the beers were 12 oz. and were $4. A bit expensive overall, but I was not surprised based on how fancy it is. Weingarten would be perfect for a wedding and reception considering how beautiful it is. They have a large receptions area downstairs that can accommodate 300+. Impressive! They are also building two additional smaller rooms that hold 30-50 guests. Overall, it's just gorgeous, had wonderful, friendly service, great food, great beer, good wine, had great live entertainment, and had a romantic, classy vibe. I will be back! read more

We stopped by around 12:30pm on a Sunday after randomly driving by and spotting the sign. It looked promising, so we figured why not check it out. There were signs for a wedding the night before, so we thought it must be a nice place. We were pretty amazed when we pulled around and saw the impressive size of the space. Oddly, though, there were no other cars there. As we slowly stepped in, we were again surprised with the overall space. It was large, open, and castle-like almost. Still, nobody was around. The bar was empty, the tables were empty. Was anyone home? We finally got the attention of a bartender who was in another room, and she happily helped us with our tasting. We enjoyed their Norton wines and were especially pleased with the oaky reds. At $5 a tasting for three large pours, we were satisfied. We walked around outside a bit and then headed out after finishing the tasting. We still couldn't shake some of the awkwardness of the massive space with no other guests and a wandering bartender. I'm sure it makes for a great wedding venue, but was an awkward tasting. read more

Bad food, bad service, appalling manners by managers. A GOOD restaurant would have taken the bad-tasting pizzetta that was served 20 minutes after the rest of our meal (to a child no less!) off of the ticket, a GREAT restaurant would have comped the dessert that same child ordered. This restaurant did neither. Instead they served us bread without bread plates (we had to eat our bread on the table cloth); a steak without a steak knife; tiny, bland chicken for $13 dollars; and an incorrectly cooked filet. On top of it all, they embarrassed my mother-in-law on Mothers Day when she asked about the cooking temperature of her meat, by re-displaying it to her twice by two different people, and mockingly trying to "clarify" what she wanted. It shouldn't have been a big deal. It had been ordered medium rare, it came out dry on the outside and barely pink on the inside. For both me and my husband, having worked in restaurants for many years in our past, concluded that was at least medium, if not close to medium-well, AND I feel guilty because I encouraged her to return it, thinking for the price, and because it was mothers day, she deserved a perfect meal. We would have been completely happy with their response if it had been dealt with quickly and professionally by replacing the steak politely. Not the case. We are normally very easy to please and LOVE fine dining. We don't mind to pay higher prices for great food, but there was no value in our well-over-$100-meal. The pinnacle of it all was when the filet was finally returned to the kitchen, the male manager balked so loudly that we could hear, further embarrassing my mother-in-law to the point where she spent the rest of the meal sadly wishing she hadn't said anything or come to this restaurant at all. We will NEVER be back. other strange things: a wet dog was walking around begging for food, we were sat in an auxiliary location, despite a reservation, that looked like a church banquet hall, and soft drinks were not free refills... Service was at a relaxed pace and we weren't in any hurry but we reminded the waitress to hold off bringing us our next course until we were done with the one we were having. I'm finding I need to alert our server to this as time goes on. Maybe a generational shift? I digress ... Seems removing the plate from the course you're on before bringing the next course is a thing of the past unless you specifically tell the server. Food was very good and the manager came out and asked how it was. Nice touch! Suggestion? If I'm going to be kept waiting for my table after my reservation time - bring me something on the appetizer menu - doesn't have to be an entire app - maybe a little bread - another drink etc., Overall, a nice place with great views. read more

Weingarten Vineyard was, I think, my final passport stop of the year. It was near the end of the day, and I didn't try anything. It's a large (not Crown Valley large, so perhaps medium) building on some beautiful land. Clean place, with a large gift shop with art by (local?) artists. This winery is THE best one we've been to, and we've been to them all. The ones in Herman, MO, the ones on Hwy 94, in St. Charles County, the others in Ste Genevieve County. At some wineries, we have experienced loud, obnoctious patrons. The music is too loud also. Those are not the kind of places we like to go to because we go to relax with friends and have some good food and wine in a relaxing setting. We feel that if you can't hold your liquor and act appropriately, you should stay home or go to the neighborhood bar, not a winery. Weingarten Vineyard is EXACTLY the type of atmosphere we desire for a Friday evening or Sunday afternoon outing. The owners, Connie & Randy Hamann, and their staff are the most warm and welcoming people we have ever met while visiting any of the wineries we've been to, and like I said, we've been to them all over a period of about 7 years. The building is still under construction and probably will be for some time because Randy Hamann, the owner, is also the builder. We see him out there working during the time we're there, and then the next thing we see him cleaned up and inside cooking or visiting with guests. His wife Connie, is either behind the bar, waiting on tables, or visiting with guests. They are so warm and friendly. Joan, Kelsey, Mary, Kyla, Kimberly,Chris,Emily, Vickie, Carla and Ken are some of the staff we've met. They are amazing as well. They are always smiling and accomadating. Ken is the chef, and he knows his job well. Carla and Randy help in the kitchen also. It is definitely a team effort at Weingarten Vineyard. We recently made a girls weekend trip to the Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, area for a tour of local vineyards. The Weingarten was by far our favorite. It sits on beautiful grounds and the staff there are some of the nicest people we've ever met. We also had dinner hear, which featured some of the best steak I've ever had in my life (so tender that you could cut it with a fork). And the owner even came out to speak with us. We had not previously made reservations but they had fit us in, although they were handling both a wedding and a prom at the same time. We also fell in love with the blackberry wine we were served. Even though they were setting up for a wedding that evening, they were still very attentive to us as a customer. I want to go back for their dinner menu sometime. There were maybe 4 tables filled and we were immediately told that they probably couldn't do much for us because they were so busy. We responded with "no problem! We are patient!" And "what if we got a few bottles and paid up front?" The bartender said that they couldn't really do that. We asked if she wanted us to leave and she said no, but then proceeded to ignore us... A lot of things are done right here. The building itself is beautiful, people are welcoming and provide good service, the shop was very nicely decorated, the view is awesome, pretty even for mid-March, and some of the food and craft beer was very good, too. So this winery has lots going for it already. The location is right on highway 32 about 10 miles west of I-55, so I wouldn't say it's remote, but there is no other reason to visit this small community unless you're going hiking at Hawn SP or Pickle Springs NA (that's why we stumbled across the place). It's a good 20 minutes from the next nearest winery, which is probably not the greatest thing for business. The sign is also easy to miss. They are still finding their way in the market after being open 10 months. They are also still working on both the facility and the landscaping. Per our discussion with one of the employees, they are still trying to decide "what they're going to do" with the place. It's a winery, brewpub, deli/restaurant and banquet facility now, with the future possibly (?) bringing guest rooms. They currently serve dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. We didn't try any of their wines. These days I have so little faith in the excellence of Missouri wines I just didn't feel like blowing five bucks to try theirs. To their immense credit, they do also have a few California wines that you can taste. I'm sure we'll be back to try some of these. We did try a flight of beers; Brown Ale, Irish Red Ale and Winter Ale. We weren't so crazy about the brown, but the other two were very good. We also tried the turkey panini and a small pepperoni pizza, which were both pretty expensive at $9. Craft beers are just $4 a pour, so that kind of makes up for it. The sandwich was quite good, but the pizza (from their "wood fired oven") was exactly like an Imo's lunch pizza. So what are we to make of a winery that uses Provel? I like Provel fine, but for some reason this gives me even less hope their wines will be good. They should seriously consider giving people a choice of cheese. Sodas are served in a can. I'm being kind of generous with 4 stars, I think, but it really is a beautiful building and I do recommend you stop by if you're in the area. We'll definitely be back to enjoy everything that's done right...and to try the wines, I guess. read more

This winery is our go to when visiting the St. Gen area. The views are stunning and the food is excellent. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and sat on the back patio. Dinner reservations are taken inside, so you can order from their deli menu for a more casual atmosphere outside. The deli menu is so much more than it sounds, we had the flatbread pizzas, sourdough bread loaves with spread (the garlic and artichoke are delicious) and pretzel bites with cheese. Everything was top notch. Their wine is great as well; they even carry other world wines besides your standard MO options. They also have a full bar, which is great for those who don't prefer wine. The service was great, even though they were busy with a wedding in the downstairs reception area. Of all the wineries in Ste. Genevieve, this one may have the most gorgeous facility. There is what almost looks like a well-kept antique shop upon entering, and once you get past there, you enter a large room with towering windows overlooking a gorgeous view of the St. Gen countryside. The lady had a wine sampling and I had a glass of beer, and we had a sausage and cheese plate as well as pretzels and beer cheese. It was a very relaxing experience; especially after the drive up from Memphis, TN. Everyone here was quite friendly and frankly, we wish we had come here for dinner to experience sunset at this gorgeous facility. I would strongly recommend this winery to anyone. read more

The staff is not the friendliest. When we walked in, the "host" was not welcoming at all! We were asked if we had a reservation and said no, and was told we needed one. The things I liked: * Outstanding, interesting construction that creates the feel of being in a winery that adults would like..... * Watching the winery develop - it opened softly earlier this year and has continued to develop into my favorite destination.... It appears that the winery will continue to develop and always offer new opportunities to experience. * The micro brews.. The wheat is my favorite but I like the amber and harvest brews recently * The wine. While my favorite wines are not made from Norton grapes, the Norton from this winery is quite good. (I like cabernets). * The food. The Deli area does offer several tasty choices, but the real star is their Fillet Mignon! This you can only get on select Saturday nights and it requires a Thursday reservation. I have lived in several states and had Fillet Mignon in many restraurants, but this has to be the best I have ever had. You use a butter knife to cut it..... * The People - every time we go, we meet friendly new people, and often see people we have not seen in awhile THE VIEW: Oustanding View that the architecture maximizes your ability to enjoy it. Now is the time to visit, and then return periodically to enjoy it as it develops. read more
