We learned that this winery is in transition. They have a great appetizer of mushrooms and a great selection of my most favorite California wines: Caymus, Conundrum, etc. Our hostess Connie was wonderful. Our appetizer of mushrooms were exquisite. A very nice surprise. I'm guessing the dinners are prepared just as meaningful too. Unfortunately we were unable to try the dinner but the atmosphere was great and a wonderful view of the property. We hope to stop by again and maybe spend the night in their upcoming set up for overnight guests. Wishing them much success.

The 2011 Norton and Norton rose were excellent wines! Staff is super nice. The house dressing was sweet and tangy. Dinner rolls served warm but a store bought white bread style. The tenderloin was ok. Flavors were there but a tad overcooked. The broccoli was cooked perfect and buttery. Sea bass was a bit skimpy on the portion size and needed some more salt but pretty good over all. Molten lava cake was pretty good. Rich dark chocolate. Maybe a tad dry.

Imagine if you will- an architect that wants to open a first class winery... The 20,000 square foot winery is open, but still under construction (pics). The open layout screams "I am an architect & this is my dream!" The three level winery is beautiful in design. The great room (pics) with expansive views, ceiling, fireplace & tasting bar put almost all places I have visited to shame. The outside patio & decks will be massive with great views of the growing vineyard & country side. (The patio will be open, weather permitting, for this 4th of July weekend) From the great room I saw the fire oven (pic).. The $8 "beef kabob with veggies" description on the menu was an two skewer understatement. This "beef" was so tender we had to ask about it- the cook/owner/architect said he bought the left over cuts from fillets to make the kabobs. The meat is marinated for 24 hours then fire grilled in the oven with (green, red & yellow) peppers, red onions plus mushrooms that is so good we ordered 2 more to take home. (The meat being cooked to about steakhouse Med-well, but very juicy & tender) The $8 veggie fire baked pizza had very fresh ingredients & great balance of flavors in the thin crust style. We were suggested the calzone... I said yes and it was great for a calzone. We both realized (IMO) cheese & meat combo did not show case the freshness & flavor in comparison to the kabob & veggie pizza. They have a 300 person dining hall in the lower level that is complete. The have two more meetings rooms at both ends of the main level that are available plus a gift shop. The upper level steakhouse & dining/meeting rooms are still under construction. The wine we had was "Princess Sweet" red wine that she likes... I am not the wine connoisseur. (Later I found out they serve a locally brewed beer) I was told they have been having weddings & receptions there since May (opening) Why only 4 stars... this is under construction... they are having a very soft opening by design... attitude was great, but they are still working out how the biz will be run (the husband & wife owner team seem to be great)... I will return in July and update- if things keep moving forward I can see 5 stars.

Wow! Spectacular setting and scenery. Just getting to the place feels like an adventure as the driveway is a long, hilly, winding gravel road which crosses an old wooden bridge set high above a railroad line. When you come out of the woods, you are welcomed by a massive stone and brick Bavarian-style lodge with stunning Missouri hillside vistas all around. The interior is just as impressive as the outside with the main room being a large atrium style design with beautiful wood finishes and a grand stone fireplace. As beautiful as the room is, it doesn't match the beautiful views afforded by the floor-to-ceiling windows along the south wall. Just beyond those windows there are two porches overlooking the vineyard and hills of Missouri that provide ample shaded outdoor seating. While the inside IS NOT kid friendly, the abundant seating space and the grassy yard separating the building from the vineyard allows more than enough space for the kiddos to run around and play games while not disturbing the other guests. They offer a variety of house wines from sweet/dry reds to sweet/dry whites. They also offer outside brands of wine as well. The house wines are good to very good. For non-oenophiles, they offer a wide variety of beers on tap; ranging from large national marcobrews to local seasonal microbrews. In a nutshell, come for the wine, but stay for the views!

Upon entering, you are given a magic bracelet that you can swipe on their "ipourit" wall. You just swipe and drink. It bills you based upon how much you pour. Aaron walked us through the process perfectly. Absolutely amazing. We then found a spot for our group outside around one of the firepits. It was the perfect day as far as weather is concerned. The sun was warm, but not too harsh. There was a feeling of freshness being out in the country. We had such a good time. OK food is on the way. Kendall did such a wonderful job with all of our orders and the food was phenomenal. This is probably the best food I've ever had at a winery. This is not a basic cheeseboard. This is coconut shrimp, fantastic pizza, & ahi tuna nachos.

Everything was beautiful, and we were very excited, but was taken back when the person to give us a tour arrived 20 minutes past our scheduled time, with a Scooter's Coffee in hand. The water given to us had two gnats in my fiancé's cup. When discussing prices, we were very disappointed when the website said $500 for a 4 hour rental, when in fact it was $5,200, which was very unclear and not stated on the website. Although the view is beautiful, the service is not ideal. I would not recommend this place.

A bit over an hour drive from…read morehome, I'd have definitely been more upset at making this drive had we not stopped a couple other places in Ste Genevieve that offered redemption for the experience we had here. The one positive I can mention, is the people are all super nice. Sadly, everything else falls short. The wine is terrible. Not just terrible, but I think that there is something actually wrong with most of them as most are unpleasantly sour and taste of vinegar. I think they must know this too, as these wines are priced 1/2 off for a bottle on their menu. They'd do well just to cut their losses, and dump them. The Grotta Rosa, and the Cave rock were the only two wines that were palatable, and they were just okay. The oddest part of the whole experience of the Cave Vineyard, is in fact the cave. All wine is sampled, and purchased at their tasting room....which is not in the cave. The cave is simply a place that you can sit and drink, and you must either walk to it (which is only maybe a 5-7 minute walk) or they offer to take you there via golf cart. So, you must either purchase all your bottles up front to take with you, or make trips back and forth. You must also head back to the tasting room, to use the bathroom. Definitely skip this one.
