Let's talk Lasik. Granted, it hasn't even been 48 hours since my surgery, so if my eyes fall out, I…read morepromise I'll update this review. I'm the type of person where if there's even a microscopic chance of disaster, I'm certain it'll happen to me. I prepped myself for this surgery by stumbling around my house blindfolded while asking "Could I live like this?" Even with that answer being a resounding "NO," I decided to finally take the plunge before my 40th birthday. In sum, so far it's one of the best decisions I've ever made, and I strongly regret not doing it a decade ago. The experience at Clear Advantage is streamlined and professional. You quickly feel like you are in great hands and that nothing can go wrong. From the front desk, to the initial assessments with the techs, everyone is extraordinarily friendly while also emanating an air of "chill out dude, we do this all the time." And really, that's all I needed to accept the frightening proposition of lasers slicing my eyes open. The surgery itself is quick and painless. Doctor Peters calmly explains the process, you're in the chair for maybe 10 minutes, and the laser is more fascinating than terrifying. I entered the operation legally blind. Immediately afterwards my vision was still blurry, but much clearer than before. After a 2 hour, Valium-induced nap, I awoke to 20/15 vision. I only had 20/20 with contact lenses. It was a revelation. You must avoid all tv/phone screens during the first day and are on a strict prescription and lubricated eyedrops routine for the next month. It's a nuisance, but easily worth it. I live nearly an hour from Clear Advantage and chose them after a recommendation from my local eye doctor. I strongly feel like they must be the best in the region. Doctor Peters and the entire staff make the process clear, casual and pain-free. It's been nearly 30 years since I've had vision like this without contacts/glasses. Don't make my mistake and rule out this operation from fear.

LASIK. I am writing this review less than 24 hours after my procedure and have already driven to a…read morefollow up appointment sans pain and with 20/15 vision. This is all truly surreal. I was so impressed with the kindness and thoroughness of the process and staff. I initially wanted to get both eyes done but after reviewing one of my eyes they denied it due to some scarring from a previous ulcer. They noted that their practice is conservative with the patients they take and let's be honest, that is EXACTLY what you want when you're going to have a procedure affecting your eyesight. In terms of the procedure I definitely had some nerves but they truly put me at ease with explaining how quick and foolproof the technology is, if your eyes move, the laser moves. How cool? If anyone is on the fence about getting this procedure, I cannot stress enough how incredible Dr. Peters is as well as the whole staff at Clear Advantage. The 1-2 hours of discomfort after the numbing meds wore off is nothing compared to the feeling of waking up being able to see unassisted and without pain. I live a hour away and I am so happy I made the trek to Portsmouth to get this done. 10/10, do it.

It is a privilege to write about Dr. Sang and her team. Not only is Dr. Sang an elite and amazing…read moredoctor, but she shows compassion and really cares. Sometimes, that makes you feel better and is more needed than the treatments! At a time when I feared losing my vision due to macular degeneration, she was reassuring and supportive , and always answers my never ending list of questions, and with patience. Another side of Dr. Sang that I recently learned about is her mentorship. There are a group of young college grads working there who are taking a gap year and preparing to get into medical school. She is so giving and proud of how many of these interns have gone on to great careers. Each time you go for an appointment, it's a "major production." There are so many steps in the process and I have come to understand why it takes so long -- they take no shortcuts! There is a huge staff that supports Dr. Sang and each one has a specialty, from the people who answer the phone and make appts. to the people who do complicated eye scans. I don't envy the appt. people as everyone seems to want a different time -- including me -- and it's hard to make everyone happy, although they try. I guess my only complaint is that I wish I could turn back Dr. Sang's clock about 25 years so that she'd be in practice for another 25+ years. While she is around, I feel incredibly lucky for her to be my doctor!

I have been seeing Dr. Delia Sang for twenty-five years for retinal problems. Dr. Sang has taken…read moreexcellent care of me over those years. However, there are some negatives. Phone communication with the administrative staff, especially Monica, is difficult and frustrating. My advice is to communicate all medical questions (other than simple appointment needs) in writing via the Mass General Brigham Patient Gateway. Dr Sang employs students to operate all of the various tests done prior to her seeing patients. She does this to mentor them and further their education. This is laudable, but the downside is that the staff are not professional full-time employees, and are constantly turning over. One plus, while you are waiting for your eyes to dilate, is a Tatte Bakery and Cafe, a few blocks (and one T stop) away at 1003 Beacon St., where the food is excellent. She used to have an office in Burlington, MA, open on Wednesdays. It was very convenient for me, coming from the Lakes region of NH. I am leaving her practice for a retinal specialist in Londonderry, NH. Once she knew I was leaving the practice, she refused to answer my queries about a medication she had prescribed for me, so what had been a great relationship ended on a sour note.
