This place is outstanding! I'm a stick fighter whose been training in the filipino martial arts for the last ten years on the west coast. I sought out the Ct Academy after learning about their Filipino Martial Arts Academy association and was told that CAMA was the place to go on the east coast. I think the two instructors are outstanding and really well-priced for the amount of instruction I've received so far. The program is well-rounded, worthwhile, and seems to be tailorable to all skill levels and body types. I'm a stick girl at heart and gear my training towards that, but these guys are multi-cultural and are inspiring me to consider integrating some other stuff. They're doing kickboxing, grappling, yoga, submission fighting, traditional martial arts (with and without weapons) - so we'll see what I try next :) read more

Established in 2016.

Weissmuller Academy opened in this region to offer yoga, martial arts, and coaching services to select military and corporate clients. It has expanded to provide yoga, traditional, and mixed martial arts training to people of all ages and abilities throughout the region. Thomas Weissmuller is certified as a US Coach, and oversees training programs in mixed martial arts, sport ju-jutsu, swimming, yoga, and various competitive and traditional arts. Train with the highest ranking instructors in the region in Filipino, Japanese, and Okinawan martial arts; enjoy elite Dryland Training for US Swimming; train in ashtanga, hatha, and power yoga classes. Meet the Business Owner: Thomas W.

Thomas W. is a retired trial judge and attorney who began training in the martial arts and swimming at age 12. Tom enjoyed his first yoga class during judo training in 1979 but began formal yoga training in his twenties after watching Rickson Gracie lead a blended yoga and fitness class. Shortly after earning his 8th degree black belt, Tom was appointed to the Belting Standards Committee and asked to head Mixed Martial Arts Curriculum Development. "My goal is to make the martial arts easier to understand and apply, while simultaneously improving the overall fitness level for every martial artist in the program. This has resulted in the development and implementation of many fight conditioning drills and a blending of yoga, martial arts, and fitness training. We have something special here." Tom has two daughters, Tristan and Alexis, both of whom train in the martial arts, yoga, music, art, and fitness.

I'm partial to their 6am hour of power class during the week. I actually wish Deb taught at 6am every morning but I'm being greedy. They have classes most mornings & noon then again around dinner time. Definitely check their website for a complete list but it's easy to find a class to fit into your schedule. Not all instructors here are the same but they're all great. Every one brings their own personality to class & some can be more challenging than others. So you think $140 a month isn't cheap for yoga? Well yoga is expensive but HSY is definitely most competitive when it comes to price options. A "drop in" for most studios is at least $15 & some don't let you purchase packages. HSY does offer a trial membership so you know what you're getting into before plunking down too much cash. Yoga is an investment & if you're serious you'll definitely get your money's worth. And not every studio I've practiced at has offered locker rooms and/or showers. It's great to take a shower & change into clean clothes after 90 minutes of breathing & stretching.

Members wipe down the apparatus after use which I appreciate. If you choose to workout in the mornings, Michelle will greet you with a cheerful hello as she keeps the areas clean. Rhode Island has 5 giant trolls in various parks, and Ninigret has 2 of them: Greta Granite & Erik Rock. We stayed to the main paths as there are a lot of ticks around. And we saw a couple of fat turkeys who are probably feasting on the ticks. There are tennis courts, picnic area, a playground, observatory & senior center on the grounds. And plenty of parking.
