A family owned sushi restaurant in a small town that I would have easily driven by any day if my boyfriend had not been a regular at this restaurant and recommended it to me. Even when we pulled up in the parking lot, which is shared by the other stores in the area, I could not point out the entrance of the restaurant or even see where it was. They definitely need to do a better job making themselves more noticeable, the storefront is just way too high up! Or maybe I'm too short.. but it is definitely a little(or a lot) higher than it should be. Fortunately, that ends my complaints about this place.. and of course, the above is a very trivial matter. I haven't had a chance to dine in the restaurant, so I will definitely update my review once I get the chance but I came here with my boyfriend because he told me there was a lunch/dinner special where you could choose any three rolls (from the large options they have available) for a price of $17, it comes with a side of miso soup and salad as well. This is an amazing deal, any one roll in the city would easily cost me $8-$12! We called for pick up around 30 minutes before they closed and got there in 20 minutes and it was ready right away. When I got home to open up the take-out, I was pleasantly surprised to see they had generously included 4 extra pieces of fried California rolls (this is not one of the rolls we had chose, this is just a freebie). Now, these pieces of sushi are HUGE... I mean they are actually on steroids because I have NEVER seen such generous sizes for such a good price. We chose the salmon roll, the spicy crab which is drizzled in delicious spicy mayo, and the eel avocado. They are packaged together along with wasabi and ginger. They give you take out soy sauce packets as well as little trays that you can mix the soy sauce and wasabi in. The spicy crab was delicious, probably one of the better ones I've had. I would definitely say that this place is fresh. The filling is so generous that I notice the seaweed does not wrap entirely around the roll. This is okay to me, although I've seen complaints about it in other reviews. The sushi did not fall apart while I dipped it in soy sauce or while putting it in my mouth. Of course, the pieces were still small enough that I could fit an entire piece in my mouth at once. They have definitely made a regular out of me! read more

When I'm home in Bergen County this is definitely mine and mom's go-to sushi place. The rolls are really big and very filling; you definitely get more than your money's worth. The fish is always very fresh and very tasty. Sometimes it gets really busy around dinner time but that's not necessarily something that the owners can control. However, because it gets busy, there are a lot of tables and it's a bit cramped. Sometimes you can see the staff struggling to get around. Other than that, though, this place is pretty great! read more

Oh my lord this place was amazing. Went in past weekend with SO and had the best service ever. Staff was super friendly, kept our drinks full and was attentive. The food was great, tasted a lot fresher than the places around the area and NY area. Very delicious sushi but also piece of mind with their curbside pickup. They are taking this very seriously and have sanitizer or gloves ready if you need them. Only speaking from the take-out aspect (I haven't dined in here). I've never had an issue with my order. I order my food and in 20-30 mins it's ready for me, correct and waiting for me when I get there. The rolls are fresh (idk who is saying they aren't fresh, that's just ridiculous) and yes, they're massive (which is awesome) and also, most importantly, they're delicious. The prices are reasonable. This isn't a SoHo sushi place at $20/roll. It's a little go-to local sushi spot that's always packed with people. No other local sushi restaurant even comes close. read more

I've never had such a terrible experience with a waitress or owner. I'd like to start off by saying that I came here periodically for the sushi, not for the service or staff. First off, my order is regularly incorrect. There have been many times I ordered spicy salmon rolls but was given plain salmon rolls, or my sister ordered eel rolls but was given eel avocado rolls. When I tell the waitress that my order is wrong, sometimes she'll correct it and other times she'll try to tell me that my order is actually correct-that I actually ordered plain salmon rolls. Additionally, the waitress is so slow in bringing the check to my table (I've waited as long as 30 minutes), that I've resorted to walking up to the cash register and asking for the check. (I'd like to make a side note that although this main waitress' service is terrible and slow, during dinner time the restaurant sometimes has additional waitstaff. These waiters and waitresses provide much better service). But what really bothered me with the service is the lies I've had to deal with multiple times. On their menu, it clearly states that dinner specials come with soup and salad (I've attached a screenshot of their menu for reference). There have been several occasions when I order the dinner menu, and am told that I can only choose 1 soup or 1 salad. When I show the waitress that the menu clearly states that dinner specials come with soup and salad, she would sheepishly say "oh okay" and then give me my soup and salad. However, recently, I ordered my usual dinner special. The owner told me I can only choose between 1 soup or 1 salad. I show him that the menu states I should get both. He responds by telling me that even though the menu says so, he is the owner of the restaurant and he cannot give me both soup and salad. He also tells me that the only reason I was given soup and salad in the past is because they were "being nice" by giving me the additional soup. I showed him the menu again. He gave me the same response. Our conversation went in circles for about 10 minutes. No matter how many times I showed him what his menu clearly states, he claimed that he's the owner and decides what comes with the dinner specials, and that I was given soup in the past out of kindness, not out of what the menu says. With the terrible service and ignorant owner who refused to give me what I paid for, this restaurant is no longer worth visiting. This isn't the only place with good sushi around the area. I can easily find good sushi elsewhere - somewhere that will also provide proper service and abide by their menu. read more

It comes with a heavy heart that I have to encourage all of you not to visit this restaurant. As you can see, I loved this restaurant ever since it opened 7 years ago. I literally grew up eating here, but all good things must come to an end. You may think that it's dramatic I had to downgrade my rating so much, but I believe it's warranted for three reasons: terrible customer service, much less generous portions and a dated decor. Terrible Customer Service Service has never been exemplary at this local restaurant. But over the past few years, Joy (co-owner) simply doesn't care. You asked for water with lemon? I'll bring you water filled with 80% ice and no lemon and you'll never get a refill. You asked for a check? Wait patiently at your table for 20 minutes. On top of that, a friend of mine who worked as a waitress there told me all the gratuity goes directly to the owners; those teenage waitresses receive $0 for their service to you. It's gotten so lackadaisical and terrible that I resorted to ordering take-out the past year. And the service for take out is no better either. At separate times, they forget to give me chopsticks, soup and rice. Less Generous Portions Over the past few trips, portion sizes have definitely decreased. Order the Hwe Dub Bap and you clearly notice that there this a lot less sashimi and a lot more lettuce. Order the spicy salmon roll and you can see there's less salmon now. I've also noticed that the restaurant no longer gives you complimentary fruit. Dated Decor The decor has not changed in this restaurant since it first opened. And its age clearly shows in the table and chairs you're sitting in, the dirty plastic cups you're drinking, and the chipped plates you're eating off of. Most Recent Experience But what set me off to write this review is my most recent experience. I ordered take-out for a Hwe Dub Bap and a Spicy Salmon Roll. I came, waited a few minutes, and was told by the waitresses working there that i would get soup and salad for my Hwe Dub Bap. The owner comes around after a few minutes, speaks to the girls in Korean and then tells me that Hwe Dub Bap does not come with salad because "there's too much salad in the Hwe Dub Bap already". First off, the menu specifically says that dinner specials (which the Hwe Dub Bap was listed under) includes both soup and salad. And secondly, who are you to tell me how much salad is considered too much salad? I point out that the menu clearly states I'm entitled to a salad. I tell him I've been a customer for years. I tell him I've never had trouble with this in the past. He tells me he's the owner, and that even though it says it on the menu, it doesn't, and has never, come with salad. A blatant lie. Great. At that point, my girlfriend is fed up with this nonsense and asks for a refund. I tell him it was a shame this had to happen and we would never be dining at the restaurant again. He tells us we're bothering him by saying that. Long story short, Well-Being Sushi has been on the decline for the past few years. Their terrible service, smaller portions, and dated decor, combined with an arrogant owner, lost an extremely dedicated customer. read more

The free fried California roll and lovely service make this a solid 4 star restaurant. Well-Being is a place without much flare, but it's comfortable and clean. The servers were really nice and the sushi was slightly above average for the area. We also tried gyoza, miso soup and a salad. Gyoza and soup were really good, although the salad dressing (as many others have noted, peanut-based) was not my cup of tea. The bf couldn't get enough of the dressing, so it was clearly just not my taste. Good prices and parking. We'll happily be back! read more

If you want to talk about a good sushi place that is happy to have you as its customer, I would say that this place is worth being part of the conversation. Nice and friendly Korean family seems to own this place. I've been here a few times now and they never seem to disappoint. Nice thick slices for your tuna rolls, and they also give a free roll even when you do take out! The quality of fish is great, not necessarily the best (but hey you're not paying an arm and leg for it as you would with Yasuda in NYC), but it's very very very good. Restaurants like these are few and far apart. I just wish there was one near my house that is as happy and wonderful to be in. Been to 12 of the top-rated sushi spots in Northern Bergen Co and, unfortunately, this was the worst across all categories: FOOD: freshness and preparation, severely lacking... rolls not fresh, all three special rolls were buried in some thick sauce that was not detailed in the menu and half were too huge to eat easily. SERVICE: waited for a good 6 minutes for a table while staff was not busy and ignored us as they passed; later they handed us a dirty corkscrew instead of opening it for us -- never experienced this in a BYOB establishment. AMBIANCE: overall cleanliness and decor not up to snuff. Sushi bar window was crammed with fresh in Saran wrap so you couldn't even see the chefs making rolls if you wanted to. We've stopped going to any other sushi place and are now only going to Well Being. Wide selection of items including several unique rolls you won't find at other spots and everything is always top-notch in the way of quality. Big fan of the dumplings and salad with sesame dressing. Kids love the chicken teriyaki and bulgogi bento boxes. Only reason it doesn't get a 5-star rating is because the wait staff can be hit or miss. Often it's a couple of young teens - very friendly and respectful, but they aren't experienced waiters so you find yourself having to ask for things very often like a water refill or a fork for the kids. read more

My fiancé and I came here because the usual sushi place we go to was packed. I went on yelp and we decided to check this place out since it was the closest. I was iffy about this place because it's really not in the best location as it's right off a main road, next to a Walgreens and a very ghetto Chinese food place. This place is EXTREMELY small. Small to the point where you walk in and see the end of the restaurant the minute you walk in. The set up of tables is very tight but it felt cozy. The sushi bar takes up almost half the restaurant, which is probably why a lot of people ordered for take out rather than eat in. I had a volcano roll and a spicy shrimp roll and absolutely loved it. The presentation was great and the sushi was even better!! As I said, I was iffy about the restaurant but I was definitely not disappointed with the food service! Those who prefer the hot entrees, my fiancé ordered a chicken bento box. The bento box was huge but it was definitely well worth the price! The bento box comes with a complimentary California tempura roll which wasn't the greatest, but others might enjoy deep fried sushi. The one different thing I liked most was the salad dressing they use, As many of their meals come with a salad and miso soup. Rather than the typical ginger dressing many places use, they use a peanut butter flavored dressing which was awesome (obviously not for those who is allergic to peanuts). My fiancé didn't like it at first but are the whole thing anyways. Although they drenched the salad with dressing, it was absolutely delicious. The service was great and the food came out fairly quickly. This is my second favorite sushi place in Bergen County. They have a great selection of special rolls beyond their classic roll offerings. The sushi is high quality and made with care. Rolls are generous size and always tastes fresh. When you order meals to go. Ask for as many soups an salads as people you have in your dinner party. They come complimentary with your meal ! Plus you will also get a free roll, the fried California roll. This is a great addition to the well-being sushi experience and something I appreciate as a repeating customer. My fiance and I love this place! We had been looking for a decent sushi place for a very long time and we finally came to this place- it was like a match made in heaven. We've never eaten at the place, we always take out, so I don't know how it is like service wise that way, but service wise from a take out stand point they're always very nice and courteous. Every roll I've had is delicious there. I especially love the Firefighter roll. I had their Bento box once and wasn't a fan of it. Everything always seems fresh and they definitely are extremely generous on the size of the rolls they make. Let me start off by saying I am in no way a sushi "expert". We occasionally get in the mood for sushi and this place fits the bill. Well Being is very close to home and after driving by this place practically every day my wife and I finally have it a try. We've been back twice in the past two weeks. The dining room is a little on the small side, which may explain the noticeably large takeout business they do. And I will admit, for those that can be a little impatient or in a rush, the service can be a little amateurish. I chalk this up to the fact that it is a small family run business. Personally, we had no issue with it. The sushi itself was very fresh, tasty, and plentiful. I have to chuckle at those who describe their specialty rolls as "too big". IMHO too much of a good thing is a good thing, they are large. The Bento box, which my wife enjoyed, is a great way to sample what they have to offer and the Dragon roll with a Dumpling soup is my favorite so far. The dinner special is also a great way to go. I like well being sushi. I have eaten here many times and the rolls are very good. The rolls come with miso soup and salad which are both good as well. The rolls I liked: Spicy salmon roll Spicy tuna roll Dynamite Roll Firefighter Roll Crunch roll - excellent and the sauce is great too The rolls I did not like: Boston roll California roll The two rolls I did not like were not terrible, they were just a little boring compared to everything else so I would not get them again. Well-Being Sushi sits in the outer corner of a janky strip mall in Dumont, right before "the circle." Its sign isn't fancy, but the name immediately grabs your attention: WHAT IS WELL-BEING SUSHI?! Should I try this place? So today, after months and months of asking this (/not having time), I finally did. (My friend and) I ordered 2 lunch specials of "any 2 kinds of rolls." I ordered a shrimp avocado roll and a spicy salmon roll. (My friend ordered a tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll, as well.) I was starving but I suspected that I'd also be receiving a complimentary fried California roll, like a handful of other patrons, so I decided against ordering a third roll. I was correct. The comp Cali roll wasn't bad. I didn't hate it, but I wasn't a huge fan simply because I don't really enjoy fried food that isn't typically fried. My friend liked it, though, and obviously I was grateful for a free sample, lol. My shrimp avocado roll was pretty standard and good. My spicy salmon roll, however, was a chunky salmon (lots of small pieces of salmon--almost shredded) roll masked as a spicy salmon roll, with a good slathering of spicy mayo sauce, which was more mayo-y than spicy. This was the first time I've ever eaten such a creamy spicy salmon roll, in which the sauce is completely separate from the fish. At other Korean joints, the salmon is usually marinated in spicy pepper paste and then rolled into the seaweed/rice, but not here. I can't say I was a huge fan of this, although the two rolls balanced each other out. The sauce could've (should've) been way better with less mayo and more kick. Each lunch special came with a simple salad (of iceberg lettuce, shredded cabbage, and shredded carrots), with sesame dressing on the side. The dressing was reminiscent of Korean songpyeon rice cake filling, only thicker (like peanut butter). (I didn't mind it, although I couldn't finish it, but my friend disliked it a lot.) The other option was miso soup, which neither my friend nor I got. The lady at the counter was a bit fickle emotionally. Initially she was friendly and asked if we were heading back to school yet but soon she got antsy and slightly pushy. (She wasn't mean but she did hover and rush us while we signed our receipt.) There wasn't even a line, but I suppose she did give us decent take-out service. Overall, 3 stars. I may be back for the lunch special sometime but NOT for the spicy salmon roll..unless they change the recipe of that sauce. edit: Oh yeah, the ginger was also drizzled in spicy mayo sauce. Quality sushi at moderate prices. Basic sushi like Spicy Tuna roll is delicious. This is the second time we ordered the crunch roll which has roe, panko and green onion topping.....YUMMY! It was wayyyyyy to much food for the two of us (we didn't know because it was our first time there). Everything was great. This place was great! I probably sound generous as I've been posting a lot of 3s and 4s lately but it was great pricing, attentive waitress and generous food. I had 3 rolls, a spicy tuna, salmon and valentine - all the rolls were well stuffed and tasted very fresh. I've been to a few places where the rolls are huge but the fish tastes like mop water... can't fix that with all the soy in the world lol. Big parking lot always a plus. It would be nice if there were booze or BYOB options but former yelp reviews did not mention the option so I errored on the side of a booze free dinner. The end. read more
