We have had the privilege of Dr. Hartman caring for three of our dogs over the past decade plus. I cannot say enough about Dr. Hartman, Dr. Tast, Dr. Hedges, and the entire team at Wellesley Animal Hospital. How they can remember the special medical needs and unique personalities of each and every pet they care for is mind boggling!! The technicians and receptionists are all extremely knowledgeable, friendly and caring. Even during the pandemic, when they were extremely vulnerable to illness and often short staffed, they never let it sacrifice the level of excellence they provide in caring for all animals. The practice appreciates that - our animals are members of our family, and treat them as such. When our dog, Piper, was battling late stage heart disease they were masters in getting her medication just right, providing her with the highest quality of life until the very end. They exhausted every option, were patient when we had questions/emergencies with medication and always had time to talk us through anything that came up. The front desk was kind enough to make multiple calls and follow-up on our behalf to help find an emergency ultrasound appointment, once again exceeding our expectations. Piper lived (comfortably) well beyond what was expected for a dog diagnosed with late stage Heart Disease. When it was her time, and she was no longer comfortable, Dr. Hartman was there to talk us through the difficult decision we had to make. She showed extreme compassion and empathy towards our family and Piper also advising us on how to handle and support our other dog, who was losing her best friend. We knew that she cared just as much as we did about Piper. She made comments about her strength and her sweet personality. As a result, we were able to say goodbye in a way that felt right for us. Dr. Hartman, Dr. Task and staff took time (after hours) to allow for the process to be private. They were so kind and thoughtful towards my entire family including our other dog. We all grieved together. It was the best possible process for an awful, but inevitable event. We are so grateful we were able to give Piper the respect and peace she deserved. They sent us a condolence note and made a donation to an Animal foundation in memory her name. In short - they are a group of exceptionally talented, generous and dedicated humans who go above and beyond. You should consider yourself fortunate if you are able to be a part of this practice. read more

beaut, healthy 8 year old golden started losing one leg when tired. Vet said after taking x-rays " full of arthritis, keep her moving" one week later she lost both legs and was struggling to walk. Vet took more X-rays and said "torn ligaments, she is circling the bowl" I kid you not. Looking for a new vet read more

I've been working with the vets at Wellesley Animal Hospital for about five years. Up until mid-2018, I was very pleased with the quality of their service. Since then, the problem has been addressed, and Dr. Hedges joined their practice. She is truly a gift. Warm, caring and very professional. Wellesley Animal Hospital, Liz Hartman DVM is the best of the best. I have been bringing my Irish Water Spaniel dog to them for the past 11 years and they never dissapoint. Staff is great and Liz is one of the finest Vets I have ever gone to. They have been on the top of their game during this very difficult time of pandemic. Wellesley Animal Hospital really cares about my rabbit. Even though I'm moving to the North Shore soon, I will be making the drive to Wellesley for any veterinary needs. Dr. Hartman is extremely knowledgable about rabbits and I completely trust my little guy in her care. They took in my bunny overnight when he was sick and even played with him and gave him belly massages to soothe his digestive pain. Not only that, they are affordable. Dr Hartman is amazing! She truly loves animals. We have taken all our dogs to her starting with their first puppy checks. If your pet is sick they do their best to get you in the same day. Honest about what tests/procedures/scans need to be done and how soon. Seems like she really tries to make sure they are necessary first. All her staff are very helpful as well. Firstly, I'm writing this review for my wife, who has taken our 2 dogs to Wellesley Animal Hospital for several years now. She came home after taking them for ordinary check-ups last week and proceeded to ream me out about how this place is run and how they treat their employees. The exact words were "I could hear her (the boss) screaming at the employees in the back room as if I was not even there. She wasn't even screaming at them for anything important." So, there is clearly a management problem...and I think the doctors have pissed off the wrong people. If they have any respect and dignity for their employees, themselves, and especially their clients, they need to make a dramatic change quick. I couldn't believe what my wife was telling me so the following day I decided to take a trip down the the vet. I walked in and asked to speak to one of the doctors and was told by the lovely receptionist that she is booked pretty solid for several hours and that she would have her call me as soon as possible. While walking out I happened to glance into a back room and see one of the employees working diligently as expected. I've worked with her before and she has been wonderful - I forget her name but she was a transfer from Angell Animal Hospital in Boston. I also noticed someone I had never seen there before who who was up front just sitting there on her cell phone in scrubs. I have no idea who this was and she looked way too young/immature to be working as a vet. Probably another intern - I know the doctors sometimes have them in-office. 3 days go by and I still have not heard from the doctor so I decide to call and follow-up. believe it or not, the same lovely person I spoke to in person answers the phone and remembers me from 3 days prior. She apologizes but says there still isn't a doctor available to talk because they have left for the day already. It was right at 5 pm, so I guess that's fair. I've since given up on trying to reach a doctor there and clear up the management issue and find out why they treat their employees like that. If they are trying to run a successful business, their employees satisfaction comes first. After all, if the employees are happy they will go above and beyond to make their clients happy. That's one thing I've learned over they years of owning my own businesses. I will now take my business elsewhere. Likely headed to a Newton Animal Hospital or Framingham Animal Hospital and I will go out of my way to make sure our friends and family do not spend their time or money at this location since they clearly don't appreciate the people working there under the room with respect. read more

This place is horrible. The front desk staff is very rude and not professional. They are always chatting between each other and I feel like I am interrupting them every time I come in. Which will be no longer! The place is dirty and falling apart. The one doctor we saw made some negative remarks about my dogs and thought she was being funny. Not so. Price is good, but that's it. I have been taking my cats and dog to Wellesley Animal Hospital for 14 years and cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hartman, Dr. Tast, Dr. Jeffers, and the entire staff. Not only are they extremely competent and knowledgeable, but they are also caring and compassionate. Wellesley Animal Hospital is wonderful! I drive my rabbits all the way from downtown Boston because I completely trust them there. They take such good care of them and are always willing to talk to us if we are worried about something. In addition, we board our rabbits there when we go on vacation and everyone there is so sweet! They know our rabbits by name and love having them come in. I completely trust that they are well cared for when they are there (much more so than when we have had people come feed them once or twice during the day) because they are held, played with, and fed regularly throughout the day. Unless I move out of the Boston area, I won't bring pets anywhere else, even with the long drive. read more

After going to Angell here in JP where I live for years with my other dog, I got a new dog that was already established here. I've been going to them now with her for almost four years and I really love it here. First of all, the personable attention you get upon walking in the door is second to none. And they don't charge you an arm and a leg for services. For routine stuff, this is the place to go. I do still think of Angell as my go to for more serious matters, as they have specialists and seem to be more thorough in general. But I will keep my dog at Wellesley in the meantime. They really are as good as it gets. I wasn't happy with the vet I was using in Needham and switched when I was at this location with a friend. They are thoughtful, careful, respectful and incredibly kind. Because my last vet didn't just drop the ball, but dropped it and then kicked it, I had to put my dog to sleep today. The people in the office here took the time to explain everything and they didn't rush me into anything. they helped me understand what was going on with my dog. I miss him more than words can say but the only thing that made it bearable was the level of compassion and professionalism I received here. It's hard to find vets who work on Guinea pigs so when my usual vet was out and my piggy wasn't eating, I was both nervous and happy to have found this vet. Great, relatively inexpensive care that was efficient but also compassionate. Saved my pig who is happily munching her food tonight after surgery. read more

I have used Wellesley Animal Hospital ever since I came to Newton 16 years ago, first with one dog and now with another. They were recommended by several people at a doggie play group and I have not been disappointed. When my first dog grew old and had to be released they were so supportive and patient (I canceled the appointment 3 times) and they helped with arrangements afterwards. I have recommended them to others and I have had only enthusiastic and positive feedback.
