TLDR: If you have an eye emergency avoid this clinic but you may be fine if it is not an emergency. Nice, cordial doctor and workers but very disorganized. They have 2 offices on the same floor in the same building (both with signs that say "Wellish Abrams") and after checking in at the front desk we sat for an half hour but ten minutes past our appointment time someone called over from the other office and said I was in the wrong place and they had been searching all over for me assuming maybe I was stuck in the bathroom. It was quite a long time and lextensive process before we saw Dr Shah for about 3-5 minutes and he said I have a Vitreous Hemorrhage, it is very serious, and I need to see someone right away. I was referred to a retina specialist that was closed so I was told to call Desert Retina first thing the next day. The Wellish Abrams workers never faxed the referral with notes to Desert Retina so the operator at Desert Retina asked me to call Wellish Abrams and request they send the referral and notes. Wellish Abrams does not answer their phones, they employ an answering service which says they will try to get the request to Wellish Abrams within 24 hours. After 24 hours you must trust that the people who did not send the referral the first time will do it the next day. I do not understand why the process has to be such a circus, if you have an eye emergency why can't you go to one place and get all your medical needs accomplished? Southern Hills sent me to Wellish, which took 2 days, Wellish sent me to Desert Retina and didn't forward the referral and notes and meanwhile my eyeball is hemorrhaging. 3 doctors along the way stressed to me that my situation is an emergency and could result in blindness if not handled expeditiously. read more

I've been going to Wellish for the past 10 years. I always paid at time of visit and never owed a dime. So when I received a large bill this past March, I just figured it was a mistake -- mistakes happen, no biggie. So I called the Billing Dept to get it corrected. It's been four and a half months, now. I've called at least 8x since March, during business hours, but the Billing Dept NEVER picks up the phone; it just rings and rings until the phone eventually disconnects itself. No option to leave a message either, it just hangs up. So after each failed attempt to reach Billing, I call the front desk/scheduling desk. 8+ times I explained how I'm receiving erroneous bills, that Billing has never ever picked-up anytime I've ever called, and that the billing must be corrected (didn't want bill erroneously going to collections and ruining my near-perfect credit score). Each time, I was told they would message the Billing Dept to explain my concern and somebody would call me back; last week they said they would notify the Billing Manager and the BM would call me back. To date ... still no call back. This place used to be so great, now they can't even handle entry-level customer service or billing. If you read the reviews, others note the same frustrations. Going to Wellish-Abram's Eye Institute is a total waste of time and energy. 5 weeks ago I personally gave Dr Abrams paperwork to have a waver submitted to my prescription insurance to order the genetic of Restasis Eye Drops. After 5 weeks, and no response, I called the office and they had no idea where the paperwork was. I told them to look for it since I handed it to them personally!! The next day, I received a call that they found it on a desk. In the office (it sat there for 5 weeks!) The office then told me that it was just faxed in. Several hours later my insurance company notified me that the doctor put in a prescription for RESTASIS not the generic which the paperwork was for. I called up Wellish and I was told they would submit the generic request. Today I received a text from wellish stating they resubmitted the request....FOR RESTASIS!! Exactly the complete opposite of what was needed. This is such a poorly run organization filled with people who cannot comprehend any requests regarding timeliness and accuracy. I ve going here for a few years now to see Dr. Kostanyan. My issues have been Glaucoma, Dry Eye, Near Sighted and then Cataracts. We started with the eye drops and then went to surgery. This was a regular appointment for me; scheduled at the last visit. I have received confirmation appointments daily for this morning's appointment, up until this morning. The person you have doing your scheduling is rude, abrupt and mumbles. I had to ask her to repeat what she was saying several times and I have perfect hearing. I tried to schedule an appnt with your Henderson location and you are booked out 3 weeks. I was not advised the appnt would take 3 hours until the end of the conversation. Given this poor customer experience before I ever stepped my foot in the door - I will be seeking out an appnt with one of your competitors that actually values new business. read more

My husband went here for Lasik consultation and was told that he needed both cataract surgery and Lasik for vision correction at a total cost of $10,000 which included his insurance! It was easy to make an appointment and to get in very quickly, however the customer service was terrible. He arrived on time and had already filled out forms however during the consultation he was asked the exact same questions over again and prior to his appointment they called him and asked him the exact same questions over again, somebody is not reading forms that the patient completes! The wait time inside the office is terribly long as you're moved from one room to another, got a second opinion from another reputable office and found that the cataracts were not that severe and the cost would be half the price for both Cataract and lasik, so disappointing in Wellish trying to rip him off. read more

I am getting cataract surgery. Once I decided to get them done, everything has been at warp speed. Dr Kostanyan has discussed everything with me and treats me like a partner in my eye health. The office staff has been patient and calm. Wellish is even paying for an Uber to take me to and from the surgery location. Dr K is going to also, while he's in there, put a shunt in to reduce my glaucoma. Surgery is always a little scary (and I've my share of surgeries), but everyone has been soothing. read more

I just had cataract surgery with Dr. Kostanyan @ Wellish Vision Institute in Henderson and wanted to commend his expertise to anyone considering the procedure. I had actually started the pre-op process with another provider but decided to look elsewhere as things just didn't seem right. It turned out that my "gut feeling" was justified as the process at Wellish, along with the professional manner of Dr. Kostanyan, was far different from the first provider. The Wellish Vision Institue provided the utmost customer satisfaction and services to my husband who has been fighting with contact and prescription glasses for a very long time. The Staff has been very accommodating of the schedule and availability to my husband. The prices are acceptable and reasonable compared to Laser & Eye Surgery centers in California. This location does not perform the operation but they do the pre-Op and Post-Op vision care. All staff wore PPE and ensured clients adhered to the covid measures. Nothing more frustrating than getting through the phone with this office . The answering machine gives you a selection and when they answer they can't help you after the answering machine tells you press 2 for scheduling Laura will answer the phone transfer you and call never goes through and you call and call and don't get help. I got lasik with Dr Wellish and that went well but there phone staff have some issues doing there job . It's a shame frustrating because the Dr.s are great. read more

I was a few minutes late because of traffic and parking and that was no problem. The visit was covered through our insurance. I made a same day appointment. I recently had a severe allergic reaction on my eyelids from eyeliner. I went to an urgent care, and it turns out they prescribed medicines that only exacerbated the symptoms. By the time I got to Wellish, my eyelids were severely swollen and red. They took me in immediately, a day sooner than my original appointment due to the severity. Everyone there treated me with dignity and care. Dr. May is soo sweet and truly amazing! He took one look and knew exactly what is needed. I'm happy to say that after 1 dose of medication, my eyelids are already getting some relief. I'm truly grateful and looking forward to my follow up appt. read more

This is going to be long and detailed because I had an awesome experience! They open at 7:30am, I had the first appointment of the day at 7:40am. I got there right on time. It was nice to see that the staff were all settled in (instead of just walking in) and coffee was already brewed! The waiting area looked really nice and modern! Spacious bright room, huge windows, good music, (relaxing image on a huge tv,) and a nice little coffee & water area. I was a new patient so I had a few pages to fill out, it was basic new patient paperwork- not pages and pages of unnecessary questions/waivers thankfully. As I filling out the paperwork and also waiting to be called, a few patients walked in and the front desk lady seemed to be familiar with all of them- it was comforting to see the patient-staff relationship. When I was called back, Celi was the tech that saw me before the doctor. She was super cute, friendly, professional, knowledgeable- all the above! Once she was done with me, she had me wait in a second (smaller) common waiting area. I waited for a bit while my eyes were doing its thing. Once ready- I was called back to see Dr. Ortiz (whom was highly recommended to me). First person that came into the room was Steven, he introduced himself as a student intern that would be shadowing Dr. Ortiz and asked if it was okay with me. During the exam, told me a little about himself: where he was from, how long he's in this rotation, and where his next rotation will be. Our little chat helped me feel more comfortable and made the visit more personable rather than a dry in/out doctors visit. After he did the exam, Dr. Ortiz came in shortly after and did the exact same exam (which shows me that Steven knows what he is doing). Dr. Ortiz is very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable! He answered all my questions and more, and even made me laugh a few times. He also told me a little bit about Steven, thanked me for letting him shadow, and then told me a little bit about himself and how he grew up in Las Vegas. We also had a nice chat- that really showed me that he cares about his patients and also have enough time to talk a little bit rather than just doing his job then rushing out the room. His assistant Gladys was in the room typing as he did the exam and helped him with a few other things. She was also pleasant to be around! Honestly I'm SO impressed with this office. It's been awhile since I've been this impressed with any doctors office. NOTE: this isn't a stand alone building so give your time to find it, good news is that the parking lot is huge and they are one of the first businesses once you walk into the building so you don't have to walk around looking for the suite. Also, it was very cold in the office, bring a light jacket! One LAST thing I just remembered- even when I made the appointment on the phone, I had a great experience! I spoke with Brian that easily helped me set up my appointment. At one location my appointment would've been over a month out to see Dr. Ortiz. So he checked a different location that had an opening the next day. He helped me set that up and was also friendly- turns out he has a second job that's similar to mine- so we chatted about that for a bit. I know this seems repetitive but it just shows me that every single staff member is personable and shows that they care to know you or make you feel comfortable- rather than just doing their job, getting it over with and on to the next. Love this place, I'll highly recommended them to family, friends, and anyone who asks. read more

I visited this location for my lasik consultation, pre-op and first post-op. Definitely my preferred office location since it's close to me and much newer! If you have a hard time finding it- it's right behind the social security office. Same amazing staff, even better location for me personally. I have always heard great things about Wellish Vision (many friends told me I HAD to go here for my LASIK), and they definitely live up to all that has been said about them. This office seems to run more on time each time I have visited, but maybe it's just the way they split the patients between the other office they have within the same building. I recommend this location if they don't need you to be seen at the flamingo office for a particular reason! It would be great for future patients if they start offering surgeries here as well! read more

Appointment times seem to mean little, only cramming on as many patients as possible. I showed up to an appointment 15 minutes early, waited 25 minutes past to be called. Then the assistant told me she was running a couple of tests for the doctor, which actually resulted in her putting the plugs in my eyes. Shouldn't that be a doctor? I was then asked to wait again, and after another 25 minutes, I let staff know I had another appointment and would have to leave, but was assured they would come get me before that. No one did, and I left without EVER seeing a doctor. I won't go back. Why 2 stars? They seem to be the only place in Las Vegas with a treatment for dry eyes, but not worth the aggravation. read more

Ordered an eye scan in December and the wait time during a follow-up appointment (to review test results) was longer than the two previous appointments when my pupils were dilated. He told me to plan on being there for at least 3 hours for any appointment. My thoughts: perhaps don't schedule so tight. read more

They were amazing, it has been a month since I've had PRK done, and I absolutely love it! Taylor, Bianca, Dr. McCandless, and Dr. Wellish were all amazing. Everyone there is super friendly and they do a great job making you feel comfortable. If you are thinking about doing it, it seems scary at first but recovery wasn't too intense. I took a long weekend from work and was able to get right back to it. I only had some pain for a few hours a few days after my surgery but otherwise it has been a nice recovery. They always are cautious and suggest doing one eye at a time, but doing both eyes has been easier for me. The only thing is that you won't be able to drive for a few days so take a few days off or work from home! I recommend doing PRK, and I am happy I came here to do it. read more

I just could not believe someone could be so rude working in a doctors office. He refused to answer any questions and kept telling me to call the phone number to ask questions. I was already in the office! I had a few questions about appointments and he told me, "You gotta call the number, I don't know." How is the person the the front desk of a office not going to know about appointments?! I have recently scheduled an appointment at The Wellish Vision Institute as a new patient. I was surprised by the warm welcome upon entering. It didn't feel like your typical Optometry office. I was immediately greeted by Lauren. The wait was extremely short. Once I was called back, I did a pre-exam with Sahar. She was very professional and made sure I was comfortable during the pre-exam. I appreciated the questions of comfort because I have been to appointments where my neck was in a weird position but I was nervous to move into a comfortable position. Dr. Ortiz, introduced himself and took his time to clearly and methodically explain the findings in my ocular health and advised me on practical options of vision correction. Here's some things I experienced while getting an eye exam, which I haven't done in over five years.. First, after arriving I approached the receptionist to affirm my appointment.. She was very nice and polite. After that, I took a seat and began to prepare for the eye exam.. Shortly there after my name was called and I was ushered to the back where the exam was about to start.. After getting my eyes dilated by a female assistant, I was greeted by a man, whom I believe to be an ophthalmologist.. He extended his hand and told me his name was Dr. Ortiz. I replied back by saying, "my name is Jim, nice to meet you, Dr. Ortiz". He began to ask a few questions concerning previous eye injuries and eye exams, I quickly told him what I knew, as I prepared myself to face the, BLUE LIGHT, he was preparing to examine my eyes with. During the eye exam, Dr. Ortiz was preforming on me, I was asked to look in various directions so that he can see the back of my eyes, and to check my eye pressure. Normally when getting this procedure done, my eyes would tear up very badly, and be sensitive to the light, but to my surprise, none of that happened.. I believe because the experience Dr. Ortiz has obtained over the years as a eye doctor, he was able to do my eye exam and made it feel comfortable, which also made it a more pleasant experience for me.. Over all, my experience was great. Dr. Ortiz showed me, he is a professional and has a true care and concern for his patients. They keep scheduling for more visits. I went there three months ago expecting full scan for glaucoma. They wouldn't do it with the visit. They say come back in three months. I went there today, but they still can't do glaucoma screen because the machine broke and yet they dilate my eyes. Dr said come back in a month so he can do the glaucoma screen and said he won't dilate eyes again. Are you kidding me? If glaucoma can be screened without dilation why wouldn't he do it in the first place? They couldn't call or text to inform machine doesn't work? It takes time and energy to take off from work. Perhaps more visits can collect more money? Unethical medical practices like that give bad reputation for medical industry. read more

Dr. Ortiz and his staff are incredible. They saved my sight. I'm 27 and was diagnosed with a rare brain disease that causes vision loss. Dr. Ortiz was thorough, polite, and caring. He looks at you when he speaks and genuinely cares about his patients. Lauren, at the front desk, is so personable and will fight to get you an appointment when the Dr sends you to a referring physician. I'll never go anywhere else. read more

I came to Wellish because for years now my eye have been red , itchy and they burn almost everyday. I came in was greeted by Lauren and Yesenia . They were both very nice and helpful. I got taken back pretty quick and they got started right way . Dr. Ortiz was also very nice . He did my exam and confirmed I had dry eye and allergies. He ordered me some allergy drops , gave me some refresh samples, and put plugs in for the dry eye . It was a quick and easy procedure . I'm so glad I came here. My eyes feel so much better . office is hard to find. that must be the reason everyone had to wait over an hour to have eyes checked after dialating. since it is a new location we saw lots and lots of tours to associates, but all the patients seem to have been forgotten. the paperwork that was mailed ahead of time was insulting and asked questions that clearly had nothing to do with eyes. and it was all in spanish. i know there are many spanish speakers, but shouldn't they have 2 sets and find out what you need when making the appointment? finally we are called for the eye check, the doctor strolls in and does not even introduce himself. i see the screen with the personal information, city is incorrect & it says social security number refused. they really either need new forms or better attention to detail; especially since the social is required for the insurance claim. not impressed. read more

I can't say enough good things about the staff at Wellish. They accommodated me after hours in an emergency situation and have been super-professional in follow up and subsequent visits. Dr Wellish performed a complex procedure on my eye and did it after hours without blinking an eye . I hope to never see them again under these circumstances but going forward the Wellish Vision Institute will get all of my family's business and I would highly recommend to everyone. I had to see Dr. May on an emergency basis yesterday due to a stye which suddenly appeared on my lower right eyelid. The friendly and helpful office manager Nicole was able to schedule an appointment for me at 3:40 PM at their newest location on South Eastern in Henderson. I arrived around 3:20 PM and had a very short wait time before the doctor's assistants administered a preliminary exam to make sure that I had experienced no vision changes. Shortly thereafter, Dr. May arrived to further examine my eye, to render a diagnosis, and to prescribe the proper treatment and follow-up. I was extremely impressed with the courteous and professional treatment that I received from everybody who helped me! I have been going to the Wellish Vision Institute for years because it was actually Dr. Kent Wellish who performed my LASIK surgery way back in 2003. For the past few years, Dr. Mattheis has been treating me at the Box Canyon location and he is another great doctor. I was fortunate yesterday to secure a same-day appointment with Dr. May who is their eyelid specialist.
