Dr. Hays was a faculty member at Barry University's School of National and Health Sciences for twenty-four years while working as a Ft. Lauderdale civic activist serving on many city advisory boards. Dr. Hays passed away in 2009. The 2.49 acre park is located off of Riverland Road in Ft. Lauderdale, It is open daily from 6 AM until 9 PM. Park amenities include a walking exercise path, open play area, pavilion with picnic tables, grills, benches, and a very nice shade covered playground. Since it is a civic park there is a grove of trees at the park entrance that have plaques commemorating the volunteer efforts of community members. Although small the park is very nicely maintained is perfect for taking the kids to play, a picnic, or just getting some fresh air and exercise.

As a spooky girl, the Banyan tree captured my fancy. It's stood tall and majestic with its hanging vines forming a shelter like structure. At the time of my visit, there were a few ladies sitting under it getting ready for a drumming circle. We watched for a bit before moving on. The park has loop trails. It's easy to follow via the trails app. It's a great place for hikes, long walks or for just taking a break from people. The kids would love it here as well. We walked past a few play grounds and biking trails. I plan on taking the kids back soon for some fun. 10/10 as far as parks are concerned.

There are no shaded areas so plan to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon. However, if you end up here right in the middle of the day, don't worry! Your kids will be excited to cool down at the adjacent water park- also free! In between the city and water park there is a nice mostly shaded playground. This was such a fun place to visit! There is a big mall within a 10 min drive so you can make this a day trip!

The park is located in a beautiful neighborhood, right across the street from the library, making it a perfect spot for families. It's spacious, lush, and green with plenty of trees providing shade--great for both play and relaxation. The park does close on Wednesday mornings for landscaping but reopens at noon. On weekends, it definitely gets more traffic, but it never feels overwhelming thanks to the space and layout. This is a cute citrus themed playground honoring Davie Florida's past as a top citrus producer. At…read moreit's peak in the 1950's there were 5,000 acres of citrus fields and 40 citrus packing houses in Davie. Today less than a 100 acres of citrus remain and there are no commercial citrus producers in South Florida. The park was named after Math Igler Citrus Grove, a citrus grove and packing house that had been in operation in Davie since the 1950s. The land that was the grove is now a housing development and this park. After the packing house was dismantled, equipment including scrubber sections which cleaned the fruit; the sorting section, where workers pulled the fruit that was too small for shipping; the wax and dryer, to polish the fruit; and, the bin area to prepare the fruit for shipping were donated to the Davie Schoolhouse Museum for an exhibit on agriculture and citrus packing. You can learn more about Math Igler and the other citrus groves that once called Davie home at the museum. The 1.5 acre park has two play structures with stairs and slides. The tops of the play structures have orange trees and there's an orange juice stand that children can play in. There there are also paved walkways, benches, and a pavilion with picnic tables and grill. There is also an ADA accessible swing. The large trees in the park provide welcome shade. This is a very nice place to take the kids to play and I like how it's dedicated to the history of the citrus land it sits on.

There is an area within the park that is a community garden- where you can rent your own plot and plant. Very cool! You'll likely see people riding horses though which is cool too!

The playground had a number of unique items of play that I haven't seen at other parks. There is also a large climbing structure with several ways to scale up it and slides to take you down. The only drawback is the rather small parking lot but I don't imagine that this park gets very crowded from people outside the neighborhood. This is a well maintained park perfect for picnics, exercise, and taking the kids to play. Davie takes great care with their parks and this is another excellent example of their dedication to providing safe and clean recreation areas in the city.
