It is the main…read moretrain station in Baltimore and was designed by New York architect Kenneth MacKenzie Murchison. As I said, it is old and was built in 1911 in the Beaux-Art style. Thankfully, there has been some renovations that were completed in 2024 that included a newly polished façade, refurbished windows, new roof, and upgraded lighting. You can now see the beautiful color of the green tiles that were part of the original design of the station that have been hidden for years. It was wonderful to see our local train station restored to its former glory. When you look at the front, you will see five rounded openings and three central archways that are used as the entrances to the station with sets of triple doors. When you step inside, do look up and take in the beautiful, domed, stained-glass skylights. Moving along, there is a waiting area for passengers with old wooden benches. Thankfully, there are elevators to take you down to the tracks if you need it. What is still ugly to me, but fine for others, is the sculpture out front. It just does not go with the beauty of this train station. It was placed there in 2004 and sculpted by Jonathan Borofsky as the centerpiece of a re-designed plaza in front of Penn Station. It is a 51-foot-tall aluminum statue, named Male/Female. You be the judge if it belongs here or not! We used the Red Cap Service at Penn Station in Baltimore to catch our Acela train to New York. Tracey, the Red Cap, was such a help to us. She expertly took us and our luggage down to the train with plenty of time to board, store our luggage in the train car, and get us settled. We were in the quiet car, which we appreciated. Although this Acela was not one of the new trains, we had an uneventful ride to New York with no delays due to the hot weather.

When you enter, restrooms are to your left, and you may…read moreenter the Dunkin Donuts from that corner, Amtrak windows are to your right, along with a small newsstand, and ahead of you is a rounded booth with people you may inquire with and train information posted above them. Just behind them is the hall with the lettered gates. We were told ours would most likely be Gate E. Honestly, it seemed every train was Gate E during our wait. Communication could be improved. When we went through the gate and down the stairs, there was no train waiting. So when they announced "last call" we wondered if we had already missed the train or had accidentally gone to the wrong track. Fortunately the train arrived shortly thereafter.

I usually bypass the indoor option in excitement of waiting on my train. Amtrak is my fav to travel to and from New York City. The trains are on time 95% of the time, clean cabins, smooth ride, spacious bathrooms, comfy canteen, amazing employees, etc. I have also taken the train as far as Hampton, VA and it was a smooth, scenic, and peaceful ride. I am Amtrak's number 1 fan, and I look forward to many many more experiences riding the rails.

This station services the commuters of Baltimore working in Washington DC. It also makes stops at several towns along the route. One way ticket costs $8. The small lobby was clean and well lit at night. Only problem is the limited operating hours. The last train leave Baltimore to DC at 8:05 a.m. The 1st train leaves DC at 4:13 p.m. for commuters going home. There are no services in between those two times. If you plan accordingly, it is a cheap way to travel to DC from Baltimore for sight touring.

So I've been thoroughly sick of the Penn Line here recently - the trains are always breaking down,…read morelate, etc. I decided to attempt getting to work on the Camden line instead; it turns out that it's actually better for me in some ways. The Camden MARC station is right on the back end of the Light Rail - all I have to do is hop off the train in the morning, and there I am, no walking, no inconvenience. There's only two tracks, so the train will come in on one or the other. There's a small waiting room for those who don't want to freeze to death. And the conductors seem to be a lot friendlier on this line as well, so that's a plus. There are a couple of negatives that prevent this from being a 5-star review: - The Camden line itself doesn't run enough trains. There's maybe 4 or 5 in the morning, 3 at night - that's it. I'm surprised, as this line goes through Laurel, which is really heavily populated. - The Camden line runs those awful single-level cars where everyone's squished into their seats. It's rare to get a bi-level car, but when you do, there's nothing better. This line is much quieter than Penn (despite having almost as many passengers) and, in my opinion, better run. If it was convenient to me in the afternoon I'd use it (unfortunately it takes twice as long to get home), but for the morning run it's perfect - I get off at Greenbelt, transfer to the Green line on WMATA, that's it - no more fussing around at Union Station trying to fight the masses on the Red line.... Love me some Camden.

For the southbound platform, you have to either take stairs or the elevator to a pedestrian bridge across the tracks to the opposite side. Beware that the elevator is slow and not very big, so there will likely be a wait to use it.

It was nice being dropped off and picked up. We did have issues with our card online, but when I called in to book, Nancy was helpful. She got us all situated and sent an email to confirm. We filled out waivers online which was a breeze. We watched a quick safety video, picked up our lifevest and were on our way. The water was the perfect temp, and it was clear. Tips: bring snacks and water. You are out there 4-5 or longer hours. Especially if the water is low, which ours was. We used a waterproof bag and had no issues. We used a tube with a cup holder which was nice. I wore my life vest out of precaution even though I can swim, plus it made it comfortable for my to use it as a neck rest. I've noticed people mention in previous reviews that the bus was dirty ect. Um, you're in the woods. If you get picked up after many other groups the bus will be dirty as everyone is wet coming out of the water no matter what activity you choose. I would not own a brand spanking new vehicle for this type of environment and job. Used is best and saves money I'm sure. Wear a hat and sunglasses, put in that sunscreen. Bring a waterproof phone case/bag. You will have no service out there so put it on airplane mode and use it as a camera.

A little trivia: Wheaton Metro Station has the longest subway escalator in the Western Hemisphere…read more(and in the US). The escalator is 230 feet long, with a vertical rise of 115 feet. For the most part, Wheaton's Metro Station is pretty decent (relative to living in NYC for a couple of decades). With access to the red line (obviously) and a large number of DC Metro and Montgomery County bus lines, I guess this could be considered a major transportation hub. This metro station has direct access to various shops (e.g, Westfield Mall), restaurants, and bars. I will recommend being careful because Georgia Avenue can be a bit of a mess for pedestrians. Compared to other metro stations in the DMV area, I have not noticed a large transient population; however, it can get a little sketchy at night. If you are new to the area, it might be a bit confusing to get the hang of the MANY bus bays, but you will get the hang of it in no time. If you have physical issues with using steep ramps escalators, elevators are located across the street from the main entrance.

Theyre literally just bodies waiting for a train. No one smiles, no one chit chats. Its very dry. The most scary part of this station is the fact that you have to cross live train tracks on foot. If you miss the morning NB Camden line train to DC by a minute and you arent on the other side--you might as well turn around and go to Greenbelt. Freight trains pass through frequently so you need to be extra careful. Theres no ticketing machine here for MARC so youll need cash to pay the conductor. Yea it sucks. I miss Laurel.
