Bridge / overpass to get on the other side of the platforms overlooking the tracks
    Nisha B.

My Go to PENN LINE Marc train station. Free Parking. If you commute during the week, get here by 7AM to be able to park on the far end (most of the good, central parking is gone). Parking does still get crowded, EARLY. There are 2 NEW machines to get Marc tickets. Heading South, you're going towards WASHINGTON DC. Heading North, you're going towards BMORE (Penn Station) / Martin Airport. There are 3 floors... the ground level where the bathroom is and ticket machines, 1st floor goes towards DC and the 2nd Floor goes towards Baltimore and North points. To get to the Bmore side, you must go up FLIGHTS of stairs or take the 1 slow elevator to get up to the 2nd floor and then walk across the overpass bridge, then down to the 1st floor on that side. This is my only draw back about this location. It's the elevator is SO slow or if they had 2 elevators on each side, that would be great. There is not really an indoor sitting spot here, it's all outside. Unless you wait in the overpass on the 2nd floor if needed. It's still breezy because it's not closed a "closed" door bridge. There is a seeminly unmarked bathroom on the ground level. Before you walk up the steps to the first floor from the ticket machines, you can head straight back to a green door that says restroom on the side of it (its not on the actual door itself). Unclean, but warm and useful if you need it. There are buses to UMBC that run from this location as well. As of Jan 2019, it costs $7 to take the Marc train from Halethorpe to Washington DC/ Union Station. Plenty of parking on the weekends for travel. There are display boards for Departures and Arrivals as well. During inclement weather, make sure you check the Marc Train advisory site to see if the train schedule has changed to an "R schedule". I once went during snow and didn't realize the scheduled changed, so fortunately, i was able to sit and wait in my car. I come here to get the Penn Line to DC. It has lots of free parking, but the platform outdoors so keep the weather in mind when you are traveling. You can purchase tickets via the machines at the station or via the Charm Pass app on your phone. This is the closest station to me out in Baltimore County. The lighting could be better in the parking lot at night, so I try to park near a light pole.

It is the main…read moretrain station in Baltimore and was designed by New York architect Kenneth MacKenzie Murchison. As I said, it is old and was built in 1911 in the Beaux-Art style. Thankfully, there has been some renovations that were completed in 2024 that included a newly polished façade, refurbished windows, new roof, and upgraded lighting. You can now see the beautiful color of the green tiles that were part of the original design of the station that have been hidden for years. It was wonderful to see our local train station restored to its former glory. When you look at the front, you will see five rounded openings and three central archways that are used as the entrances to the station with sets of triple doors. When you step inside, do look up and take in the beautiful, domed, stained-glass skylights. Moving along, there is a waiting area for passengers with old wooden benches. Thankfully, there are elevators to take you down to the tracks if you need it. What is still ugly to me, but fine for others, is the sculpture out front. It just does not go with the beauty of this train station. It was placed there in 2004 and sculpted by Jonathan Borofsky as the centerpiece of a re-designed plaza in front of Penn Station. It is a 51-foot-tall aluminum statue, named Male/Female. You be the judge if it belongs here or not! We used the Red Cap Service at Penn Station in Baltimore to catch our Acela train to New York. Tracey, the Red Cap, was such a help to us. She expertly took us and our luggage down to the train with plenty of time to board, store our luggage in the train car, and get us settled. We were in the quiet car, which we appreciated. Although this Acela was not one of the new trains, we had an uneventful ride to New York with no delays due to the hot weather.

Just behind them is the hall with the lettered gates. We were told ours would most likely be Gate E. Honestly, it seemed every train was Gate E during our wait. Communication could be improved. When we went through the gate and down the stairs, there was no train waiting. So when they announced "last call" we wondered if we had already missed the train or had accidentally gone to the wrong track. Fortunately the train arrived shortly thereafter.

This is not one of the better MARC stations…read more The cons: - you have to walk up or down about 2 flights rickety of stairs to get to the platform - the platform itself is very small, it will be crowded - there is no place to sit or shelter from the rain - because the platform is so small only 2 train cars stop at the platform; if you are getting off here you have to make sure you are at the right exit or you will miss the stop - the step up into the train is high. The conductor puts out a little step stool to help you onto the train stairs, however, these are high steps and if you have any sort of mobility problems, this may be an issue for you. On the upside, it has a large parking lot, so parking is easy.

I believe that I was singled out. I did not hear of anyone else car being damaged.

No high platforms here. I challenge anyone in a wheelchair to attempt THIS.

How would you like to walk under THIS at the crack of dawn? With no street lights on? Uh, NO. Just, hell no.

This station services the commuters of Baltimore working in Washington DC. It also makes stops at several towns along the route. One way ticket costs $8. The small lobby was clean and well lit at night. Only problem is the limited operating hours. The last train leave Baltimore to DC at 8:05 a.m. The 1st train leaves DC at 4:13 p.m. for commuters going home. There are no services in between those two times. If you plan accordingly, it is a cheap way to travel to DC from Baltimore for sight touring.

The Camden MARC station is right on the back end of the Light Rail - all I have to do is hop off the train in the morning, and there I am, no walking, no inconvenience. There's only two tracks, so the train will come in on one or the other. There's a small waiting room for those who don't want to freeze to death. And the conductors seem to be a lot friendlier on this line as well, so that's a plus. There are a couple of negatives that prevent this from being a 5-star review: - The Camden line itself doesn't run enough trains. There's maybe 4 or 5 in the morning, 3 at night - that's it. I'm surprised, as this line goes through Laurel, which is really heavily populated. - The Camden line runs those awful single-level cars where everyone's squished into their seats. It's rare to get a bi-level car, but when you do, there's nothing better. This line is much quieter than Penn (despite having almost as many passengers) and, in my opinion, better run. If it was convenient to me in the afternoon I'd use it (unfortunately it takes twice as long to get home), but for the morning run it's perfect - I get off at Greenbelt, transfer to the Green line on WMATA, that's it - no more fussing around at Union Station trying to fight the masses on the Red line.... Love me some Camden.
