    My fully healed toothless cat!

My cat had a severe case of stomatitis/ gingivitis that required full extraction surgery. My vet offered a price over $4k for the procedure and little clarity on the process. I found Pearly Bites online and was drawn to their upfront layout of their care and cost. Many other places I looked into required a consultation before any info on pricing which was so frustrating. Pearly Bites was so different. Consultation, procedure, and any required follow ups and medication were included in one price. My vet spent an extensive amount of time telling me about the procedure and potential risks. I got check in calls and appointment confirmations as well as extra medication when I struggled to administer pills. I had so much confidence and peace of mind using their services. I could not recommend more. If my cat had teeth left to tend to, I would be back.

This place is amazing. My dog Alfie has had two dentals in the past, and neither were as good of an experience as Pearly Bites. The office is clean and professional, I was seen promptly each time I came in, the receptionist is friendly and welcoming, and the vet who saw Alfie was fantastic-- incredibly competent, and warm (to both Alfie and I). They brought me in for a consult before the procedure and gave me an honest and accurate assessment of Alfie's teeth and were up-front about potential complications. The vet sat me down with a dog teeth model to show me which of Alfie's teeth were areas of concern. As for the actual procedure, while some teeth needed extracted, the vet was able to save each of the essential teeth (canines and molars) that she was initially concerned about. This is not a vet that is going to extract teeth unless it's absolutely necessary. Additionally, after previous dentals, Ive gotten the impression that Alfie had been given a bit too much anesthesia (I.e., he'd been unable to use the bathroom or eat for about 24 hours after waking up), but that was not my experience here. He was eating soft food and using the bathroom within an hour of waking up, and recovery was quite smooth. And his teeth look amazing. This office is also committed to ensuring that pets are recovering well; they bring you back for a check-up after two weeks (not my experience with prior dentals). Finally, everyone at Pearly Bites treated Alfie with care & compassion at all times. He's a special case--he is deaf and blind and unusually anxious in new spaces. Everyone was gentle and friendly with him and he was relaxed to be back in the office when I brought him back for a check up today (absolutely not the case at his usual vet trips).

I am so glad I found this place! My dog needed a dental cleaning and I was concerned about the cost. I called a bunch of places and nobody could give me exact pricing. The ranges were so high. This place was completely upfront about pricing and it was surprisingly affordable- especially for NYC! I couldn't be happier with the experience. From beginning to end, the process was fantastic! Nicole, the receptionist, walked me through every detail with patience and professionalism. The doctor was really nice and answered all of my medical questions. They even gave my pup a toothbrush to keep up with cleaning at home just like a human dentist! I highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality, affordable, stress-free dental care for their pet! Pic with Zephyr's fancy new smile below!

I never leave reviews but Dr. Livermore, Jen, and the entire Pearly Bites team deserve all the praise in the world. My dog Hillary gets dental cleanings every year (tiny dog with a tiny mouth = terrible teeth) and we've always done it through our primary vet. Doing it through Pearly Bites was so much easier. The price transparency is a total game changer. The entire procedure cost about $800 less than the low estimate I received from my primary vet this year. Most vet experiences end in a long rant from my partner on the car ride home about how crazy expensive vet care is in NYC, and even he was impressed by how reasonable, fair, and honest the pricing was. Dr. Livermore took her time to chat with us at our consultation and was so sweet to Hillary. On the day of the procedure, they texted us updates throughout the day. My favorite thing though has to be the before and after pictures they send home! Pretty sure I've sent them to half the contacts in my phone book, I was so impressed! So long as we have dogs, Pearly Bites can count on us to be repeat customers.

They were clear, communicative, and Dr. Macri ensured I fully understood what was happening with my little friend and what next steps were. A week later, Gomez is back to normal. Dr. Dougherty and his team are seriously the best. If you have any type of cat, sphynx, regular cat, whatever, I highly recommend you take them here. They have a love for cats and their care for them shines through. Their office is beautiful and well run, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and their bedside manner is second to none. Dr. Dougherty let me dump my anxiety on him and talked me through every one of my concerns, in layman's terms that also came with a huge amount of confidence. He was not trigger happy to run any tests and really gave me the pros and cons of every test and was completely upfront with pricing. When it came time for the dreaded rabies vaccination, not one of my (admittedly, very easy going) cats even flinched. I have a Sphynx breed and for some reason other vets seem to hem and haw at what he's dealing with, Dr. Dougherty didn't bat an eye and seemed to be able to communicate with Morrie on a feline level. I am truly blessed to have Dr. Dougherty and his team in my cat's corner, because I know with them, my cats will always have the best medical care. On a slightly irrelevant note (but to me equally as important), Dr. Dougherty treats his coworkers and techs with such respect and kindness, I was truly inspired.

So I called Midtown, and Dr. Suchanek let me come in immediately. And he could not have been lovelier -- let me sit and cuddle Mouse for the last time before the procedure, gave me as much time as I needed with him, then was so incredibly kind afterward... And his prices are shockingly reasonable, especially for Manhattan! Since then I've taken my younger cat in as well, and the doc has been really calm and thorough -- I've never felt rushed -- and he even called several times after, to check on how Scamp was doing. Also, it may seem like a small thing, but the office is clean, pretty, and peaceful. And even when I was terribly upset, the staff was super nice and patient. Called this place after doing an extensive search for a decently rated pet ER (not many around me). I am so thankful there is at least one, and they're open 'round the clock. She was awesome. Thorough and caring. While nothing appeared to be an evident emergency, my cat was clearly suffering from something hurting him. Recommended course of action seemed slightly excessive, but this vet truly stepped up to help me out. I consented to an xray, which indicated constipation. Treatment included sub-q hydration, anti-nausea medication, and a laxative. Cat had never been poked and prodded so much in his life. But he was such a good boy, and thankfully never bit or scratched- just growled and hissed. I would have too, little buddy!! I've gone back and forth over whether to write a review or not, but at the end of the day, this is about our besties, who for many of us are our children.. I wish someone had warned us about the lack of "heart" in "heart" of Chelsea, their irresponsible and incompetent care before we found ourselves in this position. On Saturday morning 1/13/24 my husband brought our dog to HOC with a fractured humerus. At first, things seemed great as they called around to find an option to get us to a hospital with a surgeon on call and recommended American Medical Center. Unfortunately, everything else that followed was unprofessional, unacceptable, and unbelievably upsetting. For whatever reason, someone at HOC told us to arrive at 4 a.m. to AMC and that his x-rays and records would be sent. At 8 p.m. I called AMC and they said they'd never heard of any individual being told by their vet (or any person) to come at 4 a.m. and couldn't understand why we were told to do that. They said that was highly irregular. At this point, we'd now lost valuable time since apparently there had been a surgeon on staff earlier and possibly could have gotten him on the schedule that day and now with it being MLK Day the following day, we'd likely not be attended to right away. They also had no X-Rays from HOC. (HOC would later put the blame on AMC, a 100-year old institution with a stellar reputation.) My husband was told at the time of the visit, "if we had questions or concerns, we should page the doctor on call and they'd be able to help. Not to worry." Awesome (in theory). After AMC said the info HOC gave us was incorrect and confusing, we called and paged the HOC doctor on call. And TWICE a person who did not identify herself called back. She had no idea who we were, what we wanted, why we were paging and after we explained everything and expressed our panic and concern, she not only provided us with no sense of security or any information of any kind at all, but she was totally dismissive, said she couldn't be of any help and hung up after less than 3 minutes with no answers. I can't imagine that was a doctor and if was shame on you. HOC's manager Jody later insisted that was the doctor we spoke to, which was even more worrisome to know that a doctor could act like a teen working the late shift at Taco Bell. Hoping the original doctor was right, we showed up at 4:30 a.m. And it was pointless. Had we gone after HOC, we could have gotten on a schedule, but instead lost a day. But I digress. our dog was taken in at that time. ... And we get told he may get surgery that day but most likely not. Later in the day the surgical team calls and said it'll probably be Monday or more likely Tuesday. WHAT!!! And we are left with a lot of questions and, being dog dads, left in anxiety-filled confusion. Here's where it goes from bad to the completely unacceptable and unconscionable. Again, we did what we were told to by the original doctor and paged the "doctor on call." A woman called back, and I explained everything. I was clearly a distressed dog dad and she literally told me "I don't know anything. I am only the person answering calls from 7 to 9. I can not be of any help. I don't have info. This isn't anything I know. Sorry. Bye." And I say this will all seriousness an no sarcasm intended, I have had more compassion, information and professionalism from the DoorDash delivery person about a food order than I did from your "on call" person over my canine child who was in an animal hospital ICU. Yet, as if it could not get any worse or more infuriating ... this morning we got a call from someone at HOC and my husband spoke to her this time. He explained everything and how we had just paid $10K and were told that the surgery could go to Tuesday or Wednesday and now and the response was, do you want me to call around to find you another hospital to go to. What the hell?! That was the sage advice and suggestion. Knowing we had now paid you $1,400, including $400+ for X-Rays that were never sent and had to be redone (essentially costing us $400), and knowing our dog was already in the ICU at AMC (where HOC suggested) and that we paid $10k, they thought having us go find a new surgical team at some other place in some other part of town, disrupt him and move in his fragile condition and pay another $10k (potentially delaying surgery further and potentially causing more damage to his injury and traumatizing him even more (not to mention the trauma we were already experiencing) was the wise, secure and sound medical advice you had to offer. We accepted years ago that choosing HOC meant paying a little more because the care was basic: shots, blood work and the occasional eye infection. I would not trust them with the care of any animal, and could never in good conscious recommend them to anyone.
