We hired them for a full backyard Reno with full wall of ficus trees, full DG backyard with gravel edges, and a wood fence. Everything was going smoothly with scheduling and communication. When the actual work got started, I noticed the DG was not high-quality. It contained a lot of large rocks. Also, they were not digging out enough dirt before laying the DG. I had to bring that up to the foreman and they did dig up some more dirt before laying the DG. When the work was done, a foreman did a quick walk-through with me and I thought everything looked good. We were told not to walk on the wet DG for a day or two. So two days later when I did a better inspection, I started to notice a lot of shotty work. Specifically with the bender board dividing the gravel and I noticed that they used really small nails for the wooden fence. They did come back a month later to fix the DG because there were areas that were "bouncy", as if not enough DG was laid down. They had to dig up big rocks that were preventing the DG from compacting and they laid more DG on some areas. They also tried to fix some bender board problems, but they did a really horrible job. Three months later, some wood planks on our wood fence start curving and popping up. I called the company because our DG and our fence are under a year warranty. Jake asked me to email him with photos and he said he would call back to schedule a day for repair. Since then I have not heard back from them; they have completely ghosted me. I waited a month then I started calling and no one will pick up the phone. I've left messages and I sent text messages to project manager, Amanda, who was great at communication at first, but now has completely ghosted me as well. Meanwhile, we're still paying monthly for this backyard that is falling apart way too quickly. I'm going to just hire someone to fix the fence before it damages further. I would not recommend them again. Completely overpriced for what you get.

The finished project is beautiful, and our project lead, Gasim G., was responsible, accountable, and fully committed to every promise he made. Although Black Diamond's bid was the highest of the four onsite estimates we received, we chose them because they provided the most detailed proposal, a firm written commitment, and a strong, verifiable reputation. Looking back, we are thrilled with that decision. One thing I learned during this project is that proper ground preparation accounts for at least 80% of the work and complexity required to build a durable paver driveway that can support vehicle traffic. Even the highest-quality pavers cannot compensate for a poorly prepared foundation. Black Diamond removed our cracked concrete driveway and excavated a significant amount of soil. To our surprise, we discovered that the previous concrete contractor had cut corners and skipped proper ground preparation entirely. Black Diamond installed a thick base of gravel and sand, then carefully compacted and leveled the area before laying the pavers. Once the foundation was properly built, the paver installation itself was relatively straightforward. As with any construction project, unexpected challenges arose along the way. Gasim kept us informed with daily updates and managed the project as if it were his own home. He paid close attention to underground gas lines during excavation, designed a solution to route water from our downspouts through an underground drain pipe before installation, and carefully addressed tree roots, the side-gate transition, and connections to our existing landscaping. The crew even removed random buried metal debris they uncovered during excavation. These issues could have caused significant problems down the road if they had not been handled properly. We also struggled to choose the right hardscape ground cover to transition between our existing Italian cypress trees and the new pavers. Gasim went above and beyond by visiting several rockery suppliers and bringing back five different material samples for us to compare. The final result looks fantastic and ties everything together beautifully. The entire process--from contract signing to payment scheduling--was streamlined through an easy-to-use online system.
