This is intended to reduce the likelihood that late night conversations might disturb the sleep of people in upstairs rooms. We used West Coast Sound Solutions to soundproof two rooms from an adjacent neighbor and to remodel our small bathroom. They were great and easy to work with. We are new homeowners and knowing that we would be living/working from home, they understood our experience during the project is just as important as our happiness with the end result. We live in a 1964 apartment building, where the laundry room is in the middle of the building. The vent for the dryer went two stories into the garage below. That wasn't an issue when the garage didn't have doors. When they put garage doors on and sealed up the area, the laundry vented into the garage, covering cars and walls with laundry lint mess. We upgraded our laundry machines, which was great, till we found out the stacked dryers needed two separate vents. West Coast Sound Solutions sent out a venting specialist who created separate dryer vents (a safety requirement) and re-routed the laundry vent outside the building. No more laundry lint on cars and in the air! The flue is elegantly placed, with clean lines. They checked it out once and then came back to complete the job in one day. We talked to them on the phone and got a estimate that would be for around $10k-15k. After they came out to our place to check it out, the official quote became around 45-50k... Had we known there would be such a disparity, we would not have paid the $300+ for the official quote. The guy that came out was nice though, but it did take a few hours for him to be done. The part that I don't like the most is that there isn't a guarantee for their effectiveness. I could pay a large amount of money and then it could just not be very effective and I would be out of luck. Also, we wanted to soundproof one master bedroom and a quote of 45-50k is kind of crazy. I could do a good remodel for that price... The other concerning thing is that the good tell reviews that they have are short but the bad ones are quite long... Sounds like a hit or miss or some potentially fake reviews out there. I do think they capitalize quite a bit on the desperation of people who live in loud homes. And without any guarantees, it seems like the risk just ends up on the homeowners. read more

I bought a little vacation condo in 2020 with thin ceilings, but the upstairs neighbors weren't there much. Now they have retired and are there frequently and entertain heavily. Their footsteps, vacuuming, chair scraping and conversations were all a most unwelcome presence in my space, making me seriously consider selling the place. Instead, I hired West Coast Sound Solutions to throw everything they had at it--removing my entire ceiling, adding green glue and various other sound absorbing materials, and putting in springs to attach a new dropped ceiling in order to interrupt sound passages and to help absorb footfall and other impact noise. They also arranged to store my furniture during the construction and painted and cleaned the apartment afterwards. They made it easy for me. I went there last weekend for the upstairs poker party to check it out, and I was pleased and impressed! Conversations and other airborne sounds were almost eliminated, and though I could hear an occasional footfall it was muted and distant and not especially intrusive. They did a nice tidy job painting, and the ceiling is only about 1.5" lower than before. The WCSS people I worked with were all pleasant and professional. So glad they did this for me! When I moved into my Condo in the Mission I came in conflict with my downstairs neighbor because she could hear me walking in my apartment at all hours of the day and night. Wanting to be a good neighbor and needing new carpets we called SF Soundproofing and they soundproof my floors screwing down my squeaky floorboards and installing a 1/2 rubber mat from wall to wall and sound reducing carpet pad and installed wall to wall carpet over that. If you're thinking this will completely remove sound, think again. I worked with Elad (owner) and WCSS to help reduce the sound in our condo summer 2017. We have a unit above us that was noisy with heavy footsteps and talking. Our building is brand new construction, so it *should* be up to the highest modern standards. That said, we asked them to come out and do an evaluation of our unit. There were no tools and instruments used -- it was just done by ear (1st red flag). I would have expected some instruments to measure the decibel levels but they didn't use them. They assured us that 100% they can get rid of the noise. We entrusted them with this and embarked on a nearly 3 month renovation of our home. We moved out for 2 months while they worked. We ended up "upgrading" to the wave-hanger clips that they suggested we use. This is just a way for them to take longer, charge more, and have no impact on your house (2nd red flag). I sit today, 6 months after moving back in, giving 1 star for worksmanship and that's it. $70k gone and nothing has really changed. I can tell this because we didn't modify our bathroom and the sound between the bathroom and our main level is the same. Same for both airborne sound and structure-based impact sound. We can hear everything clear as day in both. With doors closed and without. I reached out and tried to figure out how to make it better. Elad came by, again did the same "ear test" of what was wrong, dumped off rug pads for upstairs and went on his way. He never followed up. He never really tried to make it better. The idea of "sound proofing" is a myth and Elad and his team are nothing but sales people who try to pitch you on the promise that your house will be quieter when they are done (3rd red flag). It's impossible to really know what will happen with your house, but our place is literally brand new. Elad even told me himself he's not sure why it's not better. In an age of science and engineering, I'm shocked they didn't have something to help gauge the sound decibel level (can be bought online for $50). In addition to this, I reached out multiple times to Elad to follow up on a painting quote and he completely ghosted me. The minute he was paid, we never heard another word from him. I'm just surprised given how great they were at responding to me seemed earlier. I would emphatically recommend against Elad and his team and save your money for more effective solutions (rugs, talking to your neighbors, etc). Learn from our $70k mistake -- there are much cheaper ways at fixing noise. Nothing Elad and his team have done has improved anything with the noise and we're continuing to figure out how to make things better. I couldn't be more disappointed in a "sound proofing" company and wish we never embarked down this path to begin with. Do not use WCSS and please seek additional quotes. Hopefully they will take a more scientific approach to sound proofing than these guys. read more

This is the most effective solution I've found anywhere in the state. The door tracks and windows not only cuts sound but keeps the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The presses was confusing and I found to be hard to explain when asked about it but seeing it brings light to what the equipment is doing and how it works. They even explain how to adjust the door tracks if ever needed although they set the adjustment just right and should ever be needed and the equipment is good for life! I got this because of the heavy traffic near my house but from the results I got I highly recommend this if you're doing ANY kind of recording. read more

We hired West Coast Sound Solutions to soundproof a room in our home, which faces the freeway. We were not sure if the noise levels could be reduced, and if so, which parts of the room would need to be upgraded. Elad used his experience and recommended we do the walls and windows. He felt the floor, ceilings, and walls in the closet would likely be ok left alone. For the walls Elad explained one product blocks low frequencies and the other high, so both should be done. We are very happy wIth the results. The noise level is reduced significantly. The finish work is beautiful and matches our other walls perfectly. Luis is the best for drywall work! I had a problem with sound, primarily sound traveling from an upper floor to the lower floor, and they recommended installing a sound proof carpet underlay with carpet on top. These guys were willing to patiently explain (and re-explain) all the options and their effectiveness along with a price quote. As far as price, I had some difficulty shopping around because soundproofing isn't a common product. I got one quote from a sub-contractor and they were more competitive than him. However, the carpet portion was less competitive as other carpet installers/stores. Taking everything into account, they were competitive and there were no hidden costs. Installation was done in a reasonable amount of time and in professional manner. This business is a subsidiary of A&M Carpet and Flooring and they reside at the same location. read more

Wow! These guys were great. I had a really odd issue with noise in my car. I do quite a few business calls from the road. So, sound quality is key. I'd tried working thru the dealer, made a few of my own attempts - no luck.
