I needed an emergency repair on my brother's front foot of his condo. The front door was locked in resulting in the frame around the door jam being shattered. I used Yelp to send a project to five companies that stated the nature of the problem and photos of the damage, and for those that responded within 24-hours, I asked specifically how they were going to repair the door frame. The cheapest quote stated that he would push in the damaged frame and glue it in place. Next . . . The most expensive quoted $150 an hour, plus materials. They stated that the entire door frame needed to be changed. Hmm. Maybe . . . The second lowest quote was by the Be James Team. They stated that their rate was $99 an hour (minimum two hours, but this project took longer), plus materials. Based on the photos they recommend a partial replacement of the door frame. They had a next-day opening in their schedule, and sent two technicians to the condo. The inspection revealed that this particular frame was problematic due to the construction and materials used, and replacement would be a two-day job. After a discussion with me stating that the time and cost of replacing the entire frame or even one side would be astronomical, they decided to replace a portion of the frame around the shattered door jam area, and then reinforce the side - a cheaper, but still a strong option. Six hours later, a single technician completed the job. The frame looks like new, complete with matching paint. The technician also cleaned the area of dust and debris. I am happy with the results. I contacted Be James Team with an oddly specialized request: to build ramps along the side of my two indoor staircases for my aging miniature dachshund. The team responded almost immediately that they could help me out and had the carpenter, Alex, come next day to see what he was working with. A few days later, work commenced and was finished in two days. The ramps are beautiful and incredibly study, which is what is needed for my little old dog to feel comfortable using them. Alex did such a professional job on my strange project and took everything very seriously to ensure it would be just perfect for my house and dog. (He also left the garage and house cleaner than when he arrived!) I'm excited that he made the ramps removable, in case I ever need the full staircase, or move -- but he used great, sturdy locking mechanisms to ensure each ramp was fastened tightly to the wall and to each other - genius! We had a small ceiling hole in our garage patched up that took a whole day. Roman the technician didn't bring any supplies but had to run to a hardware store to purchase. Questionable to start. Immediately after fixing, we had settlement falling from the ceiling. Several months later, more settlement. When speaking with Larry, he had originally agreed to send Roman back but Larry cancelled the day before citing Roman advised it was our earlier patch which Roman had offered to fix when he first came onsite. This is not true since we never had any fallouts from the earlier fix completed years ago and Roman never made any such offers when he first came because there wasn't any problems with the older patch fixed by another company. BeJames actually asked us to get another estimate to fix their shoddy work! Will not use them again. Be wary of the high volume of positive reviews. I've noticed in their low reviews that they have always blamed the customer. I'm sure they are going to do the same here and claim it was our old patched area that is causing the problem. We hired them to replace a vanity. It seemed to go well at first, but afterwards we noticed that the drain in the sink basin was higher than it should be, which resulted in water pooling around it instead of draining entirely. We were told that "that's just the design of it." We gave them the benefit of the doubt and reached out to the manufacturer about the drain being faulty (and they believed us because the pictures showed it was installed so high off the basin). About an hour later, we discovered the whole thing was leaking significantly into our brand-new vanity. When we reported it, they claimed it was because we had used it too soon. (For the record, we hadn't touched it since the plumber left hours earlier.) This didn't sit right with us--after all, the basic expectation of new plumbing is that it doesn't leak. We had the plumber return, and he was able to stop the leak. It turned out he had used a layer of putty that the installation instructions didn't call for. Even as he removed it, he tried to blame the issue on our "old pipes." Honestly, if they had just acknowledged the mistake, it wouldn't have been a big deal. But the whole experience felt a bit gaslight-y (we included screenshots of the messages--you can decide for yourself). Nick arrived when scheduled, and he shaved and sanded down the door frame and readjusted the hinges on my front door because it wouldn't close properly. The worker arrived on time, but I had some difficulty in communicating with him, because he had a limited knowledge of English. After he removed the doors he said the wheels were bad , so he went to Home Depot for new wheels. He couldn't find exact replacements, but found some generic parts. He had to modify them, and it took a lot of time to get them to fit. He was here almost three hours. This was my first time hiring someone to repair various issues in my home. We had a some repairs/improvements that we ran by Be James Team - installation of a door handle/lock on the sliding door and a broken shower spout. After the handyman arrived, we asked him if he could also fix the broken chimney damper and he kindly agreed. Communication was great and they arrived on time. I could tell that the handyman they sent worked quickly to repair the issues on a timely basis. The handle/lock and the spout was installed correctly and without issues. The handyman engineered a creative solution to the chimney damper after a quick run to purchase supplies, despite the damper's old construction and the fact that it was completely bent out of shape (original from the early 80s). He also offered to fix odds and ends he found - like a door stop that was lying around broken. Overall, this was a very satisfactory experience at an affordable price.
