I was referred to Dr. Ring and regretted it. He has no social skills, which is nice to have in a treating physician, but not really required. What is required is at least showing a bit of interest and not rushing through an exam as if you were double parked. Also, the ability to communicate in both listening and speaking. He possesses neither. Getting information from him is a challenge and frustrating - like trying to talk to a person who cannot speak your language. I had my first time appointment with Dr. Mayer today. A lot of other dermatologists weren't able to get me in for 6 months, but this one was able to just 2 months later. Dr. Mayer took her time as she checked over my body and explained any spots that I had concerns about. I had one spot that needed to be tested, but she helped me to feel very comfortable about it. We showed up 30 minutes early for an appointment and had to wait over an hour with no updates from the staff. Their board said they were on time. They were rude and condescending when I asked when they would see me even though 15 people came and went after me. When I complained about the detail, they suggested I go to urgent care. I sent pictures and had to wait three days for a response where they said the doctor wanted to see me as soon as possible. I am a patient and I'm very happy with my doctor Dr. Dorward. My issue is with the spa services side. My appointment with the esthetician was canceled two weeks in a row. That in and of itself would not be a problem but West County Dermatology only has one esthetician that works one day a week. It would be helpful if the practice would decide if it should continue offering these services or not. We recently moved and shifted to this practice. Alicia Miller was the provider. She did not want to hear about the history of the chronic condition, the current treatment - which is working - or what other treatments we've tried. Talked as a patronizing parent and said she didn't need to hear any of that because otherwise "why did she go to college" and she would not continue treatment or discuss. Said go elsewhere if you don't like it. Moral of the story - if there is only one provider with immediate availability - there is a reason. Steer clear. read more

I had been battling with a skin rash and an irritated scalp for a year. Dr. Ring and Tiffany offered several options, including skin scrapings and eventually they did a patch test. Tiffany was very helpful answering questions by email, and I had a lot of questions! They both explained what to expect (and what to not expect) and answered all my questions. The patch test was itchy, but I got answers on some allergens. They gave me the information I need to keep my skin and scalp clear! read more

My daughters and I have visited West County Dermatology 5-10 times and have seen two different doctors. Both physicians were helpful, cordial, and competent. The low rating comes from the management of the office. First, most visits we have had to wait 30-45 minutes past our scheduled time to even be called back. On the recent visit they were more than one hour behind and told me they were so understaffed they definitely couldn't have called to let me know. Second, when I've called to make an appointment, the phone is not answered and messages left are not returned. Third, in their "new system" they will not print an itemized bill for reimbursement by flex. You are required to call an out of state billing company for this. Whenever I interact with the front-facing staff (in person or by phone) they seem stressed out and give the impression they feel unsupported and overwhelmed. Dr. Doward is wonderful, but the staff there is terrible and unprofessional. They do not return voicemails and if you do get a live person, they still send you to voicemail. Tried to get a prescription refilled after seeing Dr. Ring (terrible bedside manner) and it took 3 weeks and numerous calls for them to call in the WRONG prescription in which I paid $50 for a useless medication which was their error. I've left messages again, faxed a request for a someone to return my phone call etc. and still no response...this is week 5. I was a client for several years, but will not be going back nor referring them to anyone I know. read more

Unfortunately after many years of my wife, myself and other family members using this practice, I can tell you that while Dr. Ring and the rest of the doctors are very qualified, the office has become so technologically dependent and lacking in personal service that it has become almost dangerous. My wife went in for a check up and the nurse practitioner took a biopsy. 14 days later having heard nothing from the practice, my wife called to inquire as to her results. The giggling secretary told her "I'm just going to read the report to you and you will have some questions but I can't answer them.". She then told my wife" it says you have a funny looking lesion and should contact "Dr. Rxxxxxx" (a surgeon). Wife drove in the next day to pick up the pathology report and the "funny looking lesion" was never mentioned but stated she has "junctional lentiginous melanocytic proliferation". Although the giggling receptionist didn't feel melanoma is too important, it is....and the fact that the office sat on the pathology report for 14 days and never would have contacted had she not called is inexcusable. The nurse practitioner finally called after all of this to say she was just too busy to call before and besides they see this sort of thing every day and not to worry. No call from Dr Ring and obviously a very disorganized office with little people skills. Use this practice at your own risk. The burden will be on you to follow up any tests. read more

The female doctor I saw at West County Dermatology in June of 2022 literally spent a full 5 minutes with me addressing the two issues that led me to schedule my appointment. My main issue was cystic acne, but given that they couldn't get me in for two months when I initially scheduled the appointment, I didn't have anything that day to show the doctor. Instead, she told me to "take pictures for next time," and then promptly, without obtaining a thorough medical history, prescribed a daily pill to take for the acne. She told me that it is normally prescribed to address blood pressure; I told her that I normally have low blood pressure. She didn't even bother taking my blood pressure or asking me any questions about this before simply telling me to call the office if I get dizzy. I was blown away at how little time was spent with me before throwing a prescription at me to get me out of there while still, of course, charging the $75 specialist office co-pay. Needless to say, I didn't fill that script and I will never be back to that office as they clearly are not in the business of actually helping people. read more

As the other reviews have described, the Doctors in this office are wonderful. BUT, I have experienced up to an hour of waiting time before the Doctor will see me for my appointment. The administrative office is a mess. You won't be able to reach anyone for weeks and they never respond to voicemails (IF they do it will be weeks after you have reached out to them). My family has been using this office for over 10 years and over the past few years my experiences with making an appointment or trying to contact the office staff has been nothing but AWFUL. No help at all. Doctor talked more to the nurse ABOUT me, than TO me. Didn't even offer any treatment, seemed to dislike me off the bat for some reason. I got my scars via a traumatic experience and he seemed to have a whole "Pfft, yeah, right" attitude about it. I left without any more help for them than when I walked in. He gave me a free sample for some treatments but no prescription for the stuff, so why bother? I tried to discuss laser treatment but he seemed dismissive (while he stood there with his hand on the door as I talked to him) and he just seemed to think that it was out of the question, I think most likely because I looked like I couldn't afford it. I have been several times for myself and kids and not one, not two but three times did I show up for my appt and even got the reminder call to sit for almost an hour and ask when is my son getting back and they check and said we don't have an appointment! I lost it....especially the third time! Luckily every time I kept the appointment reminder they give you to prove it to them but they were the biggest jerks about it! Their staff is hands down trash! These Dr's will be out of practice in no time due to their staff! The people at the front desk need to work at the DMV they are known for being ignorant. If you want to wait 4 months for an appointment for some acne cream this is the office for you. If your doctor referred you for any other reason then find an alternate provider. They had 4 months to tell me they couldn't find a referral on file and instead tell me 20 minutes beforehand that they won't see me without it. Even after calling my doctor who committed to sending it over the same day they wouldn't see me since it wouldn't arrive before my appointment. I don't understand why they don't operate like any other doctor. One way or another they would have been paid whether it's out of pocket or from insurance. If I die from skin cancer I'll make sure to send you a thank you card. read more

This place is in a beautiful location. I've gone to see Dr. Blattel and Dorwood and both are very nice. Dr. Dorwood seems to have more availability. Keep in mind that appointments book up to 3 months in advance and most are done in the afternoon and morning during most patients work schedule. However, I can schedule an annual visit during my lunch hour and get done with time to spare. You never feel rushed, they always want you to ask them questions or go over any concerns that you have. read more

Let me tell you about my experience. My doctor made a referral for a dermatology visit and Mercy referral send me a letter and called me about making an appointment. After having a difficult time finding a dermatologist who could see me within two months, I asked for help. Mercy called several doctors on my insurance and found West County Dermatology. I made an appointment, driving 20 miles from home. When I arrived, I was told by the front desk that I could not be seen without a referral in hand. I called my doctor's office and was given the referral desk at Mercy. Dr. Dorwood's receptionist would not speak with anyone on the phone to verify. She said that it was my responsibility to have the paper in hand and I had 10 minutes to get it to her. I stormed out very upset. I let her know that I would not be back. Not a good way to treat a first time patient! read more

I've only been to West County Derm. for two skin checks, but I'm pretty happy with the office. The first visit, I was called back fairly quickly and had a friendly chat with the nurse about my obviously impending baby. The second visit, I had a bit of a wait but not obnoxiously long. I also had my baby with me, as I was still on leave, and the doctor was understanding when he started to get fussy for lunch. The nurse was also happy to let me stay in the room after my appointment to feed him - very appreciative! read more

I totally agreed other reviewers said. In this office doctors are great, especially, Dr. Ring. But others seems not so good. They consistently forget my requests. If you want real medical doctors this is not the place for you. Furthermore if you are just needing fillers, Botox etc. remember you will NEVER speak to a human on the phone, EVER! I went in February 2018 for a couple spots on my face, one turned out to be pre-cancerous and the other was cellulitis. Took biopsy of both. Office girl (sounded as if she wanted to be doing anything else than having to talk to me) called said it's pre cancerous but they think they got it all. Nothing regarding the other spot. So now the precancerous spot is still bleeding and the other spot, after a CT scan is cellulitis. I have scaring on my face and I am having to go to a plastic surgeon monthly for steroid injections. Oh there is more this visit I paid out of my pocket since there was no referral from my primary care physician. I was told no problem when we have the referral you will be reimbursed from insurance, WRONG. It has been almost a year and no reimbursement. Than you call the office leave v.m. because they refuse to pay for a live person to answer the phone and god forbid if the billing guy answers his phone, they think we are so stupid. When he does call back it's a Minnesota phone number, really!!!! I believe they have good doctors but not all experienced enough, and to much pride to ask for help. They have lost sight and greed has taken over, read the other bad reviews we all sound alike. You are only as good as your support staff doctors and at the end of the day it is your fault. long time patient, but last 2 appointments have been a disaster. first one cancelled without my knowledge, and the second rescheduled appointment was delayed over 30 minutes without any explanation or apology. Called to request my medical records (as I will not be going back) and was transferred to 3 different people before getting a vm. I have been a patient of Dr. Ring's , one of the dermatologist at this practice, for nearly 20 years. Yes, a few months may seem like a long time to get into a doctor, but I've had poor doctors over the years and a few months is well worth the wait to me to get into a good doctor. and remain his patient, I can tell you that Dr. Ring has always spent time with me going over any questions I have had and he has taken the time to look closely into any concerns I might have. He is exceptionally knowledgeable and has also taking the time to reach out to other doctors I see to make sure any procedure that we are discussing does not interfere with any other health issue I might have. I've actually been extremely impressed with his care as a doctor and would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a great dermatologist. In fact I do recommend him to my family and close friends. I cannot speak on behalf of the other doctors, but I will say their staff has always been well-trained and exceptionally friendly as far as I found. Now, they are busy so they con't hold your hand or have a 15 minute conversation at the front desk when they're handling patients, but my priority is having a great doctor. That's it. The staff has also been very accommodating as far as trying to fit me in at the last minute when I have had something odd healthwise happening. And on a cosmetic note, the woman who usually works in their small skin care shop within the office is always super helpful in recommending products and finding discounts for me on products I select. read more
