Love this place, not sure why so many reviews are complaining about the employees as I've never had a bad experience over several visits the past 4 years of living in the area. They even give my dog a treat when we walk by! It's a small shop, and cramped inside, but that is central to its charm in my opinion, they're not trying to be anything they're not, and I've always received great information in response to the myriad questions I usually have when the time calls for a trip to the hardware store. This place does not deserve your business. Owners and rude and lazy, preferring to sit behind the counter and look at their phones. They seem to resent being asked for assistance and are very unhelpful. It's hard to believe they have stayed in business as long as they have. Avoid this place and go to another hardware store where they appreciate your business. read more

As a woman I know little about hardware, so I had questions to ask. One of the co-owners was extremely rude and unhelpful. He seemed to resent the fact that I had questions to ask. I walked out and will never return. I generally don't mind paying a little more to support local businesses, but not this place. I hope they go out of business. read more

After almost 2 years of neighbourly service I want to shout out to Steve who has never missed the mark mixing and matching paint for my chipped tiles, combining tubing to hide wires and even receiving calls at home about the micro-batteries he ordered for my magnifying glass. At first look West End Hardware might seem like one of those mom and pop shops that will likely cost you way more than it should for the sake of convenience, but happily, that isn't the case. Little more than a sliver of a shop in a very residential neighbourhood, this place somehow always has what you need and at prices that make you think they must own the building. The staff is good with a nice blend of knowledge and in a store this small the service Has to be good (unless of course, they own the building). This narrow, two aisle store somehow finds the space for most everything you could want from a hardware store. As for the paint side, I've never indulged, but I'm guessing they have some nice colours at fair prices. read more

This store is a saviour to me,it is next door to where i live.I do renovations etc and it has pretty much everything i need and if they dont have it they will order the product for you.The staff are very friendly and helpful,the prices are a little high but reasonable.The assortment of items is amazing for a small store and I find it a great store for your everyday hardware shopping. read more

What ever happened to the days when every community had a little grocery store, a hardware store, a cafe etc. Well all you have to do is hit the 800 block of Bidwell to get that neighbourhood feel again. Next to Aria Market (see that review) lies a quaint little hardware store. Whatever you need, you can probably find here. I've picked up a watering can, propane tank, caulking gun, paint... Home Depot barely registers now. And don't forget to pet the owners awesome dog Chayenne. She's a sweety and can be found in the store or catching some rays on the sidewalk. read more

Great neighbourhood business! Very good selection at very good prices. They saved me so many trips to Home Depot! The guys working there are very knowledgeable and always do their best to help you. If they don't have a certain item, they will either order it in or tell you where to find it. They do key cutting too, which is great. They even cut me a new key when my old one broke in half! I didn't even know that was possible. Saved me some $$ for not having to call a locksmith. read more

It's a convenient place in the West End to get a few items you might need instead of driving to Home Depot. But you should know exactly what you want and not have any questions that require assistance. I've been there 3 times over the past 6 months and each time I have asked for recommendations between product A and B and the advice is so off the mark. I needed waterproof heavy duty tape yesterday and the product recommended to me didn't even stick to my outdoor bannister. I had to use regular scotch tape in addition to what I bought. I needed Command hooks another time and the ones I was told were stronger than Commend hooks kept falling off every 3-4 days (used indoors only). read more

Love this little Hardware Store tucked away in the wonderful downtown West End. We have been going there for years - we have bought all our paint there to paint our apartment and the owner, Bruce, is fully capable and qualified to mix paints. This shop has everything you need - nothing nicer than NOT having to drive or take transit when you need Paints and Hardware. It's all right here in your back yard. I fully recommend this shop. Bruce and his business partner are great to deal with. Super well stocked little shop. The owners dog Xian (Sian) is an absolute darling and so friendly. Love spending time in there. read more
