They referred us to the Kia dealer, which I knew would be very expensive. So I did some research online and found Franklynn Automotive. I called and described the situation to Steve. He said they likely can handle it, but would start with a complimentary second opinion. After their inspection, they determined that the hose does not need to be replaced and we only needed to refresh the refrigerant, which they do have the equipment for. In addition, the reason the other shop might have suggested the hose replacement was because of a leak related to the axel. All in, the repairs would be substantially less than the dealer quote for work that may not have been needed in the first place. Overall, great experience with Franklynn.

He was the reason I wanted to get the suspension serviced here as his explanation of what I needed done showed his mastery of his craft. However after taking the car to Tesla to get a 2nd opinion I discovered that this shop (not the tech) was trying to charge me literally a 200% markup on the parts to do the repair. Crazy right!!! The genuine Tesla parts for the repair were $209 and these guys quoted those same parts out to $614 (I sent him the estimate from Tesla with the exact cost of the parts). Unfortunately for me Tesla wouldn't work on the car because of an aftermarket body kit the previous owner had installed. I really liked the mechanic at this shop, so I went back to this shop with the intention to move forward even though their cost was literally 56% more ($1,635 vs $2,555) then Tesla for the same work (because of the price gouging on the parts). Then when I asked about it before my approval to move forward the manager got snarky and said how would you expect us to stay in business if we don't markup the parts. I said and I quote "I get a markup on the parts and your high hourly rate for the labor on the work but not a 200% markup on the parts." The guy gave an excuse about the software they use but was unwilling to budge on the price gouging. I literally said why don't you let me buy the parts directly from Tesla and you can still mark them up 25% and he still said no. I was completely professional throughout the conversation, but obviously would not pay a 200% markup on parts on top of the already top of market labor they charge. After the conversation he texted me back and we agreed to not move forward. I only leave this review to warn others. It's a bad business practice to over charge people like that and so I just wanted to give people my story warning them to watch out and be careful before doing any work here. Update: this slime ball's disclosure of all the information I gave his manager, Steve, in good faith is abhorrent. Everything he mentioned on the car was told to them right up front as I told it to the manager, Steve, in person and this clown is repeating word for word what I told his manager. I was cool with this at first but this guy is a complete scum bag now using my own words and lying about it. Anyways besides being a scum bag, no effort at all was made regarding the parts and this shops 200% markup. I literally told the guy running the shop I would buy the parts myself and let them mark it up 25% and still the answer was a quick no. Everything I said was honest and accurate and don't appreciate this guy claiming transparency when his long shpeel was essentially just a my own words complaining about the car I bought and his shops poor excuse for price gauging. They could have done the job without gauging me on the price given I had the option to buy the parts myself. Not cool at all the response from this guy and his piss poor excuse for attempting to rip me off.

Jonathan, one of the ASE Master certified techs, called me back into their bay to show me that my tie rods were tight, but there was a critical issue with my ball joints and control arms. After they promptly called around for the correct parts, and price matched a few things for me, I was offered a ride home by Mark, who wasn't even supposed to be at work that day. I picked up my car that evening, and both of the techs explained in detail a few other issues that they had seen while working on the car, but said none of the issues needed immediate attention. As I was driving home, I noticed the clunk was still present, and called Jonathan to ask why. He said it was possible (as they explained to me upon picking up my car) that it was due to a totally separate loose part. Our conversation ended kinda abruptly, and I hung up feeling a little defeated, since the issue I brought the car in for was still present. Within a few minutes, Jonathan called me back, saying "hey, sorry we ended the call so quickly, I was stuck under a car." He asked if I would like to bring my car back that night and have him test drive it with me so he could hear what I was talking about. I was pretty shocked at this, he was already working late. I asked if I could bring it back tomorrow, and he said of course, which I did. They did some extra work (for free) to eliminate the likelihood of what the clunk could be, test drove it with me, put my car back to stock, and reassured me it wasn't anything crucial that needed to be addressed right away. It's great when a business gets a great review for a flawless experience, but I think it says more about a place when a situation arises that isn't perfect. I was exceedingly impressed with the character of both Tom and Jonathan that was displayed through the whole process. They clearly care about doing the right thing. They have nothing but patience and understanding for their customers. The entire time, their level of expertise was evident. And I feel total confidence leaving my car with them again, especially after the way everything was handled. I will definitely be back.

Lucky us and thank you Jeep. 2 almost 3 year old battery. Gary's worked with me to do battery testing instead of the whole battery of diagnostics Aux battery load testing was good but the impedance was low. Replaced and they checked a lot of other things. Giving me statuses and explanations and meaning all along the way in troubleshooting. That kind of communication instills trust and I appreciate it a lot!! Any ways the pricing was and no further errors. We'll give it a couple days for a wait and see. We have next steps for the other work that's needed. I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this auto repair shop!!

I've been going to Joe and Kerstin for awhile for my 2014 Chevy Equinox, which has been a…read morerelatively solid car despite the model's notorious problems (burning oil, especially). They recently checked out the car before I had a road trip and gave me a couple of "yellow flags" that could wait awhile but said I should be good to go, including my brake pads. My sister was driving the car into Santa Fe when she said the car was shuddering when she braked. Worried we were about to have something really bad happen, I pulled into a local place. Welllll...they totally swindled me: new pads, warped rotors, a torn boot, all sorts of stuff. The car was about to fall apart and strand us in the desert, clearly. Eager to move on to my next destination and not be stuck, I reluctantly gave them my credit card. I texted with Kerstin and let her know what happened. She called me back right away and explained in no uncertain terms that I was to go find a second opinion and not pay for anything (whoops, too late...I guess it's a norm at a mechanics not to pay for anything up front, unspoken rule). She checked with Joe about the recent diagnostic and talked me through the possibilities of what was actually happening with my car and supported me going up there and requesting a refund and only paying for what had been completed (new brake pads and rotors in back, still a ripoff for probably fine rotors and pads that were at 3.5mm but a more doable one). Yes, I felt like an idiot. Yes, initially they refused the refund and "had to call corporate", blah blah blah. But I probably saved $1700 in the process. Then, Kerstin stuck with me for doing basic troubleshooting for the shuddering. Joe proposed that it could be "bad gas", at one of the random stations we'd stopped at. He said that we could test filling up the balance of the tank with high octane Maverick gas (no ethanol). Would you believe that did the trick? All the car's symptom's disappeared (turned out it hadn't been shuddering upon brake, just shuddering in general). I completed my road trip without any issues and soon after went back to Gary's for a different test (discussed awhile back before all this went down for my aging car). They double checked the shady mechanic's work and said that they saw very little that needed addressing, and certainly nothing in the thousands. The car has driven fine since then. Anyway, highly recommend Gary's. They stand by their work!

A couple of weeks later, McDonald VW completed some recall work on the car and reported that the transmission was leaking. They recommended that XYZ be done to the car. I quickly called Platinum Auto, and Trent immediately offered to have me bring the car back in so they could put it back on the lift and inspect it. I brought the car in, and they immediately put it on the lift for inspection. They quickly alleviated my concerns when they told me the transmission wasn't leaking at all. Trent even took the time to watch the video McDonald sent me and almost laughed at what they were trying to claim was a transmission leak. I will certainly continue to come back.
