At Ruskin Bait you actually get what you pay for. We have been going to Ruskin Bait and Tackle for nearly 20 years, since we moved to the South Shore and couldn't be more thankful to have such a great bait shop so close to home!

Even if that were the case, why not take the time to make sure someone new does understand the rules instead of being obnoxious about it? Also, considering multiple people on Yelp have said the same thing as I do, that your business tolerates staff being rude to customers, maybe you should look at your staff instead of blaming new customers. Most ranges I've been to go out of their way to make new female shooters feel welcomed. Sadly, not so of your range. Your range and "range officers" were hostile and i can only attribute that to misogynist views. His hostile behavior and reaction towards a new female shooter were completely inexcusable. I don't experience that anywhere else. And I will also point out that here on Yelp there are far more honest reviews about the attitude of your range officers and staff. It is also reflected in their customers...I sent my son on a mission to get some bionic chum and sardines. A gentleman before him purchased a ton just as my son arrived. As the customer left, he came back in and asked my son if he had ruined his fishing trip because of he bought so much and that he'd return some if needed. Lucky no we were looking for other things. My point being, good environment breeds that kind of interaction. They always remember me as I bring in my soft side to collect frozen bait. We were visiting from out of town and were asking for some insight about public fishing locations in the area. We were fully aware of needing a license before hand and of the vast amounts of private lakes and ponds nearby. The gentleman at the front desk was less than ideal with his assistance in our search for a place to casually catch and release all while condescendingly stating the risks we would be taking if we were to fish without a license. When inquiring where we could purchase a license he said, "Up at Walmart," while pointing in no particular direction or following up with any specific directions. I understand that any good fisherman doesn't like to give up his/her great hidden fishing spots, but he didn't even lead us to a public park with a lake.

They helped us find the right car rack for our paddle boards and even installed it for us for free! If you want a top notch fishing experience, this is the guy that you need to go with. Captain…read moreJared is a local born and raised and knows the area like the back of his hand. We went on a 8 hours excursion with my son and dad and it was an experience of a lifetime. Capt Jared talked us through what kind of fishing we would be doing and where we would go. He had a loose plan for the day, based on the tides, weather, etc. We were not disappointed. We were on fish within 10 minutes of leaving the dock, and it really didn't stop all day. We fished docks early, then some oyster beds, small islands, then out to some reefs, the sand key jetty, then back to docks to finish up. We caught some of everything (black drum, sheepshead, a flounder!, red fish, mangrove snapper, a shark, snook, and trout). Many were not keepers, but we did pretty well. I think we took home 11 keepers, after catching about 50 fish (we kind of lost count). If we didn't have any luck in a spot, we moved on pretty quickly. He seemed to know the patterns intimately. He was such a good guide. He truly wants people of have a great fishing experience. He was disappointed that he couldn't have gotten us more fish (he highly recommends the spring season). We were happy with our experience. NOTE: If you are staying local, there is a place in Ozone (Molly Goodheads) that will prepare your fish.
