The West Oak Coffee Bar... love how I feel when I'm visiting this downtown area. Downtown Denton is such a hip area in the most unique way. Walking into this coffee shop (ahem... bar) gives me the "I'm going whiskey tasting" vibes. It's most likely due to the warm and woodsy, oaky tones of this venue's design. The menu offers carefully crafted caffeinated goodness. I am addicted to the chai sbagliato and seriously haven't opted to try any other drinks. BTW, ordering the "chai sbagliato" in Hermione Granger's accent seems so fitting LOL I pair this liquid gold with the cranberry cookie and voila - the Prosecco and cranberry flavors just blooms in your mouth. read more

Hit or miss in the food department. I don't doubt their coffee offerings but I didn't not try them. The vegan sausage turnover is quite surprising in it's ability to taste buttery, meaty, and cheesy whole it's labeled vegan. Their oven heats the outside with a delicate flaky crust, but the center most piece of vegan sausage could have been more warm. It certainly was not cold but it wasn't hot. The peach breakfast cobbler has a lot more dough then filling. I wish there was a more pronounced peach and cinnamon taste. When I will say though, is that it's not overbearing. I never felt like I was going into a food coma eating it. For that, this actually works for any occasion, whether it be truly a breakfast item, tea time snack, or just as a dessert. The gluten free kitchen sink cookies were delicious! While the cookie texture was much more dense than I would like, the flavors of the peanut butter, chocolate, salt, potato chips l, and oats all come together like a boisterous crescendo of a symphonic ending. read more

The iced blueberry latte is a must try here! Really anything with the blueberry syrup will taste like a liquid blueberry muffin. Their latte is on the pricey side from my experience, ringing in around $7. West Oak excels in their ambiance and workspaces. They fill up quickly, so make your stake early. This place makes me so sad I'm only passing through! The vibe is perfect for studying, catching up with a friend, or just sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee. The coffee itself is delicious - I got an iced blueberry and lavender latte with oatmilk, and the syrups and espresso were absolutely perfect. It's very clear that the baristas are trained to a professional degree in the way they prepare coffee, including how in-house drinks are poured with designs (I snagged a picture of an in-house matcha to prove it), and they were all so friendly to me the entire time. I fully intend to come back the next time I'm in Denton. My only complaint is that the coffee is a touch expensive, but I would argue that the price is absolutely worth it. read more

I got the nitro cold brew which was strong, kind of bitter but in a good way, and I really enjoyed it! Came here because I read amazing reviews, I was sadly disappointed. I ordered a blueberry hibiscus tea and was so excited for it since I'm an avid tea drinker. When I received it I got absolutely no warning of how hot it was. Obviously I expect a hot tea to be hot, but this was undrinkable and honestly a hazard. When I went to take a sip I had waited a few minutes for it to cool down and even blew some air in it but I still got a 3rd degree burn on my tongue. I haven't been able to eat anything without my tongue being in extreme pain and it's starting to blister. I think that servers should always and I mean ALWAYS warn the customer(s) if a drink is insanely hot. Even when I go to Starbucks they warn me whenever my drink is hot!!! Can't forget to mention that my cup was even falling apart from the immense amount of heat!!!! Will never be returning again. This is a warning for anyone who is planning to go get ready to have no taste buds!!!! I also got harassed by a man and no one did anything about it. Crazy times. read more

The food is typically fair. Not my favorite coffee in town but some of their brunch and lunch options are good. Service is good given how busy and poorly arranged this place is. Ambiance is pretty overwhelming when busy, as there's very limited seating, always tons of people, and the "pickup counter" coffee delivery leads to crowds of people standing everywhere. read more

In the 4 years I've been in Denton I haven't actually gotten to try this place till now. I got an iced chai latte and it did not disappoint. The chai was so prevalent and visible and it just made the drink so good. The only thing was that I said light ice which I guess meant only filling the cup 3/4ths full. Another think about this place is that there's never any seating. It is literally always full so there's no way you to have a spot to study at. read more

Took the day off from work and decided to spend the day in Denton. Not sure if I've ever been to this cozy North Texas municipality. For quite some time, a few years to be honest, I've been wanting to cross this visit off my bucket list. After eating at J&J Pizza, shopping at Recycled Books, and visiting the courthouse, I wanted to top off the excursion with an El Salvadoran drip coffee at West Oak Coffee. Upon ordering, I mentioned this was my first time in here. They were super-excited about it; in fact, they satisfied my plethora of questions, such as: country of origin on the beans and how they are roasted. The coffee recommended was superb, and I will definitely get a refill on my way out. Of course don't settle for the drip alone.
