We signed a contract for a construction project located at our primary property on May 6, 2024 with…read moreCarolina Contracting and Investment, Inc. The contract was signed with Glenn Wise located at 1632 Village Harbor Dr., Lake Wylie, SC. 28710. The project was to remove the roof of the 3-car detached garage extend the 3-car garage to six car garage and build a 2-bedroom 2 bath above the detached garage. Once the contract was signed by Mr. Wise, he turned over the construction of the project to Andrew Neweth, project manager and Art Regnier, supervisor. There were several problems with the construction project: The electrical for the detached project was to run through our Primary Dwelling, which already existed. We were told by Carolina Contracting that the county would not approve. However, the county did approve, but the concrete contractor had already poured the garage floor. This did not allow the placement of electrical in the detached garage. This was additional project cost to owner. The next issue was that the patio door was to be 12 foot wide but the Project Manager ordered and installed a 9 foot. The master bath was to have a walk- in tub. The framer was not told by contractor and framing was installed and installing of walk-in tub could not done. The front of the original detached garage was removed and the existing brick was cleaned of mortar and placed in yard. I asked the brick contractor why they did not use the removed cleaned brick. The contactor indicated that he was not told to install the brick. This was a cost to the owner for cleaning of brick. The biggest concern is the exterior brick that was installed. I had raised the concern back in January 2025. The brick ordered was manufactured by Triangle brick. The name that was ordered was Southampton. The original supply of brick was correct. The brick contractor ordered a second delivery of brick; however, it did not match the first supply of brick. He ordered a third order of brick, but again that supply did not match the original order. The brick contractor had the original order and the third order removed from property and used the Second order to complete project. The brick contractor was insisting that the brick would be a closer match after being pressure washed. There was a brick stainer that came out to our property several times to stain the brick. This process did not work and I was not satisfied with results. A contact from Carolina Brick and Material, brick supplier, came out to the property and asked how did the stainer perform his work. After we talked, he indicated that the end result was not acceptable. The color of the detached structure is lighter than the Primary dwelling. This looks bad and does not match the original structure. We were told by Glenn Wise that there would not use the contractors for Electrical, Plumbing and Concrete/block in future. The overall project was far from acceptable. There was no supervision from Glenn Wise, Andrew and Art. We would NOT hire Carolina Contractor and Investment again

I had a disappointing experience with Carolina Contracting & Investments Inc. While they were not…read morethe lowest-priced option, I moved forward expecting a higher level of service and project management. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. The project timeline extended well beyond what was originally communicated, with little proactive communication or clarity around delays. Overall coordination felt lacking, and the project did not appear to be effectively managed from start to finish. One of my primary concerns was that the individual acting as the project manager was actually the company's Marketing & Business Development Director, and this was reportedly her first time managing a project. As a result, several important details were overlooked throughout the process. After the project was completed, I was also contacted directly by one of their subcontractors stating they had not been paid for their work. This was concerning and added to my overall lack of confidence in how the project was handled behind the scenes. Additionally, there were professionalism concerns during the project. The individual I understood to be the superintendent (Art) frequently arrived at my home with a noticeable odor of alcohol, which was uncomfortable and raised concerns. Based on my experience, I would recommend that others proceed with caution and ask detailed questions about project management structure, communication expectations, and subcontractor handling before moving forward.

The big thing to fix before we moved in, was demolishing the old, impractical closet shelving and organizing (to replace with new). Because it all happened far faster than expected, we found ourselves needing contractor help in a hurry to get a large walk-in closet and four other bedroom closets demolished, patched, and painted. I went on Yelp, found CHS were top rated, and sent them a message. Bill and his team at CHS replied within 24 hours to our first inquiry. We exchanged texts with photos and questions and got and accepted a quote within a day. They were in our house three days later and got the job done two days after that. They stripped the floor to ceiling old shelves, patched and repainted the walls, fixed the hardwood floors and left everything completely clean. From first Yelp search to finished job, one week. Their estimate was in the middle of the 3 we received, but $2,000 higher than the roofing company we hired to install our new roof. When I texted Rhett to tell him we had gone with a roofing company whose estimate was more budget friendly for us, within moments I received a hard sell text telling me how the brand of shingles they used were far superior to any other brand of shingles out there and that I needed to consider that in making my decision. Believe me since this was the first new roof on my house in 25+ years I did my research on shingle brands and didn't choose a roofing company using some bargain basement brand of shingles! That $2,000 we saved is now more money that we are able to spend on other needed house projects.

I responded in surprise so what what is your 90% ballpark estimate as we discussed (understanding minor adjustments and design changes can change cost as well as materials prices). His response was 30k so I asked he email me it as we discussed to confirm the size and design and again he said I don't do that and if you want to move forward we can get more detailed. I asked him directly " am I detecting an attitude in your responses as my desire is to make sure we are on the same page. If I can't get the estimating person to provide a basic estimate to build off with out a tone that I should just agree and hand him my cash is unacceptable. A basic estimate would have taken him maybe 15 minutes and would lay out timelines, payment schedule and clarification on what the 30k provides is not to much to expect. Under no conditions would I agree to any work where I get a fraction of my desires addressed / confirmed understanding and then be spoken to like "agree to us doing it then we can address your questions with a condescending tone. I thanked him and walked him to his vehicle. I called the office and explained my dissatisfaction and refuse to use a company that the sales person can not keep his frustration in check and forgot I am the one paying for the project and not some guy on the street that was interfering with his day. Attitude and respect sets the stage and if providing a quote is an annoyance, then don't advertise a free quote (perhaps the old saying you you get what you pay for is true, I paid noting and got my money's worth). This is the first time we seriously considered terminating a contractor mid-project. Communication was consistently poor, the project schedule and material ordering were severely mismanaged, and the crew showed up only six days over an almost two month period in the summer when the majority of work should have been completed, contributing to turning what should have been a three month job into a six month project. Job-site cleanup was not maintained, significant errors were made, and there was resistance and defensiveness when those mistakes needed to be corrected. Rather than taking accountability, the company disputed issues that were clearly the result of their own lack of oversight and execution. Overall, the level of service, organization, and workmanship fell far below what we've experienced with other contractors and what you would expect at this price point.

Owning property is never a dull moment!…read more During a heavy storm, the tenant in my loft let me know that there was water dripping inside along the wall. The age of the roofs on the property is unknown and always being concerned for ANY leaks, I immediately got into Yelp to put out a project request to find a roofer. Storm Damage responded right away on a Sunday and was able to meet the next day to give an onsite estimate. Given the steep roofline of the barn house style roofing and immediate need given another upcoming storm, the quote was definitely reasonable. Given the short notice and upcoming weather, they put a tarp across the roof to prevent anymore leaking. At the first break in the weather 2 days later, they were on it and got to work. It's a tight area around the unit, so giving a heads up to my neighbors was important. That said, they cleaned up all debris on my side and my neighbors as if they were never there! Huge!!! I have a roof on the main property and a permanent shed left to do. I will be sure to call them back for the next jobs. Thank you guys!!!
