This place is just incredible. They have everything you will need if you are camping or hiking/playing in the area. Groceries, pastries, cheese, sandwiches (lunch or breakfast). A tremendous beer selection as well as some cider N/A beer and wine too. Very friendly people working there, and family-owned. We stopped in every day to snag some last minute items for the day. Reasonable pricing and fresh local in season fruits and vegetables. read more

This was such a cool place! A step back in time, but the owners are doing a great job of keeping their business alive and relevant. We were on our way to a hike, and wanted to get a lunch to take with us. We went to the deli counter and ordered two sandwiches, I think they were called "beast style" or something, they were humongous! We ended up sharing one meatball sandwich for lunch, and couldn't finish it between the two of us, and had a leftover Italian sandwich that we ended up eating for dinner that night. These guys have one of the best craft beer selections around. The owner has a good feel for selecting good local, State brews and give great advice when asked. We come up to VT two , three times a year and I always make a point of stopping at West River and picking up a case to take home. PS get a donut while your there or a sandwich, they are great. read more

I've been going to this store for many years, and its changed owners and names a few times. But the most recent owners (Tara and Forrest) have really stepped it up and have expanded the selection of products and foods. They have lots of cool stuff, and the atmosphere is just awesome. Love going in there for breakfast sandwiches, coffee and fresh pastries, but i always find some other delicious items. I also really appreciate that the prices are fair, and they are not just catering to tourists. This is a place where the locals go to hang out. read more

Stopped here several times while camping at Jamaica State Park. They had an amazing selection of fresh produce, cheese, meats, bread, and beer. We are well while we were camping, that's for sure. They've retained a lot of the character of the original store, but the new owners made some needed improvements. Don't miss the in-house baked goods from Skinny Goose. We rented a house around the corner for the winter so that the kids could ski and snowboard at Stratton every weekend. They love the skiing/boarding and instruction they're getting at Stratton but I believe WRP is going to be the highlight of the winter for them. Croissants, homemade pretzels and amazing bread (as well as a big Haribo gummy selection) have them asking me every morning when they can go to the market. I begrudgingly allow them to go, but I'm just as fired up for fantastic breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well as an incredible beer cooler. As a grocery it has more than you'd imagine and the prices are inline, or lower, than we'd pay at Whole Foods in Boston for similar items. Also, a coffee when you bring your own cup is an even dollar. I can't remember the last time I paid a dollar for anything. read more

I suspect the new name indicates a change in ownership. I've been to this store several times over the years of camping at the state park, & it was always good, reliable, friendly. But yesterday -- Sun. 8/22 -- we ordered b'fast sandwiches. Mine came with sausage that was literally burnt to a thin crisp. I was already driving away (trying to beat the incoming storm) & didn't have time to turn around. Additional minor detail -- the cashier extolled the terrific, locally-made donuts on display. We bought one & soon learned that the cashier failed to mention the baked goods were day-old+.   We love Vermont, having both gone to school there. It's VERY rare that we have an experience like this. Perhaps it is due to the labor shortages all over. We'll try again next time. read more

I love this place. All types of Vermont made goodness for sale.

My family was up visiting and bought delicious take out dinners for Friday and Saturday night. The braised beef was melt in your mouth delectable. I mopped up every bit of the stuffed chicken with arugula and turnip purée with some homemade GF sourdough. We were very grateful that both meals were made gluten free. The staff were lovely as well. Who expects a great dinner in the middle of a move? We went to pick up pizza on Wednesday night. We ordered the large and we chose the "special." Wow! It was so tasty! We got two meals out of it for the two of us. We are so thrilled that this place is less than 15 min from our new home. We will be regulars. Tara and Forrest the owners ( hope I got names and spelling correct) are the best! There is pretty much what we need here. We are going to be among the many 'regulars" whom we have met while at the store. I have been going to this store for over 15 years and the new owners have striven to make their mark on this community. They are always doing little daily specials so if you want a unique VT experience pop on in! Not to mention - the beer selection is incredible. If you're staying in town or if you're driving through Jamaica, this place is a little gem that carries nearly anything anyone could ever need. I feel as though you could walk in and ask for '57 Chevy hub caps, and the owners/staff would diligently check every corner and come back with "we have '56s if that's okay?" (Ok, I exaggerate a tad :) ). To hit the highest notes: if they have any left, scoop up anything by the local baking queen, Skinny Goose. From shortbread to a loaf of German rye to cherry danishes, you will be in for a huge treat. The craft beer selection, particularly local and New England brews, is beyond brilliant. If you're in town on a Wednesday evening call ahead to order a delicious wood oven pizza. I am disappointed to see some naysayer reviews regarding the shoppe's previous owners. Every family and friend members working behind the counters here have been nothing short of friendly and kind each and every time. Speaking of all of those times... the upside of Covid summer 2021 is that I had the opportunity to work remotely and found a great short term rental for a month+ in this quaint town; a walk and shop to West River Provisions was genuinely a highlight I looked forward to each and every day. read more
