Like another reviewer, a dealer printed me out a fancy sheet telling me I need new brake pads, and to replace and machine my rotors at (of course) a dealership price. Why would I need to machine rotors if I'm replacing them? With only 60k miles on the car, none of this felt right other than brake pad replacement. I called West Seattle Brake based on the reviews. John explained a lot over the phone and I felt sure I was in good hands. Ultimately took my 4Runner there yesterday and had brake pads replaced and rotors turned at a fair price. Last year I went to Les Schwab and just wanted my tires rotated. But ended up spending $600 cause they said my rear brakes were almost out. Since I was there and they said it would be 2 hours, I figured okay. :( Now my front brakes are starting to squeak a little. After reading the Yelp reviews about this place, I gave John a call and made an appointment. He took a look at my brakes and showed me how much I have left. He said I have about 20k more to go and he didn't want me to change it right now cause it's money going down the drain. He didn't charge me anything for his time. He's prices are low. He said it would be $250 to have the brakes replaced. What a great deal! I asked if he does any other services. He only does brakes and steering. He even referred me to another shop down the street and said to go there instead of the other national chain stores. He said that shop is one that he trusts and family owned. They won't over charge you like the other chain shops that work on commission and sales. He is a one man shop, old school and with such integrity! Such as nice guy! It's very hard to find businesses in the automotive industry that are honest like him. I HIGHLY recommend this place if you need your brakes checked out or repaired. Had a dealer tell me my back brakes were in imminent danger of failing and continuing to drive was a risk I shouldn't take. They would replace them for 800+ dollars. I panicked. In fact, he informed me that (in his words) "I know as little as you do about what is underneath the hood of a car, but I know brakes." I was told that I would need the rotors resurfaced and brakes replaced. I was quoted $250. That was $100.00 less then what the Toyota dealership quoted me. I originally went to another auto shop near by because my car was making a squeaky noise. They told me it was my front brakes and I needed new calipers, rotors and break pads. I called Jon at West Seattle Brake Service, he offered a free estimate in person, after checking it out; he admitted that I only needed 1 rotor and 2 pads. Honest and didn't do unnecessary work. Amazing! First time visit recommended to me by another shop that does not deal with resurfacing Rotors. They did the work in two hours, a very good price for resurfacing. So no trying to tell us the rotors need replacing, just did the work and also treated my wife who brought our vehicle in very well.
