I was just thinking about this I can't believe this guy is still here and still going. He does the best work of anybody I have ever seen in the New Orleans area. When it comes to service saying your electronic equipment or replacing drivers in an empty basket or blown speaker drivers don't go anywhere else this guy does factory work. He's absolutely incredible I don't know how old he is now but when I used to do business with him I was like 22 years old. Called and talked to Tom about a potential repair on my Fishman mini acoustic amp. I mentioned to him to please let me know what the anticipated cost estimate would be in case I decided to just purchase one new for $300. I had read previous reviews so I was hesitant and made a point to mention this to him. He assured me that he wouldn't be in business for 30 years if he didn't know the drill. Next time I hear from him, the amp is all fixed and the price is $235, less the $35 "deposit" which I paid to drop it off. I'd have rather bought a brand new amp for $65 more dollars and he never gave me the option to do this after promising he would. Pam played dumb in the shop and said he never gives out estimates and she was sure of what he told me. So now they get this 1 star review. I wanted to like them but I thought this was unprofessional and very overpriced repair relative to the value of the amp. A repair should not be well over half the value of a used piece of equipment... its as if he charged me the absolute most he knew he could get out of me while holding my amp hostage. Whatever you do DO NOT take any tape machine you care about here. Although Tom is reasonably adept at repairing some electronic devices, he took over $1,000 from me to "repair" my 4-track cassette recorder and my Tascam 38 multitrack, and both of them still had the same malfunctions/issues as they did before he "fixed" them. And I got yelled at to boot. Unfortunately there are few to no other options for this type of service here in N.O.L.A. but I will never bring my business here again. Fraud!! Bought what I was told was a pair of Yamaha 18 pro subs with new Yamaha OEM drivers from this company. When one sub blew after very light use I disassembled it and found that both had $50 car speakers installed. Owner would not replace the speakers and said that he had told me that the drivers were car speakers. He knew I planned to use for commercial use. What a liar!! Beware!! read more

* See my review of McCann electronics before making the mistake of bringing your A/V equipment there instead of Westbank Audio Services. I own a 5+ year old Onkyo home theater receiver. When the LCD display panel went out I was hoping to see if it could be inexpensively repaired before deciding to purchase a new receiver. After speaking with McCann Electronics in Metairie and being told about their outrageous diagnostic fee, I luckily found Westbank Audio on Google. The wife (husband/wife owned business) answered the phone and explained their $21 diagnostic fee which is applied to the cost of the repair if you decide to have the equipment repaired. For $21 it is worth the risk. I checked in a few days after dropping off the receiver and the owner explained that it was a bad chip in the main board and that he could try to replace it for $300. If that didn't work he would have to replace the entire main board for $350. He said he was working late and if we decided to have it repaired he would start working on it then (I believe it was after 7pm on a Friday) and that he would test the repair over the weekend. We decided not to have the equipment repaired since at that price and considering the age of the receiver it makes more sense to purchase a new one. I would have given 4 stars to Westbank Audio but after picking up the Onkyo and plugging it back in at home, the LCD screen magically worked. Not sure if he went ahead and fixed it before asking us and then couldn't charge or if whatever he did while diagnosing the problem somehow made the screen start working again. All I know is that for $21, a $300 to $350 problem is solved. P.S. I will never purchase an Onkyo product again. The LCD screen was a known problem on this model and when Onkyo customer service was contacted they were rude and insulting. read more

Great service on my vintage Marantz. He cleaned, recapped and installed new bulbs. It sounds great, and the price was very reasonable. $21 cash up front fee to diagnose. That money goes towards the cost of repairs if you choose to have him fix it. Just beware, no credit cards and no checks. The repairs were done much more quickly than I expected, and it sounds great. I highly recommend it for any vintage audio gear. read more

I read all of the reviews and decided to give this place a try. Our TV stopped working after a storm. We dropped off our 55 inch LG flatscreen for repair and paid the $21 diagnostic fee. The owner called back within the next hour and said that he had it working. WOW that was fast. So I said how much.. he said that I needed a new powerboard and that it was $269 with the additional labor total would be $350. I said no thank you, I see brand new TVs, not LG brand, for that price. He then offered me $100 for the TV, no thank you. We went back to get the TV which they were watching in the shop. There was a powerboard sitting in front of our TV about 1 foot long, which he said was ours and that he needed to take his out so come back in an hour. We came back got the TV, took it somewhere else a few days later for a second quote. When they opened the TV THERE WAS NO POWERBOARD and NO SCREWS. I was pissed, I called the guy back and he said let me check, oh yes I see it, it must have been a mistake, yeah sure. We went back and when he gave us our powerboard it looked nothing like the one he had shown us before, our board was at least 2-3 feet. The other guy in Kenner fixed it for MUCH MUCH CHEAPER and the powerboards for our brand range between $40-70 dollars not $269. I will NEVER go here again. Fraud and overpriced! read more
