Two sheets of ice at this rink, with some time for hockey and figure skating with the Westchester Figure Skating Club. Ice quality, though, could use some work. Not very smooth per the skaters coming off that were more advanced. The beginner coaches here are very friendly, per some of the other parents, otherwise kids are coming for the freestyle practice sessions ($25) - you can pay online or in-person (though that's slower). The two sheets are the American and Canadian ice sheets. The main lobby has some wooden benches for skaters to put on gear, but if you want a table to work as an adult, go upstairs to the "cafe-ish" and viewing areas over the rinks (which is nice). Need a few more outlets, but you can find a few to charge up your phones/laptops. read more

The Westchester Skating Academy is the premier ice skating and hockey rink facility in the Westchester area. In addition to two full sized hockey rinks and skate rentals, it has a hockey and skate shop inside, and a lounge and snack bar upstairs known as Snackish. Snackish Cafe & Grill includes wholesome breakfast, lunch and snacking fare, and specialties like soups to warm you up when you're getting off the ice. I love the hot chocolate with marshmallows, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup with some brown sugar pop-tarts to warm me up and satisfy my sweet tooth. There is inadequate supervision especially with young children. I enrolled 2 children under 5, and observed incidences which were unsafe . I was intentionally assaulted on the ice at this rink, instigated by staff, and management did nothing. Long story short, the newest skate guard, a kid named Ben, was upset that I asked him to check with his manager about rules on a public session (i was right), so he asked his girl friend to PUSH ME in retaliation. It is on the security cameras. To let them know about safety concerns, I emailed and called the manager Bridget, but she ignored me insisting this was an "accident" and intentionally tried to hide the evidence instead of holding the kid responsible. I realized it was because she was friendly with Ben and did not care about customer safety. Other supervisors were also making fun of me for being upset about being pushed. Yes, PUSHED. ON ICE. Instigated by the STAFF. Of course, there are a few amazing staff and coaches who work there, but unfortunately its mismanaged by bad apples. This could be a wonderful community facility but unfortunately it's dangerously run by children. I would not let my own kids go there. read more

This place is a joke. We paid almost $1000 for spring hockey. To begin with no one shows up. Every week they're moving kids from one team to the next to even up the sides and get at least five per, since at least one team doesn't even have one full line. Once we started a game with one goalie. On top of that they only play 12 minute periods. My player hasn't had a 12 minute period since he was 9 or 10 years old. Maybe if they were a bit more organized there'd be time for 15 minute periods. Aaaand if you score 3 goals they force you to stop shooting so you don't score again (never in my life). And for fook sake fix the damn fountain. The filter has been clogged since March. If your player is serious about hockey don't bring them here. read more

It's a good place to begin... but, strictly recreational. Leagues are not advanced, most instructors are not great... the ones that are good/excellent might be temperamental enough to tell your kid to go elsewhere for one reason or another. Will likely never return. read more

Went to do stick and puck for $24. When I got there, they had sectioned off 2/3 of the rink for 4 kids for semi-private lessons. The other 1/3 had about 30 people using it. So if you want to spend $24 to use 1/3 of the rink with 30 other people, then this is the rink for you. I got a refund which is great but ended up wasting a hour and a half of my time. WSC needs to seriously reassess its general business practices. read more

I attempted to book a group event and after speaking with Bridget Donohue in Guest Services I will NEVER be using this venue ever!! She was very condescending, and I can tell she was annoyed that she was being asked to look up a date and inquire about details for the person who was on vacation with no coverage. One realizes what a gift this place is when one has been to the rest of the rinks in the area. My son plays travel hockey and started his career at WSA. Not knowing any better, I wasn't impressed by the place. Then I get a glimpse of the rest of the rinks in the area! Most are dumps with no indoor heating, seating, food or drink service. WSA is not fancy, but as a parent who spends countless hours at strange hours of the day and night in rinks, I am happy when I see a game on his schedule at WSA, at least I can sit in a warm comfortable seat, get decent food, even a beer, and watch the kids play. read more

A nice facility with two rinks. One rink has stands for people to sit and watch hockey games, the other just has a few benches that you can sit on and watch from the side. There is plenty of parking outside and a nice spacious and clean lobby. Upstairs there is food vendor, video games, and plenty of seat to sit, relax and enjoy a snack. There are also seats along the glass looking down on the rink. A nice warm place to watch games from. The pro shop carry a decent selection of hockey gear and is big enough to actually move around in. All around nice facility. read more

Nice place with 2 rinks so they can still have public rink when they have another event going on. plenty of parking and places for parents to view their kids in the ice. Our kids really enjoy the summer camp here and usually will go back for a few weeks every summer. Some of the staff are the most unfriendly people we know while others will go beyond and makes it some much fun. read more

This is just a typical rink in Westchester County. It's a nice facility...there is only one surface which is nice but I am used to my hometown of SJ where there are a total of 7 surfaces of ice between the 3 frailties in a 10 mile radius. That being said this is a great place to spend time with friends or family! read more

They were totally out of figure skates, so I tried two different pairs of hockey skates. Very strange, could not get used to them. The guy who works there says that Friday night they are usually filled to capacity with teenagers, but Sat and Sunday are both good days for the 20/30 something crowd. read more

We just started ice skating lessons for our 6 year old. It was the first time on the ice for many kids. They could not even stand up and kept falling. The instructors either didn't care or were not able to handle so many kids. The instructors look at the kids falling and don't even offer a hand or compassion. They stand right next to them and actually let them fall. I would really like to understand this method of teaching. The instructors are tired and irritated. They need more teachers for a class like that. This class was for kids who have never skated prior to this. Most of the kids were crying within 5 mins of the class starting. It was absolute chaos and a torture to watch these kids crying and falling. The place is very unorganized. No one tells you which way to go for the class. You just follow the crowd. The staff at the registration desk is rude as well. The benches as well as the bathrooms are extremely dirty and stinky. Would not recommend this place at all for a skating class and will not go back after we are done with this session. I wish there was a trial session prior to paying for this session. They will not refund the money once you sign up with them. read more

I love this rink I have been going to Westchester skating academy for years. However, in the summer the ice is not well kept, the ceilings leak and cause massive bumps all over the ice. I have fallen over them as well as coaches and students from learn to skate. Management is good, without Ron cacavalle that rink, in my opinion would fall apart. Tevar is a wonderful employee one of which I have had the pleasure of speaking- with he is extremely knowledgeable about the facility. The learn to skate classes seem fun, but the coaches come across as bored, impatient, rude and stuck up. Their boss Stacey Isenberg is rude and often puts classes together that shouldn't be- which as a result, hinders my child's ability to further her skating abilities. The only coaches who I have had the pleasure of encountering is Vicki and Amanda, they were both so sweet and very helpful. They both always have a smile on their faces even if it's freezing in the rink. If they were to hire more people like those I have mentioned, this rink would be a top ranking rink in my books! read more
