Nestled in a cute neighbourhood, this surprisingly large nursery carries an abundant amount of indoor and outdoor plants. The indoor plants run higher in price than other places but they have a decent selection. Additionally. They have a lovely store which sells everything garden themed from mugs and napkins to lotions and figurines. The Outdoor space has a nice array of plants some of which change seasonally including water plants, with a limited selection of fountains and arbors It would have been nice if they had more garden displays set up to give customers an idea of how to arrange planting for color and design and Additionally info on each of the plants so customers know where and how to plant. What a hidden gem of a nursery! This nursery is tucked into a residential area of Pleasanton I've never visited. It's beautiful with large trees surrounding the garden. I enjoyed browsing and hearing the soothing sound of water fountains. There were rows of plants, annuals, roses and more. I was impressed with the customer service. I visited in search of different varieties of Coleus. A staff member asked if I needed help. He actually didn't know where the Coleus were located, but came to find me after finding out. We have visited this nursery twice recently. Each time we received excellent customer service, and I love how quaint this nursery is. There's a decent amount of selection to choose from. What brought us here was we were looking for a Japanese maple and all other local nurseries and even the big box hardware stores did not have them in stock. And of course, we ended up purchasing additional shrubs of unique variety that I had never seen before at other nurseries. They have a decent loyalty club that is at no extra cost, and I quickly earned my first $10 rewards certificate upon my first visit. I would definitely recommend anybody to stop by if they are looking to beautify their gardens with less ordinary plant varieties. Really adorable local place, with a quaint look to the location. The selection looked nice. Unfortunately I came at 3:15 on Sunday (closing time is 4:30); I'm not sure if they're short staffed, but they explained to me they have to hustle to 'water all the plants before they close' and didn't have time to answer my question on which soil to get with my groundcover. I gave up after asking two other staff people for help who said they're really busy.' I purchased $100 of groundcover I researched on the internet, and the checkout person was abrupt, hurried me through, and jumped out with a quick 'bye.' I just wanted a recommendation to spend more money, don't have a lot of time myself, and I tried being kind and polite. They do not take returns even if plants don't take within a month of purchase. They have very poor customer service. I spent hundreds of dollars with them upon recommendation of my gardener. because I used my landscapers account to purchase and got a 10% discount when I first made the purchase, they will not take any returns. While browsing around I noticed this old lady watering the plants outside was saying "hi and good morning to everyone". I was like that's very nice... Well when I walked by her and she didn't even say anything, she just looked at me. That's funny seems like she's choosing who to say hi to. What a hidden gem this place is! If you have a green thumb -- or even if you don't and need some advice -- I've fallen in love with their set-up. Last weekend, I was looking for some ideas to fill out a number of planters around my house, including a half wine barrel. I'd done a lot of gardening growing up for my parents, but was never involved in the decision-making on what to plant, so I was pretty clueless. One of their staff members took the time to listen to what I was trying to do, what kind of sun it got, etc and walked me around for 20-30 minutes to give me ideas. Bought a bunch of annuals and a few other plants, got home and spent the day planting -- turned out perfect, but I was a few short. Went back a week later (yesterday), to grab a few more things and the guy who had helped me recognized me. He cared enough to ask how things had turned out and wanted to see pictures. Spent a few minutes chatting and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. That goes for the rest of their staff too -- had a chance to ask two others a few questions as well. Very energetic, patient and thorough in helping me out. Really nice people. Along with that, such a great selection. I'll be a return customer for sure. If possible, I would give this place a negative star. The female worker was extremely rude and will destroy evidence to cover up her lies. Came by and saw some succulents that my mom liked, and also saw a specific insecticide was on sale for 50% off so I grabbed 4. $11.99 was the original price and the tag showed $5.88. At the register, it rang up as the original price so I let the female cashier know that the price is different. We walked back into the store where the sale price tag clearly said $5.88 and she said the system was not updated (which happens some times and that's okay, as long as the price is corrected at check out), but when we got back to the register, she insisted that the price was $5.99 and rang the 4 items as $6 instead of $5.88. I told her that the tag showed $5.88 so that should be the price that I should be paying. It's the principle of the matter, but she insisted that it was $5.99 and even went back in to check. My mom followed in afterwards to get a picture of the price tag to show the cashier but she removed the price tag to cover up her lie. When the cashier came back to the register, I asked to make sure the price was indeed $5.88 and she simply lied and said no. She was extremely petty with her attitude. Future customers beware, this worker is irresponsible and will remove evidence to cover her tracks and lies. Make sure you get a picture of the price tag for whatever item you buy before you get to the register and double check the price you are charged at the register because if you encounter the same cashier as I did, she will argue with you, followed by a condescending and rude attitude. read more

I had no idea that this nursery existed, until a friend suggested that we look for some trees or tall shrubs at Western Garden. We were interested in either a crape myrtle or arbutus marina. We wanted trees/shrubs with multi trunks. We found both types of plants. Even tho, it's time for the crape myrtle to drop leaves before going into dormancy, their selection was good and the trees looked healthy. But we saw an arbutus marina, and since it had such a nice shape and is evergreen, we changed our minds. The customer service was very good, efficient, friendly, polite. We came here because we were in urgent need in finding someone who can help us with the softscape design of our front and backyard. Lita was our life saver. She was able to fit us in her busy schedule within a week. She came to our house and helped us to chose plants and trees and create a plant list for our backyard. She is very knowledgable, friendly and honest! It says a lot about the experience and knowledge of a person if she able to come to your house and create a plant list within 2 hours whereas most architects/designers will take days to do that. I uploaded one picture of our front yard and will post more of our backyard once its done but thanks to Lita it looks gorgeous. She picked the perfect plants and trees and everything just flows and has a very natural feeling. I also have zero experience with gardening and I am a little scared as every planting experience ended up in a disaster! But Lita gave me great advice and confidence just to give it another try! Went in person and after an hour yes hour of discussion on all options and trying a few oranges off the plant yes trying a few we went with Valencia orange. Felt so comfortable that we picked a $99.99 one. Bought few other items and on check out we used the yelp deal where you pay $50 for $75 deal. Saved 20% on overall transaction. Excellent nursery, large with a great selection of healthy looking plants, trees, and shrubs. Kind of reminds me of Navlet's in Walnut Creek, but even bigger. I got tired browsing the flowers and vegetables...didn't even walk down the aisles of decorative trees and shrubs. Parking is easy right in front. It's mostly outdoors, so bring your hat. I went in the middle of the week and it wasn't too crowded. Staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable, perhaps a little higher than the big box stores, but not outrageous. They had a few things on sale. Most of the items were clearly marked. I got a transfer shovel with fiberglass handle for only $10. Some wine barrel planters were discounted to $30. Tomato plants were $3-4. They just had a special event, so they had a great selection of special tomato varieties. They also have lots of ceramic pots. Prices were okay, but not a bargain. I was researching a large raised planter bed and needed soil in bulk. They referred me to the landscape supply place next door. How nice is that? We'll be back for more veggies. First I want applaud and rave about the great customer service and knowledge of majority of the employees there - from Stephanie (most knowledgeable and friendly) to Brian, the manager. We spent over 1.5k there in plants while landscaping our front yard and did so because they were always professional and polite. Brian was quick to respond to my messages and even texted me pictures of plants they had onsite. I reserved several plants while working out of town and purchased them when I returned home, smooth transactions over phone and text with prompt response. My first negative experience was with Patty. It was 5pm when I arrived and she rushed me out as they close at 5:30. In 30 minutes I did manage to pick out 6 or so plants, unfortunately in her hurry, she charged me for a plant I only asked for price check on, but never purchased. I came by the next day, explain the situation to another girl at the counter, and was given store credit to purchase additional plant without any issue. So although I didn't like being rushed, they made things right so I forgave the rudeness and mistake - we all want to go home after long day at work. This morning, I came in and explained that all the plants I purchased from them seem to be doing well, expect this one pineapple guava plant that doesn't seem to be taking and was looking bad. Brian said I could take the plant out and return it (he also said I could bring back a clipping and he could tell me what's wrong). I went home, pulled up entire plant with roots and took time to find exact plastic pot (we had stack of 3 dozen or so plastic pots from the landscaping project) with bar code and price for return. I even had the original receipt. When I returned with plant, Patty refused to refund me. She said that the heat made the plant look bad and because she couldn't resell it, I couldn't return it. I explained the conversation I had earlier with Brian, the store manager, but still she was firm on the no return, even though it was purchased just two weeks earlier! I told her that there was another guava plant that I could exchange it for if she'd give me store credit. Then she accused me that I simply changed my mind and wanted something else. Seriously? To go through the trouble or uprooting a plant simply because? I didn't even know about the Pink Guava until another employee pointed it out, as I was pondering whether or not to get the Black Jack fig tree that I've been eyeing for weeks but was on expensive end. After 15min of arguing she finally did the exchange. What's the point of it all? I had the original receipt, it was in the original pot with serial code, and it was purchased just two weeks earlier. They have a 6 month guarantee on plants over 1 gallon with original receipt in original pot. All criteria which I adhered to. So why did she object to it and gave me such a hard time? Patty said that the plant had to be in same or better condition for return. No where in there guarantee did it state that plant should be in sellable condition; furthermore is plant was doing well I wouldn't have wasted my time planting, uprooting and replanting. This is not my idea of customer service. I'm avoiding this place when Patty's around. One star for ornery Patty - but because everyone else is good or great, they still get 3 stars. We still have 3x amount of plants to purchase for backyard but I'm taking that business elsewhere. read more

My husband and I decided to make the drive from Brentwood to Pleasanton to visit Western Garden Nursery. We were told they had an amazing selection of water fountains and had excellent customer service. While we did find a couple fountains that we liked and were considering, the sales guy must have thought that he worked at a used car dealership instead of a nursery. With lines like, "this deal will only last today" and we can't take much of anything off of a floor model fountain that requires some fixing and that's been sitting out in the elements for goodness knows how long. We learned that they were out to make some serious money out of you without giving you the time to consider your choice or what would compliment your home. We've since decided that since they aren't the only game in town and there are plenty of reputable companies that care about your home vision, that we would be exploring and purchasing elsewhere. Called two years after I bought a Meyer Lemon because the leaves were turning yellow and I wanted some advice. I asked if I could send a couple pictures but they said that I needed to come in to the store with a sample so that they could recommend the right product. Who says I need a product? I guess I can't buy anything over the phone so they won't give advice on the last product I purchased unless I am there to buy something else. Follow-up to the Nursery's below comment: I would agree that that Aries retort that, "Diagnosing plant problems usually involves a conversation with lots of questions", is both understandable and welcome. In fact I use the telephone on a daily basis to conduct such back and forth conversations that dare I say at times have involved even more perilous implications and possible outcomes than a sick and withering lemon tree. Yet I still hold the thought that the company's policy which prohibits conversations from happening regarding follow up treatments for past purchases within arms length of their cash register is curious.
