We ordered over the phone a family catfish and large French fry and were quoted 20 minutes on a Friday night. The food was ready and waiting when we picked it up in 20 minutes. They were busy with a lot of walk in customers who ordered at the counter as this restaurant is carry out only. I live in Florida and the catfish in Illinois is superior. This fish had a light crispy topping that was not at all greasy. The menu states everything is fried in 100 percent vegetable oil. I was shocked when we got an 8 x 11 pan with six large fillets. A large fry was your standard foam clamshell filled with hot crispy fries. They also have onion rings which I am definitely going to try. When I was reviewing the menu I saw that they have seasoning flavors: lemon pepper, spicy lemon pepper, garlic lemon pepper and ranch lemon pepper. I sense a theme here. I thought regular was perfect. My cousin has had the dark chicken which she said was very good. Like the fish the chicken coating doesn't overwhelm the meat and is similar to an original style instead of extra crispy. The gyro plate is plentiful and flavorful. The pita was large enough to hold the fillings. They have sandwich and meal options including fries. Since the portions are so large I think I think the monster burger and monster gyro plate (5 pitas, the works & family fries) must be HUGE! Desserts are cake, cheesecake, parfait and taffy grapes. I googled taffy grapes and it looks like fresh produce dipped in a candy topping with nuts mixed in. My next meal at Sharkey's will be onion rings and taffy grapes.

The steak was excellent, the lobster ceviche was creative and delicious, the carpaccio was beautifully prepared, and the scallops were truly extraordinary. The bread pudding dessert was the perfect finish to an already remarkable meal. A special shout-out to the manager, Mike, who was incredibly gracious and welcoming, and to our waiter, Adrian, who was absolutely wonderful. Adrian was attentive, charming, knowledgeable, and a great conversationalist. He made us feel genuinely special and was a big part of what made the evening so memorable. I lived in Los Angeles for more than 40 years and have been fortunate enough to dine at many highly regarded restaurants in the U.S. and around the world. Saffron Social deserves to be noticed in that company. This was not simply a very good meal for Central Illinois, it was an exceptional dining experience by any standard. Most importantly, my wife had a wonderful birthday, and we talked about the meal the entire drive home. Saffron Social is absolutely a restaurant worth seeking out, and we are already looking forward to returning.

My husband ordered the Jambalaya Mac & Cheese 'without the crab'. The server never mentioned that the dish was pre-mixed or that omitting the crab wasn't possible. When our food arrived, she set down a Lobster Mac & Cheese instead. My husband hates lobster, so there would have been no reason for him to ask for "no crab" if that was what he wanted. When he pointed out the mistake, our server, Kris, initially argued with him instead of fixing her mistake. She eventually took it back, but it was another 20 minutes before his meal arrived. By then, I had already finished eating, so we weren't able to enjoy our meal together. I also had an issue with my Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich. Because of a medical condition, I can't eat the bun, so I cut the chicken up and eat it with a fork. That turned out to be nearly impossible because the restaurant only provides plastic forks and knives. While struggling to cut the chicken, my entire plate ended up in my lap. Kris didn't seem very familiar with the menu, and the overall service left a lot to be desired. Everyone has an off day, but for a first visit this wasn't a good impression and they weren't busy at the time. Between the incorrect order, the long wait to fix it, and the lack of proper utensils, we left disappointed and will probably choose somewhere else next time.
