I can't say enough good things about the team at the downtown ROC Express. After a frustrating experience at another location, I was directed to the downtown office, and from the moment I arrived, everyone was absolutely wonderful. I believe the woman who called me to help get everything sorted out was named Brenda. She was so kind, reassuring, and made sure my 10-month-old son would be seen. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and compassionate. The receptionist greeted us warmly, the medical assistant was great with my son, the PA was thorough and caring, and the person who applied his cast was gentle and patient. They all treated us with kindness, which meant so much after a stressful day. I was also incredibly impressed with how efficient the visit was. We were brought back quickly, X-rays were done, the provider evaluated my son, and he was placed in a cast--all in what felt like no time at all. The entire process was smooth and well organized. I also want to give ROC credit for their online chat feature. It was easy to use, I was able to upload a picture of my son's splint, and I received a phone call back much faster than I expected. Having that option made it easy to communicate what was going on before we even arrived. Thank you to the entire downtown ROC Express team for taking such wonderful care of my son. We went to ROC express on Saturday 5/8/26 as our last resort. My sister was having knee pain to the point she couldn't walk. As we walk in first point of contact was front desk girl who looked so upset that we were walking in. I get it, sucks to work on a Saturday but if you are the first thing a patient sees as they are hurting maybe you should be a little more welcoming or compassionate. We got help by person sitting next to her who right away greeted us with a smile. My sister felt worst in Monday 5/12 so I took her back as she had said she felt like something had snapped in her knee and this time she was not able to put any weight on it. As soon as Sierra saw us she said and I quote" You were here Saturday, we aren't going to be able to do anything for your today" I work in healthcare and I would never just off the bat refuse service to anyone. Front desk staff should not be giving out medical advice! This girl didn't even let us get a word in before she even shut us down. And once again she had that annoyed/ mad expression. My sister asked for a doctor's note and she said " I can't provide that for you, the Dr. Has to do it" Sierra if you would of let us just speak you would understand we were not asking YOU for the note as you are not the provider that saw her or treated her! But since she obviously looks like she hates her job she ushered us out fast. We were able to get seen in the ER as my sister did dislocate her knee and from Saturday to Monday the situation changed! Thankfully SWIFT got us in right away as well! Please ROC do better with your front desk staff. We are coming to you scared, hurt and just needing help or resources as to what to do next. But instead we got treated poorly by front desk staff. Horrible experience! read more

My daughter ended up with a fractured hand while we were out of town, so we arranged for follow up at the ROC. Thankfully we were able to get her in within two weeks which was the recommended timeframe. She saw APRN Ashlee who took the time to listen to us, was very thoughtful and answered all of our questions. Shout out to the guys working in casting who were so much fun! Dr. Lisa Kafchinski was wonderful! I came in to support a friend and the Dr. was respectful in focusing on my friend. While I was acknowledged and recognized, I was focused on taking notes for my friend. Dr. Kafchinski saw I was note taking and asked if she needed to slow down or repeat herself. She explained things very clearly and made a situation that could have been scary sound manageable and treatable. I also appreciate that she didn't make any false promises because we still needed to get answers from other tests. Then the next day I got an email saying congratulations you were chosen for an interview for surgery scheduler please pick a day and time so I did and then they emailed back you were not chosen for an interview. At this point im frustrated and I screen shot the email and sent it back to the person who wrote it and said then why did you send this email to me and got nothing back. Went to ROC EXPRESS after falling. The check-in was fast and the staff was wonderful. Very efficient !! Within 15 mins I was in a room and x-rays ordered. Doctor came in and said yes, it broke. The remodel of this place turned out really great. I arrived today @ 7 a.m. with a broken second toe ( the one next to the big one) It was cool to see that they had 2 large golf carts out front that are so needed when you break something... especially when you park far away... and I have had to deal with that issue back in 2019 when I broke my femur. The golf carts are a great idea! We got there right when the opened @ 7 a.m. the girl working the front desk was very pleasant. I will say the entire staff was really loud and unprofessional because we could hear them chatting about their social lives big time. I mean when your in agony you really could care less and just want to be waited on. I asked the gal at the front desk will I get a actual M.D. or a P.A. and she said a P.A which is totally fine with me I've had PA's that we're better than actual docs in some cases, well this wasn't one of them. I saw the PA sneak in at 7:20. The medical assistant came in and I told her the story of how I broke my toe. Then off to the X-Rays. The were quick but again I had to listen to Al the jibber jabbering about everyone's social life. I mean... Then Matthew Sacht finally graced me and he was speaking so quickly and really didn't make much sense but told me I didn't need to come back at all, this was the good news. I asked the assistant to please write down some instructions for me because I didn't understand all that he said, he was probably in there like 3 minutes. I did ask the assistant if I could please get some photos of the X-Ray and she was very nice and let me get some shots. I could hardly see the break at all which is a good thing. They sold me a shoe for $20 and I forget what exactly what his instructions were because he was giving me the bumb's rush to get me outta there so he could get back to his socializing. He waited on me once before and was was better at his job than that morning. There was,literally no one else in the place but me, even when I left. The E-Ray tech, the receptionist and the medical assistant were all every nice. My advice is keep down the socialization because people that are coming into urgent care are not feeling good. It was amazing to me how much a small break like that hurts. That P.A. gets 1 star. read more

I have been here before a long time ago for a foot and ankle sprain and again for our youngest daughter when she fractured a toe. The level of attentiveness back then was amazing and hasn't discontinued. I recently had a ganglion cyst removed from my ring finger and I couldn't have been more pleased with the assessment of the issue, to labs done prior, to scheduling, to the level of care from check-in to discharge. I'm not one to get antsy about surgery, but if I did, there wouldn't be a care in the world because of the personalities of all those I engaged. I'd like to give it 5 stars. Had surgery there with Dr Dobbs several times ... actually he performed my surgeries at Renown South meadows. I've every confidence in him Labs staff friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately my 3/31/22 surgery was canceled by Renown because of their issues with the anesthesia group they were using and there was no one available for my surgery This is where my issues begin. It took me 10 days to get rescheduled and I felt like I was treated with indifference. I had to keep calling them ... even though they knew how stressed out I was due to the cancellation. I finally got rescheduled but felt like no effort was made to accommodate those who were canceled. I felt like "too bad about the cancellation, now step to the back of the line and wait another 9 weeks!" Seriously!! Ok so I'm going to wait for my new 6/7/22 surgery date. All I had to do was call Renown within 28 days of surgery to do pre-admit & labs. They told me my 6/7 date was canceled too. This caused more stress than you can imagine and 20 phone calls in 10 days to get it straight. I feel the ROC scheduler dropped the ball and a call to get supervisor didn't help much. So only 2 STARS to administrative staff. This was way too much stress for an almost 80 year old. I think all administrative staff working in a medical environment should spend a day or two working with a nurse to learn some compassion! read more

Parking is always full at the building site and you need to park across the street and hope that the shuttle is running when you need to get back to the main building. Don't rely on the front desk totally and accurately checking you in if you have x-rays and an appointment, even though when you reach the area for your appointment they tell you if you've checked in downstairs you don't need to check in again. Be sure you check in anyway. Today I arrived at 7:30 for 745 x-rays. Got in and was at the appointment desk by 805 and advised if I checked in downstairs I was checked in upstairs flash forward 45 minutes and we're still in the waiting room as over a dozen people arrive and go in for their appointments. I finally go up to the desk and ask her to be sure that I'm checked in and her response is "Oh I'll let them know you're waiting." Her response told me that I was NOT checked in from downstairs, plus the girl at the desk had absolutely no idea we had been sitting there for 45 minutes. Lo and behold! Within two minutes of that check in we were in seeing Dr. Althouser. He apologized profusely for the miscommunication and screwup, and said he would refer it to higher up. Next, I take my referral for physical therapy to the second floor and I'm told they're booked out at least two weeks and will only make one appointment for me at two weeks until I actually come in. So I ask her, if I only have one appointment and you're booked out two weeks, when I show up in two weeks will my next physical therapy appointment be scheduled another two weeks later? She advises me. "That's the way the process works at this point." Needless to say, ROC's checking in process, as well as, their physical therapy scheduling is a total, for lack of a better descriptor, shit show. read more

Yes... Dr. Goz, was AMAZING. He is up on the latest technology. He will not do a procedure if it is not necessary. Why have other tests just to re-prove what the issue is. I felt very comfortable with him. I read in AARP that because of Obama care, Dr's spent most of there time now doing paper work and can now usually only spent maybe 15 minutes if your lucky. He took his time and explained to me my options and what I needed to do to help myself. STAY FIT, DROP THE WEIGHT!!! Also he is not into prescriptions heavy medications and I like that. I come to the ROC every once in a while for my boyfriend to see Dr. Amara and while I wait, the Roost Cafe always helps to keep me entertained. I wish it had a check in for itself but the ladies that work on the second floor cafe are always so friendly and very quick! I love chai lattes so that's my go-to every time. Today I got an almond milk Spiced chai latte and I kinda wish I used a different milk but it is still delicious! They have Oat, hemp, almond and soy milk for alternative options. They have lots of snacks you can choose from and lots of different drinks like lattes, Italian sodas and smoothies! This place is so disorganized and in it for the money. Scheduling an appointment on July 11 then calling me July 2 asking if I was ready for my appointment the next day July 3. You guys have missed the mark 2 times in a row. Starting with the first appointment saying an mri would be done and an xray. I got into the appointment no extra x ray was done (not a bad thing, as they were clearing trying to scam insurance). And no mri done as they first wanted to insure that insurance was going to pay. Great and quick experience at ROC express. I walked in and was in and out in about an hour. They were able to x ray what I needed checked out and the doctor came in within 10 minutes of it being done. The clinic itself is really clean and the staff is nice. I came in with my baby and the nurse was willing to sit with her while I went back for my X-ray. I would recommend ROC express over going to the ER any day! After three unsuccessful visits, it's time to pull the trigger on the review I've been avoiding. How ironic I use the word "trigger" because our latest failure here involves a condition called Trigger finger. My wife suffered this painful injury to her right hand; ROC refused her treatment. Last straw folks. Long story short, she had gone to work and at the end of her shift reported to the emergency department for relief. After a shot that seemed to really help, the ER physician sent her to ROC. The geniuses at ROC wouldn't see her because they labeled it a workman's comp case....even thou a case was never filed and we both explained it wasn't work related. Huh? Months back, I went there for follow-up on Bursitis and Cellulitis in my right knee. Fluid was previously drawn and analyzed in the aforementioned ER. Really all that was needed was a quick exam and an antibiotic change. They wanted to stick another needle (that's a risk of infection) and start all over. They already have all the details from the hospital and the lab. I must have great insurance. If your sent to this joint. Let your fingers doing the walking in the yellow pages...better yet...search Yelp. There has to be a safer place to go. 7/19 read more

This review is for two of us in our family availing ourselves of the services of ROC. I've had two torn Achilles tendons in the past 20 years. After both of them, I was told that no physical therapy was needed or recommended. Well after my third tear (a less serious one), the doctor who saw me was stunned when I told him that. Since my tear was not as serious as the previous two, he recommended PT. It has helped a lot, but angers me that no one thought it would help in the past, which ROC thinks is a must post surgery. The second time we needed to use ROC in the past couple of months is for my youngest daughter. She had ACL and meniscus tear surgery three years ago which didn't work. Won't mention the physician who messed that one up at another orthopedic center in Reno. Dr. Kalisvaart was my daughter's surgeon who listened to her, understood her concerns and explained what was going on and why she was still in pain. The last surgeon was the exact opposite. Dr. Kalisvaart was the utmost professional and made my daughter feel confident and hopeful. I highly recommend ROC and in particular Dr. Kalisvaart as he treated my 20 year old as an adult, with compassion, and respect. Both of us will always go to ROC if needed with total confidence. Hopefully, we will never need to see them again, but who knows. At least we know where to go! read more

The facility is nice and staff is great but the medical advice is convoluted and inconsistent. I went for a fractured elbow and originally was told surgery may be needed. A week goes by, I go back for follow up the ortho doc told me he can barely see my fracture and I can basically advance activity without many precautions, surgery isn't needed, and I'll be 100% in 6 weeks. I go back for 3-4 week check up, saw a different PA and he told me my elbow is MORE displaced now, still broken and we should have considered surgery. Even the X-ray I saw this visit was vastly different from the previous. I'm on week 6 now and my elbow is still broken with some deficits. I'm overall dissatisfied with how inconsistent the medical advice has been. It's almost like the ortho MD looked at the wrong X-ray on week2? Also every time I went there for a follow up X-ray, they had an order for an X-ray of the shoulder when my left elbow was broken and I had to remind them to correct the order for two different visits. read more

I am very impressed with Dr. Nichole Joslyn, a hand and microvascular plastic surgeon at the ROC. She did a wide excision to remove melanoma on my ankle, very close to tendons, and did a great job. I cannot recommend Dr. Pierce Johnson. He was falling asleep on first appointment. He does not make eye contact. MA does not return phone calls for 2 hours to 4 days. MA also tries to give RX advice. (Not OK) MA sent first prescription to wrong pharmacy. 100% failure with pain medications. I have a full bottles of pain pills that did not work. Did not give any paper handout with directions. Per Federal law the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides care to Veterans through community providers (outside the VA) when VA cannot provide the care needed. Community care for Veterans is based on specific eligibility requirements, availability of VA care, and the needs and circumstances of individual Veterans. I am a Veteran the VA referred to Reno Occupational Therapy (ROC) via the federal Community Care Program. ROC incorrectly and illegally insisted I provide in writing my financial information to them for "billing purposes." ROC also incorrectly and illegally insisted in writing that I pay for other issues and agree to it. I informed ROC what they were doing is illegal and I correctly declined to provide all information relating to billing me and declined to sign information related to billing me as it is illegal for all Community Care providers to directly bill Veterans, including but not limited to billing Veterans for any care including but not limited to Urgent Care or to collect including but not limited to co-payment directly from Veterans or for Veterans no-shows, or for Veterans lates from Veterans as VA IS NOT health insurance, and ROC has a written contract with Tr-West NOT any Veteran. ROC's written contract with Tri-West clearly spells out in great detail what all community care providers like ROC can and can't so. TriWest has a contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Although I repeatedly kept telling ROC what they are doing is illegal, and even provided them with a copy of their contract with Tri-West which specifically states ROC is NOT to do what they were illegally attempting to do with me, ROC kept insisting otherwise. ROC finally declined to treat me due to my repeatedly pointing out their illegal demands. I kept all the illegal paperwork ROC had illegally and incorrectly demanded I fill out AND sign before treating me. What ROC is illegally doing to Veterans sent to them by the VA through VA's contract with Tri-West under the community care program is evil and horrifying. It is avarice at its worst. It is a violation of every doctor's ethics including but not limited to the Hippocratic Oath. It also appears ROC is not only illegally billing Veterans directly for issues NO community care provider can legally bill any Veteran for under ROC's contract with Tri-West, but that ROC what RIC is doing clearly gives ROC the ability to illegally double-bill Veterans AND Tri-West. Veterans are an extraordinarily rare 7% of the population. Here ROC clearly denies Veterans the opportunity to participate in the American Dream Veterans sacrifices have made possible for all including everyone who owns or works at ROC. When I go to doc I expect results. They were no help. It went from my knee needing to be fixed to how I eat. Dietian. They have to be joking. I am not one to approve of passing the buck. ROC accepted my copay but did not provide me with medical service. At no point in my 7 minute appointment was I seen by a doctor. A nurse's assistant gave me a cheap foam sticker and told me to put it in my shoe "where it will help." I asked where to buy more and she said "Amazon...maybe?" I asked where in my shoe to put it and she told me to move it around until it relieved my pain. It did not help at all. I handed it back to her and she said, "Well good luck. This is an awesome service available to those of us who have an "urgent" need - broken bones are not an emergency room issue, so it is great to have an alternative. I was so impressed by the urgent manner that the whole staff had when we showed up at the clinic. The most pleasant staffers, they explained how it all worked, what to expect and best of all, followed through with all the appointment settings and referrals. Took my son here after a basketball injury. They examined and took x-ray. X-Ray came back clean so they wanted to order an MRI. We were supposed to get a call to schedule but after two weeks we had heard nothing. I called and a representative told me they would call me the next day. Another week goes by, son still on crutches, and I call again. Now they have no record of order. Gave up and went to Great Basin Ortho where we got right in and an MRI is scheduled. Of course we had to pay for additional x-rays and visits. Stay away from ROC if you want timely care. read more

After some Super Sunday shenanigans left my hubby with a painful knee injury, we headed to ROC Express. Seen quickly without an appointment, we were offered a diagnosis and started the ball rolling for treatment. Referrals were made for imaging and a follow up was made for reading the MRI, all before we left. We have a follow up scheduled soon, and I pushed to get that, since my only complaint would be that the first available they offered with their recommended knee doc was 3 weeks away! Who can wait 3 weeks without being able to walk for an appt? Not us! Otherwise, we received prompt, competent care and recommendations for treatment. Anyone with an unexpected injury just wants to get the ball rolling, so they'll be back on their feet sooner. As apposed to waiting hours in the ER, ROC Express was a better choice. read more
