Due to Covid situation we had to call office once we were parked outside, then young lady came outside and took our Hedgie in. My mother's beloved cat of 13 years suffered a devastating stroke on Thursday evening. The following morning, my mother called Westfield Veterinary Group to ask about euthanasia. Unfortunately, the experience was heartbreaking--not only because of what my mother was already going through, but because of how dismissive and coldly she was treated by the woman who answered the phone. She never introduced herself, showed very little sympathy, and made an already devastating situation even more painful. We were quoted $r498 for the service, without the return of the ashes. My mother had recently returned to work after recovering from a heart attack, and seeing her completely devastated over losing her beloved pet was difficult enough. Knowing that she reached out to a veterinary hospital during one of the most painful moments imaginable and was met with such a lack of compassion was incredibly upsetting. As an animal hospital, I would expect a certain level of empathy and understanding, especially when someone is calling to say goodbye to a pet who has been part of their family for 13 years. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with Westfield Veterinary Group. Thankfully, we found VIP Animal Hospital, where my mother and her cat were treated with genuine compassion, sympathy, and understanding. They charged $348 out the door, including the return of her pet's ashes in a beautiful memorial box. The difference in both the price and, more importantly, the level of care and compassion was remarkable. No one should feel worse after reaching out for help during such a heartbreaking moment. called recently to ask price for routine neuter of a male cat, only $1200 , what a bargain , used them once before to get appetite supplement , required an exam beforehand. Of all the areas of public/corporate or professional interaction the vet area is the worst...serious issue ...so go to specialist and be prepared to spend 10 K for poor results. Knowledge of vets at the GP level is pretty much the ability to look a a test result on hard copy where the problem areas are highlighted and a basic prescription given as an answer. On June 24, 2025, my girlfriend and her elderly grandmother brought their 13-year-old senior dog to Westfield Veterinary Group in Union because she had stopped eating. They were charged over $1,500 for a basic check-up and only received three days of medication. The dog did not improve. When they asked for more help or a prescription extension, they were told they would need to return and pay the full amount again. This felt deeply exploitative and profit-focused, especially toward an elderly client in distress. There was no compassion, no care -- just billing. A year ago today I made the mistake of trusting these people with the final moments of my little one. I signed and paid for a private cremation because my dog meant the world to me. These people didn't care for my wishes and did as they pleased and sent him off to a communal cremation and threw away his ashes who fucking knows where. I've been looking for a lawyer for a year to make these people pay for what they have done to me but it has not been easy. I brought my beloved Cooper and Lady in because they are getting older and they weren't feeling well. The vets and the veterinarian assistants, were so attentive and caring. They listened to everything I had to say, which at times I know I sounded like a crazy dog lady but they understood that they are precious to me and they treated them like they were their own furbabies. Having a pet medical emergency is always a high stress situation for any pet owner. After visiting another animal hospital for my pet emergency I'm so happy that we found Westfield. The facilities, were quiet and clean, with ample space for parking. Finding parking while your pet is having an emergency is the last thing you want to be thinking about. All the staff from the front desk to the vet techs to the doctors were all amazingly kind and patient. While we don't know very much about pet medical emergencies, the staff walked us through our pet's situation and the options that we could pursue. They took amazing care of our little dog and made sure that his stay at the hospital was comfortable. Westfield handled their communications really well, and while playing phone tag in between busy schedules is always challenging, the staff always made sure to return our calls. There was even a situation when my call was dropped and the front desk gave me a call back right away. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the dedication, the compassion, and kindness. I just had to have my dog put to sleep after 16 years. I called prior, just to see what the cost would be, and was told between $250-350. I knew my dog was at the end, but they said the Doctor had to see the dog. I was charged $547.00. At the time in the office, I was so upset but I really feel this Vet's group is taking advantage of people at their worst hour. I only gave one star to ensure that this would be noted! This was the worst experience ever!! To be short, I brought my dog in for lacerations to her leg and paws as she jumped on the glass door. The doctors refused to do anything until the bill was settled. It began with an the initial evaluation where I was given a quote of approx. $3,000-$4,000. I clearly stated what I wanted which excluded all of the unnecessary "bells & whistles" , I was given a quote of $1,300-$1,650. Because my dog was in distress and the fact that her vet was not open, I agreed to the $1,300 which in turn ended up as $1,600. There was no contact from the vet throughout the day with updates, I made all of the contacts and insisted that they release my dog. They sent us home with a medication and prescriptions (additional cost). I was told to return in three days to have the bandages removed but was not informed that that would be an additional fee! It was all about the money not about my pups well being! Please find a vet that cares about your family member! read more

The incompetence and carelessness of the staff is incomprehensible. They are literally running a scam here. They charged me for blood work and urine sample by catherization. The blood work took over 3 days to get results (why pay ER vet fees for blood work that takes 3 days). After waiting long enough, I called the office to ask them for the lab's number so I can reach out myself to see what the hold up is. They told me they could not give out the lab's number so they will call. Conveniently, right after reception said they will call the lab themselves, they called me back immediately to say "LABS JUST CAME IN"....after calling numerous times throughout that day to speak with the doctor, He finally called me to say the lab work was normal. He didn't mention anything about the urine culture. When asked about the urine, he couldn't find the results. He couldn't even tell me if they CATHETERIZED my dog that night. HE WAS THE DOCTOR ON STAFF. He said the vet techs would be the ones take the sample so he doesn't know if it actually happened. YET THEY CHARGED ME FOR IT. On top of that, his staff left the blood sample out to sit all night. We know this because the glucose was a 10. This happens if blood isn't spun in a timely manner. He told me to COME BACK IN for another visit to recheck the glucose because my dog could have a glucose problem. WHEN HE FULL KNOWS IT WAS BECAUSE OF HIS INCOMPETITANT STAFF that the glucose was that low. The dog wouldn't be alive if it was really that low (plus we got it retested at our primary vet and it was normal). If I didn't work in health care, he would have tricked me into coming back to charge me for another visit for a problem that isn't even real. I told him the reason the glucose was so low is because they left it out. HE SAID IT'S POSSIBLE THE STAFF NEEDS RETRAINING. So lets reiterate - the vet techs catheterized my dog maybe or maybe not. They either didn't document/lost the urine sample or charged me for services that weren't rendered. Then they took a blood sample and left it to sit. I spoke with the "manager" to get a refund obviously for the urine that did or didn't happen with no results. AND the blood results since - how could I trust that anything is accurate? The blood wasn't handled correctly and that's a scientific fact. SHE WOULDNT REFUND ME FOR THE BLOOD and hung the phone up on me. She did not give a shit about my dog neither did the doctor. They literally could careless about animals this place is so SAD. Over 3 days of suffering for no reason/no answers and hundreds of dollars lost. What a horrible experience. They sent us home with 100mg of Tramadol (for pain) for a 45 pound dog which almost put him in a coma. His heart beat was slow, I was afraid he was going to overdose. A 45 pound dog does NOT need that much tramadol. You guys are useless...and its scary you aren't shut down yet after reading so many terrifying reviews. read more

We brought our cat here early in the morning after a suspected glycol poisoning from a leaking boiler. Our cat was suddenly lethargic and nauseated after having been happy and healthy the day before. The vet decided that the cat was in kidney failure due to old age and never tested our cat for the poisoning. She deteriorated so quickly that we had to euthanize her a few hours later. I just read that the antidote had to be administered within 3 hours of ingestion of the poison to work. Our cat usually wakes at 5, so that's probably when she put her paws in the glycol. I don't know whether the antidote would've been in time, but I wish they'd tried. read more

I have never left a negative review for a business before. I had not planned on leaving one today. I tried to reach out to the emergency location in Union, as well as their affiliated practice in Westfield. Union I couldn't get anyone on the phone. In Westfield I explained that I had a very bad experience at their emergency facility and wanted to make sure that a supervisor was aware of the situation in hopes to prevent it happening to someone else. After I was put on hold for over 9 minutes I was hung up on. On line as well as their website states they are open until midnight. I arrived with my 14 year old dog who was in severe distress at 10:39. I was told they close at 11 and they refused to see my dog. He could not walk or even stand. He was shaking and panting! It took me approximately 20 minutes to get to the next closest emergency hospital. Thank goodness they were immediately attentive. By the time he got there his blood sugar was so low they couldn't even get a reading! In the time it took me to get to the 2nd hospital he could've had seizures or worse! He is STILL in the emergency hospital being cared for, and will be spending the night again tonight. He clearly was in desperate need of medical attention when he was turned away! Change your hours on line and on your website to reflect when you're actually open until. If by open you don't mean accepting patients then note what time you actually are accepting patients until! This is an EMERGENCY facility! If the staff is more worried about what time they clock out than caring for sick animals then maybe they should look for a different line of work. read more

We went for an emergency visit for our dog that helped us find out that she had lymphoma. They handled that really well and Dr. Kelly M. Coughlin kept us updated the whole time and discussed next steps at every moment. We unfortunately had to come back for euthanasia after our pup was declining more and more. They had such a comfortable room were the procedure was done and were so courteous and comforting. The price for the procedure including the cremation and paw print was affordable as well. Stay away!!! I would give zero stars if allowed. Because of the gross incompetence of this veterinary clinic, my cat is now dead. I brought my cat on January 20th because he was not eating well. The veterinarian, Dr. Eppinger, diagnosed the problem as colitis. My pet was still clearly in distress and I brought him back four days later. The diagnosis was confirmed as colitis and he was sent home. Total bill for both visits: $1,608.29. For this sum, my cat was given x-rays, ultrasound, and blood work, in addition to hydration. Despite this, my cat was still ill and out of desperation, I brought him to another practice. Without any x-rays or blood work, the vet noticed he had a sizable lump on the side of his neck and he needed to do a needle biopsy. The vet believed it was likely cancer, due to the tumor's location. The cost for this visit was less than a fifth of what Westfield Veterinary Group charged me for the wrong diagnosis. When I wrote an email to Westfield to express my anger the next day, Dr. Eppinger called me, telling me that she called my new veterinary practice and "found out" that they didn't yet know whether it was cancer. She demanded to know what diagnostics they used to find the tumor. I told her the vet used only his eyes and hands. I feel that calling my new vet was unprofessional, the behavior of someone who was afraid of litigation. Five days later, I got the devastating diagnosis of cancer. Because of Westfield Veterinary Group's failure to simply visually examine my cat and manually feel for irregularities, my cat is now dead. Covid has made it all but impossible to get a timely appointment at an oncologist. As a result of their incompetence, Westfield Veterinary Group used up precious time. I was not able to see the oncologist until the first week in March, when my cat was deathly ill. Even if treatment had been an option, he would have been too weak to withstand it. This cat, now 11 years old, was my feline support during my bereavement from my husband's death from cancer. He has succumbed to the same disease and I had to watch him die. The timing couldn't be worse as February is the anniversary of my husband's death. This practice is interested only in money, not your pet. If you want a healthy pet, this is definitely not the practice to visit. read more

This review is a direct reply to the business owner. I'm not inclined to let this go and allow you to spread misinformation. We did take into consideration that Scrambles might have an upper respiratory infection as you suggested. We took him to another vet in Millburn. They took his temperature (normal) and blood work (normal). We asked them to test to see if he had an infection. He did not. What they did determine was that he suffered neurological damage and was totally blind in his right eye. Even your doctor who saw Scrambles on Saturday said he was a perfectly healthy cat. So clearly something happened between Saturday and Monday while he was in your care. It's really disappointing that you don't want to take any accountability. After several days of syringe feeding Scrambles and hoping he'd turn around, he could not eat or drink on his own. Last Friday we made the very tough decision to euthanize him. I feel this is something that could have been avoided if your people took my concerns on Saturday night seriously, but you did not. read more

After hours passed by I called back to follow up. I was told that Dr. Harbin left for the day and would maybe call me back on Monday. I first brought my Dachshund into the ER on 2/15/20 for breathing difficulties. She was there 3 days and received excellent care from Drs Deming and Coughlin. I had to bring her back again on 3/29/20 because she was having trouble breathing again. I dropped her off at 8:30 pm and by 3:30 am she was worse than when I brought in and had to be euthanized. The doctor who saw her, Sommerkorn I don't even see on their website and on the invoice it doesn't indicate if she is a DVM. I am very disappointed in the treatment she received. I was trying to decide if I should go to Red Bank or Westfield. I went to Westfield because she was there before and was treated well. Obviously I made the wrong choice. Very disappointed. My kitten had an eye infection, and I was charged $58 for eye drops. I checked with three other vet offices in the area, and the price for this same medication is $24 dollars. Petmeds and Chewy charge 14 dollars for it. When I called to speak to the manager regarding their pricing, my concerns were dismissed. The only reason I didn't read the reviews first is because they were recommended by another reputable vet. Big mistake!!!!! I let the vet know never to recommend them again. We brought our bird in for an emergency visit on Saturday. The vet took a blood test and let us know she would email us on Sunday even though they are not open, which we thought was great because we were obviously there for an EMERGENCY. We did not hear from her all day Sunday, not even a courtesy email. We waited Monday until noon to check in, and the practice manager let us know that the vet we saw was not in until Tuesday at 2pm and they had no one else to read the results for us. The best they could do was "text her" but they stated they aren't accountable for her and she's just "on their payroll". They were combative and not helpful at all. We brought her in for an emergency visit on Saturday and now we are not able to get results until Tuesday late in the day? That does not seem like an emergency if you ask me. Thankfully our bird has made it through the nights and we can pay another vet to interpret the results for us right away. We will NEVER be back here and you should 100% find a different emergency hospital if you want any sense of urgency read more

So grateful for the staff here. We have brought our two pups here in emergency situations and we were so pleased to have amazing doctors help us. It's so comforting to know we have a 24 hour emergency service at any time. We have prioritized getting pet insurance since the start we got both of our pups and all expenses were competently covered from xrays to bloodwork and medication. All doctors have taken the time to follow up, give through explanations, and took the time to answer all questions and concerns. This place provides amazing service and gives excellent care. I called Westfield Veterinary group in Union,NJ to see if they could see a stray cat that was bleeding from the mouth.They told me that they didn't have regular appointment but could see the stray under emergency appointment.I asked them since it is a stray cat if they could charge me for regular visit but they told me No. The manager was trying to explain that they don't have a business model to offer different prices for stray cats.She told me that I can try other places but their vet office can't have me pay regular price because since they operate 24 hours that their overhead costs more. In summary either I can pay emergency price or they cannot help me. I tried to plea with her that this is stray cat and that I bring my indoor cats there so I am their regular customer. After lengthy conversation they would not help, I told her that I am not looking for free service but regular visit pricing.I feel like that this place cares more about the money than the poor animals. After five dogs and 22 years I'm very disappointed at how they handled the last visit. Called to my dog scheduled for surgery. But I was never informed that they were backed up for three months. I scheduled a wellness visit and left without an appointment. After over a week of trying to reach the person who schedules surgeries and then the manager with much difficulty. I was advised their was nothing they could do. So I wasted my time and a visit without having a surgery scheduled. I explained myself several times event times the doctor of our situation, but nobody ever advised us of the backlog. I believe it's their obligation to advise their patrons if they are experiencing a backlog of surgeries. I very surprised at the attitude of the manager response with no attempt to at least meet us half way or resolve this issues. I took my bird here who was touched by my cat - he was 'playing with him'. Yes my mistake that my cat was able to get to him, but no visible scratches no bleeding, but I wanted him checked to be sure. They gave him an exam and nothing further said he was ok. Two days later he started having seizures so I rushed him to another vet and they were surprised they didn't give him antibiotics. They said at the time, it could have saved him. But it was too late once I brought him to the second vet and sadly he passed. The second vet told me that its routine to give antibiotics since a cats touch is very toxic to a bird and most likely he got an infection from that and it took a few days to get into his system. My cat had an episode of bloody diarrhea while at the groomer. I immediately called the Vet group in Westfield who has cared for him for years and was instructed to go to their emergency clinic in Union, a 45 minute ride from the groomer located in Clark and 35 minutes from my home in Fanwood (seems longer with a possibly hemorrhaging cat in the back seat). Union was alerted to my imminent arrival and registering him went very quickly. Oliver and I were quickly escorted to an examining room where a tech took his vitals and without communicating further left the room. We then waited, and waited, and waited with no further word from anyone. After close to a half hour I inquired of the front office staff and only then was told that they had five emergencies before us. I waited more for a total of more than an hour more with no further word from anyone much less inquiring if Oliver was even still alive. (He was fortunately.) After a total of an hour and a half waiting for "emergency" service from an obviously inadequately staffed service with lousy customer relations skills a substantially improving Oliver and I left with no further help from the staff. This was a very big departure from the standard of service we ever received in Westfield. We will continue Oliver's care in Westfield but I am now searching for other emergency facilities in case very senior Oliver ever needs emergency care again and Westfield cannot/will not provide needed emergency care. read more
