The only reason this place gets two stars is because our waitress was competent. Other than that, pretty much the worst pub grub I have ever had. I think the pizza crust is frozen and the appetizer sampler I had was very over fried. A lot of it was completely inedible. I don't think this place is good for anything other than drinking and to be honest, there are much more colorful places in Havertown to drink. Sure they might just be shot and a beer joints, but at least they have some sort of character. This place was completely bland from top to bottom. Running an errand in Havertown, my partner & I discovered this place & got take-out from here (Covid-19 pandemic still in affect). The staff were cordial & wore masks while taking our orders & preparing the food. We both ordered the King Kong Double Burger which consisted of 2 large sirloin patties on LeBus rolls with thoroughly cooked bacon & cheddar cheese (replacing the American cheese). An ample amount of French fries came with both orders. The burger patties were freshly made, not frozen, cooked perfectly - not too pink, nor too charred. Half a burger was an ample meal & had the 2nd halves the next day. I've no idea how Westgate Pub was like when you could dine-in, but for a take-out meal I'd recommend it. read more

This neighborhood pub is one of the best around. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. They are truly a great establishment from the homemade food to the great beer selection. Really disappointing. Took my 8 year old son for dinner on a Friday at 5:30pm. I ordered the Westgate Italian hoagie, he had a BLT. It took 30 minutes to get our food. His BLT looked fine, but my hoagie was pathetic. It was just a few pieces of lunch meat on a bare roll, no seasoning at all. No lettuce, tomato, onion, nothing (it bears repeating, it took 30 minutes to get a BLT and this sandwich to our table). There was a soggy 1/8th of a pickle on the plate. For some reason, there were also two stray spaghetti noodles on my plate under the potato chips. Our server disappeared for long periods of time, to the point where the bartender came over to take our payment so we could leave. This place used to be the go-to place for a cheap, excellent Italian hoagie. I don't know what happened, hopefully it was an off-night. I felt especially bad, because my son wanted to go to Jim's Steaks, but I insisted on Westgate. Won't make that mistake again. read more

Big disappointment. Not really much else to say. I got a simple meatball grinder, no special instructions, a plain old meatball grinder. The meatballs seemed to come out of a bag from the supermarket. They had no taste. The sauce had no taste. 1 star due to the mozzarella cheese being melted on top. Side of fries: 12 of them. Not kidding. $10.45 for slop. Not to mention everything else on the menu is overpriced. I remember the days that this was a go to establishment. The Westgate has been around for a long time and I think they have gotten complacent. It has been a long time since I've been and my brother told me they had a good beer selection for mix and match six packs. Off I go for some take out. The first thing that struck me was all the empty slots in the beer cooler, apparently there was a decent selection but no-one is interested in restocking (I thought this might just be bad timing on my part but I went back a few weeks later to see the same thing). Now while I'm trying to put together a six pack that I'll be happy with I begin to pay more and more attention to the animated diatribe coming from the cook. It seems he hates working there, hates the boss, isn't sure that he should be cooking anymore and would rather work full time at his other job. It was amusing until I realized he was preparing my food at the time and that sort of changed my perspective on the situation. When I got home with a lack luster six pack to open my food I found a cheeseburger that was uncooked on the inside - not rare, uncooked. Also it had no cheesehe fries were overcooked and my wife's buffalo chicken wrap tasted terrible. I too wish the cook worked full time at his other job so long as it is far away from me and not in life safety. Bar food is about all we have in Delaware county so these places are a dime a dozen. This place has some very decent italian food. I would recommend the chix parm, however make sure you are hungry as this is quite large. I don't know what nicole is talking about as there are two parking lots near here, one between the chinese food store and the pub and the other between CVS and the pub. Plenty of parking. I began my first Sunday of the NFL season giving Westgate Pub a try. It's been a long time since I've patronized the establishment. I went pizza, wings and mussels in red. Have been going here for years for their great tuna grinders, pizza, and antipasta. Big disappointment tonight with our to-go order. The tuna in the grinder seems to have gone from white albacore with a nice mix of mayo to chunk lite with very little mayo. Probably a little healthier but when you are looking for that great tuna grinder once in a while you want the real deal. Also, the onions and tomatoes were placed on top of the melted cheese. They changed that too. You have to have that stuff baked in under the cheese for a proper grinder! They used to have pretty thick and cheesy pan pizza. The pizza, although tasty, is now thinner and more like Greek style with well-baked-on cheese. Not nearly as good as it used to be. Luckily, they seemed to have kept their creamy Italian dressing for the salad, but the salad itself was pretty small for a to-go order. First things first, BEST TUNA MELTS EVER. My only complaint with this restaurant is that their soda always tastes kind of weird, kind of like they used too much syrup or something. Other than that, this place is wonderful. While living in Havertown, my boyfriend and I ate here almost weekly. The last time I reviewed this place, I said that I would NOT return. Well, I have changed my tune and have since returned several times. For the past two weeks, I have been eating at Westgate primarily for their Early Bird dinners (2-5 pm). It's a great deal. For $12.95, you get a choice of either soup or salad, the entree, a choice of two vegetables or a side of pasta, a beverage, garlic bread, and dessert. The portions are quite ample, which I like, because I don't walk out of there still hungry. I always order the Chicken Piccata and it's consistently delicious. Their soups are excellent and homemade. My favorite is the New England clam chowder. The service has been tremendous and all of the waitresses are absolutely wonderful. So I just had west gate a few days ago for the 3rd time. I gave them 3 chances and everytime the food ingot sucked. Meatball sandwich? Horrible. French fries? horrible. Pizza? Meh. Buffalo chicken? Oh you better believe that's horrible. Their buffalo sauce sure doesn't taste like any I've had before...and not In a good way. It's more like a mix of a few flavors....BBQ sauce, smokey mesquite, and fecal matter. The one good thing I can say is the chicken parm isn't too bad. read more

Great service and value for the money. Daily specials and happy hour prices are great. It's a nice, clean neighborhood bar and grill that doesn't pretend to be anything else. They have multiple TVs and will happily accommodate requests for various baseball games, etc, to be shown. We've always had great service and will definitely be back. read more

This place is old and dingy as heck! ...with bland food now. They updated their menu and now the food is just awful. Not only are my favourite dishes and appetizers gone, the taste has just gone out the window as well. The only thing that remained the same was the excellent service. Went there for Happy Hour. Great deal, very reduced drink prices and half price appetizers. Happy Hour is 4-6 Monday thru Friday. Food was good with exception of the calamari. It was a bit rubbery. Everything else we had was very good. Very friendly staff. Will go there again. read more

This place is just OK. Food is average; portion size is good and prices are not too bad either. We went on on Tuesday night and the place was about half-full. I agree- parking is definitely not an issue- 2 parking lots with plenty of space! This is a great place for groups or to even go and sit at the bar by yourself and watch a game. Extensive menu with HUGE portions including appetizers, sandwiches, pizza, dinners and dessert. There is a full bar with tap beer and over 50 varieties in bottles (beer and food both available for takeout.) It's just not the same since the change of owners. WAS a great "old school DELCO" restaurant/bar with great everyday food, enormous portions and family friendly pricing; but there WAS a twist... The previous owner would put up CRAZY Four Seasons type specials (pork medallions with a plum reduction served over risotto with fresh steamed squash). At first I thought this was some clown with a sharpie pulling a prank- it was not; and now it's gone. The menu has grown to the point of confusing, the quality of the food is slipping, the prices have risen, and they have lost us as 2-3 times a month customers. 3 stars and falling...I hope the owner is reading this. When we ordered I got a Caesar salad, and my colleague ordered a Grilled Chicken Panini. We got our food after a 20 minute wait; the salad was huge, almost too huge for one person to consume. It still looked delicious, with the fresh lettuce, herb tossed croutons, creamy Caesar dressing, and appetizing Parmesan cheese it was hard not to enjoy it. My friend on the other hand wasn't as pleased; she thought it was okay, but she said it was hardly a Panini. I saw another man arrive and order a cheese steak. It looked scrumptious, sirloin meat on an Italian roll; it came with chips and a pickle. I walked over to the man and asked him how it was. He replied by saying, "It was very good, I want another one." The Chefs have been there for years, as most of the Staff, and they take great pride in their work. The food was very affordable of what I saw; the salad was only $7 and the Panini was $8. The décor was nice but I couldn't really find a theme. The glasses and silverware as I saw were clean and sparkling. The bathroom you could tell it was just cleaned. I enjoyed how there was a variety of booths and tables; it gave it a little bit of a mix up. The Skinny: Westgate Pub has a friendly, clean, great service, helpful atmosphere and and has a widespread menu, and a large selection bar. I gave it three out of five stars because even though the service and food was a delectable meal, I felt as though I didn't enjoy the options for foods; I would have preferred something more out of the box. We've been there a handful of times, but to my knowledge the restaurant switched hands end of last year or so. The last time we were there we thought the marinara sauce was way too sweet. This time: Service was average. Food was good. We had chicken parm which was served with soup or salad and garlic bread. Beef barley soup was good, three large pieces of garlic bread -- very flavorful. Chicken parm was huge and enough to share. Only about six beers on tap, not competitive with the rest of the area. It can be, shall we say "intimate" when busy since the tables are very close to each other. It fit just right for a weekday meal out. And was a bargain since we didn't need two entrees. read more

They used to have really good pizza when we lived in the area and since my wife was close by she decided to stop by and bring one home. It was the smallest "large" pizza either of us had ever seen. It was greasy and even though we requested "light cheese" it was swimming in cheese. We ended up paying $12.50 for a tiny pizza that wasn't made to our specifications. I came here to get takeout and ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. What I got were chicken tenders coated in spicy honey mustard sauce. When I called back, the guy who answered the phone said we got the right thing, thats just how they make their buffalo wing sauce. I went back a few weeks later and ordered the same thing and sure enough, honey mustard sauce with a kick. Odd. This is a great neighborhood restaurant with family-friendly options and a bar for the buds. The service was cordial and respectful and the price range was very reasonable. Don't count on getting a seat on busy fridays, though, because it is a tight squeeze to begin with. The philly cheesesteak stromboli is one of the best around and is recommended to all. When you are in town looking for a place with great strombolis and friendly service, stop by the Westgate Pub. This small restaurant mainly serves italian specials such as pizza, pasta, pub sandwiches, cheesesteaks, and other pub classics. There is an early bird special and excellent options for catering and taking out including good wings and chicken parm. The quality of the food was enjoyable but in our case one person got the wrong order. The service was descent, but with little tables to serve, waitresses get around quickly, or in our situation, waitress. If you are ordering-out they have a different door to walk into, but the space in the eat-in is very tight. Let's just say every square inch is utilized. The girl's bathroom had 3 stalls and a plethora of paper towels. Everywhere there was great lighting and the noise level stayed very calm throughout our experience, in fact, I may have been the loudest one there! The decor is minimal but there are many TV's at the bar showcasing a college softball game or the wheel of fortune. If you live in the area, you are sure to see a familiar face. There is sure to be at least one family dining there with kids in sports uniforms on the weekends, so the atmosphere is very casual. Make sure you bring a jacket after the sun sets on a chilly day, because you may be sat right by the door that often opens as others walk in. There is very easy and convenient parking right next door and they have a cute specials board that adds to the personable feel. Prices range from a $7 appetizer or a $4 soup to a $18 shrimp scampi on pasta. Tables and silverware were clean and the bar looked presentable, however, I did not get a chance to sit in their chairs, but rather a booth. read more

Westgate Pub has a very friendly, clean, great service, well lit atmosphere and is a High Quality Restaurant with an extensive menu, and well supplied Bar. My son went there with friends when he turned 21 recently, and told us how great the food, service and drinks were. We went there as a Family for dinner and were surprised at the juicy half pound angus burgers called Pub burgers, that came with not overly greasy or salty fries, fresh lettuce, pickles, onions, and large juicy slices of tomatoes all for $8.50. Our daughter had fresh grilled flounder with two sides and salad and was quite pleased as well. The homemade Chicken pastina soup wasn't salty and was loaded with meat. We have done Take Out Dinners several times and have always been pleased! When we all ordered the 5oz New York Strip Steaks medium, that is just how they came, and they were full of a balanced steak sauce flavor, and every mouthful melted in our mouths. There was no fat or gristle. In other words, they were cooked to perfection and came with soup, two sides and a very fresh garden salad all for $11.95 each. Now that is value! The owner checks each order completely to make sure that it was done exactly as we ordered and that it meets with his high standards. The Chefs have been there for years, as has most of the Staff, and they take great pride in what they serve, whether it is a Top Sirloin Steak Sandwich, Butterfly Shrimp, Fried Oysters, Shrimp Scampi, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Babyback Ribs, Hoagies, Club Sandwiches and so much more. Considering the size of the kitchen, in my opinion, they cook everything as if you were in a Three Star Restaurant. These Chefs are highly trained and experienced! They are not just short order cooks. There is a large selection of Beer and high label liquor. The mixed drinks are Perfect. There is no cheating on quality or amount for the reasonable prices. You get your money's worth! They also have over 150 Cold Domestic and Imported Beer Choices in the Take Out Area. Besides that, there are fancy deserts that change every day. Rice Pudding is always there, Cheese Cake, Carrot Cake, Mud Pie, Black Forest Cake....yes these are deserts that you would find in a very expensive Restaurant! The slices of cake are around $5.75. My boyfriend and I actually went there twice this week. The food is REALLY good and reasonably priced! We both enjoyed both of our meals a lot. The decor and overall appearance is lacking a bit and as most older establishments, could use a face lift. The biggest problem we had was the staff!!! The waitresses are obnoxiously loud, inattentive, and down right gross. Tonight they were lifting up their pants talking, basically yelling, about body hair and all kinds of things you DON'T want to hear while you're trying to enjoy a meal out. This place used to be one of our favorites for take out. The food was good, the service and accuracy was terrible. We had 4 times in a row of take out that our orders were not accurate. Each time they had an excuse. The straw that broke the camel's back was the following incident. We ordered food via phone for take out. They told us 20 minutes. We showed up 20 minutes later and they told us that our food wasn't ready because they didn't have what we ordered. When asked why they didn't call us back and inform us or ask if we wanted anything us, the response was "our phone system was down". We were rudely told we could order something else but there was nothing they could do. No apology and no offer of compensation for our wasted time if we ordered something else. Needless to say, we walked out and have never been back. It's a shame because the food is good, but the customer service and accuracy of your order is consistency terrible. read more

my mother and I haven't been to westgate in years, and decided to give it one more try. our sampler did not have the zucchini bites, my mothers favorite! we also got the hot roast beef sandwich, which one would think that it comes with gravy, and would be hot. it was cold, and mushy with no gravy. our fries and calamari were both under cooked and soggy. overall, we are both very disappointed, and most likely will not be returning. read more

Have been a loyal Pub regular since I was a kid. In my opinion they HAD the best cheesesteak in Philly. When friends would come from out of town, I would steer away from the tourist spots and bring them for a real Philly cheesesteak. When the new owners took over, it was nice to see they were cleaning the place up and making some very needed changes, I told the bartender on one of my visits, tell the new owner do not change the cheesesteaks. Lo and behold something has changes. The new rolls are good, but they have changed the steak and also the preparation. The old steaks use to be nice fried pieces of meat. Although the steaks are still huge, it seems they must add water on the grill to speed up the cooking time which makes for a horrible steamed cheesesteak. Fries have been good even on take-out and the burgers do look good. Another poster mentioned about take-out being poor. I was disappointed on a recent visit because we got ribs that were great, but all of the sides were missing. If I am going to pay full price for a menu item and not take up a seat for an hour, at least make sure everything I would get if I ate in is there. (Bread, Salad Dressing, Cole Slaw). hopefully enough people feel the same way as I do and the old cheesesteaks will come back. read more
