    Pretty basic mall interior

This mall needs a serious makeover. The anchor stores are lacking quality merchandise but the candy store is great. Disappointing quality merchandise in downtown Seattle. The best part was the monorail upstairs.

The mall is great with great stores and a nice smaller size which I like. However my whole life it's always had a weird vibe to it that I can't quite put into words, almost like its empty and full at the same time, and there's constantly construction, renovations and changes. I've never been in here where every space/store was fully open and had people happily wandering around. Maybe thats because it is in an area thats always changing and people pass through here as for the metro station and don't really pay attention to the mall. Anyways its a great mall otherwise, clean, modern feeling, great location and access to transportation etc. but like I was trying to say, this mall and the surrounding area needs a little more love attention and is still figuring itself out. It has lots of potential.

    Dirty door handle

This is disgusting and dirty. I walked pass this door every day and this food stains looking thing was here over 3 weeks. How do you expect me to open the door with this dirty handle. My colleague actually touched it without noticing when she open the door. I try leave a comment but no way i can reach out. I thought cleaning the door handle is a basic general routine thing especially Covid happened. Can someone please clean it? Please..

Busy mall with Nordstrom, Macy's, Saks, AMC, restaurants & shops. Very big, clean & modern. City is using it as a cooling center, as most Seattle homes don't have air conditioning.

Let's admit it, the true reason anyone knows of Westlake Center is the monorail. One of only two stops made by the World Fair means of travel to show everyone Seattle's downtown and the ever famous Space Needle. The mall, itself offers three floors of mostly closed, dark shops. The remaining stores seem to lack the luster that attracts the masses. It's clean and a nice place to help keep you warm on a cold, winter walk, or help when you need a moment to escape from the heat or rays of the sun. A food court on the top floor, where the monorail also boards and unloads is available, accessible from the inside as well as a staircase from outside, allowing others to skip the sad mall altogether.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!

Meh! For a place right smack in the middle of everything in downtown Seattle, this place is crappy. They are sort of picking it up with remodels and stuff. But still. It's massive. A lot of empty spots/ not that great stores. A food court: monorail station. Literally a very rundown looking tourist spot with Zara and Saks Off 5th inside. Pressed juice is there too. I stopped here after Nordstrom pickups recently. But really. Nothing you'd miss. They should just put this on the list of many tear downs in Seattle and rebuilt it. The Starbucks outside is always the dirtiest one! Busy! Smelly. And a whole lot of homeless people high on drugs. If it wasn't for the giant beautiful Christmas tree outside, I wouldn't come here past sun down! Aka 4 pm! Just weirdly unsafe! And unnecessary!

Shopping in Downtown! A great multi level shopping center in the downtown area with a movie theater. Clean and modern environment to get your shopping groove on that is just a few minutes walk to get chowder when you are done. I prefer outdoor shopping centers but understand that not all cities enjoy the stable weather we have in Southern California. On the contrary, this indoor shopping center provided warmth for us in the low 40 degree temps of Seattle. AOK in my book!

On top of that, the layout isn't at all confusing but because everything looks so similar it's surprisingly easy to get turned around and lose your sense of direction. Many of the stores were uncomfortably warm, which made it hard to spend much time inside without wanting to leave. The crowds only make things worse, people seem completely unaware of their surroundings and stand directly behind you, constantly cutting you off or walking straight into you without a second thought. For a place that's supposed to be a premium shopping destination, the overall experience felt chaotic, uncomfortable, and yet boring. In every store, employees kept asking if we needed help, even after we repeatedly said no. Prices were consistently high for no apparent reason, and it was all frustrating enough that we ended up not buying anything at all. One nice thing I can say is that it is very tidy.

Parking has been consistently stubborn. The parking garage I used on my visit today, North Garage on Tuesday 24 March 2026, had themed levels. I opted for the C Level which was color of pink and animal of cow. At the elevator, a cow "moo" sounded when I pressed the button for the elevator. By this level, more spaces were opened up, so a better day for parking of recent times. Walkways in the village are open to the natural elements. Some of the businesses have umbrellas available for use in shopping. The grounds and pedestrian spaces have tended to be clean in my experiences. In 2010 and 2011 when I was a student at the University of Washington, I walked to University Village so parking was a non-issue, those were quicker turn around in time visits though I did not have the carrying/storage space of a vehicle.

There was plenty of seating around outside for people to lounge around with their families. It appears pretty kid friendly too, with some water installations for children to jump around. There are also courtesy umbrellas to use for inclement weather - a thoughtful gesture. I'm not sure how they manage cold-ish weather though. Probably not as fun to shop when it's freezing out, although this is a pretty rare situation. I also spotted a security guard, but I felt pretty safe throughout my visit.

It's a one-stop shop for groceries, baked goods, bubble tea and other Asian drinks, multiple Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean restaurants, a Chinese apothecary, and home goods (from furniture and decor to a kitchen stove store), a couple hair salons, a nail salon, karaoke restaurant and last but not least a bank branch. 99 Ranch is a big draw as the largest Chinese supermarket in the nearby area, both it and Mei Wa bakery next door carry Chinese steamed buns and pastries. I'll be honest in terms of selection, prices (and flavors/techniques for Mei Wa), these are kinda average though are enough to satisfy if you have a craving. Mama Dough and Seoul Tofu are solid restaurants from eating at each 2-3 times. Mia Sugarcane produces some delicious sugarcane drinks though nowadays on the pricier side. Boba Tea Lab is pretty standard bubble tea. I've yet to try Big Bowl Spicy Cuisine and several others, including LiuYiShou Hotpot which is one of the newer restaurants, that also has 22 other locations in North America including NYC, SF, Chicago, Boston, and Vancouver and Toronto areas in Canada. I am fond of urban architecture, but in ways that helps preserve the historical bones of the structure and continues to contribute to the neighborhood. Best summed up from an excerpt from the Dunn & Hobbes website, "Chophouse Row puts the "mixed" in "mixed-use", featuring state-of-the-art creative office space, an extensive retail marketplace and residential penthouses in the heart of the Pike-Pine neighborhood of Capitol Hill. The project combines the historic Chophouse building, built as an auto parts store in 1924 and used for decades as iconic band practice space, with a new office tower that features open plan workspaces with floor to ceiling windows and exposed steel structure. Salvaged materials were used throughout and the building features highly sustainable energy and water systems. A pedestrian mews and mid-block courtyard connects Chophouse Row through to Dunn & Hobbes' other 12th Avenue Marketplace properties." I do miss shuttered businesses such as Amandine, By Tae, Petti-Rosso, and Kurt Farm Shop, but I enjoy revisiting to see what new businesses have taken their place and newer ones to wander through. A big plus is the juxtaposition of the surrounding mixed materials and the sky above. It brings out my inner photographer. Also, the open courtyard is a great getaway especially during warmer months with their variety of outdoor seating and even during crisp autumn evenings when the firepit is lit.
