I have been coming to this store for a couple of years and i can definitely see how the store has always been changing.They have large quantities of quality wines and beer. For example a couple of days ago i noticed that they had changed the shelf behind the counter and made a new one with multiple different champagnes like Dom Perrion and other high quality stuff. I have stopped at this store many times over the years. Used to have a family managing it and greeting customers. Now they have just a single cashier who does not speak English. Today I bought some beer and a snack item. The item was clearly priced at $2.29.  The cashier rang up $3.15. When I pointed out the 86c overcharge he immediately said it was the tax. Tax in Maryland is 6% so that could not be it. Then he said the "boss" does all the pricing and he could not fix it. I asked him for the boss' name and phone number - he declined saying the boss does not want him to give that out. What to do? I guess either pay the overcharge or go some place else. Sad move after all these years. I noticed that this Yelp page is 'unclaimed'. I guess that says it all. They don't care! read more

Years ago I bought Manischewitz concord grape wine there. Today I stopped by and asked if they had any? The counter clerk (his mask not covering his nose) was quick to say they didn't have any. I asked if he had any sherry and he pointed to the rear of the store. I found the sherry and guess what I found right next to the sherry? Answer: The Manischewitz Kosher Wine. It is my opinion that if you are going to run a wine store - it would be a good idea to be a bit more helpful and attentive if you want to build up repeat business. Hmmmm.... The only reason this store gets 2 stars instead of 1 is the very nice owner. While I agree with the only other yelper who has reviewed this store, that the owner is a great guy,- that's really not why you go shopping for wine... The wine selection is not only limited but consists of mostly "off-brands" (ie. no Parker, WS, WE ratings). When the store DOES have a good wine, it puts a stratospheric price on it which automatically discourages further shopping! For example, yesterday I saw a wonderful Cabernet for sale there for $88. That exact SAME wine (and vintage) sold for $53 (on sale from $60) at the local Montgomery County Wine & Liquor store! (ck it out: Louis M. Martini Monte Rosso 2005) read more

Friendly service, horrible prices. I just moved to Bethesda and stopped by this store for a six pack, and found everything to be 2-3 dollars more than normal. A 6 pack of Lagunitas ran me almost $15! The owner was really nice, took my six pack up to the counter for me while I continued to look around and asked me if I needed help finding anything. I would definitely go back if the prices were a little more reasonable. read more

Let me tell you something about this business. There was a mixup with them via Drizly - an outfit that they do not control. Not only did the owner and his wife come to my house personally to apologize but he returned 15 minutes later with a gift bag and an additional bottle of wine, and then promised to do all my deliveries personally from now on. I will be going to this store every moment I can. There are people trying to run a small business in this world and some do it the right way. This is one of them. read more

The manager was very unhelpful. I got the wrong bottle of wine and came back in less than 10mins and the cashier said that he could do an exchange. I told him that we wanted to do a refund he had to call the manager. The manager spoke with him for about 10nins. He then gave me the phone an AJ stating that he could do a refund on Monday and I could just leave the bottle of wine. I told him that I was visiting and didn't have the time for that. AJ instead on that being the option that I had because the cashier wasn't taught to do so. He told me that he had signs stating that they don't do refunds it exchanges. We looked inside and outside the store for the sign and it was no where to be found! I told him that I have looked everywhere with the cashier and we couldn't fine a sign. I will spread the word of the service and lies that was bestowed upon me at that store. AJ sir you need to give better customer service!! read more

This place has a great selection of craft beer and it is getting better all the time. AJ is super responsive to customer requests and will try to get you anything you want. What the above reviewers don't understand is: 1) Packaged beer is marked up 25% in Montgomery County by the County government. Beer will always be more expensive in Montgomery County until that is changed (this is directed at the fellow who just moved to Bethesda). 2) The County's own stores undercut independent stores, so their prices are always lower. I think this is pretty unfair, and explains the second review above. It's one thing for the County to mark up prices, it's another for it to be competing directly with small businesses. Hopefully this will be changing in the next year or so, but until then, support your local independent craft beer stores! read more
