We went the night of the Knicks ticker tape parade, and seeing the city skyline lit up in orange and blue from above was such a cool experience. The views alone are worth the visit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Westlight seems to be one of Williamsburg's go-to spots for quick bites, cocktails, and meeting up with friends. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is trendy and intimate, though a bit dark.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is enclosed, but there are doors that lead out to an outdoor deck with additional seating and even more incredible views.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It looked like certain sections of the deck close at different times, but there was still plenty of space to enjoy the scenery. Our server, Tyler, was super chill and provided great service throughout the evening. We ordered the calamari, fries, tikka chicken skewers, shrimp dumplings, and chicken empanadas. Everything was flavorful and enjoyable. My only minor complaint is that the fries were the super skinny kind, which aren't usually my favorite, but they were still delicious. Westlight completely turned the night around. Between the food, service, ambiance, and that stunning skyline view, it's easy to see why it's such a popular Williamsburg hotspot. After notifying the server, we were surprised at the attitude of the server who refused to make us another drink or give us a virgin drink. After explaining multiple times the drink indeed had alcohol in it since it smelled like alcohol and tasted like it, he opted to give us a lemonade or water, but no mocktail... I wasn't expecting such rude behavior from our server. We did order the truffle fries and hummus with pita, which was good. I am staying at the hotel and had excellent service on a Sunday evening with no reservation. I was seated within minutes and greeted by my hostess within a few minutes more. Bits of salmon cured in mezcal with cilantro crema, micro greens, some hot peppers and an orange caviar that popped in my mouth and was so good. It is expensive but the tostados were only $24 and worth every penny. I had a beer, Greenpoint Harbor IPA. It was good although $11 for a draft beer is pretty steep for me. It actually paired well with the tostados. All in all, I would recommend Westlight, especially if you're staying at the William Vale. read more

The food is where Westlight really shines. The fries taste like a totally elevated version of McDonald's fries with the most addictive oil that gives just the right kick. The minty yogurt sauce that comes with them takes the fries to another level. The empanadas were absolutely divine with unbelievable seasoning that made every bite memorable. The jerk oxtail sliders were another stand out. They were incredibly smoky with just the perfect subtle hint of spice at the end. There are many rooftops and balcony's in NYC, I have been on many. Easy to reach, just get to the L train and you are halfway there. Service is very very nice, this staff hustles and it shows. The drinks are not so great..realize that you are there for the views & atmosphere and not for the quality of the watered down. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The terrace, on this chilly end of October eve, provided blankets but not a warmer or fire pit in sight.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wonder, and assume, it is a code violation..maybe because it is up so high and is a hotel and would be a danger ? Following Will's recipe for success, the staff would discuss how this flow could be improved, which in turn would make the flow less chaotic and improve functionality. Although there was plenty to choose from on the drink menu I enjoyed the special treatment of having a special creation made. I'm not really a rooftop bar type of guy, but Westlight was an enjoyable enough experience. When I showed up to the lobby, there was a long line to even get on the elevator, and I thought about just ditching it and going elsewhere. However, my friend reminded me of an ages-old adage: "the longer the line the better the time." I'm not quite sure Westlight completely lived up to that quotation, but the twilight view of the city made it a worthwhile venture nonetheless. Other than that, there was the aforementioned long-line to get in, a long line to purchase vastly overpriced drinks, and it was a little too crowded for my personal comfort. I really enjoyed the rooftop terrace with the comfy lounge seats and big open turf area, which is also dog-friendly.
