The Nines is such a beautiful, cozy, speakeasy-like spot, perfect for date-night. They had live piano and the noise level was quite high, but it had a romantic, intimate atmosphere. Came here with my husband for date night. We had a reservation and the hostess was friendly with the people ahead of us but very cold to my husband and me. Don't know what that was about but I didn't want that to ruin the vibes so I let it go. We were seated and ordered a few drinks. The waitress was very lovely and had great recommendations. We ended up with just drinks and were pleased with them, I especially loved my martini. They served us a few snacks as well which was a much needed appetizer before our later dinner. The music was great and the ambiance was very fun. Not as much people watching given the layout of the space but very fun for date night. They had jazz night going on and charge a cover for that so my friend and I opted not to pay that and just listen to the jazz while sitting in the area where you can't see the musicians. I truly thought this place was a 10/10! The staff was super nice, attentive to drink and food orders and generally added a positive vibe to the experience. I had the poached salmon which I thought was some of the best salmon I ever had. The steak was also really good along with the wedge salad. It was a bit pricey for the portion sizes but definitely worth a visit to try the cocktails and food on a nice night out. This was the one reservation I had during my trip, and it happened to be in a part of town I wasn't familiar with. Getting here wasn't too bad though, and I arrived right on time for my 5p reservation. Entrance is under the ACME sign which is next to the red door that has a '9' above, which may be confusing to some on their first try. When you enter, you are right in the Parlor area where the host stand is off to the side. I was walked into the next room where the piano was, given a nice seat facing the bar. Going a completely different direction than what I had intended, I went from the club sandwich to the wedge salad, and I actually ordered a drink (a low-proof French 75). A trio of snacks was brought out, and I attempted to delicately demolish the popcorn and some of the chips, leaving the olives. This wedge salad was really good! I figured I was eating junk so far throughout my stay that this would somehow balance it out. Having pears in it certainly didn't hurt, and this was a refreshing choice. It was a little on the salty side which may have been the dijon vinaigrette but was enjoyable overall. As for the drink, I paced this with my water and finished it right at the end of my salad. Someone started playing the piano before I received my food, and among the 'traditional' choices, I swear I heard an obscure favorite of mine (Where Is My Mind? from the Sucker Punch soundtrack) which was pretty cool and unexpected. The restroom was located right before the kitchen where the door is right off the dining room; a little awkward so just watch where you're going so you don't run into the staff. My experience with the staff, the food, the decor, all of the above was great. I certainly chose the right place for my one 'going-out' night, and I look forward to returning on a future visit. *Big thanks to Chris (Kris? I came for a late Friday dinner with a couple friends to celebrate a friend's birthday. Although we made a reservation, it still took a decent amount of time for us to get seated (~15 min). We were seated near the pianist, so it's definitely a bit on the louder side - wouldn't recommend this as a spot to catch up with friends but maybe more to enjoy the music (and you can request songs at least the day I was there which I regret not doing). We ordered some drinks - the Nines and Hotel Nacional. I quite liked the Nines - it was fruity and not too sweet, although my friend didn't love the aftertaste. I tried the Hotel Nacional which I had debated getting but glad I didn't since the taste more closely resembled cough syrup in my opinion. The drinks are also very much on the pricier end (think the Nines was ~$26), so not sure if I really think it's worth it. As for food, we just ordered a bunch of plates to share including the tuna tartare, Gnudi, duck pommes frites, and the fries. I didn't have super high expectations for the food but it was actually pretty good albeit small portions. The tuna tartare tastes fresh and has a slight fishy flavor (but in a good way in the sense that the natural flavor feels preserved/not overpowered by the other ingredients). The tuna was served with these small crackers that resemble mini bread slices that were a perfect thickness/crunch to pair with the tuna. I also loved the flavor and crisp of the duck pommes frites but sadly they only come with 3 thick slices of fries, so definitely felt a bit overpriced. The Gnudi was also not bad and were kind of gnocchi-like, so it was more on the heavier side. I personally don't love gnocchi but even I thought it was objectively pretty good and my friends loved it. Lastly, the fries were quite good - skinny and perfectly crisp. Overall, our experience was pretty good - I don't think this would be a regular spot just because of how expensive drinks/food are but would be good for special occasions. My main qualm was the service - it took forever for us to flag our waiter down to order more food and ask for the check even though we'd literally be making direct eye contact with them. Additionally, the restaurant doesn't allow for people to take pictures with flash and if you bring in a cake, they charge extra for if you eat it there - so just a heads up if you plan on having a birthday dinner, etc. here. read more

Awful experience here. Ambiance is overrated and outdated. Everything is billed as this incredible/classy decor, but it's not like that in person. Staff was so snobby and rude. Instead of welcoming you in, they say things like "Excuse me, you need to check in with me before going any further." Piano was playing versions of 2000s rap songs, food and drink menu did not match that atmosphere. This place is caught in between Instagram and a Membership only club, in the worst way possible. We got all dressed up for a night out at The Nines. The best reservation I could get was for 7:30 pm at the bar on the Saturday my friend was in town, and I do think the experience would have been better at a table. That being said, it was still perfect and had exactly the vibe I was looking for: upscale, old school NYC, classy. A great way to impress an out of town guest. Given that there are no prices on the online menu I was worried what it would cost here, but in the end it was a little over $100 for a shared appetizer, a main, a shared dessert, and two cocktails. "Reasonable". The only hiccup in the evening was when we wanted to order dessert and they told us they needed our seats - and there were multiple open bar seats at that point. We expressed our disappointment and they ultimately indulged us, but it did tarnish the evening. A fun spot to "hang out" given the music and vibe, but you aren't really allowed to "hang out " - eat and get out. The food and cocktails were good, but it was really about the experience, which I enjoyed despite the hiccup. read more

Went for Valentine's weekend, paid the cover, had entrees, a bunch of drinks, tipped 20%, and were there only an hour and a half before were told they needed our table for a reservation and rushed us out. No reservation at 11pm seemed to be coming either. Hostesses were rude all night. Waitress forgot things. Cocktails were watered down. Food portions were minuscule. The room is nice, but it's Disneyworld for influencers and tourists, not a real jazz club or supper club, and not real NYC. Was excited to go, now will not recommend it. read more

I heard the buzz about this spot and decided, I would come check it out. I tried emailing before hand for a dinner reservation, but they were sold out and asked me to try a walk-in. Reservations are strongly advised, at least two weeks prior and they go pretty fast, Notify on Resy could also be helpful. This past friday, I hosted ladies night and decided to visit The Nines post dinner, with three other ladies. Upon our arrival, at about 11:15pm, we noticed that the lines waiting outside was ridiculously long. However the door guy Frankie, was extra sweet to me and my party, and treated us with the utmost respect. Such a cool dude. We were asked to head in and wait downstairs, midway down, we realized The 9's which we wanted to visit was upstairs, so k told him, to which he responded- telling us to wait downstairs for some time whilst tables were being turned over. Less than 10 minutes later, my party and I were invited upstairs. The venue is a dream, a complete contrast once you step away from the noisy Noho neighborhood and into a romantic red dimly lit ambience that almost feels like you're transported back to the prohibition days, the venue has that old Hollywood glam feel, the artists on the piano and guitar were incredibly good, rendering classic melodious tunes. The music made me feel like I was a star in a movie (I know, I know) but it's a perfect place to get lost in the vibe and music, especially when a few drinks are involved. It's definitely a perfect romantic date night spot, recommend for lovers. Our server -Elsie, was a delight, truly pleasant and helpful and our table never lacked for nothing. Altogether we had a pretty good time, and Frankie, My guy! thanks for being absolutely wonderful. That being said, You must dress up to the nines when going to THE NINES. read more

What an adorable cocktail bar! My friends and I were only able to stay for drinks prior to dinner but the ambiance was amazing. Dimly lit and plush seating, the host was very accommodating and sweet. We were seated right near the entrance which was a great spot to view the bar and enjoy the Nines drink. ($17) Our waitress recommended this and we all ended up ordering it! If you're thinking about coming here for cocktails, don't. As walk ins, the friendly host was able to sit us at a table by the front bar. The cocktail list was limited to 9 or 10 traditional cocktails with their own twist. I first ordered a Rum cocktail with apricot, pineapple and lime, expecting sweetness but got a drink that tasted like a melted jolly rancher over ice. My second drink, a side car, was also overly sweet, as well as my wife's cosmo. Beyond the overwhelming sweetness, the cocktails were way over priced ($22 - 26 range). All drinks were served exactly the same. Stem cocktail glass with zero creativity or originality. The drinks were not even double strained, as there was small ice chips in the glass. The menu also didn't list the liquor brands, so it's hard to know if they're using quality spirits. As a "cocktail bar" your drinks need to be better than what we got. Especially if you're charging almost $30 for a drink. These cocktails tasted like drinks made at a college sports bar. Do yourself a favor, save your money and stay away. read more
