I'm not really a rooftop bar type of guy, but Westlight was an enjoyable enough experience. When I showed up to the lobby, there was a long line to even get on the elevator, and I thought about just ditching it and going elsewhere. However, my friend reminded me of an ages-old adage: "the longer the line the better the time." I'm not quite sure Westlight completely lived up to that quotation, but the twilight view of the city made it a worthwhile venture nonetheless. Other than that, there was the aforementioned long-line to get in, a long line to purchase vastly overpriced drinks, and it was a little too crowded for my personal comfort. Honestly, the experience at this rooftop completely changed my impression of the place. I went to the bar area to enjoy the Manhattan skyline view, and the hostess who stopped me was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. I understand that venues can have policies or reserved sections, but there's a respectful and professional way to communicate that to guests, and this was not it at all. Her attitude felt condescending and inappropriate, as if simply asking to access the area was a problem. Instead of making guests feel welcome, she made the atmosphere uncomfortable and hostile, the service at the entrance to the bar area was honestly embarrassing. A beautiful view means nothing when the staff treats people poorly. I left feeling frustrated and genuinely upset by how disrespectful the interaction was. I hope management trains their staff better because no guest should be spoken to that way. read more

This rooftop bar has one of the best views and ambiance around. Since it's in Brooklyn, you get a nice view of the Manhattan skyline. I really enjoyed the rooftop terrace with the comfy lounge seats and big open turf area, which is also dog-friendly. Unfortunately, the roof was just about to close when we arrived, so we had to relocate to the 22nd floor with the restaurant. Most of the seating area was reserved here, so it wasn't as enjoyable for our group to have some drinks while standing around. The cocktails were nothing too special here though. I've been wanting to visit Westlight for a while and I finally made it! We stopped by during sunset and we were able to get a table without a reservation despite the place being pretty busy. There are floor-to-ceiling windows around the place and I assume when it's nicer out, the windows are removed. We got the chicken empanadas and fries to share and they were pretty good! Had heard many good things about this place and was super excited to come here, but it definitely didn't live up to the hype. A rooftop bar on the 22nd floor of the William Vale, Westlight offers a beautiful view of New York City while you enjoy your food and drink. That being said, if you are only here for the view and nothing else, then this will meet your expectations. They definitely meet the standards of a rooftop bar in terms of magnificent views. But that's where it stops. We grabbed drinks at their Turf Club, and they were some of the worst drinks we've ever had. Not sure if was our specific bartender as we chose not to order another round after the dismal first round, but I would definitely not order any of their cocktails here again. Maybe stick to wine or beer. Service is extremely slow, and that's just walking up to a bar to order drinks. They also do an automatic gratuity here (I believe it was 20-22%) for making a drink at the bar, so when all was said and done, I paid over $50 for two poorly-made drinks. Disappointing. If you want to eat at their restaurant, definitely make reservations in advance. However, with our experience at their Turf Club, I don't know if I'd want to risk spending that much money for another poor performance. I will say we did not try the food, so maybe that would be better than their drinks. Overall, I would only come here again if I really wanted to see the view of NYC - the only reason I gave them a 3 star. Otherwise, I'd skip here and find a place that serves better, cheaper drinks. read more

Drinks - Plum perfect (4/5): sweeter more fruity side, tastes like juice -Thai tiki (3.5/5): relatively strong, with strong coconut flavor. Thai tea but super spiked -Lucuma Skywalker (5/5): my favorite!! Sooo refreshing, tasted exactly like a capirinha. not too strong at all -Mezcal julep (4/5): also on the more refreshing side, but did not like as much as lucuma skywalker. Can definitely taste the mezcal Food -Salmon tostada (4.5/5): really enjoyed this actually, just a bit hard and messier to eat. The salmon was very fresh though and I loved the addition of the trout roe -Eggplant dumplings (4/5): very tasty sauce and thin skin, but eggplant was surprisingly heavy. Flavors were great though, but wish it was pork or other type of meat -Crunchy summer salad (4.5/5): soooo refreshing and love how the avocado was coated in everything seasoning. Wish there was more pomelo though, it was hella skimped on -Salmon (2.5/5): honestly didn't love it. It was cooked well but the dashi was a bit sour and made the salmon taste a little off too. The food is very much an afterthought here. But i the views are immaculate. Some of the best views in Williamsburg. The establishment has a 360 view and plenty of outdoor deck. On warmer days they open the outside deck with a bar. I had the Spicy Empanadas- not really that spicy. Warm Artichoke Empanadas- was doing a little too much for me. Honey Chicken Entree - was an underwhelming portion for 38 dollars. The The Dry Aged Burger, fries and Spicy Tuna are definitely worth trying. I can't forget about the cocktails all of them are impressive and well thought. I would suggest going here solely for drinks. And make reservations especially in the warmer months! read more

An honestly abhorrent service experience at what could be a stunning spot to enjoy drinks. My friend and I ferried over to Brooklyn and stopped at this rooftop around 2 in the afternoon. The place was pretty much empty but the hostess didn't want to seat us because we didn't have a reservation. After asking really nice and explaining we just wanted a drink and a snack she reluctantly gave us a table with a decent view. My girlfriend had her chair next to me so she could enjoy the skyline and a server quickly came up and rudely said she needed to turn her chair back around. My friend asked if she could sit there until another table came knowing the space would be needed for servers once people sat down but as it was empty was hoping to enjoy the view in the meantime- she was still shut down. That server never came back to take our order, so we had to flag somebody down every time we needed something. When we were ready to check out we still had to flag two servers down before we finally got the bill and I still have extra pending charges on my card from this spot. When we left there was still over half the tables empty, so not sure what all the seating fuss was about. Drinks were good but the service was terrible, pay for overpriced cocktails with a view somewhere else, at least you may get served. read more

They were served in plastic glassware, which we were fond of. Not classy or cool but I get it. The one thing we found odd was the service. To which I replied yes, I am so sorry. I was doing my best to be friendly and not pushy. Then she told me the next hostess would help and she asked for the name on the reservation. This hostess then said, "you mean the reservation I literally just sat outside?" Yes. I am asking for an accommodation, because we are about to spend hundreds of dollars for service here. She told me they had no more room inside, even though literally 2 minutes prior she was somehow able to seat us inside. We also overheard some of the other wait staff being rude to some guests. I was excited to try to this place out, but we were simply met with overwhelming rudeness from the staff. Westlight is probably the best rooftop I have been to so far. It offers the most stunning views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan skylines, has a clean and spacious rooftop, and offers a variety of cocktails and drinks at a reasonable price. You can make a reservation to dine or you can go up to the Turf club where there is open seating and one main bar to grab drinks. There is also a lot of standing room, so you can bring a big group and still won't feel crammed. The wait to get to the top was only about 10 minutes, but I suggest you come one a weeknight or early on a weekend so you don't get stuck in any long lines. Service was standard but I will definitely come to dine here and enjoy the rest of the evening on the top floor. Enough talking, the pictures speak volumes here. 5/5 stars! read more

This place was a vibe. Inside we were seated at a small table and was still able to catch the views of the outside. There were birthday celebrations, intimate gatherings, girls night out, guys night out, couples on dates. A place you can visit regardless of the reason. The inside bar was crowded but everyone seemed super nice as we walked through to get to the terrace. We just had to take some photos on the outside terrace to capture the scenery. So glad we did too. The views are amazing! Luckily it wasn't that cold when we came so we were able to soak in some of the views before heading out. I've been meaning to write this review for a while. I haven't returned since my dinner on Nov 2rd, when I took my mother out for a special evening at a beautiful, elegant place with a great view. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. After being seated at our reserved table, the waiter introduced himself but ignored us for nearly 20 minutes while giving attention to other tables. He made eye contact a few times but chose to dismiss us, which was frustrating--especially since he, as a fellow Latino, made us feel like we didn't belong or couldn't afford to be there. When he finally returned, I had to speak English, as he refused to respond to me in Spanish. He then requested a card on file, which I know is standard protocol. I handed him my American Express, and his entire attitude shifted instantly. I wasn't even embarrassed of the place itself, but more so, embarrassed to have put my mother in such an uncomfortable situation. This used to be one of my top favorite spots, but the quality of service and staff has clearly declined. read more

They only come as two tacos, however (they used to come as three!). The carnitas really fall apart in your mouth from how juicy and tender they are! The dry aged beef burger is quite thick and juicy. The smoked cheddar adds a nice creaminess to the toasty bun and beef patty. It's delicious, but still rather ordinary. The drinks are good, but not very strong. What a bummer though it was a cloudy day so we didn't see a sunset, however, the skyline view was still very beautiful, and seeing the city switch from day to night was so lovely. The waiter we had was very accommodating and friendly, which made the experience even better, as it was the first time. The atmosphere is good, lots of seating, good music, and an amazing view. My wife and I went out to celebrate and each had one drink while enjoying some snacks. After finishing, we stepped outside to the outdoor area for about 5-7 minutes. When we returned, we were surprised to find that our table had been completely cleared, and a security guard was standing nearby. As we approached, he curtly said, "Please move," in a manner that made us feel as though we were being treated like panhadlers. We found our server and asked for the check, as we had no choice but to close out. Once again, the security guard rudely told us, "Please move away from the table, someone else is coming." I informed him that we had been sitting at that table, but he responded with, "I understand, but you need to move," which made little sense. Additionally, the restaurant states that each reservation has a 90-minute limit. Our reservation was at 6:30 PM, and we were essentially forced out by 7:05 PM--well before the allotted time. You know that friend that chooses the perfect location? I'm that friend. And, even better... I also have those friends. Was looking forward to dinner at Westlight with a guy friend I hadn't seen in some time. When he initially suggested Westlight, I was excited about the variety on the menu. I stay away from red meat, so a good seafood selection always piques my interest. I noticed the spicy tuna on crispy rice and tempura sea bass bao buns, which we inevitably ordered and were pretty good - both 7/10. The octopus and drinks also had me pretty intrigued. Although, the drinks here are touted as the star of the show (they were moderately good), the ambiance is definitely the star - and what will have you returning again and again. I'm not a Williamsburg gal, but this spot has me reconsidering where I'll spend my Friday hang time. The panoramic views were elite and the vibes felt so right for after work decompressing. I could see myself enjoying date night, drinks with a friend, a friend group outing and even a work outing here. Once you arrive in the dining area, you'll be tempted to stay and enjoy the vibes; but, the uber attentive servers (ours was Dina - friendly and gawgeous) will encourage you to take your fun up to the rooftop to take in the stunning panoramic views I mentioned. Note: they open at 4PM, which is the ideal reservation time. I'd suggest going to the rooftop around 4/4:30 before everyone gets there, if you'd like an unobstructed shot of the 360 view.
