If you're looking for a bar that you have to call in advance to confirm that they'll actually be open when they claim they are, then Westlight is the place for you. Perpetually closed for one private event after another, Westlight seems to have no real interest in the community in which it's just opened. Well, good luck with that, guys. If I'm looking to pay a premium for the privilege of looking at a distant skyline while I have a drink I'll stick with the Wythe Hotel. At least they'll be open when they say they are. read more

Disclaimer : I only visit on Sundays, late, or weekdays, no crowded weekends. I only go for drinks, one specific drink Bree make with rye, ginger, mint... I adore. So for this only, Westlight gets 5 stars. Oh! And the obvious amazing view. read more

Westlight is beautiful but pricy but I mean what can you expect from a five star hotel. Staff was attentive even though it was a busy Sunday. The view is phenomenal here! My boyfriend and I arrived around 6pm on a Saturday and waited about 20 minutes to go up the elevator. First thing we did was get a good look of the Manhattan skyline, and it was beautiful even with the partly cloudy weather. The drinks here are crazy expensive, so we just decided to get the $7 pilsner before going to the Brooklyn Brewery next door. I would 100% recommend coming here for the view alone. read more

One word: Views. The views at this bar are absolutely incredible. Overall the ambiance cannot be beat. The blue velvet chairs, giant dimmed lighting and good but quiet music. We had a Friday night reservation for some drinks and we were able to skip the huge line and immediately be seated! They gave us a great table in the corner overlooking the breathtaking views. My girlfriend and I both got wine so I don't have anything to say regarding cocktails but the staff was attentive and great and the vibes were even better. It was one girls birthday and they brought out a sparkler thing that was cute! Highly recommend! It's also super romantic FYI! Can't wait for cooler weather so that the outside opens up. read more

Solid upscale top of the hotel roof bar in Williamsburg. Don't expect to find too many locals here; this place was full of tourists and out of town ers but everyone here looked good and wanted to be seen. Drinks pricey, $22 for a Macallan 12 neat , but the view is too notch. Pre game, show up with a date grab a drink before he crowd and move on. read more

Westlight is definitely pricey, but it's hard to beat the amazing views. We got there early on a summer evening, so there was no wait. We enjoyed the herb fries, carrot hummus with pumpernickel bread, and a few other items. It was a great idea place to relax. read more

I went to this rooftop bar last night for a friends birthday- went to the bar and ordered a beer ($9) - which the bartender poured for me out of an already opened can that was just sitting on the bar. Weird I thought, but okay, maybe that's how they do it here. I then ordered a club soda ($8)- and that price shocked me, to which the bartender responded "rooftop bar I don't make the rules" and "sorry don't know what to tell you." I paid, and then tasted the beer, which was WARM AND FLAT. I would've asked him for a new one but didn't exactly feel like talking to him again after his response to my shock at the price of the club soda. I would've appreciated a heads up about an $8 CLUB SODA. A TINY CLUB SODA FROM A CAN. I've been living in NYC for 17 years and have bartended at very nice hotel rooftop bars myself. I understand the high prices. But the lack of hospitality and awareness (who serves warm open beer??) was really annoying. read more

The views and atmosphere are superb. I can't say enough about how fantastic they really are. The food and drinks were good. I'd say the only thing the place was lacking is in service. The staff is extremely friendly but they are a bit slow. I'm sure this is partially because they are new but this is still something they should work on. The night started off on a positive note. The views are breathtaking. The space itself is amazing, and I don't think anyone with a phone can resist taking photos once you're there. The hostess was welcoming and let us choose our table after scouting the place. I was there with my boyfriend, and after ordering cocktails we decided we'd each choose two appetizers to share. We both agreed how great the space was and contemplated bringing friends that were visiting the following week. Everything sort of went downhill from there. We waited a good 15 mins for our drinks, which were good, but come on. It was a Wednesday night and they weren't that busy. We didn't say anything about the wait, placed our food order, joked around with the waiter, and ordered another round of drinks. I noticed that the table next to us placed their food order about 5 minutes after us. After 30 minutes of waiting for our food, our second round of drinks non-existent, no check-in from our waiter, and the table next to us happily eating, we asked what was going on with our order(s). The waiter didn't have a valid reason. Just that "things are crazy". We told him we were really hungry and disappointed, and that he should just cancel the order and we'd just get a slice of pizza somewhere. We expected him to apologise and try to make things right, but instead he just brought us our check, said "hey I'm really sorry about your order" and let us go. Needless to say, we'll never go back. We did end up going to Leuca, which was excellent. read more

The hostess sat us down and said "just to let you know we expect you to finish in one hour because we do have a long waitlist tonight" I was dumbfounded. Is this a new thing restaurants do that I'm not aware of? After finishing our food and drink and paying. One of the servers waited maybe 5 minutes then told us that the people for our table are here and waiting. This place charges $18 for a cocktail and have the nerve to kick dining guests out in ONE hour. read more

As soon as I learned that the rooftop bar on top of the William Vale had opened I went there the first weekend that I could... twice. The first time I went around 9pm with a friend. It was a perfectly brisk early fall evening so I found it a perfect time to be outside. We went up without a reservation but put our names down and after 30 mins were able to grab a table for two. While we waited we ordered two Billy V's, which turned out to be extremely disappointing. There was no consistency to the drink and it was very watery, nowhere near the $15 we paid. After we sat down, we admired the view for a while, it is a truly stunning sight which everyone should at least see once. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a couple next to us making out hard-core and actually ignoring the poor third-wheel at the table. Very weird but might speak to the type of wealthy clientele who will be populating the William Vale and its bar. We decided to order another drink so I chose the Crusher 2.0. This drink took a loooong time to appear, maybe 30 minutes and the worst part was that our waiter passed by our table 2 or 3 times expecting our order to have arrived but quickly realized each time that he had to inquire about the order's status. The place just opened up so it is understandable but come on, this is basic stuff. The next day I happened to have friends from SF visiting and what better place to show off the NY skyline than Westlight. When I got off the elevator on the 22nd floor a crowd had built up and they were not letting people in for the moment. After a while people got restless and a bold woman opened up the gate and forced her way in, and everyone followed her. Some order was restored but it was clear that the staff were overwhelmed. Luckily I had made a reservation (except the hostess almost missed my name and said it wasn't on the list but then looked again to find it) and my friends arrived in a couple minutes and we were all seated in the impressive interior in comfortable furniture. From then on, the inexperience of the staff began to show, the first server bringing our water was clearly very uncomfortable and took forever to put our glasses down and not without spilling water on my menu. There was some confusion about who our waiter was. In general it was quite an amateurish display. We stuck around for only a drink but most importantly my friends got a kick out of the wonderful view and we moved on to a bar which had its shit together. read more

We got seated at the wrong table from our initial request and then once seated things didn't get better. The place is overpriced as expected and normal but I was expecting more quality for this price. We wanted to express our grievances about the service but a manager was not be found for over 30mins. As many have said the views are spectacular, but the service is terrible. We had reservations for a 25th Anniversary Dinner, we arrive and were seated as soon as we were seated the rude waiter said you have 90 Minutes, so one of my guests laughed and said what did he say, so I said don't worry he said 90 Minutes but I am sure they are not going to kick us out if we are not done, I was wrong, we still had some of our entrees left a glass of wine each and the waiter said ok your time is up, I looked at him like your kidding right, I said we are not done yet, he proceeded to say your time is up and if you have a problem take it up with Management. We were so stunned that we left and finished our night at Rooftop Reds where we were treated amazing. Our Bill was not cheap and even if it were Restaurants are suffering to treat customers that way is Mind blowing we were CONSUMING we were not Lingering, and to feel you go out to have a great time and you have to rush and swallow your food and guzzle your drinks in a hurry and spend $400-$500 in 90 Minutes and be treated i think for me and for many is not worth it. There are a Million other Restaurants around that are well worth we visiting and spending our money at, but definitely not WESTLIGHT again.. read more

Came here on Tuesday, October 1st at 10:45 PM. Amazing view, great environment and decor. However as soon as I walked to the bar, the bartenders said last call when I was told and online it says that bar closes at 12AM. First thing I asked the bartender of he had any Pilsner. He said no he only had IPA's on tap. Then I asked if he had any other types of beer, besides of giving me a look with a certain attitude, he told me IPAs only. Got the beer no problem, then my friend joined me at the bar and asked what kind if beer and the bartender once again said IPA. My friend as someone that works in the industry asked what IPA, and the bartender with a very bad attitude like he was doing us a favor said the only one we have, like we are supposed to know that as costumers. After the fact another bartender realized the matter and responded that the IPA was from a brewing in Greenport. His negative attitude ruined the experience, what a shame for such an amazing venue. read more

5 STARS!!! The best views of Manhattan, hands down. Found towering over Williamsburg stands this very Miami inspired looking bar; chic, posh and the atmosphere is exactly that. The drinks are wonderful and the food is Phenomenal. Food is meant to be shared as they are considered bar bites-- people who come here complain that the food is not good or not enough because they think it's a restaurant, well it's not. It's a Bar that serves food. Good options are the specials that you have to ask the server for and the staples that include the Eggplant Dumplings, the Tuna Puffs and the best burger in NYC! But let's get real, the real reason to visit is the view! Unobstructed views, people!!! Make a reservation and stay a while otherwise you are waiting in line for god knows how long! Westlight speaks for itself from an experiential standpoint. From the whole entrance sequence to the views and food, the space itself is exceptional. However, what has ruined my visits to Westlight on every occasion I have been is the service. The servers are brusque, inattentive, and clueless. Last night while there, when asked for direction with white wine the waitress responded with "if you think of a traditional white wine, go with this one." That was it. Instead of sending over the som and admitting she didn't know anything about the wine menu (not everyone does which is fine). We then had our finished food plates on our table for 15 minutes. And when leaving after the check I went to take a picture of the wine we drank and realized that she hadn't poured us our entire bottle of a nice bottle of wine. She also shooed us away when she was cleaning the finished table next to us when we wanted to order more food instead of saying "I will be with you in just a minute". I have been to westlight to eat on 4 different occasions and I always immediately am reminded with an underwhelming repeat service performance. read more

A friend and I came from out of town and we not only loved the atmosphere and the great food and drink but we really wanted to compliment the staff! From the hostess, Sabrina, greeting us with a smile and making us immediately feel welcome to our bartender being very friendly and quick to make drinks and our waitress, Ella, was absolutely wonderful in making us feel relaxed, welcome, and appreciated. Terrible service. 1 hour wait outside with no information about the estimated 2 hour wait inside for a table. Could not stand outside to look at the view without security immediately telling you that you cannot stand outside. Rude, arrogant and entitled staff... ps you just work there. Amazing views (obviously) however that comes with a lotttt of people getting photos and often standing right in front of your table / views. Brooklyn sellout. Came here Wednesday evening with a girlfriend around 7. There were people but a lot of empty tables. Definitely wasn't slammed and also didn't seem understaffed. Readily agreed when she suggested this place, as it seemed online to be a trendy cool place with excellent views. The hostess was friendly and accommodating, but that's where the good service ended. Our cocktail waitress was pleasant, but the lags between our orders was appalling. We ordered three appetizers. After being there for over an hour, I asked for the check- and to cancel the tuna tartare puffs. They never came/ but they didn't forget, they just didn't come yet! The empanadas way before we even received our cocktail and rose. They tasted decent, but nothing to write home about. Then along cake the hummus. That was delicious, but the extra pita we requested also didn't materialize. Like I stated previously, it never seemed like an honest mistake- the stuff just never came. With no reassurance about its potential arrival either. The prices were standard New York, but a bit overpriced considering the service. We spent $65 + on two drinks and two apps. There wasn't even an apology. Also to note / the chairs and banquettes were all pretty work and filthy looking. Not as posh as they try to come off. The view I'll concede is spectacular. I guess Brooklyn has now become a tourist trap just like the rest of the city, given the amount of selfie takers and notable out of Towners.
