I never dealt with the company per se, but after an experience with a difficult customer at my electronics repair shop here in LaSalle, a customer who just happened to be wearing a company-themed black jacket, I thought I'd weigh in. He's an Indo-Pakistani guy in his late 20s to early 30s who goes by the name Jass and he wanted his 50" LG LED Smart TV fixed, but after being so wishy washy about it I made him pay a $50.00 deposit up front (with a handwritten receipt) before I had my technician work on it. He insists the TV was bought brand new (probably true) and that nobody worked on it before (definitely not true), but when I asked him he replies "Why would I lie about that?" After a couple weeks (I told him ordering the parts would take a while) he was got impatient about the repair so he told me to forget about it and that he wanted his money back but I told him the deposit is nonrefundable. I just saw him today and he told me he wants his TV back (not a problem as soon as my techie drops it off from his workshop) and his $60.00 deposit back (I told him it was nonrefundable and that it was $50.00, he paid me a $50.00 bill from the ATM but he says he paid me with three $20.00 bills (not true) and that it's written on the receipt (also not true). So he doctored the receipt to try to scam me out of an extra $10.00? "Why would I lie (about that)?" he says. I swear when I give him his TV back if he makes any trouble about the deposit I'm calling the police, but it just goes to show you the crooks and con artists that work for this company (from what I've read here he's definitely not the only one), which explain why stuff ends up missing (he and his buddies steal it and his boss covers for him) or broken (careless idiots who just want to make a quick buck). Were else do they cut corners? Do they fumigate their trucks after each move and use proper pest control in their warehouses like all professional movers are supposed to or not? Glad I read these reviews, because even if a few people report positive experiences (and aren't paid shills), the negatives far outweigh the positives here. Just my two cents. read more

My partner's employer hired Westmount Moving to handle our transatlantic move. They were quick to respond to our initial request for a quote; however, when it came time to book a date for the actual move, they were uncommunicative. The person is charge of scheduling did not return my partner's Friday phone call the following morning, as he said he would, nor did he answer his cell phone throughout Saturday. Admittedly, it was a weekend, but he was well aware that we needed to move ASAP, and he should have been professional enough to reply the following day as promised. He did not return my partner's phone call until Tuesday. By that time, their schedule was already booked up and they were not able to accommodate our first-choice date. As a result, they came and took our things two days before our flight, and we spent two nights in an empty apartment. In contrast to the manager's poor and unprofessional communication, the team who came to do the actual moving was ace. They were fast, friendly and total pros. We were very impressed. In summary - recommended with hesitation. You cannot count on them for a quick reply, but the moving team is efficient. Hopefully our stuff will arrive in good shape. ETA: In addition to shipping all of our stuff by boat, they were also sending one box express, via air, for more urgent items. They came to box and move our items on 28/5/2010. We were supposed to receive the express box one or two weeks afterwards. Instead, we received it yesterday, 23/6/2010. Apparently there was a misunderstanding involving paperwork and to be fair to Westmount Moving, it's entirely possible that the fault lies with my partner's employer. At any rate, I'm glad that we took our truly essential items with us on the plane over. Supposedly the rest of our stuff has arrived in port and I hope it's all in good condition. Horrible moving experience. Avoid this moving company. I had the worst moving experience ever. I am a highly professional manager in high tech industry and was very unlucky to have chosen this company. Customer service was awful. They lost some of my boxes and originally blamed it on me because the driver forced me to quickly sign the paper work at destination that I have received all items. Then I was lucky that another customer called them saying they have a box not belonging to them!!! Their labelling is absolutely flawed. There were lots of items with no labels and they claim the labels have gone off during the move! This is almost impossible if you see how strong the adhesives are. This way, they leave some room for themselves to say "the missing item must belong to one of the unlabelled items!" in case an item is missing. Interesting enough, there were more delivered items than the ones listed in paper work which shows they didn't put some labels on some items at all. They also surprised me by increasing the fare by about 20% a few days after move and without my consent at time of loading. Their onsite estimate did not show details. Their trick is that they come in your house and give you an estimate without giving you details of items and intentionally underestimate the weight and so a cheaper price. This way they can win the business because everyone shops around for best price. Then later, they come back and accuse the customer for adding items and so increased weight and price! This is very shameful. There are plenty of better options. Check reviews before signing contract. Avoid Westmount moving company. read more

My wife's employer relocated us from Montreal to Toronto and used Westmount Moving for the move. We have moved several times in our lives and have used other small and large companies. Of all our movers Westmount Moving has been by far the worst ever experience. DO NOT use this terrible, inconsiderate, unprofessional company for moving your precious personal belongings. Please heed my advice!!! Simon arrived at our origin to load all of our stuff. Him and his crew of 4 were rude from the onset. They did not put down any protective floor covering and as a result scratched and scuffed our wood floors and wood stairs. We had 2 plasma TVs for which Westmount Moving charged us $125 surcharge per TV to protect yet all they did was wrap the 42" in a chair cover with tape and the 58" in a furniture cover with tape. When we asked Simon whether they were going to be protected because we were charged for it he just told us it would be done in the truck. He didn't put our mattresses and box springs in plastic covers that we paid for. Once again when asked about it he said it would be done in the truck. They couldn't get our stainless steel french door Samsung fridge out the front door and all that needed to be done was to remove the handle bars but instead Simon removed only one of the french doors. How does removing only one french door but not the other help? Mind boggling. End result: damaged fridge door. They tossed around our most expensive appliance: a $4000 Electrolux slide in induction range. 4 days later we were already in Toronto at our new home waiting for our stuff and got a call from Jocelyn that they were available to unload our stuff in the evening. They arrived around 530pm and were only 2 people. These guys were much nicer, and we insisted they put down floor covering which they did but did not have enough. We had to supplement their coverings with our own rolls of brown paper which we purchased from Home Depot for $60. It was raining heavily so a lot of us helped these guys place the stuff inside the right places within the house as they unloaded them from the truck. As our stuff came out of the truck this experience only got worse. We started getting a sinking feeling of despair as we saw so many of our personal belongings, appliances, and children's things coming out of the truck all damaged. Our slide in induction range bottom legs were bent and broken and frame caved in; it's currently resting on pieces of plywood in our new kitchen. Water had leaked into the truck and as a result there were several damaged boxes. The mattresses and box springs were not covered at all and are filthy and will have to be thrown out. The two plasma TVs that we were charged $250 for extra protection were never additionally protected in the truck as Simon had promised and our winter tires were leaning on the larger 58" TV. Exercise bike seat torn. Dining table chipped. Fridge french door spring broken because one door was unnecessarily removed. Missing a box. Missing kids' stroller. Missing garden hoses and tools. Toolbox scratched. Dining table chair damaged. Son's desk dirty and damaged. And the list goes on... Jocelyn and Jean Michel were very apologetic and admitted that our stuff was poorly loaded and poorly protected in the truck. They said they'd never seen so much damage to personal belongings before. They called Simon and we spoke to him. He feigned innocence and claimed that he had protected everything to their usual standards. When we listed to him all that was damaged his response was sarcastic and insensitive. We have never dealt with such an unprofessional and low quality moving company before. We are now waiting to see how all of this is going to be handled by the Westmount Moving head office... read more

I have arranged a move from Canada to the US through this company. As of this writing, I am still waiting for my entire household items, almost FOUR WEEKS after my moving day. In fact, I was just told today that my shipment is still in Canada, making me wonder what they were doing all the time. When I first contacted them for a quote, they were polite and courteous. The moving crew also came on time on the moving day, and did great job. However, my shipment has since been sitting still in their warehouse and they never give me any update until they broke their promised delivery date. While keeping my stuff in their warehouse, they sent me a delayed shipment compensation form through email via a third party. There are a few things worth commenting. First, instead of working on our shipment, they think it is cheaper to compensate us for the delay. Since we are a family of four with two little kids (one of them is a little baby), we are literally living in hell in the last few weeks, which I certainly would not exchange for any monetary compensation. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, they ask for receipts for anything claimed on the delay compensation form. The receipts also have to be DIRECTLY related to the delay of the shipment. In other words, we have to PROVE to them that the delay caused problem for us, even though they are perfectly aware that we lived without our household items for almost a month. In summary, this company is totally incompetent of what they are doing, and cares more about their profits than anything else. I already regretted using them and can only hope that my stuff would come soon, while there is still no promised delivery date yet. read more

The initial response was nice. The rep came home to give estimate and followed up emails back and forth with me for about four month before we finally fixed a loading day. I thought I found a good company, BUT read on. On loading day (Saturday), driver told us the stuff will be unloaded on Monday and we have to pay the full estimate amount (instead of actual amount which obviously is less) before unload. The reason was that the back office is not open on weekends so he won't be able to process paperwork for actual amount. We got upset and the sale rep was unreachable. Finally we found out the V.P.'s phone number from the initial sales package and got this sorted out, but there was hours' long discussion. The moving team seemed to be nice until we found out the followings after we signed off the unloading sheet: 1) Cash of USD1700 was STOLEN from a handbag we placed in a close closet. 2) Screws were missing for the baby crib they uninstalled (they did not reassemble the crib before leaving stating that it is not their responsibility). 3) Screws were missing in a queen bed they disassembled and reassembled. We did not know the situation until the bed collapsed next night. My elderly mom almost got hurt. 4) A huge multi-functional ladder is loss. Until now I cannot imagine how such a big ladder could disappear from the so-call "locked" moving truck. This was what happened to me. They appeared reliable until we signed off and started to sort out the mass. It was an international move, so now we are in a different country and hard to recourse anything. BTW, the insurance we purchased upfront covered the last three items above, but declined the cash theft claim despite police report. Westmount Moving International: With over thirty years of moving experience we have completed nine international moves during the last three decades, including to and from Europe, South America, The United States and Canada. No other experience can be compared to the lack of professionalism and ethics demonstrated by Westmount Moving International in Montreal. The experience has left us so distraught we feel compelled to write this review to advise anyone who is seeking to employ a moving company, whether for a domestic or international move, to avoid this company at all costs. I would particularly warn foreign Consulates and Embassy's to avoid transacting with this firm. I would highlight the following sequence of events to substantiate the above: 1.) The company arrived over an hour late. 2.) The movers immediately took an aggressive stance upon arrival declaring that they would have to complete the move in a few hours to avoid a parking ticket on the street. Any professional moving company would have reserved a parking space for the duration of the move as is customary in Montreal. 3.) The aggression continued with the movers refusing to pack several items. When asked about why these items were being excluded, the movers became so rude and aggressive it was necessary to call their supervisor. 4.) The supervisor was reluctant to take any action and did not at any moment offer an apology. Westmount Moving International made it clear that it tolerates this type of behavior from its employees and expects clients to do the same. 5.) Packaging materials were inappropriate for a transatlantic move. Items were placed directly in cardboard boxes without plastic or bubble-wrap, leaving objects directly exposed to humidity, unavoidable in international shipping by sea. 6.) The move did not include any furniture, only clothes and personal items. However, the staff was inexperienced and unfamiliar with elementary packing techniques, having to ask us for help disassembling simple household items. 7.) The total number of items was incorrectly numbered, with the company's total tally of items being substantially lower than what we observed was loaded into the truck. 8.) The firm agreed the items would be counted again in our presence at the time of the transfer to the final container. However, when we arrived the container was already sealed. We are in the process of fighting to have our belongings returned to us, which the company is refusing to do unless an incremental payment is made to the firm beyond what was initially agreed. read more

I had the unfortunate luck of the draw to have a blizzard on my moving day. Stressed beyond belief, the Westmount Moving team I had was amazing, polite, courteous and professional. In the several moves I have been part of, or had the experience to hear about from other companies, this one was beyond belief a positive experience and worth every penny. The only glitch in my move, was the salesman who booked the move neglected to inform the moving team I had a tv. In the end, it worked out because their care in doing an amazing job showed when everything came into my house as it should. Westmount Moving is a shambles. We agreed in writing that they would arrive at 8am to move my 87 year-old mother, as they only had the elevator from 8am - 12.00 noon. They called the day before to say they would arrive at 9.30am seemingly unaware that 8am had already been agreed. Later in the day they called back to say that I may see a story on CTV News about Westmount Moving, but not to worry they would arrive at 8am. When I asked about the story, they said they weren't at liberty to say. The next day, they didn't arrive on time and called a half hour later to say they would be 1.5 hours late as they had to get a truck, unload it and then find a crew. When I called the office to get an explanation about what was happening, I was bounced around between the receptionist and voice mail. The manager, who I could hear in the background, refused to get on the call and take any responsibility. It's hardly the experience you want when you are about to entrust your furniture and possessions to someone. The is the worst customer service experience in a long time. Disorganised, mismanaged and incompetent. All this from a group that spends oodles of money advertising on the radio what a great moving company they are. It's the triumph of marketing over actual service. Avoid them and hire someone else. read more

Westmount Moving managed to damage the only large piece of furniture I had to move. They wore jackets which said "professional movers" but didn't really get the feeling they were a specialized bunch. Guys off the street which had a hard time moving themselves nevermind the furniture. To top it off, they are more expensive than the others and charge a fuel surcharge even though they only had 5 minutes of driving between my old & new place... I don't recommend Westmount Moving to anyone. read more

Our move with Westmount Moving from Montreal was a nightmare from start to finish. The truck showed up 90 minutes late and a few of the drivers smelled of beer (at 9:30 a.m.) and they acted like they were out for a day of fun at the amusement park! None of them seemed to be in a hurry moving one box at a time. The move ended up going 3 hours overtime because of this plus they charged 3 times the quote !! Also added some "charges" without any consultation. Could not get an explanation about the mystery charges or the overtime. I paid everything and will get my refund in small claims court. The experience from a quick and efficient quoting process, through setting the moving date, packing and moving my mother-in-law into her new home was a very positive one. We were thrilled to see that the team was professional, friendly and good humoured during every step of the move. Moving can be stressful on anyone, in our case my mother-in-law, now widowed, was moving from a home she had shared with her husband for over 20 years. The Westmount Moving team's professionalism and good humour certainly helped her through this emotional process. Care was taken to protect belongings as well as the flooring and walls during the move. They carefully placed treasured items and reassembled furniture pieces with efficiency. We had heard that Westmount Moving had set high standards for their employees performance, it was a pleasure to see the quality of work exceeded our expectations. So the first half went well enough. Sales process seemed nice and professional, packers were friendly and professional, and pick up went alright. My first hint that I was going to hit problems was probably when I could't get my sales rep to be responsive when I was trying to sign the contract. If that's THE MOST important thing any sales rep cares about and can't manage to get back to you, you know it's gonna be an uphill battle from there, right. Anyway, the troubles begin a few days later. The rep promised a range of delivery of 5 to 15 days, but of course assured me he was sure it'd be more on the 5 days side. So I planned my entire move based on this. As the days went on, I had to harass the rep multiple times to get any sort of update. Where is my stuff? When will I gte it? I'd get dripped fed new dates. "Just a few days". "oop, no, few more days". Long story short, after 15 days of complete uncertainty, on the 15th day, the very last day of the contractual range, we get a call from dispatch (NOT our sales rep) telling us the truck will be here between 1 and 4 pm. At 4:30pm I get a call from Westmount saying they need to charge my card for the 6500$ needed. I say "you're not charging my card till I know where this truck here", to which I'm told, slightly paraphrasing, "if you don't pay, you'll never see your stuff again". So they are quite clearly holding my stuff hostage. With 0 faith left in them, I now need to trust them with that money and trust a truck will appear, based on nothing but their word, which is obviously meaningless to me at this point. But, no choice, so I pay. At 9:30pm (remember, truck was supposed to be here between 1 and 4, so you plan your day based on that) the truck arrives. It's 2 guys and a ball pen. NO moving gear of any sort. Not even a box cutter. My wife and I are forced to serve as supplementaty moving crew, because we need this done before next century. By 2am we're done. The two guys with a ballpen head off to another move 3 states over (they don't get to sleep). That's the story. Maybe you find this acceptable, maybe you don't, but that's what happened. Never EVER use this moving company! If I could give negative stars, I would. They earned this negative review by being thoroughly horrible at their jobs at virtually every level. Where to start? They changed the date of my move at the last minute (night before the move) causing me to lose a day of pay. They failed to put large items on my manifest (e.g., bed and box springs). They damaged MANY items (slash through the back of an armchair, broken lamp, broken storage container, relatively new mattress now has dirt all over it and a hole with stuffing coming out, huge dent in a solid wood coffee table, etc). My belongings were damaged in the first part of the move (before they went into their storage facility). The movers who took care of the second part of the move (from storage facility to new home) documented the damage in the warehouse (they shared the pictures with me). These guys later got in trouble for having documented this: the manager said, "we document damage at the warehouse, they shouldn't have done that and shared it with you. I'll be dealing with them". The movers for the second part of the move had me waive my insurance saying they wouldn't break anything (these were the guys who knew that MANY things were already damaged). The company then claimed I had no right to seek damages since I had waived the insurance - um... sounds like fraud or folks who aren't able to advise me on what to sign/not sign if they themselves have no idea what it means. ...Since you KNEW you had already damaged my property how could you encourage me to waive coverage? Plus the damage was already done before I waived coverage. Yes, all of this already makes for a really horrible experience. It gets worse! They have been horribly non-responsive. It is 2.5 months since my move and I have not received a penny from them. Many conversations with receptionists (who agree that the manager is likely screening my calls and recommends that I block my number before calling). Wow - just wow. Many attempts to get this resolved. Told multiple times they will have an answer for me only to hear nothing for a week at a time. You have been warned. NEVER use this company. I'd used them years ago, before new owners, and they were very professional. This time they were in a hurry, cut corners and poor communicators. They lost the legs on my bed and just said, "they're in a box somewhere...". Well they are NOT! The General manager never says, "sorry" and makes it seem like I am the unreasonable one. Their website shows off a man named Alain, the head of "Quality"...well I emailed him and 5 days later, he hasn't bothered to even respond, let alone address my QUALITY issues. Their employees were well trained in the use of invisible tape to disguise some of the damage (yes, that means that they were keeping it on them) and they engaged in an elaborate ploy to deny their accountability. read more

I hired Westmount Movers when we bought a big house in Trois Rivieres and had to move out of an apartment in Montreal. I had contacted a lot of companies,but in the end I went with Westmount Movers because of all the agents, the one from the Westmount Movers was the best. We were able to settle on a date for the move easily and the agent was very helpful every time I had questions. The move was a lot less stressful than what I was used to before. On the day of the move the crew showed up on time,enthusiastic and extremely fast since we were renting an apartment on 9th floor and we were at the end of a very long corridor! Upon arriving at the destination,the crew unloaded and placed everything in our house exactly where I wanted. At the end of the day we were tired but very happy! I will definitely recommend the company to everyone I know that plans on moving. Keep up the good work! read more

I heard about Westmount Moving through friends who did nothing but rave about them. From the moment that I called them, I felt confidant that my move would go smoothly. My move took 12 hours, which makes for an extremely long day. However, the reason for the 12 hours is that because every single thing was blanket wrapped. This resulted in no claims... Yea! From the moment the guys arrived, they worked hard. They were very courteous and friendly. I would highly recommend this company to assist in your move. read more
