I can't say I fully understand the mediocre reviews. I've been pleased with the fresh produce, the deli items, and the large selection of locally-grown items, including honeys, oils, vinegars, and more. I'm not sure that we've gotten a single item we haven't been pleased with! Lines move quickly and service is attentive but not intrusive. The shop is clean and well organized. When I come up to visit my family in Ojai, I enjoy shopping at Westridge markets. They have incredible specials and today they had a Tuesday morning special of a coffee any size and a breakfast sandwich for five dollars! Since I was taking my grandson for a walk this morning, we headed for the store and arrived at 9:45 and they have been selling out all day so they made me a fresh one in 10 minutes and we sat outside and enjoyed our picnic breakfast. Always check their flyer that has their incredible deals each month, including their Tuesday and Thursday special deals. They have great coffee every day. An incredible deli with all kinds of pastries made fresh and then their hot deli, including Fresh made sushi. Don't forget to check out Westridge market when you're in Ojai. Stopped by the market on our way to park. I wanted to pick up bread and snacks to take with us. Lovely variety of goods. Got a delicious sourdough loaf for $11, which was perfect for the park eats. This is my first time coming here and before I was really confused by the mixed reviews, but my experience was a five star 100% the place is beautiful with a fantastic choice of prepared foods, bakery goods, fresh fruit, vegetables meats, and the staff was all so friendly and helpful so my opinion, is whoever is writing negative reviews about this place is not worthy of consideration. That said, we came in early in the morning and went to the breakfast bar first. The eggs, sausages, and various other choices were fresh, well-prepared, and very tasty. This is not a Vons market, and, as mentioned in other reviews, it's more of a blend of Whole Foods and a bit of Trader Joe's. I really appreciate that this is a family-owned establishment, and I don't mind paying a little more to support these businesses. It's becoming tiresome to see corporations and private equity firms taking over family businesses and jobs. read more

I go here 5 days a week and love the place! while I shop occasionally, I always have the fresh made food at the deli counter- brisket, ribs sandwiches, slaw, smoothies etc. Today I ordered the Brisket sandwiches loaded with peppers, onions and pickles on toasted sour dough w lettuce and tomatoes and WOW! The customer service at the deli counter is HORRIBLE- save the sushi people because they are pretty awesome. The rest just sucks and bad. Be prepared to wait for service even if you're the only person at the counter. Basically you're ignored so speak up or you'll never get noticed. Calling in your order? It won't be ready when you get there and it comes with zero apologies. Last night I ordered 2 large pizzas. Called in the order. The pizza man was on his break right before the dinner hour. Seems like an ill planned break. Anyway and as usual and to be expected, my order wasn't near ready. Fortunately, there was a tequila tasting in the store to keep me occupied. When I got my 2 large pizzas to the party late, they were far from large. Other ones I've had from Westridge in the past were much bigger and I'm not sure how they managed it, but the pizza was cold. There was less than 5 minutes between me picking up the long awaited pies and getting them to their destination. Advice to self and anyone else reading this, call beforehand to see if the order is ready. Btw, they don't take payment over the phone. They have a head start as this country continues to move in reverse. In that respect, kudos to them. read more

I'm not one to Yelp often, but sometimes, you just have to leave a review. I called in an order for a simple BLT. When I arrived, they assured me that they did not receive my order and that I must've called the other location. I pulled up the phone number to confirm, and it was, in fact, the correct location. They apologized and put my order in. Upon my return to my desk, I excitedly opened my sandwich, only to be greeted by the sight of the top piece of bread literally falling apart. There were four slices through the top piece of bread, and the crust had broken off in multiple places. Whatever, it's fine, not pretty. But after further inspection, there wasn't a single tomato on this sandwich! Just lettuce and bacon. A BLT without the "T" is just sad, right? As if that wasn't enough, the three other interactions I had with employees in the store were equally depressing. None of them were friendly or warm at all. I'll never order from that deli again. Go to MJ's instead, where sandwiches have tomatoes and smiles and pickles are free. read more

Westridge, midtown truly is the best market in these parts. The prices can be a little bit high compared to other markets like Vons, but often without question it's because of the higher quality brands and suppliers, but I also appreciate (and I am willing to pay a small premium for), the attention to detail that each of the grocers pays to their departments. Specifically i want to shout out to the the meat department, the dairy and cheese and alternative dairy department, beer department, and of course, the produce team is awesome. The cashiers are friendly, the folks stocking the shelves always help you find things, and I can't go to Westridge without stopping off at the sushi department, the deli, and the hot case. Whenever I wanted to get something in that they didn't have, they are almost always able to order it and they even call me when it's in. Big fan. read more

Excellent market in downtown Ojai. It was like a cross of Traders Joe with Whole Foods, so plethora of fresh and baked goodies plus prepared food. I went there in need of my very own birthday (mini) cake and the seller went above and beyond to help me. We got also a bunch of different snacks for the trip back to San Jose. I like the Westridge market on the other end of town so I was happy to see Westridge in this location too (though sad to see Star Market go). They've taken out the carpeted floors here, and are remodeling a lot of the store. The produce section is really attractive now and I'm excited to see the bakery and deli/meat section as it's being installed and updated. I love that I can get my favorite commercially made cake here - the "Big Chocolate Cake" made by Sweet Street in Pennsylvania. They also carry their Red Velvet cake in addition to the bakery items that Westridge bakes themselves. Last weekend my in-laws were in town and we tried several of their bakery items including their bread pudding and lemon chiffon cake. I haven't had anything disappointing here yet! I love their lemon bars and want to try their blueberry cobbler bars next. Besides food, this store carries a small selection of household items like cleaning products and small automotive or fix it things. They also have some camping supplies, but mostly I'd just come here for their food. read more

Deli has the right ingredients but lack the final touch. Boars head meat is a winner, plenty of bread options and quality veggies usual makes a solid outcome but it's hit or miss at this deli. I've experienced plenty of sandwiches that we're not made correctly (cold vs hot, missing core items), found multiple pepperoncinis stems or bread that were too wide for the sandwich (see picture). Work on these said details and that could make this the good to sandwich stop in the valley. read more

For a small town family owned market there is absolutely no friendliness by the employees and no customer service culture. I went earlier today to buy some sushi and cod fish (on sale) - I saw a lot of new faces and not one of them was smiling. The couple that used to be making the sushi were not there. Instead there was a young woman who was not friendly at all. There was a young man stocking the shelves directly in the way of something I was going to purchase. When I politely asked him to allow me access he looked at me as if I was threatening to kill him. I saw one familiar face behind the butcher counter and he didn't seem happy at all - in the past I've had a good relationship with him. The other person behind the butcher counter was new, was helping another customer and he apparently woke up on the wrong side of the bed and was totally unfriendly. The nice elderly lady who used to do the bagging was nowhere to be found. The young lady who checked my purchases was new and seemed like she was there only because she needed a job and a paycheck. Has there been a change of ownership or management?? Just awful culture, awful customer service- what in the heck is going on?? Complete opposite of Trader Joe's. read more

The larger location is better than the smaller, east side one. I've had to return deli food that went bad, literally within 20 minutes with a receipt. A middle-aged redhead manager, Teresa, was rude about it. Every time I have encountered her she is pointedly rude, to the point, I've stopped shopping a both locations unless necessary. You're better off just contacting the Dept of Health rather than trying to work with the store if she is representative of how they manage things. read more
