Gone are the days of an old school flea market...... Stopped…read moreby over the weekend with high hopes of being a regular go to, I love junk shopping! I really love the concept of an indoor flea market however 90% of the items are not priced. Yes, it's a flea market so nothing is usually marked but these vendors hold their inventory here, they don't remove it every weekend so I don't understand why they can't price stuff. Half of the vendor owners weren't present so even if you wanted a price or wanted to buy something there is no one around to help. There is lots to see but the overall pricing is more antique mall / retail (eBay). I think paying $5 for a single issue of an 80s National Geographic is kind of ridiculous.

But yesterday we found , or finally noticed , this beautiful mid century modern teak 4 panel chinoiserie screen. The dealer was amicable to our offer and came right down to remove it from their display. We went up the street while they did n came back shortly to find it ready and one of the owners of the mall offered to even give us a blanket to pack it in our vehicle but we were fine. We were also offered to help with loading, but we were fine again. They're friendly in here and have a really broad selection for collectors of every level. But ya gotta dive in ! We know we walked past the screen we bought before but sometimes if you're looking for something in your minds eye, you don't see other things. Yesterday we were looking for chinoiserie and zeroed in right on it.

I also appreciate that they market themselves as a "Mercantile" and not an "antique store," as many "antique stores" sell a bunch of non-antiques which is frustrating, so I'm grateful for the straightforward and clear marketing! I found a couple of darling things for good prices that I'm very excited for, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see several staff members roaming the store, with one kind woman offering to hold our items up front while we shop! Everything I said about this place in my previous review, still rings true but they do have a lot of clothing that older women find appealing. So we found a beautiful smock blouse, long and floaty in a nice bright red and we brought it up to the counter. It was $160 plus with tax and all the girl did was wad up in a ball and stuff in a bag , but she even had to ask if we wanted a bag. Really these people don't care about what they're selling behind the counter I was appalled Do we want a bag? Did you think we were gonna wear it out? And what of the merchants there wouldn't they appreciate having their stock treated a little bit better with a little bit more respect.?

It's one of the few degreed grape growing & wine making programs in the country. And while I was in the Viticulture & Enology program I started exploring the surrounding areas & found the extremely beautiful, stunningly gorgeous rolling hills of North Texas wine country, Saint Jo, Muenster, Lake Murray, Arbuckle Mountains etc., I fell head over heels in love. Long story short, I found a little old farmhouse in the area on some land & decided that was where I was going to start my vineyard & Antique B&B, in North Texas wine country someday. Little did I know that would take 20 years LOL Well, as a Chef, it turned out, grape growing was not my talent, herbs & medicinal homeopathic medicine was. Yep, Cooking, gardening & making medicinal medicines & natural beauty products. My hubby's nickname for me is "Dr. Chef" Haha. I know, so corny. Anyway, so ambitiously without a care in the world, shouldn't take long I thought, I set out with my hair on fire to Chef, garden herbs, gut the farmhouse & rebuild it from scratch while I traveled the country working & collecting antiques along the way to build this dream of mine Antique B&B. 3 cottages was the plan. LOL 20 years later, that little dream of mine has now become a reality, mostly with the help of "Old Home Supply House." We bought a lot of cool stuff for the antique bathrooms from OHSH. I mean I looked all over the country and mostly found what I wanted right here in Ft. Worth for the antique bathrooms. For the guest bath, I wanted a old Brass antique free standing shower kit, that hangs from the ceiling, with small cast iron clawfoot tub all of which I got here. For the master suite, I wanted a antique brass & stainless steel faucet with two colored Gucci style shower phone handle, with a LARGE soaking cast iron antique claw foot tub, all of which I got here. Now, I didn't get them all at the same time. I collected it all over the years. It took a while to collect it all but it was worth it. You just Have to keep looking, searching & collecting. I made many trips to OHSH. Haha. Anyhoo, later, I found a tub guy in Dallas who refurbished the tubs. And he did a beautiful job. Then, Hubby installed them. It's been a interesting experience, Hubby & I wouldn't change a thing! We have enjoyed every second of living in Wine Country, Texoma area & rebuilding our old farmhouse. We are so very proud of it. We are completely "tickled pink." We just want to thank you guys so much for all your help in making our dreams a reality. We couldn't have done it without you. I didn't forget I told you guys last time I was there I would post some pics when we got the bathrooms done. Well, we did it! We finally finished them! LOL Thank you again Old Home Supply House! This mall is the largest in town and has a little bit, or a lot, of everything. Bigs, smalls, tea…read moreroom, different sections for different items, different cashier areas and lots of zig zags. Service is friendly and like other malls, they have roamers with keys to open cases. Price are average at best. They provide a map at the entrance of the layout, because many people get lost while browsing here. This took me 2 hours to run through and I was going fairly fast to give you an idea.

The help has always been pleasant. Well, usually pleasant. There are a couple people behind the counter that sometimes act like they are doing you a favor. My main problem with the place is that it doesn't have a lot of turnover. You can go there and see the same stuff week after week after week. There are literally pieces that have been in there four years. ( Ever since we moved to Fort Worth ). Now we go for mid-century modern and it's very scarce in there, but there are a couple dealers that seem to specialize in it. One has fair prices, but hardly any stock. The other one is fantasy land pricing with horrible taste. I mean we're talking Liberace on crack. Just really bad taste. And never in your life would you think you'd have to pay so much for bad taste, like Dolly Parton says it cost a lot of money to look this cheap! So there ya have it. We still go on occasion and we have purchased things in there in the past but right now I don't think I've got anything in the house that I kept that we got from there. Oh except for this awesome Raymor horse., that was a find. But usually we walk in there and walk right back out 20 mins later. We don't linger and we don't really poke around. There is one table, though that I wanted to buy from one of the dealers in the more junky part of the mall and I've asked about it. The dealer has it buried and she says at the front desk when they call her that it's sold, but it's been there for four years. Who does this???? I mean literally who puts something in their antique booth and then never sells it. It's not a display piece. It's a freakin end table. Crazy people. Anyway. The place must resonate with people in Fort Worth because like I said it's always busy. But I think it's location helps because you can see it from the highway and people driving through Fort Worth on 30 are bound to stop to check it out. Kind of like Pappadeaux and Papasito's tourist trap restaurants they're only busy because they're off of 30 .

You'll never know what you'll find and fall in love with here. It's also a big place, so even though the aisles between stalls/booths/areas are sometimes tight, it doesn't feel too terribly crowded when they're busy. Clawson's General Store is a Jem!…read more This quaint little shop is a treasure trove of antiquities and junk. I've never popped by that I haven't located something that I couldn't live without. The prices are fair and the quality of merchandise is impeccable. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable and always eager to offer assistance. There motto is: "Thus ain't no museum, this junk is for sale!" In my option it's worth to trip to White Settlement to check out this place. Shop owner was friendly and helpful, joked around with the husband. In response to a prior review, a shop at this price point isn't going to hold furniture based on a verbal request - they don't have the stock space or profit margin. Maybe 24 hours if they're being really nice and you are a long term customer. Totally unrealistic expectations.
