AMAZING MASTER STYLIST! You won't catch Cherise calling herself this, but she should. I came in being a little weary of going to a different salon from home, but itchy eyes and some collapsed fans forced the need for a fill. Cherise blew me away and I dare say blew my home salon's work away. I not only had collapsed fans but I had a number of eyelashes that had accidental multiples glued into one (causing the itching). I'm an artist and a mom. At home I wash dishes and dig around in the garden and use my hands, hard, which is why I don't normally dress them up (because they get wrecked). I cannot be thankful enough for Cherise and her nail salon. This hardworking, detail-oriented and friendly nail technician is the only person I will allow to touch my nails ever again. I've been to many nail places in the Kailua-Kona area per recommendations from clients and friends but none have satisfied like this salon does. I've known this woman for only a short amount of time and she fixed all my nail mishaps from other salons. (I used to have severely shaven down nails (to the point where it would be red) and amateur nail work). Whenever I have a nail emergency or just need to get my nails done, she responds very quickly and takes me in as soon as there is an appointment available (within a day or two). It is located in the King Kamehameha shopping mall which is between American Savings Bank and Honda dealership. Her shop is located near ginger and koi boutique so for a closer parking, park in the "more customer parking" area in the back. Went in with our friends while we were at PTA. The lady that did my friends nails was extremely hospitable and nice on the phone and in person. Note that she does not do glue on acrylic she only shapes them. rather than immediately reject a customer due to their laziness this lady made time to fit us in we also witnessed her make time for another client when she didn't have to. So... I waiting a good 24hours to write this review only because I wanted to make sure I wasn't putting any residual emotion behind it... I don't write bad reviews so this one is kind of hard, especially since I've had good experiences in the past... and I actually like the lady. I was having a horrible day & made the decision that instead of buying myself a hydro flask that I'd treat myself to a manicure, I looked up upperwest side because when I do decide to put something on the chemically un-natural side Cherise is the only one that doesn't destroy my nail beds. Thankfully she had an opening!!! I proceeded to ask if she did just a thin acrylic over lay on the natural nails. (I work in the service industry so I was trying to find something that wouldn't flake off in food or look grungy after 3 days) I could tell she was busy during the phone call so I kept it short & sweet & figured I could just ask my questions when I got there.. when I arrived she was finishing someone up but was still with me at the time she scheduled me for (she's always very efficient with time & service). This is when it got weird... I don't know a lot about the different kinds of things you can do, especially with all the nail art advancements... plus, it's not my career choice... so she asked me if I wanted a Gel or Acrylic overlay, well I know gel has burned my nail bed & when it breaks from a hard pump it has cracked my actual nail.. so my response was "I honestly don't know the difference but I know I don't like gel" (what I actually wasn't understanding was what an overlay actually meant) well instead of being informative & helping me out a little she just smirked & went silent.. I began to feel really stupid for not knowing the correct nail vocabulary.. she then asked me length, which my nails had a very nice starting length (HAD), so I asked her if she could match the rest to the length of my longest nail... she then told me "I don't have time for a full set, I only have time for an over lay"... at this point I'm wanting to crawl under the table & die, what a way to make horrible day better. She went silent again after this statement & proceeded to file my nails. So I finally got the guff to ask, "is the only difference between an overlay & a full set extending the length of the nail. Another smirk & quick yes leaves me dumbfounded... I was asking for no more than an 1/8th of an inch extension... and she didn't have time... it wouldn't have taken any more of her time. The entire experience was silent & uncomfortable, I even told her in the beginning "I really appreciate you fitting me in but if I'm inconveniencing you I could go.." she adjusted her attitude a little after that yet some how I still ended up with Gel (memory was correct, it BURNS when you put it under the lamp), shorter nails then what I came in with, all shaped crooked & sharp on one end, and grungy looking after 1 day of a light load work day. I spent $45 on a set that actually maxed out my day and left me outside on the bench bawling my eyes out & I even tipped her $10 for her horribly rude demeanor, inability to full fill her customers desires & making my day even worse. I have 1 broken nail & 3 others that have separated gel from nail & collected dirt under.. not to mention the others that I have to shape myself so that I don't end up with another broken mangled nail.. but hey, there at the end! Thanks for pretending to actually care what my nails looked like & getting a little excited about having orange glitter! My advice would simply be, take pride in what you do & if someone comes in a little uneducated realize they took the time for you, maybe you should take the time to teach & inform them instead of making them feel like a crumb of dirt on a kitchen floor. Oh & also... you live in a state of Aloha, maybe acknowledge that someone with a sad face who came into your salon alone might just need a little aloha to make their day better, I'm pretty sure that's why we pamper ourselves in general! I barely have luxury cash & honestly I wish I would have stuck with a hydro flask... I don't think it'd broke with in 24 hours at least! read more

I went to have services done on December 17th,2018.Very cute, cozy atmosphere, quaint only two spa chairs that I thought was more personalized individual service. I had my nails done with a process called Gel Nails. Needless to say on my right thumb finger you could see my natural nail and this occurred on Wednesday of the same week. I did phone and left a message and no call was returned. Phoned again on Thursday and spoke with the technical/owner Cherise, and she invited me to come in on Saturday, however I live a distance away and work 2 blocks away from the location Monday-Friday, so she said on Thursday Dec.27th,2018. I had my Pedi and Mani done for the Christmas holiday. Now instead of my thumb on my right hand its the other 4 fingers as well. At this point I canceled the Thursday appointment and request a refund for half the services. That would be $40.00 from the $75.00 that I paid her. Needless to say she reply with great quickness that she doesn't give refunds. I never had to deal with a situation like this ever. I wished her well in her business and blessings. Wow. Here on vacation - had an appointment that I was early for, but address was wrong online. So I got dropped off at the wrong place and had to walk to the actual address. Took me about 15 min. When I got there she tells me I can't have mani and pedi, I have to choose bc she doesn't have time for both. I chose pedicure. She scrubbed the sh*t out of my feet so much so that they felt raw, talking the entire time so I felt like she was not paying attention to what she was doing. I went to this salon on a recommendation by a friend. Cherise, the owner, was very negative, opinionated, and pushy about me doing things her way. She shared information about herself that I found too personal and uncomfortable. The salon was dark and dreary and cramped. I understand they are moving and expanding so that may no longer be an issue once they move. I had THE BEST experience getting a pedicure from Cherise yesterday!! I had no idea that I had two cracked nails lurking under my gel polish. This might have been a painful afternoon, but luckily I was sitting with the most caring and professional nail stylist on the planet!! Cherise spent extra time repairing my big toenails so that I can continue to do all the active things I do everyday. My feet take a beating and she made them feel wonderful. I can not say enough good things about her! She even made some recommendations for me on how to improve my nails long term, moisturizing! No one had ever taken the time to tell me this! I was referred to this place by a super nice woman at the Marriott who wasn't able to fix the tear in my gel nail (because they only have regular polish). When I walked in to this place, there was one employee there with a customer and she looked annoyed and didn't offer a greeting. Seeing she was busy I quickly explained that I just needed a quick coat and fifteen seconds under the gel light to temporarily seal the tear so it wouldn't get worse- not a new nail. She said she had no time the entire day to help and was overly rude when she said "I am not going to interrupt my customers to help you." In fact, people go to her to repair the bad jobs done at other salons. I was in Kona for my upcoming wedding and wanted just a simple gel polish change. I was disappointed to have a terrible first impression of this place after reading so many positive reviews. The shop was hard to find for this out of towner. The storefront is located next to another abandoned store. The salon has a privacy curtain that you can't see through, so I couldn't tell if they were still in business. The salon itself when I walked in looked old and drab. I was confused when I walked in, and stated that I couldn't tell from the outside if the store was open. The nail tech (only employee that I saw) snippily replied, "The sign says open." Her attitude was NOT friendly or welcoming. As a tourist, I have several choices on which establishments I choose to support. I was made to feel unwelcome and like I was interrupting.
