Soon after this shop opened a few years ago, I stopped by and got a brake adjusted. Took the guy a minute and then he said that's $15. I guess I had gotten too used to freebies, but it was a sticker-shock moment...... Fast forward to yesterday. I stopped in to get an overall bike check and to get an appointment to bring it back for maybe an overhaul. The brakes weren't staying adjusted; maybe need a new chain and cassette, who knows what else. It was a slow point mid-afternoon. Henry checked it out, and showed me without any patronizing attitude how I was not adjusting the brake properly, showed me the damage I had caused. He and Jason fixed it inside of 30 minutes. Could have told me I needed a lot more work done. Instead, no actually your tires look good, chain and cassette etc. are fine, you just want to change your gears before you start up the hill. Is that good or what? As we all slog through this tedious pandemic, it is really cool to see people doing straight-up, honest work. I am totally sold on this place. read more

Westside Bicycle is awesome and I'm so glad to have it in our community. Three of our bikes were recently tuned there and every part of the process was top-shelf, from making appointments to the bike work itself and pickup. The staff is super friendly, and the space is beautiful. Two of our bikes were new and needed the whole enchilada of final assembly and tuning, but one of the bikes--to my surprise--didn't need a full tune and Westside refunded the difference (since I prepaid). I was helped right away when I entered to pick up an online order. When asked what else I needed, I said I was replacing my cables. Rather than helping me find the spare parts, I got mansplained on how to cut housing and wrap my handlebars. I know he was trying to be helpful. I have been going to Westside Bicycle since I moved to West Seattle four years ago. The staff are always friendly and helpful and make me feel comfortable. Many other bike shops are not that friendly to female bikers. Jason, a mechanic, greets me by name, is always cheerful and kind, and knows his stuff! Last week I took my bike in and Chad made a suggestion I hadn't considered that changed my life! I now ride up hills with relative ease. A few weeks before a trip to Oakridge I decided it was time to upgrade the bike. During Covid. Mid-summer, peak riding season. Most shops were sold out of quality 2020 stock. I reached out to the internet to see if I might be able to pick up a used bike of a desired model. Westside owner, Peter, contacted me directly and arranged to order a new Specialized Stumpy Evo. He said he couldn't promise it would be ready by my trip, but that he'd make every effort. Clearly he worked some magic as the bike was in his shop within a few days, built to spec (i.e. tubeless) at no up-charge and ready to ride. Some friends were passing through Seattle on the way south so I had them pick the bike up. Given the Westside Bridge closure, it was going to be a goat rodeo - Peter offered to drop the bike with my friends near I5. Talk about commitment to service and customer needs. The most disorganized place I've ever been to. We brought our bike in right when they opened to get our chain ring replaced. This should take 10 minutes, they told us it should be ready in half an hour so we came back 1.5hrs later on our way to Tiger Mountain. when we arrived they said it wouldn't be ready till the end of the day and they had not started. They were not helpful what so ever. We are never going there again and I don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Best bike buying experience I've ever had. Let me take a couple long test rides, and put the bike on hold for day while I made up my mind. After purchasing and riding for a week, I could tell the stock geometry wasn't a perfect match for my bad back, so their bike fitter spent two hours with me getting the bike dialed in, swapping the stem and saddle. I recently bought a bike off Craigslist and brought it in to get a tune up. I don't know much about bikes and wasn't trying to disguise that when I went in. Their work is good; however, I'm taking off stars because they were pretentious. When I dropped off the bike the employee who checked me in asked how much I had paid for my bike and when I brought it back a DIFFERENT employee said to me, "So, I heard you paid like $400 for this bike. Is that true? Because if it is, you should go beat that guy up and get your money back." For the record, it wasn't true. I left feeling annoyed that not only do they gossip about their customers, but that they also are so openly judgmental about it. A good bike shop shouldn't make their customers feel bad about their bike just because it's not a top-of-the-line model. read more

Very disappointed in the repairs on my bike. The first day I took it there, the one guy smashed the headset with a hammer and many of the bolts popped out. I had just asked for him to take a look. He had to hand it off to a more experienced guy. This fellow fixed the damage and then tightened the brakes. But he tightened them so much, that two rides later, the back tire was smashed up against the frame and I couldn't move the tire! I took it back again and he fixed it... for now. I'm scared to see what other damage they have done. I'm very frustrated that they charged me for the parts because I had just replaced those parts this summer. They had been perfectly fine, prior to walking into this shop. I definitely need to find a different shop that doesn't break my bike each time I go in. read more

This place is my premier choice out of the cycle shops in West Seattle. I am a veteran cyclist but I've never worked on any of my bikes. It's just not a skillset I possess. And I will be the first to tell you I know practically nothing about the anatomy of my bike outside Basics 101. I suit up, clip in and spin for miles - that's what I do. Westside Bicycle has been very kind to me every time I come in with totally apparent lack of knowledge. The cool thing is they are good about educating me and helping me to understand what I've done "this time" to my bike. I need to know I can trust the folks working on my bike and making recommendations - I trust Westside Bicycle. The other great thing is they explain to me my options so that I can make a smart choice for myself, my riding style and my wallet. They don't talk "over" me. I really appreciate that! They are friendly, attentive and really know bicycles and how to diagnose a root cause to an issue. I am very cognizant that my description of the problem-at-large is rudimentary, so again, I appreciate their patience and keen ability to figure it out for me. I just want to ride my bike! I called Sunday afternoon and after some initial confusion, Shido found my bike and made sure it was ready for me to pick up.
