I was on my way to dinner on the UWS and had some time to kill. Instead of loitering outside in the rain, I noticed Westside Market right across the street - since I can always pick something up, I decided to head in and check it out. I'm not a connoisseur of food markets in Manhattan, but immediately upon walking into Westside I was impressed with what I saw. It's not large, as expected, but the shelves were well stocked and faced beautifully - super pleasing to the eye. The selection is also good - having everything one would expect. I noticed they carried a salad dressing brand I regularly use, and had some flavors I had never seen before; cut to me purchasing two bottles. Checkout was fast and efficient, and overall I had a smooth experience at Westside Market. The market is clean, neat, organized, and has a great selection - an overall yes. read more

Westside Market on the Upper East Side is still my favorite place for delicious inexpensive scones, muffins and other pastries. The employees on the floor and at the register are very nice and make me feel welcome here. The cashier today was very helpful. I was delighted when the WSM opened on the corner and have loved having it so close by. However, the recent price hikes are ridiculous and I have walked out of that store several times lately due to noticing 40% increases. Tea has doubled in price, same with avocados and grapes. Pros: *Close, local grocery market *Large variety of vegetables, fruits, cheeses, and prepared foods *Select household items also sold here, such as laundry detergent, dish soap, etc. Cons: *Expensive: bought cereal, milk, two plums, yogurt, and eggs for approx. $36 *Rude staff: they will not bag anything for you and likely will not say a single word to you at all *Although there is a large selection and variety of prepared foods, they are all really, really bad. The sandwiches are the only edible items but far from good. Their prepared salads contained the lettuce cores in the 3/3 times I tried them. The grilled chicken breasts are basically jerky. Pasta had literal piles of red pepper flakes in it. And the list goes on. The market is really close to my apartment so I've been here often, but each time I leave wondering why I gave it another chance. It's like they have the recipes to make the food items, but add the ingredients in piles just to check it off the list. Been here a few times. It's a fine place for basics (milk, pastry, etc) but it's pricey compared to other stores nearby. A lot of the fruit is bruised and doesn't look fresh. This is a great local grocery store that has a wonderful array of goods despite being relatively small compared to larger chains. It's much more pleasant and efficient to shop here because it's not oversized and the prices are fair compared to its peers. They also make good prepared salads which are great for a meal away from home like a picnic. Produce section is quite large and is bigger and better stocked than Whole Foods which has many more total square feet. Everything is kept in stock and the staff are very profesional and hard working. Happy to have you this place in the neighborhood. I would love to see a wider array of grass-fed meat cuts. They always have ground beef and one or two cuts of grass fed beef but would buy more if they had others too. Also want to give a special mention to the manager tonight. An elderly customer refused to wear a mask while shopping. He politely but firmly insisted she put on the mask while she unnecessarily hurled disgusting verbal abuse at him. Grocery shopping is somewhat doable but they definitely don't have everything you need. Fruit is okay. Prepared food aisle - don't waste your time. Food is disgusting. The food selection here is great however the one thing that this Westside Market location sorely lacks is customer service. First the cashiers never make eye contact with the customer, they chat with each other while ringing up customers orders, and they don't offer to help bag your groceries. Not exactly an indication of friendly service. Today when i informed the cashier I intended to buy a case of water and thus needed a reusable bag, she told me they didn't have any and proceeded to ring up my order. We hosted an event at the 92NY and purchased all our non-alcoholic drinks from Westside Market. I had a great experience! Armando, one of the store managers, was incredibly client-oriented and helpful. I was not familiar with the store and he took the time to show me the aisles with all the drinks and beverage options. He also told me he could special order items if needed. I thought the store's prices were quite reasonable too. On the day of the party, Westside Market delivered the drinks on time and chilled. The store is literally across the street from the 92NY, so it's an incredibly easy and convenient place to purchase stuff if you are host an event at the 92NY. read more

They lost our tax exempt form (my company is non-profit) 3 times, and each time I complained, they threw their own people (managers!) under the bus ("she didn't know what she was talking about"). After a brief spell of no problems, suddenly they're charging tax again. When I marched in to complain, they said that the person who would know what happened wasn't in. If you've input the info into the company profile, how or why does it get changed?! They don't have enough cashiers, their cheese platters are tasteless, their staff has no clue, slipshod service and mediocre stock make for sub-par experience. Stay far away! I have been coming to this market almost every week day on my way to work for about 6 years. On Monday I bought their low fat shrimp salad for lunch and when I opened it there was the worst smell I think I have ever smelled. The shrimp mushed together like mashed potatoes when I pushed on them with a fork. I tossed them in the trash. I am usually not a complainer but I thought I would mention it to them the next morning when I was there. Maybe they would give me a credit toward the purchase I was making that day. The manager Armando acted like he had never seen me before and asked for my receipt. I told him I generally decline a receipt and reminded him that this happened the day prior and he knows I come in every day. He said "no receipt, no refund". I told him that I would accept this but I would not return to the store ever again. He said "no problem". Very nice neighborhood supermarket. I just wanted to mentioned the Family Farmstead whole milk (cream on top) I got last week is incredible. It tasted so natural and fresh and lighter or easier to digest than regular whole milks. I love that it is from A2 cows, which are basically French breed cows that produced the best dairy. Today I went back but didn't buy it again because the milking the shelves was expiring in two days. I hope to see a new badge of this milk soon! read more

Once again a week ago I bought a slab of cheese in plastic wrap called Imported Parrono...The samples they put out in a basket next to it were delicious, so I figured the cheese would be good and not have that counter cleaner flavor. I was wrong. To my disappointment it had the distinctive same counter cleaner taste I have had an issue with cheese and meat before. I noticed it immediately on the first taste at home. The cheese is still in the fridge, uneaten, not sure I will bother returning it. I have tried to alert the manager there to the problem some time ago several times to no avail.
