Review is for their sailing camp! This was our second year attending Westwind Sailing, and once again, it exceeded our expectations! My boys absolutely love this camp -- the sailing, the teamwork, the fun -- it's all top notch. This year, we ran into an unexpected situation where one of my sons wasn't able to attend, even though we had signed up well in advance. Based on the camp's policy, Westwind could have easily told us there was nothing they could do -- but they did the opposite. They were quick to respond, incredibly understanding, and went out of their way to accommodate us. In a world where customer service can be hit-or-miss, their compassion and professionalism really stood out. Another lovely moment: during the "practice capsizing" day, my elderly parents came to watch. Without us asking, the amazing staff brought out chairs for them so they could sit and enjoy the event comfortably. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare and speaks volumes about the team behind this camp. We're so grateful for everything Westwind Sailing offers -- from the wonderful instruction to the truly kind and caring staff. Highly recommend this camp to anyone considering it! read more

Extremely rude staff ! They refused renting us Kayak with excuses but after us they were renting it to others when we asked for reasons they responded we have no answer for you !!! When we complained to the manager the girl apologized and said I didn't know our policy we were short staff ! Why would them lie to us saying summer hours are over and they ended up saying being short staffed and lack of knowledge of their own policy??? read more

I called several locations when looking to take my friends paddling for the first time and Glen was the perfect instructor and coach in getting them on the water. We've been coming to Westwind for awhile now, it's a great place to rent SUP & kayak in Dana Point. $25 per hour and the beauty of it is that you launch right at the dock. No lugging the heavy board across the street to a designated area. Staff is friendly and helpful, there is no wait on weekday. But sometimes, the tent is not there and no info as to what happened. I'm thinking the camp counselors could use more training. First day out my son gets kicked and punched in the stomach by another kid. I'm told that it was just "rough play". Hmmm... doesn't sound like safety first to me. My son gets called disrespectful when he gets overwhelmed and scared when he thinks his boat full of seasick camp mates is getting pulled out to sea and is having trouble following the instructions and has to yell back for help. Experience was absolutely terrible. The winds picked up furiously about 20 minutes in, where we could not get our board back..we got pushed into the rocks and had to climb out from there. Called the number provided at least 10 times asking for help as there was no easy way to get the board back to their area without driving back. Even left voicemails. No answer, no call back. We finally had a Good Samaritan help us that loaded up the board in their small vehicle to drive us back. We got back around 230, and they were all packed and closed up and waiting for us so they could go home..even though it said they closed at 4 pm. I told them how we were stranded for awhile and how we were trying to call and they said "oh the phone goes to the office, not to us" ..how stupid is that of a business?!?! And THEN they had the audacity to charge us additional bc we were technically about 10 minutes past our return time. Didn't tell us this until I saw the charge from my bank. Just disappointing all around. read more

This is where you want to go if you are learning how to paddle board. Having the location on a doc makes it super easy to just get in the water without having to carry around a board. The gear is great for beginners as you don't have to worry about banging it up. The gear is not meant for high end paddlers but more for the casual paddler. I recommend getting there about 8:30 am, they open at 9 and even during the week it starts to get busy pretty early. Parking also gets pretty tough later on in the day. I'm a local and have my own board, but when family and friends come to visit, I take them here to get a board. The water is clear and warm today easily spotting fish. The introduction to the SUP safety briefing is very entertaining. There are a variety SUP boards to choose from and even a coffee table is available under the secret menu. Baby Beach is just that, a beach for babies (and families)! It's a nice gently sloping beach in middle of Dana Point Harbor. Perfect for families with young children. There are always families at picnic tables next to beach celebrating events which makes for a nice vibe. There are no waves, just boat wakes and wind waves, but even those are tiny and not dangerous for any of the little ones that wander into the water. read more

Just spoke with a representative at this location, who sounds like the same person in the Business voicemail. I had some general questions about the location, such as when the best time to go is, can I bring my toddler, etc. She was irritated to speak with me and not very helpful even though I was super polite to her. She told me they are always busy and there's no best time. She didn't have any recommendations for parking, but based on her reaction I figure get there way early??? What time that is - who knows?! I ended the conversation by saying, "Well, hope to see you soon!" The sentiment was not reciprocated. It wasn't clear who was serving who here. I definitely recommend this rep take some classes on customer service or just plain manners. Guess you don't need our business. We'll go somewhere else. read more

This place is pretty awesome. It was so easy for my husband and I to rent out a SUP and the rates were pretty great. $25/hr and we only had to wait for about 45 minutes to get a board on Labor Day weekend. That's pretty fast considering it was a holiday. The staff was very chipper and accommodating. When it was our turn to launch out the got our paddles ready for us and helped us load onto the paddle board. We were pretty happy that we chose Dana Point Harbor because the waters aren't as choppy. I did take a fall trying to turn around at the very end, but it was a fun experience being out on the water floating through the harbor. read more

We had a group lesson today and our whole experience was amazing. Kaleigh was our instructor and she was both knowledgeable and helpful especially when it came to my specials needs son. She showed us how to safely get on the paddle boards and how to stand up. Also gave us tips on maneuvering in the water especially when we were drifting away. We will definitely return and rent paddle boards here! The cost is $30 pp for a 1-hour lesson. Arrive 20 minutes early to gear up and maximize your time in the water. read more

The staff here has been horrible both times that I have come I would not recommend it if that's something you care about, I thought the first time maybe it was just one bad experience but I came back and once again the staff treated us horribly again, it really makes it an uncomfortably experience unfortunately and I'm really not one to complain but the way they treated us with no regard was just unacceptable. read more

I sent my son to the sailing camp for a week, IT WAS HORRIBLE. The councilors were rude, the sail boats were old rusty, and didn't work! The manager, Steve was rude, obnoxious, he verbally assaulted my child multiple times everyday and made my child break down in the car crying. I felt like a horrible parent having to send him to this sailing camp for a week. Not only was the manager rude, his staff were rude. 2 names that kept showing up were Cameron and Gray. Cameron called my child, pardon my language, a F-ing Idiot and would make fun of him for not knowing how to set up the sail fast and incorrect. The other instructor was Gray. She would get mad at my child for just asking multiple questions! She also did the same thing as Cameron. Just overall these instructors were rude and the experience was awful. read more

It is Spring break, and as part of my daughter's staycation, I bring my daughter and her friend paddle boarding. A girlfriend told me about her wonderful experience at West so it was an easy choice when choosing a paddle board venue. Glen who works on the main deck when we check in is awesome. Our long adventure shortened we went out too far, and we had a very long against the current paddle back. The paddle board adventure went well beyond our paid time. Glen was very understanding and waived additional fees- thanks, Glen. My daughter will be back! I most likely will be watching my daughter paddle board from the shore. read more

Came here yesterday with my friend to go Kayaking. A chilly Tuesday morning in January. The price was only 20$ for a 2 person Kayak for an hour. The guy locked our stuff for us, gave us life vests, and helped us into the boat. He was very kind, personable, and knowledgeable. He told us about the best ways we could go about our little adventure. Since it was a slow morning he wasnt super strict on the time constraint which can often make these activities stressful. Along the way waters were perfectly calm for kayaking, and the harbor was nice and empty. We had the opportunity to sea 3 seals! Later when we returned since it was quite an empty day he let us try out the paddle boards and gave us a quick lesson and even took a few pictures of us. We had an amazing experience and would definitely reccomend thus place for their service, prices, and quality of their rental products. read more

As a teacher, I know that Westwind is a very popular activity for students. The summer sailing camps are all they ever talk about in the first few weeks after the summer (that, and Pokemon), and it's not uncommon to see them wear their camp shirts to school. I've been down to the facility myself, and it's quite a thing to see. They were very organized in their outdoor, sun-covered classes; the children were well-watched and the camp leaders seemed pretty sensitive to their needs. As a teacher AND someone with a sailing background, their lessons were well thought-out and appropriate for their young audience. Beyond that, they had a pretty safe program--Even out on the water. Although there wasn't an adult in each boat (which would have been overkill), ALL students and instructors were in lifejackets, confined to a small area, and were watched closely from motorboats. Most importantly, everyone was having a blast. Ahh, to be young again! read more

All three of my kids attended a week-long camp at Westwind this summer, and all three LOVED it! My younger ones were upset that it was only a week long...! The staff was friendly and helpful, took great care of the kids, and were patient and kind and fun-loving. There are some true gems that work there! During the camps not only did my kids learn about boat safety and sailing, but they also learned about teamwork, responsible boating and beach-going, and marine life. The programs are very well rounded, and each different camp offers a unique and age-appropriate experience. I am extremely pleased with the quality of the programs and the staff, and would not hesitate to recommend Westwind's programs to any parent whose child is interested in boating. Can't say enough great things about these guys! I recently signed up for the club with my whole family. We went down everyday over this Labor Day Weekend. They were extremely busy, but just super friendly and really did a fantastic job managing the crowd. They are super informative for the newbies and it's just a great price for some fun on the water!
