Small location but very close to Dana Point harbor where my boat is locked. When they have what I'm looking for it's very convenient. Stock and selection is limited by the Small store size. Prices are typical for west marine which is to say somewhat higher than average, but worth it for the convenience factor. I'll be back. read more

Meh. It's West Marine. If you're hear for real boat stuff, you should have planned ahead and ordered your stuff online. If you're hear for overpriced throw pillows with anchors on them, you're in the right place. Greatest selection of fenders on the planet. But a very narrow and overpriced range of what you actually need. read more

Today instead of me having to rummage around for plumbing hardware like an animal at Home Depot, Stephanie asked if I needed help finding everything and then she got out the parts book, grabbed the sku's, searched the computer and had EVERYTHING off the shelf and into my hands in a few minutes. Had ridiculously horrible customer service FROM THE STORE MANGER at the Newport location I live next door to & have been loyal customer of for many years and wanted to go over Maria's incompetent head & speak to the district manager & make her aware of my disappointment with the Newport location, so I called Dana Point to get the info. Kimberly, the assistant manger, was polite & extremely helpful & funny too. She gave me the DMs cell # & also took the time to listen to me vent about the Newport store & their incompetence. Kimberly also offered to fix what Maria clearly chose not to. I wish Kimberly was the manger of the one next to me instead of Dana Point. She's informative, professional, delivers great customer service & knows West Marines policies, unlike Maria in Newport. Also speaking with Roz, the DM, was pleasant exchange as well. Roz apologized & resolved the issue. Good customer service is hard to find these days. Roz & Kimberly deserve a raise! read more

Question, why is the West Marine in Oceanside larger and has way more in inventory for a marina with 950 slips and Dana Point West Marine is so small and lacks inventory and is close to the marina with 2400 slips. Have an answer? read more

So this past Saturday my bimini top took a dive and I needed to go and order a new one. I was thinking that I really didn't want to spend the $500 bucks but I really didn't have a choice. I'm Eastern European-born in Michigan white and was not made for the sun. I need shade on the deck of my boat unless I want to turn pink and then fluff off a few layers of skin. I head in to West Marine (not the low price leader by any means) to order one and this kid behind the counter takes a good 20 minutes with me trying find the right one. When we finish figuring it out he asks me what happened to mine and I told him. He looked at me and said, "You know I can show you how to fix that." I said, "Really?" He said, "Follow me" and I did. He grabbed some replacement pieces off of a shelf and handed them to me. $20 bucks and 15 minutes later I had a good as new bimini. Cheers to the underpaid kid that is smarter than me! I give West Marine 3 stars and that brilliant going to be running a major corporation someday kid 5 stars. If anyone from West Marine reads this, please give that kid a raise. read more

extremely poor customer service. i bought an XL Sport Umbrella there, they took down all my information, my name, address, email, phone number, but when the Umbrella started breaking apart and i took it back they couldn't find my name in their system and refused to honor the exchange or return. really disappointing! i can buy a new Umbrella but you can't buy when a store takes good care of you and West Marine made me feel like a whole lot less than a valued customer. the $50 umbrella we can buy at a different store. the $3000 inflatable we were looking at we can also buy someplace else. read more

As a boat captain, I frequent West Marine stores from San Diego to Long Beach, often several times per day. I was appalled at the "customer service" I encountered in dealing with the store manager, Arial. The dispute arose over having change for a $100 bill for my $27 dollar purchase. The cashier asked Arial to break a $100 bill and Arial asked "how much is the sale, because we din't accept $100 bills for sales under $25." The cashier replied it was for $27, to which Arial replied "I mean we don't accept $100 bills for sales under $50." Needless to say, I was irritated at this flip flop in policy. I indicated that if this is "store pilicy" as Arial stated, that there should be a sign behind the register. She said that it's a problem having customers (in the yachting community) who try to pay with $100 bills and that I should go to the bank for change. I replied that she should have gone to the bank yesterday to ensure she had enough change for all the "problem" customers that patronize west marine. And as it was Sunday, the bank were closed. Thankfully, another customer stepped in, able to break the $100 bill and save West Marine Dana Point my business that day. I will never go to West Marine Dana Point as long as Arial is store manager. She needs further training in management, customer service, and basic manners. read more

This store is very poorly run. No Stock Marine. If you need a repair part they are not going to have it. I'm always asked if they can order the part or item. Even told "you should plan ahead". Yep, I should know exactly when my bilge pumps are gonna stop working or when a shackle is going to snap. Why would I want to order it from WM when if I need to order it I can ALWAYS get it much cheaper and quicker online through another vendor including Amazon. read more

Always great service and if they don't have what you are looking for on the shelf, they will have it next day from their warehouse and they call you when it arrives. Great service, store is well laid out and excellent advice. They have been very patient with me when explaining things, I've gone in there many times with a photo and they find the right replacement part the first time. West Marine makes boat renovations much easier and all of their convenient locations within close range of the harbors helps too! read more
