Continuing on my boba tea quest and stopped into this fabulous shop to cool myself from the summer heat. Nice and quiet, ample seating with large selection to fit most anyone's tea pleasure. Service was friendly and quick and the teas were very flavorful as well. If you are in the neighborhood, don't pass up this sweet treat spot!
On a recent trip to Virginia Beach, we were craving boba (bubble tea). We checked out Whale Tea and loved the cute interior. Ordering was done through their self-service kiosk. Luckily, no one was behind us because placed a few drink orders plus one of their Stuffed Smiley Bites (egg-shaped pancake-tasting treat). I was drawn by the beautiful blue in one of their drinks and ordered. I had the Whale Crystal (Coconut Milk). At first sip, I was actually disappointed and didn't like it at all. The flavors and texture just didn't work for me. I tried a couple sips of the Taro Fresh Milk and that was way better than what I had. Our party also ordered a regular Milk Tea and Jasmine Tea Crystal (Coconut Milk). Mixed feelings on our drinks but we did enjoy the Stuffed Smiley Bites (Chocolate). The day we came (Sunday), there were 2 parties ahead of us. Most of us were sitting around without drinks. I'm sure those ahead of us were waiting long as well. The total wait time for our 4 drinks and egg bites were 40 minutes. Whale Tea helped satisfy our boba cravings though. It's not as good as the ones I've had in California but definitely not the worst either. Kind staff. Cute interior. Long wait time. Note: Located in the E Mart shopping center.
Whale Tea locations have been popping up, and this location is one that had recently opened up. Their menu is extensive, offering fresh fruit milk teas, fresh milk teas, teas with milk foam, teals with crystal jellies, etc. We came here after having a meal in the area, and we ordered: +a Grapefruit Fruit Tea +an Orange Lemon Fruit Tea The drinks themselves were just okay - they were a bit watered down, and I just wish the tea was steeped longer and was much stronger. I think with this and the fresh fruit, it would have tasted great and refreshing. There are a couple of kiosks that you order from; if you sign up for their loyalty program, you can save on your very first purchase - so, do it! Loved the oversized giant claw machine with Dumbo inside, as well as the other claw machine with cute little plushies, featuring Sanrio characters! The staff are very kind and welcoming! There are plenty of seating inside if you wanted to stay and enjoy your drink. Do you like crane games? Do you like cute stuffed animals? Do you also like Boba? Well this is the place for you. They recently added all of these crane games, and let me tell you it is addicting. Try to win your favorite stuffed animal while you wait for your Boba. It has a cute white and blue aesthetic. Whale Tea has a unique set of Boba drinks using coconut milk. You gotta give the OG coconut drink a try. I also go the brown sugar milk tea which was super good, and the tapioca were sweet and soft. LOOK AT HOW CUTE THESE CHOCO EGGS ARE!! Literally adorable. Service is fast, and you use the tap screen to order. I kept missing the frog in the crane game, I will get it one day!
After eating lunch, Sophia and I drove here for some dessert via the $5 deal for Yelp celebrating Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We came here weeks ago for Yelp Elite week where I chose the Blue Crystal tea. And we stopped by the Yorktown location last weekend. So would the third visit overall seal the deal? We were greeted by the staff once we walked in. Luckily, foot traffic was at a minimum so service was quick. As mentioned previously, it comes with claw machines that kids would love and adults could relive nostalgia. And the decor is beautiful and spotless. As part of the $5 deal, I received a Blue Crystal Tea with 50% ice and 75% sugar (for Sophia) and a Pineapple Fruit Tea w/tapioca pearls, 75% sugar and 50% ice (for myself). Pretty good stuff. The fruit tea wasn't too sweet and the tapioca was quite warm. Just the right temperature needed. This was my first time having fruit tea and it did not disappoint at all. Sophia took my advice and just had the blue jelly as the only ingredient in hers and gave me thumbs up. This was definitely a way to end our stay in Virginia Beach. This place here is becoming a new favorite for boba teas. We do have the location in Yorktown that's closer, but wouldn't mind stopping by the next time we're in the area. Till next time :)
Service is great. Fast to help and very helpful suggesting drinks. I love that since these drinks are very unique. I went wild and bought 3 drinks for myself. The whale is my favorite and I added strawberry popping bubbles Lychee slush is super cute with a lid that has bear ears The blue crystals was a little plain for me since I like fruit. But it's very pretty and I'm glad I tried it. Last time I tried the brown sugar. I'm going to order the strawberry milk next time. My initial visit to this Whale Tea location was on Friday, 5/12/23. I intended to use the Yelp Elite Experience to grab a complimentary drink while I got to know the place, but upon arrival they looked too busy to accommodate that request. Whale Tea is a small - when there are a bunch of people visiting it can get crowded. That's the situation I felt I was in, so I looked at the menu (displayed above two self-serve kiosks at the front counter) to order as a regular customer. Whale Tea's menu was prominently displayed on two flatscreen TVs hanging from the ceiling. I opted to try a milk tea (instead of my usual choice of a fruit tea) by ordering a Creme Brulee Matcha tea. The ordering process is straightforward and the touchscreen makes ordering that much easier. Whale Tea gives you the option of more/less sugar, more/less ice, so that's always good. After typing in your name (they will call it out once your order is ready), I paid using my phone (they accept Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay) and waited for my order. When it's busy, "made to order" is code for, "This may take a minute," so I waited at a community high-table to the left of the front door. Next to that high-table were three game machines, the ones which you can win prizes. The one on the left has a giant stuffed bear, while the remaining two on the right have numerous smaller items. These games, combined with the decor, gave off the impression I was in a Sanrio store. All good, imo, as long as my order tastes good. I'd say I waited 7-10 minutes before my order was ready. Depending on the employee, their volume when calling your name may vary. One person (a male) was loud enough for everyone to hear, while a female co-worker barely let out a breath, let alone a sound. So you may want to pay attention to the pick-up section so you won't have to wait any longer than you have to. One issue - I believe the kiosks aren't spaced far enough. When I came up to the left kiosk, the person using the right one was taking up space in a way that I had to lean in to order. I think there's an obstruction (a game machine) to the right of the right kiosk, but long story short, there simply isn't enough space. These days, post-COVID, I'm not about any of that. This needs to be addressed. Overall, Whale Tea is a good spot for specialty teas. They seem to have trouble during rushes, so be ready to wait a little if you come in while it's busy. Cute new boba shop! We ordered the Crème Brûlée Taro, Matcha Fresh Milk and Whale Crystal. All super creamy and delicious! The taro drink was definitely not as sweet as other boba places. I got 100% sweetness and I found it comparable to other places 50-75% sweetness (which I appreciated!). There was also a 130% sweetness option if you want your drinks sweeter. I loved that they used real taro in my drink, it definitely added more texture and didn't taste as artificial! The matcha flavor in the matcha fresh milk definitely came through! Was not chalky which I loved. The Whale Crystal was also delicious! Very coconut-like :) The staff was so sweet and welcoming! I didn't want to leave my poor little pup in the car so I stuffed him in my jacket since we were ordering to-go and the owners did not mind at all and thought he was precious and cute. I thought this was very sweet. They were also super quick to get our drinks out and had no problems answering any questions we had about the place/menu :) I also loved the little coasters that emit light! It adds a cool little touch, especially for pics! Will definitely be returning to try more of their drinks!
I love whale tea. The decor is so cute and the employees are so friendly. My fav is the Oreo milk. It's creamy and delicious and tastes like cookies and cream. I usually switch it up every time I come though because there are so many goodies to try. I like watching people play with the claw machine inside too.
Delicious flavors every visit. Yesterday was the creme brûlée brown sugar, today was black tea milk foam. Love that they have a variety of dairy products to choose from as well as different sugar and ice levels. Still 50/50 if I like how milky their drinks are. Curious if they can blend the ice and milk, possibly request it next time. Service was still amazing. The store is still in its soft opening so expect their grand opening to live up to the hype. The store setup is still out of this world. We'll organized in ordering yourself, love the decor. Even though it's limited seating, it's still very welcoming. I'll be back to try more flavors. 4/5 because the staff is still learning and gives them room to grow. read more

Every since I moved from LA I've been searching for a new spot for GOOD boba. I did a random search and this placed showed up with really good reviews so I tried it out. No joke the boba is so delicious. The drink was amazing!!! Felt Like I never left LA. The shop is so cute with the stuffed animal machines and the huge boba cup drink in the front. I have yet to try the stuffed egg dessert but that's on my mind. The staff is really friendly and that's something I look for. Will be coming back 100/100! read more

I've been coming to Whale Tea since the first day they opened & I love that I never once had a negative experience with customer service nor with my drinks. The ambience is bright and cozy. I also love that they always have some kind of promotions, cashbacks with every purchase, & even claw machines to play with while waiting for your drinks. Very cute decor! Loved the drinks the oolong tea is very authentic and you can tell they use real tea. Less sweet than most boba places which I enjoy! They use real taro, tastes very authentic. I highly recommend the taro milk creme brûlée tea. Easily my new favorite boba shop in the area! read more

Whale Tea is located in the strip mall of Princess Anne Rd & Baxter Rd. On this warm night in August, the place was busy. However, the grapefruit tea was refreshing. Dining area was cheerful and bright. Order through the kiosk was simple but no cash. read more

The food is really good! I definitely enjoy their waffles, whether I choose chocolate, or Oreo! Along with their food their boba is really great and they have a wide variety to choose from. In addition, they make sure to get every single thing right of what you want. The service is good as well! They are always very kind and seem cheerful. The ambiance is calm and very light. I can absolutely see why this place is already so well loved. A few people told me that this was there to go place already for tea! I now see exactly why. When I first went into Whale Tea what I loved was the set up. Very welcoming place for a first time person getting into the swing of bubble tea! So bright, clean, and a lot of claw machines and cute decorations that immediately make you want to not just buy from them, but explore the store as a whole! They have the store decorated with a Sanrio/Hello Kitty claw machine, and Kakao/Line friends everywhere, and KAWS, which are all very familiar and fun as I love all of those things lol. I really enjoyed how clean and organized they were. Everything was just so tidy and these days sadly that's hard to find. You go into someone place and it's just a mess top to bottom. I love that they care enough to keep it clean constantly. (I say constantly because during my visit I saw people come out to check on things. Made me even more comfortable!). You can literally smell everything brewing fresh, and the warm smell of egg waffle wafting in the air! Now the egg waffles, baby let me get down to it. You NEEED them, you don't just want them...you NEED them. I haven't had these since I was back home in NYC walking through Chinatown. It gave me memories of being back in school and walking to the waffle carts after school for hot waffles! These are freshly made so if you're looking to rush out, you need to order another day when you can be patient!!! (Yes, you! As they are working at a fast and consistent pace for FRESH waffles). They offer 3 flavors: Cheese, chocolate, and pork floss. They were out of pork floss, and I mean I get why they're utterly amazing. I got the cheese, but that's what I planned on getting regardless so I was happy they hadn't sold out yet. When they came out, the first thing that hits you is that fresh sweet warm smell of waffle. I literally kept smelling them, because it's a scene that brings back so many memories for me. Biting into them, they're so soft and you get that cheesy salt taste! I really love a sweet and salty combo so it's always a party in every bite for me lol. I went with the lychee fruit tea which was 50 percent for sugar and 50 for ice. Next time I'll do 75 percent ice cause I'm an ice queen , but honestly if you're someone who complains about that "I want more drink" thing then 50 percent is for you! Either way I think you get more than enough. Not too sweet, tasted so fresh and smooth, I also love the little fresh bites of lychee cause I'm a fiend for it. My boyfriend got the blue crystal, and was surprised by how much he loved it. A milky smooth coconut taste with a very delicious jelly that works perfectly with every sip of the coconut drink. Very tropical in a Milky Way like pina colada vibes but ten times more subtle. The more he had the more he loved it, it's one of those drinks you sip nice and slow to enjoy truly how much flavor depth it has! Also, they have display stands you can put your blue crystal drink on and it lights up, yeah you heard me...DISPLAY STANDS CAUSE THAT DRINK IS A STAR! SHES A SHOW STOPPER AND YOU WILL GIVE HER THAT ATTENTION LOL. I just love it so much, and can see this is a real addition to a community bubble tea wise. With so many shops opening up, it's good to stand out in as many ways as possible and this place does it well from flavor, to options, to overall vibe they're very creative. Came here for a Yelp event and ended up loving all three drinks! I got the crystal drink and two fruit teas (mango and passionfruit). Flavors were fresh and you can taste all the notes in the drinks. The owners are so sweet and the atmosphere is beautiful, bright and fun. Service is great, there's self service kiosks but staff is more than willing to help and answer any questions! read more

Ordering was very convenient with their touch screens up front. Our crème brûlée drinks were delicious and perfectly sweetened with 50% sugar. We even saw them torch the top of our drinks! The egg waffles were so yummy and presented adorably in a little certain. I do wish they had more seating but they had cute claw machines we could play with while we waited for our order. The best boba we've found in the area. They use real fruit, it's never overly sweet, and they have flavors you won't find anywhere else. You can tell that it's high quality and it's always made fresh (as are the adorable and delicious little egg waffles). The vibe in the store is adorable and upbeat, which we love. The staff is always kind and warm, not to mention super speedy with the service. Like I said, best boba in the area. Definitely give it a try if you haven't already. First time trying , had to see what the hype was all about, a lot different from the other Tea/Boba places. I have ordered Mango Slush with Yogurt popping boba and ordered my wife Taro w/ 100% sugar plus Taro Jiao, over all selections were flavorful. Would come back again to try different tea that I would enjoy. Overall great environment and cleanliness is on point. read more

In the mood for a sweet treat, this little place has so many variations of tea, Boba, fruit drinks. The person in front of us took their time making a choice and the server made it so easy to pick a couple of drink flavors, adjust level of sugar and add Boba. Ordered an oreo milk tea, a blue whale drink and a brown sugar milk tea. Even at 70% sugar. The cookies and cream drink was super creamy, I thought my son was drinking a milkshake. The blue drink was a light, refreshing gelatin / coconut milk thirstquencher. The brown sugar Boba with 50% sugar was just the right amount of sweetness. Another plus was the cute decor. read more

Loved their milk tea! The only downside was the regular size already seemed a little small and it was filled with probably 90% ice so I recommend getting less ice. Service was nice and quick! read more
