Visited The Ocean Grill & Seafood on a Thursday evening after seeing so much hype on social media. The service was solid, and the staff kept everything running pretty smoothly the whole night. They've got both booths and regular tables, which is nice depending on what kind of seating you like. Nothing fancy about the ambiance a typical buffet restaurant decor. The cold seafood section looked really full and well stocked, even though I didn't personally try any of it. I ended up getting a hibachi plate with noodles, shrimp, broccoli, mushrooms, and a mix of veggies. They actually had a pretty good selection for the hibachi grill, which I liked. As for the buffet overall, it honestly didn't quite live up to the social media hype for me. There were definitely tons of options and a lot of variety, but I'm more of a quality over quantity person. I also didn't try any of buffet items. Now my daughter had the complete opposite experience. She loved it! She was really into the sushi selection and tried several buffet items. She already said she'd definitely want to come back. A couple things to know before you go: they charge a surcharge if you pay with a card, and they also charge for food waste, so don't overload your plate as you may be charged for food waste. They had crab legs, shrimp, chicken, sushi, Mongolian bbq, rice, fruit, ice cream, and more. Some of the food looked like it had been sitting a bit. But the selection seemed nice. Normally I stick to the same foods to be safe, because I'm slightly picky. The rolls are the best thing there. They're so soft and buttery. The chicken wings were bland but still ok. They were battered and fried good. The coconut chicken was ok, but if you have texture issues it'll get the best of you. The Mongolian bbq was pretty good. They have thin slices of meat, veggies, eggs, and sauces. Then the gentleman cooks it on the grill in front of you. That dollar makes him holler honey boo boo, so make sure to tip him!! This is not a seafood buffet or grill. It is a Chinese buffet that happens to have some seafood. The building itself looks nice enough (it only opened 2 years ago ) but we did notice several booths were broken or breaking. The food was not good. The lettuce for salad was extremely wilted, the dressings warm and sour, most food cold or bland. There were half blue crabs that were so over cooked you couldn't get meat out and there were no claw crackers or mallets to be found. The shrimp was rubbery and way over cooked and some items so salty. We went on 8/14 at 6:30 pm so I would say a pretty prime time. I was expecting steamed crab legs, fresh or grilled fish and steamed and seasoned shrimp. None of those things were found and it is definitely priced that way at $27 per person. I went back in March or April of 2026 and the food was great. Last night I was really disappointed with almost everything. Nothing tasted fresh and some food tasted weird and I had to spit it out. I was not expecting them to have a wide variety of food options as they did. I chose a lot of protein, like 70% of my plate were meats. The buffets back home do not carry items like squid, ribs, mackerel, pig ears, pig feet, bao buns, crab legs, etc. I grabbed the mackerel and squid, lots of it. They were delicious but of course both needed some kinda sauce to dip it in. Then they have the standard items, like cheesy spinach, beef and broccoli, shrimp, regular and stuffed mushrooms, crab rangoon, etc. They do have a raw bar as well but I was a bit weary of eating anything from it as I don't know how long any of it was sitting out over ice, and the items were pre-opened like the oysters. They had a dessert freezer that we could grab an ice cream bar or popsicle but we both passed after stuffing ourselves silly. All the staff in the restaurant were great. I didn't have high hopes after reading reviews on here and to my surprise some items weren't bad while others were terrible. I didn't eat any of the seafood or sushi except for fried shrimp. Family's favorite items were string beans, chicken teriyaki, crab Rangoon, ribs, French fries, chicken and broccoli. Husband said the sushi was not good and can be passed on. I had the hibachi (picked out broccoli, beef, noodles, onions, zucchini and mushrooms) and added garlic flavor and an egg. The garlic flavor was barely there and the plate of hibachi looked so sad. The egg was looked like someone ate it and spat it back out onto my plate. The yolk and egg white were not scrambled together. I forgot to take a picture. Soft drinks were extra but free refills. Ocean Grill is the areas newest buffet spot and it does NOT disappoint! I've been here about 4 times now since it's been open and it's pretty good! First off, you have to remember that this a standard Buffett and not like ones in Vegas or something so don't expect lamb chops or bone marrow haha. But!! It's still a very solid option in my opinion. The space is fairly large with ample seating for large and small parties alike. The restaurant is bright and pretty open so you don't feel cramped either. Their food selection is the best in the area and some of their offerings I've had include but is not limited to: stir fry lobster, steamed crab legs, stone like crabs, seafood boils, galbi, dragon fruit, etc to name a few of their more premium options on the weekends. They also have plenty of other foods like pizza, traditional Chinese food items, American food, and Chinese American foods too. Don't forget their included hibachi as well! Service is quick and friendly and food seems to be replenished quick as well. It's $25 PP for adults on weekends for dinner which seems like a great deal to me. Ocean Grill & Seafood Buffet is located in the Holland Windsor Shopping Center on Holland Rd. It is pretty close to the Kroger Marketplace. There are several shops around the place, so parking can be limited at times if you need to try and park close to the business. My most recent visit here was on December 25, 2024. The most recent visit here was my third overall visit. I came in the first time during the lunch hours. It's at a lower cost, but not as many options, but that made sense given the cost. There was still plenty of items to choose from. The other two visits, including the most recent one, was during the dinner time or holiday special. The cost does vary based on the time of day and the day of the week you come in. There is a 10% discount for seniors. Cash is king here. If you pay with a credit or debit card, an additional 3% merchant fee is added. The place is very open inside. There are several areas for seating. Take out is also an option if you are so inclined to go that route. You can see the buffet area as you come in. If you drink sodas, I believe they have Pepsi products. I just stick with water with lemon. Once greeted by the server, you can head up to the buffet to start. If you happen to be coming in with someone who is not doing the buffet, make sure to let the server know up front. Plates, utensils, and hand sanitizer are available at the buffet. You will use a new plate for each visit. There is an area for desserts, salads, and fruits in general at the first serving area. The other two serving areas feature the hot food items, which can vary based on an individual visit. In general, you can find an array of seafood items from fish, shrimp, crab, and more. There are some traditional Chinese foods too, such as Salt and Pepper Shrimp, General Tso Chicken, and more. There is another hot serving area next to the area where the sushi is. That has things like ribs, grilled salmon, and other things of that sort. Finally, they have a hibachi grill. You can choose what foods and sauces you want to have in it, and then it will be cooked for you there as you watch. They were very good about keeping the food areas stocked. The servers I have had on the visits have been good about collecting old plates at the table. The food was really good on each of the visits. I may not make it in too often after the holidays since many of the foods are so good that they spike my blood sugar. For those that don't know, I have been in type 2 diabetic remission for over 18 months as of the time this review was written. Overall, I have had great experiences here with the food and service. There is so much to choose from, so be sure to come hungry. There really is something for everyone. Somehow a new buffet place opened in CoVa, but it came at the expense of losing another buffet place. Ocean Grill & Seafood Buffet is up and running, replacing the old Buffet City off of Holland Rd. I personally have never eaten at Buffet City, but an uncle loved their calamari. Just a couple of years ago, after a fancy Christmas lunch at Orion's Roof, I drove that uncle to Buffet City so he could pick up some of Buffet City's calamari. I knew he must really dig their calamari, because there's no way I'd drive out from Norfolk to that part of Virginia Beach just for calamari, haha. To each his own, and I'm always amenable to make friends and family happy. Fast forward to present day - Ocean Grill stands in its place. I was on PTO (12/6/24) and decided to check them out. Ocean Grill went through a complete overhaul - plenty of lighting, plenty of seating, and quite the selection of food. They look much like Yukai near Hilltop (I've been told that Yukai and Ocean Grill share the same ownership), just newer and cleaner (albeit a little smaller). Ocean Grill offers typical cooked foods you'd expect at a Chinese buffet, sushi, and a hibachi station, which I took advantage of during my second visit. The optics are excellent - any dining establishment that looks clean and appealing will have a much better chance of getting my dollar. And because their price points are low ($13.99 for lunch; $19.99 for weekday dinner), I would recommend them to hungry friends who don't feel like splurging. The wait staff, based on my two visits, is friendly. They are polite and move with a sense of urgency. I had zero issues with drink refills, while empty plates were removed by the time I returned with another full plate of food. This enhanced both of my visits and only stretches my dollar. The second time I dined here (12/20/24) was with mom. We couldn't decide on dinner, so my mom agreed to try them out. Mom isn't big on buffets, but she doesn't mind giving any business a try. From her perspective, she wasn't all that impressed with the food quality (a lot of the items she tried were overcooked), but she was happy with the service and the establishment's overall cleanliness. For me, I know what to expect with local buffets - it almost always is about quantity over quality. Ocean Grill, early on, has focused on quality (that brings customers in, of course), but in the end a buffet is a buffet. I like them, but I simply don't have the appetite for buffets. As this location is on the other side of the water and I am in Newport News, it's worth the visit if I'm in the area. The cost was very reasonable especially for children. I've only visited on weekends, and the variety is always impressive- everything from snow crab legs and steamed fish to build-your-own hibachi bowls and a wide range of meats. My kids love the fruit selection, especially since they include unique options like dragon fruit. I decided to check out the new Ocean Grill Buffet in Virginia Beach since I heard it was Yukai's second location. Yukai has always been known for its consistency and wide selection, so I came in with similar expectations for Ocean Grill. I visited during lunch hours, and the meal was very affordable, especially with the military discount. However, if you're coming close to the dinner transition, be aware that they'll charge you the dinner price if you stay past the lunch period, which I saw turn a few people away. The buffet is huge, and the seating area is also really spacious, which was a nice surprise. They have a wide selection of items, many of which you wouldn't usually find at a typical buffet. That being said, some items missed the mark. The soups, while a nice touch, weren't very good. The grilled meats looked like they'd been sitting out too long--they were dry and overly salty. A lot of items were also really greasy and sitting in a layer of oil. The sushi section was another disappointment. Compared to Yukai, it didn't hold up. There were flies around the sushi, and the rice was strangely starchy with an off taste. If you're coming for sushi, I'd recommend sticking to Yukai. Overall, nothing at Ocean Grill stood out in terms of quality. They definitely offer quantity, but it feels like they sacrificed quality to do so. I don't think I'll be coming back, and for a seafood buffet, I'll stick to Yukai instead. read more

I was hoping for great things from this buffet but it was only okay. The service was pretty good. We were seated promptly. The atmosphere is very bright and frenetic. No dim lights and relaxation for dinner at this place. There was a HUGE variety of things you could put in your hot pot but i think many items like the chicken feet and tripe are only appreciated by a select few. Oh and the hot pot seasoning add-ins are allong the far back wall. The hot pots that are prepared tableside are very bland. No salt for sure. There were crab legs available but as other reviews say, they go quickly. And im not sure why it is so difficult to get crab crackers. I thought they might be available near the crab legs but i couldnt see them there. The host was nearby so I asked him. He said they are available from our server. I didn't see our server so I asked a different server and he said i had to ask *our* server. Sigh. The sushi rolls I tried were good. Some of the dishes on the buffet were very good. I really enjoyed whatever they had filling the small scallop shells. (Whatever filled the crab shells was not good.) The chilled shrimp on the salad bar and the stuffed mushrooms had virtually no taste. I'm not sure how you remove the taste of shrimp from actual shrimp but they found a way. The cut fresh pineapple and the jello was delicious! We will not be back. Crazy Buffet is a better option IMO. read more

The quality of the food has changed since the last time I came here. The food was not hot and a lot of stuff was not on the buffet. The service was great and but the hibachi is literally the only thing saving this place. read more

Great food and variety of items. Waiters are attentive. Don't have to wait to be seated long. Very busy on weekends though. One of the best buffets I have eaten at in years. I do recommend! read more

The food was great especially for an all you can eat buffet. The hibachi area makes it even better. I was too full to try it but all of the other customers said only praises about it. The waitress was very kind and was always checking in on us making sure we were satisfied with our experience. It was relatively cheap as well being $14 lunch price. I also liked the theme they went with and how the decor matched. To top off everything they had a whole rice cooker out which is so much better than dumping the rice into another bin. That is worthy of bringing any rating up an additional star. Thus I will give this place 5 stars. read more
